The year only matters as far as knowing; this is where all the different metal tangents came from. Even punk came from Funk and metal combination. If you made planet Sabbath collide with planet Rush ; You would get most Hard rock and Metal. Just as there is No Sabbath without fusing Blues, Hendrix, Soul etc. IS there a reason no one does HENDRIX reactions?
Other highlights from the Sabbath Bloody Sabbath album are Sabbra Cadabra and Spiral Architect. And you've probably gotten this one a hundred times, but check out Symptom of the Universe from the Sabotage album. That whole album is a favorite of many die hard Sabbath fans like me and is probably their most creative and certainly weirdest effort. Keep enjoying your journey and be well

YES! YES! YES! This song changed my idea of what music was and could be. I was eleven. That heavy drop and the riff that follows gives me chills to this day, even though I'm almost 52. For folks in my generation it is pretty easy to see how we fell in love with the grunge era stuff as we came of age. Sabbath was founded in Birmingham, England--a tough steel manufacturing city, the kind of place where you ended up either working in a factory or joining a gang, as guitarist Tony Iommi once put it. They were at the forefront of a new type of music that was initially described as "Downer Rock" and "Atomic Blues", and ultimately as "Heavy Metal". Polo, your contemplative reaction was great as usual, brother. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

The super crazy impressive part of Black Sabbath is that they were playing heavy shit like this back in the late 60's into the 70's. Just so far ahead of it's time that it created an entire genre of music that STILL sounds fresh and relevant to this day. Incredible!

I think the production and guitar tones on this album are a big drop off from Vol. 4. The songwriting is incredible still but I prefer the heavy, raw feel of Vol. 4 and Master of Reality. I think those are just cooler.
I first heard Black Sabbath in 1981 as a 7 year old. It scared the crap out of me. But I loved it. I bought a tape from a turnstile at a bait shop instead of buying a lure with $5 my mom gave me. A couple of important things to know are that the music is by the creative genius who invented metal, lead guitarist Tony Iommi (eye-OWE-me), and the lyrics are by the great bass player, Geezer Butler. Polo, there a couple of reaction sites I will watch, and you are 1 of them. The reasons are because you don't act foolish, your honest, and a genuine lover of music. You actually like music that is not your favorite Genre. That I appreciate a lot. Your the type of guy who won't just say things to impress viewers? In other words you will love one Sabbath song, and then if another song you don't like, you'll mention you don't like that song as much as another. That tells me your really listening to the song. Instead of just saying you love it all to please the viewers? Don't change, your a geniune guy!!!!
I think that what appeals to most of us is that this was really the band that started that driving, soul dredging sound and style. These guys are from the same place as The Beatles and they were even MORE blue collar and harder. Plus, a lot of people dismiss Ozzy as a sort of novelty voice, but his singing is really beautiful in between.

But I can't stop listening to "children of.the grave" its outstanding for the time and holds up now
Heaviest lil riff of all time.
Into the Void is probably my #1 favorite Sabbath song.
Makes sense you like Sabbath Polo. (And you'll only like them more the more you listen) They're progressive metal/hard rock. You can draw a straight line from Zeppelin and Sabbath straight to Tool and I love it
Hands down one of Sabbaths best albums!!
That song is emotional. I still have to concentrate to not cry when I sing to it.
Month this came out, Nov '73, the #1 songs were Photograph by Ringo Starr, and Heartbeat, It's A Lovebeat by the DiFranco Family. It was like finding a steak under your salad.
Sabbath-Megalomania absolutely 🔥pre thrash, Thrash!
I bet this will bump in the 4 runner!🔊🤘🏼😎
oz has parkinsons now, which really sux,and moved back from las angeles to birmingham, england, but u are never gonna know when oz does something nuts till it hits tv lol
They have some iconic opening riffs in several songs.
A National Acrobat on this album is one of my favorite Sabbath tracks - very deep musically and lyrically
Another one of the bands I grabbed on to when I was 10 years old. My aunt really gave me some early knowledge. I'm 60 now and a life long fan.😎
Polo. Please check out a song called, "Warning", from 1970, if you get a chance... probably their greatest achievement.
You have reached the beginning of “metal” music. Excellent choice.
I've been a black Sabbath fan for over 40 yrs now!
