  • I am doing a full review of a carburetor rebuild kit off the internet. This kit has floats, main jets, pilot jets, air cut valves, Needle jets, jet needles, float valves and seats, O-rings and a few springs.
    We will go through the parts and see what will actually work and which parts are completely wrong.
    This video is my educated opinion and your results may vary. I have worked on Honda Goldwings for more than twenty years and have learned a thing or three along the way.

    First... you are completely correct about the poor quality in the 'aftermarket' kits. I've been there.... done that.... also! Plus it's a big plus to find someone on the internet that knows the difference between a 'needle jet' and a 'jet needle' ! You obviously have turned a wrench and are knowledgeable about a service manual nomenclature!
    Thumbs up!

    The Honda gold wing is actually the best motorcycle that was manufactured in the history of motorcycle manufacturing. You won't find a better bike period, I actually had argued with an idiot that said Harleys are better, I told him the Harleys are great boat anchors.

    I went through this mess back in the mid-1990's with a '78 GL 1000, except I had to order all the kits and such from Honda for an obscene amount of money.😝 Unfortunately, the stock Keihin carbs had too much internal scale and crud to ever make them usable, and I went through them probably 3 or 4 times before I gave up and welded up my own manifold to accept a brand new Weber 32/36 DGEV progressive 2 bbl. with automatic choke. Best thing that ever happened to this bike, and after a bit of jetting work, it got right around 45 mpg. and idled perfectly! Not quite as much top end power as the 4 individual carbs, but perfect for 99.9% of the riding I'd ever be doing. The Weber and materials for the manifold cost probably 1/3 of the carb kits, and is easy to service, and maintained perfect tuning after the initial jetting work!😄

      @danw1955, my head was spinning as Raymore removed and sort the unbelievable number of carb parts. Honda know for it's engineering and service ability of their early bikes, one would think they just simplify the intake system. Something along the lines that you did. It makes far better sense.

    excellent video. there are countless people on the web yammering about cheap aftermarket kits, but this video shows exactly what IS bad about them. good job.

      You are right. The huge problem is the fact that the parts do not even fit let alone work right. Thanks for watching.

      @@mitchellcox5461 Randakk's kit is expensive, but, it will last as well. Many of the cheapo ones do not last past 1 season of riding and you are back to rebuild it again. Such has been my experience's.

    I remember doing the carbs on my '83 GL1100 .. The kit to do the entire job cost me about $350.. I got it from Randakk. I'm not sure if it was worth the money, but Randakk put together a complete and accurate carb kit ..

    • @RaymoreRepair
      @RaymoreRepair  Рік тому

      Well, complete and accurate this kit is not. I used some of the pieces but not very many. There are some quality kits out there but you get what you pay for. Thank you for watching.

    Great content Bro, i've been looking for such content on old bikes and since i landed on the series , i definitely downloaded all of them😊 i've been working on a 1997 yamaha 250cc scooter and the content is much educative coz the workings are the same, sad thing with the old model bikes is rare or too expensive spare parts but they are reliable. Am enjoying👍👍

I have the old carb assembly but what should i look for to ensure itll run once i get the original back on? Any help would be appreciated ive been wanting one of these forever and i want to rebuild it pristine

      Replace most all rubber components. I usually use the jetting that was in the carbs since it seems to work better than the jets from most aftermarket kits. Thank you for watching.

      Could you really mean the K&N carb kit? For the most part I've found their parts to be much closer to Honda than the cheap Chinese crap.... hey.. that's a good shortcut for describing parts that don't fit... CCC parts.... Cheap Chinese Crap!
