No surprise about the smoke. A friend bought an old Packard v8 that had been pickled (filled to top with oil) for 20-30 years. He drained it,put new oil in, cleaned carb, and started it. Smoked like a freight train until the excess oil drained down and burnt off. Great way to preserve an old engine though!
Laughing out loud. I’m always working in the garage and the smoke and noise always gets my neighbour’s to stop by. Great video and I think tomorrow will be a good day to tackle my GL 1100 carbs. Godspeed!
I got a GL1100 as well and one time I had smoke billowing out like that, I thought the engine had gone on it. I went for a ride and clouds of smoke billowed out of each pipe, but it cleared up and never happened again.
So I have an 82 gl1000, carbs have been rebuilt by Randaks carb tech, bike runs great, pretty much everything has been replaced, doesn't smoke, but....God the exhaust has a strong exhaust smell, not rich or gas smell, just a strong exhaust smell. Gas is fresh 91 non ethanol, any ideas? Or do these bikes just have a strong exhaust smell, ty in advance
Hi. When you cleaned your carbs did you use any other method besides carb cleaner. No ultrasonic cleaner or other forms? I wanna rebuild mine but don’t have access to only carb cleaner. Thx in advance.
Hi. I only used carb cleaner and I think you can use brake cleaner or mass air flow sensor cleaner. I didn’t have access to the ultrasonic cleaner. I finally after hours of working on it I took it to a local shop. I have a second motorcycle I’m fixing up. My triumph I used all oem parts I ordered from euro cycle in Vegas and Triumph Detroit. Hope this gives you a direction to go.
I have taken parts to our local small engine guy (chainsaw repair) and they will often clean parts for you with their ultrasonic unit. Just a thought. I tend to just let them soak in cleaner for a few days.
I just used a generic kit that had gaskets only and cleaned all the other parts. You can't go wrong with the Honda kits. Other parts I would guess the O-rings between the intake runners and the head. Thank you for watching.

That it is. Thank you for watching.
Dear Sir, I live in Australia and I really enjoyed you video, in particular the carburettor rebuild, so many parts!
Thank you. I like watching Cutting Edge Engineering from your land too.
I’m impressed. That’s not job I would tackle as I’d never get it all back together again. My deepest respect to anyone who can.
Thank you for watching.

Perfect job vary good video
Thank you for watching.

Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for watching.
Sir, your videos are top shelf. I have a Gl1000 that is running well but watching your videos is an inspiration. Thank you. Yes I subscribed lol.
Great to hear! Thank you for watching.
Will you be putting out a video on carb synchronization in the bike as well as adjusting the mixture screws?
My son has the same bike he is getting running. Wheen it is to that point I will probably video it. Thank you for watching.
that is a glorious amount of smoke
Yes, probably the most I have had out of an old wing. Should have expected it considering how overfull the oil was. Thank you for watching.

Any idea what it was?
Any chance you can put your videos in individual playlists, I'm having real difficulty watching this Goldwing restoration? Thank you.
I'll see to that. Thank you for watching. Thank you for watching.

The exhaust will have more smell than newer bikes just due to the exhaust does not heat up as much as newer bikes. Thank you for watching.
Um open the door dude. Holy hell...more work to do yet.
That is good advice and I should have done it a lot sooner that's for sure. Thank you for watching.
Nice job! So would you recommend the kit or not really
Just know their are a lot of parts in the kit you will not use and will need to be sourced from another kit. I do not recommend this kit.
Hi. When you cleaned your carbs did you use any other method besides carb cleaner. No ultrasonic cleaner or other forms? I wanna rebuild mine but don’t have access to only carb cleaner. Thx in advance.
I have a cheap ultrasonic cleaner form Ebay. This can be done with just carb cleaner but it takes much longer. Thanks for watching.

Spay carb clean is fine as long as you realize spray it in somewhere and it must come out somewhere else.
I'm struggling to get the plenum chamber seals for my bike.
Where can I get them from?
Thanks 👍
I found a set on Ebay a few weeks ago.
Fit for GL1100 Carb Carburetor Air Chamber Plenum Seal for 16075-463-004 USA
Use this terminology in the search on ebay
Great Video, Which carb kit do you recommend. Any other kits needed for other fuel parts?
I just used a generic kit that had gaskets only and cleaned all the other parts. You can't go wrong with the Honda kits. Other parts I would guess the O-rings between the intake runners and the head. Thank you for watching.
Have you thought about going and doing a single carb conversion
Yes I did. Thanks for watching.
I Need Some Help with the First Half of This Project ! Is There a Video that I have Not Found Yet ?
Yes there is. Just go to my channel's home page. Thank you for watching.
I gotta comment on your lots of smoke, did you not expect any smoke after you loaded the carburetors full of wd40. Although good video.
I think the exhaust had been loaded up from setting overfilled with oil. But I do like to use the WD40 when working on carbs.
Where did you buy the rebuild kit?
I got them from Donnell's Motorcycles in Independence MO. They were the All Balls brand I think. Thank you for watching.
Don't do that. Ride it
Thanks for watching.
