Using an 'AH' vowel sound opens the throat and also perhaps the mouth cavity - giving better resonance. When playing for performance, concentration should be on producing the desired sound. When 'learning how to play' it is necessary to develop the habit / reflex to DO the physical things that result in good playing.

Very interesting, I studied with John Harbaugh and he always told us to think of the sounds as if it was a couple of feet in front of us or even going through the wall into the next room. I don't think he ever told anyone about putting in on the bridge of your nose that I'm aware of, but different concepts for different folks at different times in their journey. loving your videos too, It feels like I'm back taking lessons!

Hey there! That's so cool you studied with John Harbaugh. Robert Baca, Charlie Davis, and Mr. Adam all told me the same thing as John Harbaugh told you. BUT, Mr. Adam and Bob Baca made it clear that you can hear the overtones in the sound AND maintain them on the bridge of your nose; when I do that, my endurance and ability feels like the trumpet really is an extension of my thoughts. Check out that GREASE! recording I did at shows.jeremymilos.com It really felt easy to play that way - it did require effort (not effortless), but I looked forward to the most difficult passages in that show, day after day :)

Great job buddy. It’s an interesting game isn’t it. Projection and sound plus lots of practice 🎺

Thanks! I’m toying with going for a smoother Wynton standard time smooth sound and a forward, projection out at the back of the room sound!
Two different concepts but love them both

@@jambajoby32 that’s great! And thanks for inspiring my next video which comes out at 4PM. I try demonstrating a darker and softer side, while using the same concept. The iPhone mic is very limited, but I think the idea comes across ok.
