Glad you became a big swimbait fisherman. Not many youtubers are big swimbait guys. You actually go into depth and explain to us so that we can learn. Thanks for that! Continue to do what you do!
THANK YOU WESTIN! I really needed this video because my lake has so many medium-sized fish (2-8) pounders. I never threw any big swimbaits because i knew that they were too big for them, but apparently not. Awesome video
You would be surprised how large of a bait that a bass can eat,, a 17in bass roughly 3lbs can easily eat a 10in fish without a problem ,, and if you have 2-8lber in your local lake , what do you think those 5+lbers are eating ! larger fish especially in the fall/winter ,
@@ripperrodfishing7419 not a problem man don’t be intimidated by the big baits , bass are curious and they only way that they can figure out what something is by putting it in their mouth they don’t have hands to examine it ,, and they get a little over zealous at times at try to eat/kill things that are too big for them I’ve caught tons of 1-2lbers on a10in deps 250 glide bait as well as many 5-6lbers as well so the big bites will come eventually,,
Ngl the end screen is REALLY FIRE! I can ALWAYS count on a banger from you, Westin! You are an awesome influence to me, as a fellow youtube fishing content creator! Thanks for all you do and keep on posting! Stay REEL and keep on REELING!
It’s all about proper gear and technique! I throw everything from 3oz-6oz+ on an 8’6” irod extra heavy mag, an Okuma Citrix 364, spooled with 20lb Izorline xxx copolymer! Great set up for less than $400!
Great video... cause you and Ryan both no i got the same set up like u... a couple weeks ago.... And yea i gotta go more in the evening or early morning and start just trow the big swim bait more.....Thanks again brother.... Inspired me alot
Great video, thanks for the tips... one thing though, i used the link in the description to check out a rod you recommend and it took me to spinning rod.
Hey Westin love your videos but I have a technical question for you. What laptop specs would you recommend not Apple. I'm using Adobe premier for my videos but my laptop is running it at a snails pace and I can't even get my first video posted. You are the only fishing youtuber who pays enough attention to their comments to answer lol.
Yoooooooo......... This video dropped at the perfect time. I'm fishing for bass on a boat in two weeks. My plan was to use big swimbaits even though I havent caught a bass on one yet.
Yo! BIG W. SMITH! You my guy are sooo thorough. Thanks for the game, I'll be using the affiliate links to make my purchases. I'm locked in on your channel...💪🏾✌🏾
Wow! Awesome tips! I’ve only ever used YUM Impulse soft plastic on 3/O weighted hook! I SO want to try BIGGER in our secluded private pond here in central NC! (We welcome you to come)...Beautiful Pond you’re fishing! Beautiful catch out of it! BABAAM!! I appreciate your channel friend!
Always a great vid when Westin breaks out his “Professor” of fishing mode. I would add start out with cheaper swimbaits like the Mike Bucca Baby Bull Shad for hard baits and Strike King Rage Swimmers for soft baits. If you lose them while building confidence it won’t hurt so much.
Thank you for this video🤙 not a lot of videos on here that really explain it you did awesome, I’ve started to get some followers and I’ve caught a couple so far. Tough to find the biggins in NH
A technique I need to get into. I’m saving up for a Kistler 7’10” XXH because and that will throw anything from 2-10 ounces! What’s your opinion on the 8” Huddleston? I know Matt from tactical bassin swears by it and caught his pb of a 17-pounder on it!
I bought one of the slow sink models and it ended up being a floater which I hear is fairly common. Never sent it in for the exchange and haven’t thrown it since taking it out the first time
@@WestinSmith sometimes I like to fish the Huds especially the 68 special weedless one a little bit untraditional,, I fish them like a Spinnerbait or a swim jig , in and around cover and over lay downs,, sometimes reeling it in just subsurface or ripping it through the grass and letting it fall,, or even just a slow steady retrieve ,,
Great video man just got a 2.5 pounder the other day on a 6 inch bull gill and definitely boosted up my confidence. I was gona tell you to check out dobyns fury swimbait rods. They’re great for the price and there’s 2 models
Curado 300’s are really nice I like the Tranx 200 too but the Tranx 300 and Curado 300 is just the way to go for big swimbaits and Curado 300 is only $199
Westin. Got a question. How do you know where you can and cannot kayak in McKinney, TX. Can't find ANY info. Looking at the soil conservation reservoirs. There are a bunch. Thinking about buying a kayak, but not if I can't use it around here. Any info would help.
Also night time urban spots best time to catch the pig in your local waters as all the bass come out from cover and chase bait up shallow cant ever beat a big rat like a spro bbz rat 50 ..
@@marcmcmahon5551 most my reels and especially that ratio are 100 to 150 size so not big but will hold some good 20lb line and maybe 90 to 100 yards??? Depending on line and diameter. My heavy setup though is a 8.0:1 ratio maybe I can slow roll it lol most my bigger swimbaits I've gotten are multi jointed. And I have a couple soft style bigger paddle tale type. And of course a bigger glide bait or two. Most I have I can throw on a mh with my 7 1:1 amd medium to slow roll seems to work with those. I'm new to bigger swimbaits and actually faster reels lol I've always used a 6.4:1 for just about everything except super light fishing and that's a spinning combo.
Great info westin, i got the molix for ten buks at mtb cause they made numerous mistakes on a few of my orders, i dont buy from them unless its something specific but this winter im saving up to buy all my swimbaits and gear i need to throw them. That curado k is great but can u tell me where can i get that same rod for 45 buks?

The 8in Hud is a good bait ,, it fishes best when fished painfully slow,

What gear ratio reel do you generally us???? Curious as my new jig setup has a 8.0;1 ratio reel to pull them up out of heavy cover quicker
Most people do a 6.4:1 with bigger reels but I like a 7.4:1 cause I can slow that down but I need the speed on multi joint baits
