      It's a dumb fish, no different than a carp, a catfish, or any other fish. The fact that many love fishing for them doesn't change this. It's good to remember that the number one game fish in the entire world is the carp.

    You guys are absolutely hands-down the most informative bass fishermen I have ever came across in this business and sport. I have fished tournaments for over 20 years now and I cannot remember the last time somebody actually said something that was worth knowing that wasn't a fish story. I found your channel about a month ago and I have taken away from it more knowledge about swim baits in that time span then I have in three years of going over them in magazines and TV shows. It's definitely true that time on the water is the way to get some of the best knowledge but this is definitely the closest to that without ever holding a fishing rod. My hat is off to you guys. 👍

    Ive watched this vid a number of times. It’s videos like this that set you guys apart from the crowd. I’m no pro, nor do I even consider myself a good angler, but most of the information out there is redundant and geared towards novice anglers. It’s underground/self taught information like this that I’m starved for. Thanks

    Matt, watched your video, saw you clipped your wire at the end. If you make a small bend then role/rotate the wire like a little crank when the wire breaks it doesn't leave a sharp edge and has nothing to hang up on. I enjoy all your tips, figure I can give everyone in the tactical bassin family one as well.

    Great video. Somthing I found years and years ago as well. No headaches with swaging tools and failed crimps. No issues with distances when tying kevlar or spectra.
    Single strand all the way. SO simple and strong....But don't use nippers to cut the wire. Rock it back and forth so that way it breaks flush. No need to risk cutting yourself on the edge.

    Damn! Perfect timing for me as I will be rigging plastics for my Fall Muskie trip. While I have to troll Canadian Shield Lakes when the temps drop below 32 degrees (rod tip and guides freeze up), I prefer to cast and jig big plastic/rubber baits. I would lose Huddlestons on the rocky Shield bottom but pumped to try 10.5” Shad Teez Swimbait that look to mimic the Ciscos as they school up for the spawn.
    You two guys make the best, most informative videos with details in the description. Love it! Thank you once again.

    Hey there! I have been seeing you guys for a while but have only just recently gotten into your videos. (My mistake!!!)
    Thank you guys for your dedication and awesome knowledge that you pass down to all of us. You guys are a huge inspiration for me and a lot of us, I'm sure!
    I have recently purchased my first swimbait reel, rod and of course the baits themselves. I want to say that I'm not sure if I would have ever made the leap if it weren't for your videos! I am an east coast guy, (Washington DC area), and anything bigger than a keitech was insane to me before trying my first big daddy swimbait.
    Anyways, haven't caught any monsters yet but will be sure to check in when I do. Please keep up the hard work with the videos! I'm just starting out a channel myself and appreciate all the time that goes into what you guys do! I look forward to seeing and learning more from you guys and maybe, if the gods allow, an east coast vs. west coast showdown one day!
    Take care and best of luck in 2017!

    Thanks again for clearing up a question I had and I'm going to try a stinger rigged on top just to experience it, Oh I also use Hudds right out of the package and love 'em just the way they come packaged... tight lines....

      I've noticed in videos with Paul Bailey, though, that the Huddleston jig hook tends to make big holes in the lips of largemouths. I'm guessing this is due to the weight of the Hudd during the head shakes. Paul Bailey still lands the fish, of course, but I'm surprised more fish don't get lost. I guess this speaks to your point about controlling the fish without letting up, so the hook is actually hooking/pulling meat instead of rattling around the penetration hole when it could get thrown.

    Night fishing is so much more successful with a trailer hook (on top of course). I dont like bottom hooks on rigs for big fish. But that stinger makes the hookup ratio almost 100% for me if they get at least a half bite on the bait. Great video's keep it coming. And Thanks

    LOL about the ghetto haywire twist! As a saltwater fisherman, I've always wondered why, why, why did the bass guys I take out in the salt for the first time were always freaking out about fish running hard against the drag and had their drags locked down.

  • @ILGNR2
    @ILGNR2 8 років тому

    Awesome video Matt! Two questions. 1. You talk about grinding the fish in, is your drag locked down? 2. What do you do with a hudd that has been sitting away with the tail bent and it's not exactly straight anymore? Do you put it in boiling water for a few seconds for it to straighten out? Much appreciated.

    • @tacticalbassin
      @tacticalbassin  8 років тому +1

      Thanks for asking! 1) Absolutely, lock it down. 2) Boiling can help straighten them but for the most part I just fish them, they've got to be pretty kinked for it to even matter.

    I lost my first swimbait bass night fishing a 68 special, I am not sure whether it was my fault or if I'm not using a rod with enough backbone. I use a Okuma Guide Select Swimbait Stick, the first couple sections of the rod tip are a little flimsier but im not sure about the back bone. It is bigger around than an extra heavy flipping stick so I'm trying to blame it on myself Haha. But I was horsing it in across the top of the water and i got it to the bank, turned my light on and i think i let the fish turn its head.

    great video. i was wondering if you could help me out on the weedless 68 hudds. when to use them...can you add a stinger on top with the hook hidden? im a northeastern angler so its super grassy and weedy out here... which brings me to my next question. do huddlestons snag up alot with just the top jig hook? cause id rather not throw a weedless if i dont have to. thanks guys.

      Go with the regular hook. The line itself acts as a weedguard and its about the same as the weedless.

    Awesome video Matt! This video is pure UA-cam Gold! If you ever had a bad or damaged jig hook on a hudd, have you ever cut it off and attached the single wire to the line tie? Or is that asking for trouble? Also, one last question. Have you fished the 10" hudd much or had any luck on it yet?

    • @tacticalbassin
      @tacticalbassin  8 років тому

      Yes, the only time I do any sort of top treble rig on a hudd is after a ruin a jig hook. Clip it off and wire off the old line tie. I've got the 10's but haven't had a lot of opportunity to throw them. They'll absolutely work though.

    Amazing video Matt - I really love the content you and Tim out out.
    I fish in Maryland where the fish don't grow nearly as big as they do in CA. Recently I have been fishing the Jerry Rago inline swimbait with the treble on the bottom (Same setup Byron Velvick won with at Clear Lake). I haven't had any issues hooking fish in the gill rakers yet, and the fish's health is always a top priority of mine. Is it just a matter of time before I kill a fish with this bait, or is this somehow different than the belly trebles you mentioned in your video.
    Thanks so much Matt! Keep up the great work!

    • @tacticalbassin
      @tacticalbassin  8 років тому +1

      In my opinion, its a matter of time. I'm glad to hear you haven't had any issues as of yet!

      Thanks Matt/Tim. I hold your opinion in high regard, you guys know way more than me. Looks like those line thru's are going to stay in the basement and I'll be using only baits with top hooks moving forward.

    Cool video Matt, I fish mine straight out of the package also, with no problem...I was going back through some of your old videos on bed fishing, and got an idea from you. You said you trim the tentacles for short bites (which did help, thanks)...what do you think about fishing a tube like a neko rig with a 1/4 oz weight shoved inside and a treble hook shoved inside where they come out just below the tentacles? Just thinking it might help with the little nipping bites...thanks again!

    • @tacticalbassin
      @tacticalbassin  8 років тому

      LOL when I was a kid we used to do that for big brown trout. We called em "whoop its" instead of gitzits. We'd take a 1/4 oz weight and crimp it onto a piece of welding wire. Bend the ends into eyelets and attach a treble that would be free swinging in the tentacles. Worked like a charm!

    great videos always :) im from san diego and I lost a teen fish last year :( i had bought a hudd 8in that was prerigged from the tackle shop with 7 strand and crimpped and it failed no need to bash any tackle shop. I just wanted to ask if you rig your rof 5 like this. i notice a lot of people down here using spro split snap. im not a fan of snaps but they are heavy duty made for saltwater/freshwater and I see a lot of people rigging them like that instead of crimping lately. The trout are just started to get stocked down here so its about that time ;) most anglers down here dont share much. i definitely appreciate all the info you guys share and want to say thank you and keep up the great work!

    • @tacticalbassin
      @tacticalbassin  8 років тому +1

      This is how we'd rig an ROF 5. Forget the snap... the only snap that won't fail at some point is the one that already did. LOL

      Its been a few years, I wouldn't worry too much about it. You can tell if they're soft by just barely torquing them with pliers.

    Say You hook up on a 8-15 plus on braid with mono lead do you still run the same lead ?or cut and tie new one or just retie to the bait .i always retie when I bring one in but iv never done braid to mono lead so I'm unsure about how long the braid to lead knot is good for .sorry for massive question awesome video

    Q. By adding the treble, does that and the wire compromise the swimming action at all?

    • @tacticalbassin

      If you ran one back on the tail itself it might but otherwise no, not at all.

    • @tacticalbassin

      Its the standard jig hook that comes stock on the ROF 12 and ROF 16, or as an option on the ROF 5.

    I have some questions about these swimbaits.
    Will these work in the midwest near st louis? Will small fish bite the huddlestons? And what is the best way to store huddlestons?

    • @tacticalbassin
      @tacticalbassin  8 років тому

      Absolutely they'll eat them! You're going to love it Jacob! We typically just store our huddlestons in deep plano boxes.
