I have a black tabby as well. She recently stopped drinking water on me and isn't urinating as much. I switched her to all wet food and I'm considering a fountain. Trying to avoid the vet if possible. Did your cat ever start using the fountain?

Tip: Use a bowl that's very wide! Cats don't like their super sensitive whiskers to be touched. The bowl used in this video is nowhere near wide enough.

The vet had to re-hydrate my cat twice in twelve months - and after the last session she still wasn't drinking any water. I never feed her dry food. I remedied the problem by feeding her cat soups and adding a little water to her meals. I can tell by the clumps in her litter tray that she is urinating normally now - and she has returned to her normal happy self after previously sleeping 24/7 for days on end.

@@carolinesmith9584 I don't need to make the soups - they are produced in sachets under the pet food brand name 'Sheba' and are available at most supermarkets and pet stores. There are other brands which produce small tins of cat food 'in broth'. I find it more beneficial to add a little water to each meal.

I wanna know why my cat likes to go absolutely crazy at random times, especially at night when its bed time, she'll get very energized and run all over the bed, up and down her cat tree through the halls, what makes a cat basically go crazy/lose their mond for a good min then relax like they didnt smoke crack just before
Mine does that sometimes too, but only if he hasn't gotten enuf exercise that same day. I make sure he gets plenty of run-around time before bedtime...works like a charm.

Your cat may be asleep during the day most of the time.Try giving her activities to be up during the day to change their body clock.
Cat's are generally nocturnal so they get more active at night. They like to hunt at night so that's just a house cats way of releasing that energy.

@@hailey8941 Finland has one of the best tap waters in the world. We have lots of ground water, which would be potable without any filtering, but to ensure absolute quality, we filter the water several times before it is coming to our taps. It's much better in quality than any bottled water sold, due to the bottled water staying in the bottle for some time and getting worse by the minute. And the only thing I'd use a filtered water pitcher is if I would take water directly from a lake or a pond... Near our cabin we get our water from a natural spring (which we do not filter, because it tastes great).
I think that tip was aimed at people that live with water sources that are treated with fluoride and contains heavy metals. I doubt a cat would dislike your water supply :)

Yesterday my cat collapse without warning, so I rush to vet and he say my cat(14 years old) is healthy, nothing wrong with organs, blood test came out great and his only problem was dehydratation and vet said "you know, he is geriatric and it same with elderly cat like with elderly human. Your cat don´t feel thirst"...he also said, that many bowls, fountain...etc won´t work without human help, so we must take our senior cat to water and if he refuse to drink, use syringe and help him that way

@@Lisa-cn2uu well i do what I could in 17.august it will be one year my cat passed away, after he had stroke I tried to do everything even he was blind and pay around 500 euros for treatment, but when he stopped moving and without medicament he would be in pain, I decided to let him go, I didn't want to be selfish and kept him here just because say goodbye was hard

I moved my cats water from the plastic double bowl into a stainless steel bowl,using filtered water and today was the first time I've seen her drink just water this year. Previously I've had to add a small amount of milk to her water to get her to drink as well as just feed her wet food.

We should never feed cats dry food that's what gives them kidney failure always wet foods and see that they drink make sure but there's no guarantee cat's kidneys are just not made to function well for some reason my cat was fine and all of a sudden she's got kidney failure please be careful try to get your cat to drink and eat wet food not dry I said my dry food and my veterinarian never suggested anything differently said she's fine in June Nagasaki was in kidney failure go figure what a veterinarian you always gave her her booster shots said she's fine never tested for anything and let this happen to her and then when it did always said was change your food I got rid of him too late get a good veterinarian a lot of good ones out there get a compassionate one please not one that's just looking for quick money my little girl didn't like him and there was a good reason I didn't like him either but I found out too late why didn't like him good luck with your cat Mrs Barbara Gray here on my deceased husband's phone

Like Mrs. John Gray here, I just lost a dear cat to kidney failure. She had eaten dry kibble her whole life with us; even prescribed by her veterinarian! Cats do NOT eat dry food in the wild. They get a lot of water from the flesh of their prey. They also drink from streams if they can. It’s possible to switch your cat’s diet very gradually to a wet food from a dry food! I’ve done it with our remaining cat in the last 3 weeks since Gracie died. 😭 🐈⬛

I know my fur baby is drinking enough water by the many pee balls in her litter pan, sometimes they are kinda huge. I use clumping litter obviously.
To Mary if your cat is going to the litter box a lot with large are small clumps see your veterinarian as soon as possible drinking a lot of water using the litter box a lot and that that is a sign it may have kidney failure my cat has kidney failure and I am losing her at this very moment don't wait that way you can have your cat as long as possible I had a veterinarian who didn't do anything just give her a , say she's fine and take the money get a good veterinarian to treat your cat if that's possible the very best of luck this is mrs. Good informative video. However acting on advice I had many years ago I always use a large ceramic dog bowl for my cats' water. They always seem to love it and therefore drink more. The depth also helps to keep the water a bit cooler in hot weather.

My cat had bladder problems when young. So I swapped to only wet food mashed up with plenty of water. Kept him well, although he never drinks any water. But now age 14y and having had a dental op, and the blazing heat, he is hardly eating, so not getting much fluid. And also has slight uti. Will def put bowls all round the flat for him. I have a fountain which his sister loves. Doh. I have also given him a bit of cat milk diluted with water, which he has drunk. Thanks for all the tips. Off to cook some fish for the broth

My cat as far as I know very rarley drinks water but she has a really healthy coat and otherwise seems very happy.

Since I moved to an older place and upstairs my male cat seven or eight years old does not get out. He quit work drinking water completely. He had a combination of a wet and dry diet urinary tract infections twice in the last six months and done antibiotics and he got better and then it came back So we did more medicine which is torture and I cannot get him to drink. I’m putting water in his wet food also chicken broth without sodium a squirt water in his mouth but not enough because I cannot water board my cat. He did not like the foundation at all. He does not drink out of the sink like most cats. He used to drink out of my cup but does not anymore and he does not drink No matter what kind of bowl I use. I have tried all suggestions and I don’t know what else to do .he’s in good spirits And not in pain. They tell people to keep their cats inside they don’t tell them the risk factors never getting any exercise. I have tried everything and I don’t know what to do yeah I can feed him prescription cat food mixed with people food fish, chicken I just don’t know how long we’re going to go on like this. I saw that my cat was not drinking water so I pour water in her food. Then I bought her a fountain 😭 she looked at it and stared at me because it wasn’t food
This may or may not apply to my cat's hydration however she's been throwing up her food constantly and we had the vet tell us nothing was visibly wrong with her (through x-ray and evaluation). Could it be that she's not drinking enough daily or is she just picky?

OK, so my cats quantity and frequency of water intake is money based, the more i spend on bigger bowls, filtered water and fountain type drinking apparatus the less he will drink - I give up.
He seems perfectly happy to drink from the tap, so i let him drink as much as he likes while I'm brushing my teeth or taking a relaxing bath.
He's an absolute nut job , but i love him to bits.
There are other benefits to cats drinking either from a fountain or (if you have a picky cat like mine) from a continuous drip of water from the faucet. There's a reason standing water is such a huge issue in the food industry. It is an ideal breeding ground for mosquitoes, flies, and various bacteria and parasites. No, you're not likely to get into much trouble if you're regularly changing and refilling their dish, but stagnant water develops a stale quality that many animals just don't like.
I tend to have various sources of water for my cat around the house for her, including water bowls. I'm also a little lucky because our landlord pays the water bill. Because of this, a small, dripping stream from one sink gets her drinking water consistently. This isn't feasible for many, so a fountain might go a long way. My cat was really sick as a kitten (we couldn't afford blood tests to figure out why, but a Hail Mary pass of steroids and antibiotics saved her life), and during that time she became severely dehydrated. She had to subcutneous injections of water multiple times to help solve that immediate issue, and I had to regularly give her water with a syringe. Ever since then, I've been incredibly vigilant of her water intake. She has no problems with it now, but I still keep a close eye out of habit and lingering worry. Before it ever reaches such an extreme point, making sure cats have a water system in place that fulfills their needs and preferences is essential.
Also, I've seen some cats who don't care, but keeping water and food in separate spaces really seems to be the overall tactic.

My cat primarily eats dry food the only wet food she eats is tuna (not the cat food tuna). She doesn't drink out of bowls she only drink up of a cups or sometimes rain water. My cat never drank water. I had a fountain but it didn't work. I found that getting cat soup and mixing it with water was the only way to get him to drink. Now he's drinking 250ml per day. I use felix or cosma cat soup watered down. A cheaper option is to get those licky stix paste tubes and water then down. Basically any water soluble food your cat loves

Our kitty Gizmo only drinks water when we fill the sink for him. We figure this falls in line with the “only Fresh” water cat-egory, however I’ve also noticed that despite him being perfectly healthy with no sign of vision problems, he will “paw 🐾 “ at it as though he has trouble seeing the water 💧 itself 🙀. Is it possible due to the highly reflective nature of water that in a way it could be blinding his highly sensitive eyes to light? He dose appear to squint as he’s drinking 🤔.

It works! I put chicken stock mixed with a few of his favourite dry kibble that espcially made to dissolve struvite and he drank the stocks!
He kept trying to eat the kibble, but since there were lot of water, he ended up drank 90% of it. In the end, he didn't interest in the kibble anymore.
Thank you thank you for the tips! I'm having q hard time right now because he has been diagnosed with FLUTD and likely acute kidney failure if not properly treat. He has crystal/struvite on his bladder and had a blockage. He had been on cathetered a few days ago in the clinic and just went home. He can pee again. One way to flush the crystals out is to drink a LOT of water. Sadly, he is known to drink less water. These tips help and also the fountain.

My cat's drinking water is in a stainless steel glass (from Ikea) on the floor in the corner of the bathroom doorway. That way, it's right in front of my face whenever I use the bathroom, so it's easy for me to check both the level and the cleanliness of her water several times a day, refreshing it when necessary.

Here's the irony.
It is a game. You make the rules.
Turn the tap off.
Put a small bowl under a very finely running stream. When your cat has finished drinking from the faucet, leave the bowl.
Work to move from the faucet licking to the bowl-in-the-sink drinking.
I'd work to transitioning the bowl to her feeding area.
In reality, I think she outgrew it. We moved to another country with a completely different climate.
Of our three different countries, my cat has only had one faucet fetish.
She is not dependent upon my turning on the tap in order for her to drink. I made the rules.
Don't let the tap, faucet, sink or drain be the only water source for you cat.
Leave a clean bowl of water every day. Even if you think they don't notice it.

@@alyssaaguilar88 Yeah thats pretty much the only exception, kitten formula milk. To be fair though it would obviously be better for the kitten if they were being fed by mum, but an orphaned kitten is a thing from time to time. Unfortunately also it is common thats breed pets are seperated from their mothers to soon.

I got mine a fountain because she has had to get a shot of water because she was so dehydrated but she is scared of it. I don’t know what to do anymore. Hi, sorry if I'm late! But maybe a syringe (without the needle) will help, Try just inserting it into her mouth, and slowly pushing the syringe so the water comes out if she seems uncomfortable, stop, keep checking if she's swallowing or not, that's what I did to my cat but I don't know if it's ok for your cat.
(Try not to be disturbed while doing it, you might end up hurting your cat, my dog was near me and I almost pushed a lot of water right through her throat)

When she gets thirsty she asks me for food and then only licks the gravy off or the jelly, or the soup part and doesn't eat the meat. So I get loads of plates of meat to clean up everyday. I got her a fountain and she hates it. I wish someone would sell liquid for cats to drink. There are some on Amazon US but they are all sold out. I'll try getting her a huge shallow glass dish to drink from and see if that helps. So annoying how you have to keep trying various things just to get the madam to drink some effing water.
Wonderful. I have gotten a fountain a couple of months ago but haven't had a chance to set it up. I hope to soon. I was previously aware that drinking and urinating a lot could be a sign of diabetes and had my cat checked. Which was a good thing as she turned out to be diabetic. I thought it would be difficult to give injections but found that isn't the case at all.
My babies love water, once i got them a fountain they seem to drink water every 20 min lol

Somebody help I got my cat from a friend with no knowledge about cats... She feed her WHOLE COW MILK so she's used to it.... She has diarrhea... And shes so used to the milk so won't drink water
Pastel you might try switching to goat milk. i’ve seen it at mudd bay for cats in the freezer section. goat milk will be more tolerable to her digestive system bc the protein molecule is smaller and not so disruptive to a cats digestive system. feed WET high quality cat food (can add small amt water to that). Cats should get a lot of liquid from their food bc they are not big water drinkers. it’s really important to get cats off of dry food. it can potentially save them from dying from kidney disease later on.
Your cat shoudn't be drinking any milk at all. It really irritates me seeing people recommend another species milk for cats. Once they've weaned off thats it. get a water fountain, look them up they are very popular and lots of ppl rate them

My cat eats wet food and dry food normally but she just scratches at her water bowl and doesn’t drink it. she scratches it all night but she will not drink, I’ve moved her water bowl, and given her different water bowls. I am trying to get a water fountain but my mom will not buy it for me and I am only 14 please help!!

I add the water to his food at least he gets a little water. he is scared of the new fountain i got him. he always preferred outside water and that could be one reason he got sick with AIDS virus for cats.

bruh when i put water for my cats they just sit there and do nothing but when i give the female cat milk she drinks it and the male still doesnt drink it all he craves is wet food
