This was a great video! I bought a set of Snap On sockets sometime during my late teens. I'm retired now and still have them. In a couple of months, they'll be paid off!
I really enjoyed the film! My Father was a boat builder. During the war he was building and repairing Motor Torpedo Boats (MTB’s). Around something like 50 years ago, he was employed to replace all the ash timber frame on a Woody at a local car repair garage (would it have been a Lea Francis?). He was a really skilled craftsman and made a fantastic job of it.
Hi Dom, great video. Adore the New Forrest! Hats off to the Beaulieu workshop staff for letting you in! Commented before about my involvement with a Ranalah, but I was told that the particular machine I used in the 80's, was responsible for some of the bodywork on Donald Campbell's Bluebird CN7, specifically the parachute cover. Maybe worth looking into 🤔. ps. Nice shrinking hammer! 👍
Brilliant video Dom, going to the September Autojumble was always an essential calendar date and one of the biggest regrets was back in 1981 , seeing a mint one -owner ' 65 Austin Mini Cooper S with 15,000 genuine miles for £1950 , a lot of money at the time but knew I'd regret not ' pushing the boat out ' to buy it it .Saw it some 13 years later at aAlexandra Palace show with just a further 2000 miles !.
This is a wonderful tour of the Beaulieu auto jumble, it captures the fantastic range of tools and parts available there, as well as the friendly atmosphere. I was encouraged to go this year by your post of last years event, and thoughly enjoyed it. Amazed by what was on offer and by the open and friendly people there.
@@sinsooty6290 there’s a smaller version every May and the big one in September. Both highly recommended. Details on the events page of National Motor Museum Beaulieu.
@@riderzinc if you want to be one of the first few hundred through the gate you’ll need to get there early and queue, but once it’s been open about half an hour queues shouldn’t be too bad. Advance tickets will certainly get you in quicker though and I’d recommend doing that. On a hot day you’ll be glad if you bring drinks with you, there’s plenty of food and drink on site but it’s not cheap.
Hi Dom! Saw you on the Goodwood live stream today showing off one of your Ranalahs! I pretty sure the girl had absolutely no idea what you were talking about! Make sure that you lock the 10mm sockets in the Snap On set away, they tend to escape never to be seen again!
I've never been to Beaulieu Autojumble - figuring it would be a really (expensive &) bad idea to go! Your video has only confirmed this! When I go to things like this, it's a good day when all I buy is an Ice Cream!
I carry a military tool bag in my 1971 westy but I have never needed it on the road and I drive the old camper bus about 10,000 miles a year here in Alaska.
I loved the Alvis shooting brake my uncle had a similar ( but earlier) woody by Wood and Pickett. He bought it for £25 in 1959. It stayed in a lockup until the 90s then was sold and re- bodied. Another fine video Dominic 👍
What a coincidence. I bought the Unimat lathe from the same chap you got your apprentice box off. It's on the table on the right of the picture at 7.06. Great video.
Love your passion, saw that Blue Bird at the British Motor Show, 17 1/2 litres of power, if felt like the air and ground were vibrating in unison absolutely beautiful. Live next to the New Forest and spent most of my childhood hood playing in it. What can you say about Beaulieu, motor museum is very good, but the Chocolate shop in the village is even better! 🤗
Hi Dom..... A very interesting video thank you for posting, i had the privilege of working in that workshop for 2 weeks in the summer of 1978, there were two mechanics there then called Doug and Ashley, i believe doug is now the Chief Engineer? Nothing has changed in all that time even the lathe is still in the same location. I had a very similar tool makers cabinet to the one you purchased, mine was manufactured by "Moore & Wright", they are very good for storing micrometers, vernier calipers, and DTI's etc..... Best regards to you and your family, Stefano...
Dominic I was there on Saturday and bought some lovely vintage tools from the guy you bought the machinist tool chest of. I've been to his fantastic stall twice but didn't even see those. I'm so sorry I didn't see you though, I would've loved to have met you.
Another great vlog Dom. I still have my wooden Instrument Makers tool box made by the 'EMIR' company. It cost me £4-12s-6d in 1964 and I paid 10/- shillings per week for it out of my apprenticeship wage of £3-12s-4d per week.
Thank you Dom great video as always wow would love to of gone there a lot of amazing stuff keep up the great work love what you do on UA-cam and the repair shop too ♥️👍👍👍
Snap On are nice but so expensive. In my youth we used to call them Rip Off. Just get Halfords Advanced tools, very good and come with a lifetime guarantee. Thanks for the tour, I really should go and have a mooch about.
The picture that has the sliver of a Ranalah was taken at Williams & Pritchard and shows the prototype Monica car. Have a search for Williams & Pritchard on the interwebs and you will find another shot showing more of the Ranalah.
I'm not going to buy anything, yeah right, you're just like me Dom when I walk into a supermarket and they have Jamesons whiskey on special...🤣🤣🤣🤣 another top video Dom thank you
How about making a penny farthing? would make a good series. I plan on making one myself at some point so would be good to see how you would tackle it.
Hi Dom great video as always , When you do another one of these trips could you mention some of the prices for some of the items It would be nice to know
I bought a heavy duty rear step bumper for a mk1 or mk2 transit bargain £30 Took it home carried in the garden Mum asked what's that for A transit But you haven't got a transit I know But if I get a transit this is the bumper I want to fit on it Took me 10 years to find the correct type transit to fit on my bumper 😂

Another great vid Dom. Living in Vancouver for the last 30 odd years, I do miss being able to attend these kind of events. I’ll make sure my next UK trip has some on my travel schedule. Thanks for reminding me I need to come back more often. Now, about that Porsche - any more work planned in the near future?
A stupid question, have you looked for the patents, for your Ranalah? If they filed patents, you might get all of their specifications and stuff, for their wheels.
Not as busy as previous years especially the Sunday, think the organisers need a serious rethink or it could die. The yellow field was a shadow of its former self. I guess brexit has had a hand in it too.
for such a big car and a 1,0000 hp we can get the same out of a small block with twin turbo,s in a van it run ,s 9.48 @148 mph so far we race it at santapod or you can see it on youtube

Not the same Snap-On guy at the Autojumble who I traded a rusty seized WWII ⅜ drive ratchet that I'd just bought from a seller for pennies with a bunch of other tools, for a new one back in '79! But it's still in use, never failed.
