My entry into the construction industry back in the 1980s was tieing steel. If I had the knowledge and basic equipment this guy utilises, methinks I may have more years left to live.
Just saw your question.. yes, definitely could do an ethereal figure with chicken wire over rods or lengths of fencing wire stuck in the ground bent over and shaped. Lace together with lacing wire...
Hi, May I ask how thick in mm was this rebar please? I want to have the 4 bar trench mesh to bend the mid section into a garden arch for my veggies garden. Hope you can advise and help. Thanks so much, Tiffany.
Hi Tiffany...it was 10mm 3/8 inch approx. 'Deformed' ie has little ridges all along it. Yes you should be able to do a form of the drum trick with a strip of mesh, starting the bend in the middle may be best if you brace upright drum while a helper bends it around drum... Or fill drum with water for stability...
Ah,, quite a tight circle! I'd say may be too hard to roll such a curve this way- I'd go the other way, screw the barrel to a plywood or similar sheet, fasten the sheet to a bench or pin to the ground, then clamp the end of tge rebar to the lip of the barrel or alternatively poke into a hole in the barrel, tgen walk the rebar around the barrel...then as in my 'How to bend rebar into rings, fast' video, cut through the resulting coil of rebar with an angle grinder with cutoff wheel ..
Hi..it's a thin shell of strong mortar - cement plaster - trowelled into various thicknesses of steel bar and or mesh usually with several layers of fine half inch -13mm- chicken wire tightly laced together with thin wire. The plaster is often smoothed over with a second coat but the steel remains close to the surface so there's a lot of fine reinforcement throughout the shell. It's Sunday and that's a rough description only!
I wish you were my neighbor. You've been inspiring. Thank you very much! You're really proficient at your art
Just what I'm looking for! A simple way to bend big circles without a machine (rollers) or heat. Thank you.
I work with steel a lot and I have to say your dam good and a joy to listen to.
Hello from Canada ! Amazing art your creating !!
At first sight I thought, what does this guy know about bending rebar with his funny hat. Sir you are a genius and an artist from what I can see.
Thank you... other names have been called! But yes i do learn stuff by trying out...
I love that your doing stuff that took me years to figure out.
Thanks for liking this...hope it helps, inspires yet more practical creativity
Genius idea!! Thank you! I actually need to bend some rebar in that diameter for a sculpture I'll be building soon.

A VERY COOL DUDE ! HIS KIND OF BLOKES .... INVENTED THE W H E E L !
Is this a New Zealand thing, to wear a sport coat while doing metalworking? Classy. 😊
I like coats... And cheap at opshop! Quick to put on or take off in the changeable NZ weather... And usually good pockets for stuff...

I just found you and LOVE your work/creativity. Please, please, please improve the camera work and sound. PLEASE !!
We are working on the filming, with our son using a pixel phone. Working outside, the sound can be difficult...

Interesting. That’s not the rebar that has the ribs on? That’s more high tensile and hard to bend? Thanks.
It is 'deformed' ie has ribs, but not high tensile... ive tried that by accident knce...VERY springy and hard!
What is the size of the rebar I would like to roll 1/2 hot rolled round around a barrel 22.5” od

Surely 3/8th rebar? (9.5mm)
So what is ferrocement? Rebar reinforced mortar?

I think that's a Death Ray next to the door.
This would be worth watching if the volume were louder.
