    The huge takeaway from this is that while there wasn’t any issues with your work, you were more concerned about the customer being unhappy. That shows a lot about your integrity. Not many people would’ve gone back and sorted a ‘doesn’t need to be sorted’ issue. 👏👏👏

    Problem with porcelain slabs, people think they are like tiles on a wall and have high material expectations of perfection. Well done, risky business getting the joints raked out and not damaging the tiles.

    I am a Mason I did a tile job a couple winters ago with 1ft x 2ft tiles so they had that curve in the middle so I layed them 1/2 bond and they had that lip wich I explained to the home owner luckily they didn't complain I did some research and learned that tile setters lay them in 1/3 bond so the lip is not as noticeable

    • @brickrightbuildinglandscaping
      @brickrightbuildinglandscaping  Рік тому +2

      Spot on Richard
      Ive also heard if the manufacturer cilns them to hot when cooling they bend .so a better quality control at the factory makes sense but its not happening they just chuck em out the door then its not there problem is it and the get payed.
      I have many brochures with half bond patterns so that means its acceptable if its in there brochures to do half bond.
      In my opinion manufacturers need to take more responsibility for the quality of there products.

    Even high end porcelain slabs have lipping , i jud had to install a product that the customer purchased online i believe was a spanish porcelain and the things wernt even square, after laying the 1st course the joints on the second course where not matching . 1mm here 2mm there and it was frustrating. I pulled out my small builders square and some of the slabs where 2mm off square . Luckily i used 5mm spacers and managed to make it work .

    • @brickrightbuildinglandscaping
      @brickrightbuildinglandscaping  Рік тому

      Shadsz that is terrible. Tiles not even square that makes the installation impossible to get right.As i said in the video it makes your installation look bad when its the material.
      Manufacturers need to be made responsible.
      They sell there products make good profits and walk away most trades make no profits just a days work .its not acceptable shadsz is it

    Cant help getting the odd thing like this now and again Justin, just hope it's not too often. I'm back at a job finished a month or so ago myself tomorrow, Indian sandstone path up to and along a decking area leading to an office studio building clad in Hardie planks. The decking is raised (composite) and had been edged (facia?) with the same Hardie planks as the office building. When digging out, it was a bit tight and the digger bucket damaged a small section of the Hardie plank edging on the decking area. So I'm back there tomorrow to put it right. Customers very good and didn't mind waiting. As you say, it is very important to keep the customer happy.

    Natural materials, in a natural environment, equals natural 'minor natural inequalities'. Do you remember last year, we mentioned about a 12 x months warranty fee? Only a minor amount, but I'm sure, correctly worded, would have told the customer what to expect. Weather, temperature fluctuations and 'natural settlement' would tell the customer what is and what is not covered. Sometimes, the best jobs you do are the ones that you don't take on! I'd say £100 for a 12 x month callout/re-grout warranty? Anyway mate, when you've finished, ask the customer for a written acceptance of the work. Don't get disheartened Justin and Fray, your work reputation precedes you.

Scorching the tile then that would be a real pisser lol. Can’t bend them buddy why manufactures on the 1200 formats recommended a 200 lap and not half bonded personally hate half bond looks naff random quarter lap looks better. 2x2,s tile think looks better straight lines brick bins messy with all
    The the lines. But just give customer what they want really a would took the spirit level over there head. Some customers just don’t get it mate want cheap tiles and expect them to a flat as arrow some cheaper range tiles have small 1mm -2mm bows in them.

      There was a definite responsibility by the manufacturers to supply some good products.
      Now most of the so called high end or costly porcelain isnt even full bodied and comes from Bulgaria.
      There is a definite changes since covid in manufacturers saying there products are this and that and they dont live up to previous expectations. They should advertise and make it very clear whats full bodied, vitrified etc .Manufacturers have pulled the wool over peoples eyes.
      Results for the client isn't as good as it has been in quality and for us its harder to make money off porcelain.
