    Justin is a God sent. Got the plastic spatula from Screwfix (Marshalltown QLT Joint Knife Set 3 Pieces (945GL) for 6 quid), and I got the SBR to prime the slabs (1 SBR 1 Water and 4 to 5 cement).I hired a cement mixer from Bradfords, and mixed 4 to 1 with sharp sand for the concrete bed. Still struggling to get the water quantity right (too wet). Got the 5mm spacers like yours with a slight modification: I drilled a hole and put a cable tie through it. It stops them falling into the gaps and they're easier to pull out once the slabs are set. Oh and I bought a full set of spirit levels. It's my first time laying a patio, but I could not have done it without you Every time I finish laying a bed of concrete I sign it with Zorro, think of you and smile, all my childhood memories coming back. Thank you from sunny Plymouth (well, till Saturday).

    I love your video! I live in Southern California and for the most part, we have dry weather. You are fortunate to have cold wet/damp weather so that you can take your time working your pavers. When it's hot a dry...the "mix" starts to set quicker.

    • @brickrightbuildinglandscaping
      @brickrightbuildinglandscaping  3 місяці тому +1

      @MrBrandy40
      Difficult to explain by text but you need to establish a start point and an end point for you fall.lay your first tile then your last tile and check the fall .As long as the spirit level shows the bubble on the line on the level your fall is good to go .You can set up you line then aswell if needed.
      Hope that helps you 👍

      Thanks very much... I do gardening and I'm a jobbing actor but someone put me on a slabbing job recently and I royally messed it up
      I used to labour to a squad doing monoblock / slabs w5 years so hard landscaping I've only really done toering abd retention walls and some drainage French drains and such this year
      So when i got hoodwinked into taking on a slabbing job with terrible money with no type 1, no cement mixer and questionable levels i met the client and kmpressed him by moving 10 tonne of top soil on my barrowing but the next day in the clear light of day I could see the mistake I'd made taking the slabbing on . The patio twisted around a half crescent round a dry stone wall and ran to a gate at front porch and half way on the other side to a summer house / office.
      I was told tge levels were correct but it had inly bee whacked on sand! I brought string line to three different points that morning, but it was impossible as the longest stretch had such a significant fall.and was about 12 yards long that I couldn't see if I should run the string line that length abd gradient
      I knew I either had to dig down and type one everywhere but I ended up throwing the towel in. 😢
      The budget was 0. There was sand and cement and I tried doing everything by hand but the slabs 150 of them had been stupidly lined up inside the patio area!

      It's all a learning curve it is for all of us .
      I'd suggest learning the art of saying no .
      Surprisingly it's a hard thing to do because you want to please people .If your ever unsure about taking on work just say NO.
      Your not the only person to do it I've done it myself.
      You did the right thing to throw the towel in .
      I wish you all the very best for the future and it's made you wiser so nothing lost and something gained .
      Good luck to you mate .

    • @brickrightbuildinglandscaping
      @brickrightbuildinglandscaping  4 місяці тому

      All the info should be on the video.
      Set your fall for your patio so that the bubble on the level touches the line .
      Then once you achieve this level .set your eco drains so they are about 5mm lower than the patio level so the water doesn't hold but instead falls into the drain .hope that makes sense to you and good luck 👍

    Hi just got a tradesmen to price my patio, I've got all materials there porcelain slabs, sharp sand 2 1/2 bags, and the foundation was already layed, from previous builder he never returned.
    However this tradesmen doesn't want to use the sharp sand says it won't stick to slabs, but surely that's why slurry is used, just like to no your opinion.
    Lastly as someone who's layed some 2x2 council slabs in the past, would porcelain just be too difficult, this question is open do the guys, however if they're too busy, any guys with experience I could use some advice.

    • @builderNorthamptonn
      @builderNorthamptonn 3 місяці тому

      To be honest as a builder of 35 years I wouldn't use just sharp alone . My go to mix is a ratio of 50/50 sharp and soft sand to bite with a shovel of hydrated lime. I never understood the reason to prime the slabs ! If they are really dry just water with a roller. Sticks like SHxT. No come backs ever . And always tap the slab just off centre like a clock face and never the edge's or corners as it will rock!!

      Hi since you've been great answering all my questions so far I was hoping to pick your brains further, I got a tradesman to look at my job, porcelain patio, already got the porcelain and had 2 1/2 bags of sharp sand.
      He doesn't want want to use the sharp sand, said it wouldn't stick, but surely that's where the slurry comes in, and instead he wants to use builders sand, what is your thoughts do some tradesmen have there own way of doing things.
      I was going to tackle this job myself, but for someone who has layed some 2x2 council slabs, I was maybe biting off more than I can chew lol, truthfully in your opinion would you say porcelain is just to hard to lay for a near novice, promise this is my last question and I won't keep stalking you,Thanks.
