Our ancestors used to eat millets, which are rich in fibre. I believe our diet was disturbed when Britishers invaded us.. after they left India in a very bad situation where millions didn't have anything to eat , high yielding crops were grown using fertilizers which is still going on. Now we are in a relatively stable position and people like Dr Khadar vali are bringing back the need to eat fibre based food like millets. I'm really glad that our government is also pushing for the same. It's time we get back to our traditional diet.

you may be lactose intolerant , or your gut bacterio may be bad due to too much meat and you may need to increase your fruits and vegetables , especially fiber .

Not when non vegan choices are affecting others. The animals abused and killed in animal agriculture want to live too and since food choices made by carnists are also affecting the planet, non vegans need to seriously start reconsidering their food choices. We have no Planet B.

Older generations used to consume this as ganji/ambali/khameer daily in the mornings. Black Till (sesame seeds), sitaphal, chia seeds are great sources of calcium. I'm a Bengali, and I live in a village 80km away from Kolkata. Here we consume at least 2-3 vegetable dishes everyday for lunch and one or two for the dinner with rice (most of the time). And also almost every day we eat fish (lunch) and chicken usually on Sunday. Tell me is it safe to consume fish every day ?
Fish comes under white meat as Dr. Pal said and he said not to eat red meat. So, I think we're good. Our meal is well balanced ( I from Kolkata, and more or less we eat same like you ). I have opted to go vegatarian 4 days a week, increasing the days from just 1 day to 4 days. It definetly feels good, like Ranveer said there is a trade off in terms of doing physical work like playing football, it was difficult for me too trying to play at first but eventually I got used to it, I hope to stop meat consumption completely in the future.
Yes transition to vegetarian diet from meat based diet makes you feel like that in the beginning but later on it gets used to like before. There were many world champion wrestlers and strongmen from Indian subcontinent who were completely vegetarian during 19th century. Now also there are if you see in Haryana etc states.

I am not Indian and have been Vegetarian for decades and now Vegan. I am 68 years old. I eat beans and dals very often in my diet and I am very healthy. I have none of ailments that older people often develope. I also never ever think of exactly how much protein I eat. I believe that this protein hype is created by meat industry to counter attack the increase in the number of people who move from a carnavor to plant based diet.

Correction - 0.8 gm per kg per day is RDA not Mininimum protein requirement. RDA is + 2 Sd from the mean ( average req=0.6gm/kg/day). RDA is sufficient for 98-99% of Healthy people to meet their protein requirement statistically. It does not mean that if you eat less than 0.8 then you will be protein deficient. The proper interpretation is 0.8 :- 98 to 99% meet their requirement 0.6 :- 50% meet their requirement RDA is not to be interpreted as the minimum for the entire population. Its a very ideal goal not the minimum ! Most People can thrive on way less. Hope it make sense.

I am a vegetarian and recently diagnosed with a very low b12 and d3. I think the meat in moderation should be ok to eliminate these problems at the same time to stay away from unnecessary supplements.
Don't take supplements, eat beetroot, carrots cooked & add raw onion, tomatoes, green coriander to make salad. Add black salt & 5-6 black peppers. It tastes yummy & b12 will increase.

i am a vegan and is very easy for me to be a vegan the only thing i miss is curd and nothing else not even ice-cream but i made my own curd at home (cashew curd) or i just buy cashew curd from supermarket its tastes exactly the same and has all the probiotics (good bactaria) and calcium and stuff so i dont miss out on curd anymore!!

This is a very interesting discussion and a very insightful one, just like any other clips from this channel. I came across a thought recently about why is the making of non vegetarian food is not shown end to end in any television or in public media? Example, one can pluck a pumpkin or a tomato from a tree and wash it and then cook it. All of these can be shown in television. But the same cannot be done for non vegetarian food. Why? If some parts of this non vegetarian food making are even inappropriate to watch, is it something appropriate to eat? I could also be wrong, but just putting this idea here for a wider reach.

Being Non-vegetarian, I also facinated that our ancestors have calculated the correct amount of Protein we need for our body to sustain: Breakfast - Poha, Upma, Parathe-Thalipeeth with Curd, Idli-sambar - 10-15 Gms of Protein(200-400 Cal) Lunch - 3-4 Roti + 2 Veggies(combination of Leafy, Beans or other veg) + Rice-Dal - 40-45 Gms(1100 Cal) Dinner - 2-3 Roti + 1 Veggie or Simply Dal-rice - 20 Gms(300-400 Cal) Total Protein intake - 70-80 Gms( less than 2000 cal) just by balanced vegetarian diet... No meat included... can fulfill your body needs... If someone who works out or are bodybuilder can increase protein intake by adding Nuts & Milk to their Diet...

Sir,since you are promoting plant based diet....why dont you also expose the problem of Indian farmers, vendors and stockist colouring the produce to make it appear more fresh....they immerse vegetables in colours.... the Indian Administration, like BDO ,SDO they know very well where such malpractice occurs yet theres no strict vigilance nor any strict Law to arrest such miscreants....Its very good to eat vegetables but unchecked amount of pesticides and other harmful chemical application to such produce and its health hazards also need to be addressed....

All these vitamin name n numbers are now coming to picture, some 40yrs back everyone was eating veg n non veg and with good health and use to work in fields.
Tried both vegan diet and normal balanced diet (obviously), it doesn't make any difference to performance or muscle gain, I would say the vegan diet gave me more energy though, and also faster recovery.

Good for you but do pay attention to vitamin d3 and b12 levels. 90 percent of the year I actually eat full vegan these days because my favourite recipes are vegan. However for the last 27 days I am eating whatever and drinking whatever because one of my male cats left house and hasn't been back. It is driving me nuts. But anyways I do feel more lethargic eating so much meat (I just order and eat in restaurants these days, and I don't care what it is)... Maybe because I stopped working out too... God knows.

What i observe is an ever increasing love for Briyanni and meat dishes with increasing number of shops and versions...and slowly this shift affecting people not cooking or restaurants selling local culturally termed menus..with regional curries of certain vgetables and types of cuisine...we have started losing food dishes that were commonly seen on the family dinner tables about 10years ago..ever increasing passion to eat out and order food from stores also increases its own set of health problems and a social proble of families not sitting down, as a family, to appreciate a good healthy meal together...a family thatceats together stays together!!

People in the west live longer than Indians, and they eat ton of meat. It depends on the multigenerational diet of the people. India being a warm nation, with a lot of agricultural production year round, people can go with primarily vegetarian food,. People of Siberia or Iceland or Scandinavia can not survive without a lot of meat. So it depends.
That's cause we as a population are just starting to recover from constant Famines and we gain better medical facilities with better economic conditions. We will 100% be better in lifespans in 50 years if we stay on path and focus on increasing protein in our daily diet.

For Vitamin B12 deficiency for vegans, there are good options : 1. Fermented porridge made of millets especially in a earthen pot 2. Vegan curd made of peanut milk, coconut milk etc. These are extremely healthy options too. Information courtesy : Dr. Khadar Valli, Padmasri . For Vitamin D3 : for Indians there is enough sun light.
Just add nutritional yeast. Sorted.

Body can make B12. Try this yourself. If you are B12 deficient, try eating some fermented rice dish in the morning. This is called “chaddanam” in Telugu speaking states and called “Ganji”, “Kanji” in other states too. Just ferment cooked rice with milk by adding some yogurt overnight. Get your B12 checked after a month

True same happened to me
Our ancestors used to eat millets, which are rich in fibre. I believe our diet was disturbed when Britishers invaded us.. after they left India in a very bad situation where millions didn't have anything to eat , high yielding crops were grown using fertilizers which is still going on. Now we are in a relatively stable position and people like Dr Khadar vali are bringing back the need to eat fibre based food like millets. I'm really glad that our government is also pushing for the same. It's time we get back to our traditional diet.

The problem is that some people face issues like bloating and excessive gas after having Rajma, Chole, Chana, and even Paneer. What should we do in such cases? How do we get enough protein?
We just don't.
Try tofu, tempeh, plant whey. Soya products are wonderful, and don't listen to the rise in estrogen myth. Also it's important to start raising protein amount slowly and focus on drinking adequate water and including high fibre food.

Please please please invite Dr. Khadar Vali, the millet man of India. Also, for vitamin B12, fermented millets are the best source. Older generations used to consume this as ganji/ambali/khameer daily in the mornings. Black Till (sesame seeds), sitaphal, chia seeds are great sources of calcium. I'm a Bengali, and I live in a village 80km away from Kolkata. Here we consume at least 2-3 vegetable dishes everyday for lunch and one or two for the dinner with rice (most of the time). And also almost every day we eat fish (lunch) and chicken usually on Sunday. Tell me is it safe to consume fish every day ?

I have opted to go vegatarian 4 days a week, increasing the days from just 1 day to 4 days. It definetly feels good, like Ranveer said there is a trade off in terms of doing physical work like playing football, it was difficult for me too trying to play at first but eventually I got used to it, I hope to stop meat consumption completely in the future.
Yes transition to vegetarian diet from meat based diet makes you feel like that in the beginning but later on it gets used to like before. There were many world champion wrestlers and strongmen from Indian subcontinent who were completely vegetarian during 19th century. Now also there are if you see in Haryana etc states.

I am not Indian and have been Vegetarian for decades and now Vegan. I am 68 years old. I eat beans and dals very often in my diet and I am very healthy. I have none of ailments that older people often develope. I also never ever think of exactly how much protein I eat. I believe that this protein hype is created by meat industry to counter attack the increase in the number of people who move from a carnavor to plant based diet.

RDA is sufficient for 98-99% of Healthy people to meet their protein requirement statistically. It does not mean that if you eat less than 0.8 then you will be protein deficient.
The proper interpretation is
0.8 :- 98 to 99% meet their requirement
0.6 :- 50% meet their requirement
RDA is not to be interpreted as the minimum for the entire population. Its a very ideal goal not the minimum ! Most People can thrive on way less.

I am a vegetarian and recently diagnosed with a very low b12 and d3. I think the meat in moderation should be ok to eliminate these problems at the same time to stay away from unnecessary supplements.
Don't take supplements, eat beetroot, carrots cooked & add raw onion, tomatoes, green coriander to make salad. Add black salt & 5-6 black peppers. It tastes yummy & b12 will increase.

i am a vegan and is very easy for me to be a vegan the only thing i miss is curd and nothing else not even ice-cream but i made my own curd at home (cashew curd) or i just buy cashew curd from supermarket its tastes exactly the same and has all the probiotics (good bactaria) and calcium and stuff so i dont miss out on curd anymore!!

I came across a thought recently about why is the making of non vegetarian food is not shown end to end in any television or in public media? Example, one can pluck a pumpkin or a tomato from a tree and wash it and then cook it. All of these can be shown in television. But the same cannot be done for non vegetarian food. Why? Listening to my Body made all the difference for me
Nobody else is Me, so I took this path, and it made all the difference (just in case, it makes sense to Someone else)
No wonder Indian elders only cooked non-veg once in a week…mostly on Sundays

Being Non-vegetarian, I also facinated that our ancestors have calculated the correct amount of Protein we need for our body to sustain:
Breakfast - Poha, Upma, Parathe-Thalipeeth with Curd, Idli-sambar - 10-15 Gms of Protein(200-400 Cal)
Lunch - 3-4 Roti + 2 Veggies(combination of Leafy, Beans or other veg) + Rice-Dal - 40-45 Gms(1100 Cal)
Dinner - 2-3 Roti + 1 Veggie or Simply Dal-rice - 20 Gms(300-400 Cal)
Total Protein intake - 70-80 Gms( less than 2000 cal) just by balanced vegetarian diet... No meat included... can fulfill your body needs... If someone who works out or are bodybuilder can increase protein intake by adding Nuts & Milk to their Diet...
Start eating beef, even Dr. Pal eats too.

Sir,since you are promoting plant based diet....why dont you also expose the problem of Indian farmers, vendors and stockist colouring the produce to make it appear more fresh....they immerse vegetables in colours.... the Indian Administration, like BDO ,SDO they know very well where such malpractice occurs yet theres no strict vigilance nor any strict Law to arrest such miscreants....Its very good to eat vegetables but unchecked amount of pesticides and other harmful chemical application to such produce and its health hazards also need to be addressed....

Tried both vegan diet and normal balanced diet (obviously), it doesn't make any difference to performance or muscle gain, I would say the vegan diet gave me more energy though, and also faster recovery.
I finished my first Full marathon after becoming a vegan. It has actually kept the energy level intact throughout, without any highs and lows.

90 percent of the year I actually eat full vegan these days because my favourite recipes are vegan. However for the last 27 days I am eating whatever and drinking whatever because one of my male cats left house and hasn't been back. It is driving me nuts. But anyways I do feel more lethargic eating so much meat (I just order and eat in restaurants these days, and I don't care what it is)... Maybe because I stopped working out too... God knows.
@@TheRedPandaTales Perhaps the greatest benefit of a vegan diet is in the form of cardio, so I think that right there speaks volumes. Also b12 is not usually a problem in my country India even if you are vegan. It is however a problem in Western countries and some states of the USA.

What i observe is an ever increasing love for Briyanni and meat dishes with increasing number of shops and versions...and slowly this shift affecting people not cooking or restaurants selling local culturally termed menus..with regional curries of certain vgetables and types of cuisine...we have started losing food dishes that were commonly seen on the family dinner tables about 10years ago..ever increasing passion to eat out and order food from stores also increases its own set of health problems and a social proble of families not sitting down, as a family, to appreciate a good healthy meal together...a family thatceats together stays together!!

As a Keralite I'm liking this video because ppl here consume beef nowadays as a political statement but they don't realize it is bad for them only.
People in the west live longer than Indians, and they eat ton of meat. It depends on the multigenerational diet of the people. India being a warm nation, with a lot of agricultural production year round, people can go with primarily vegetarian food,. People of Siberia or Iceland or Scandinavia can not survive without a lot of meat. So it depends.

That's cause we as a population are just starting to recover from constant Famines and we gain better medical facilities with better economic conditions. We will 100% be better in lifespans in 50 years if we stay on path and focus on increasing protein in our daily diet.

While we were growing up , generally in South Indian homes non vegetarian food was only a Sunday speciality …..we would eat a hearty non veg meal on Sunday and weekdays was only veg food and one would joyously anticipate the Sunday special non veg lunch ….unlike now eating out was not a culture.
