I could only imagine the beautiful emotional roller coaster that would be visiting such a well preserved abandoned place. Thank you YES Theory for taking us along. Also, the videography in this really really helped convey emotion and perspective in such a surreal environment. Top notch content!

@@blakeXYZ I don't think that kind of photo comes with a date stamp. Perhaps the camera had an expiration date that would indicate the year it was manufactured, but it probably won't narrow it down much further than knowing when the hotel closed.

"In a strange way, seeing nature claim back the land that once belonged to it, really makes me think then that in the midst of the problems that we're facing as a planet and human species, that ultimately our greatest risk is our own demise. Nature, over time, will eventually restore its original harmony." Always love the thoughtful and real commentary your videos share with us. Great video.
Depends on the cause of the demise. Mass extinction events knock out wildlife and nature too, be crazy to think what would take over if it wasn't trees and vines. Back to enormous mushroom spires maybe. New nature.
What problems are we facing except crazy hysteria? The vegitation is increasing at a fantastic rate and we have all we need. I know that the business people want us all to buy a new car but that will not help or harm the planet in any way but it will make certain people slightly richer. For the rest of us our lives will go on.
I recently moved to Hachijojima to teach English on the island. This video is so beautiful and I feel so grateful to be on the island now. I managed to explore the Royal hotel a week or two ago and thought it was stunning. Very dangerous but also such a surreal feeling to the whole thing. That undeveloped film is an absolute gem of a find. I was looking to see if there was anything interesting like that, the best I found was the Piano in the room with all the vegetation. It would be so cool to film someone playing on it
I doubt that the piano will still work if it's in a room with a lot of vegetation. Piano's and moisture don't go very well together. Would be an epic sight for sure tho!
25:34 This is the coolest shot of the video. It feels like a post-apocalyptic videogame where the character is accepting the fact that he's been left behind, just like this island has been left behind.
If you think about it post apocalyptic games based there environments on real locations, but most of us only experience these kind of locations in a video game.
This might be my favourite Yes Theory video ever. The photos on that camera were everything! The thought that people would have excitedly walked through those doors for their holiday and it would have been such a hive of activity is just mesmerising.

dont worry, japanese people are quit people who look for peace, as they are also government workers, they get paid a good amount of money. I also think those 3 students are the final remaining students to graduate before they shut it down.

Leaving items behind when moving or abandoning a property is known as "mottainai" , that roughly means to "not waste that which is valueable" i.e. to avoid wasting things that still have value, even if they are no longer needed by the person leaving them behind, but could be useful for anyone who might stumble upon it. It's a very beautiful practice.

I could only dream of staying in such a beautiful and high end hotel but here it sits abandoned, with everything left where it was. There’s something surreal about seeing a place that should be so expensive and fancy being abandoned and taking over by nature.
I loved this! I especially loved your description of the pull to explore places forgotten. Your work behind the camera and realness of feeling in your films resonates with truth and sincerity. I can feel similar emotions while watching. I can't thank you enough for doing this! Stay safe and don't stop making these!
Seeing the school moved me to tears 😢 If you raised kids through public school in Japan you know what this means. So touching to see. Thank you YesTheory!
All my life, I have always fell in love with collecting different things, especially things with historical impact. Those developed photos are truly breathtaking, something like that where you find a strangers' childhood memories is a once in a lifetime find. I was searching through books in a Goodwill and found a photo of a stranger between the pages. I assume his wife donated the book after his passing, but it's crazy to uncover something valuable and a memory lost in time, just for the next person to find.
These abandoned places videos you guys do are my absolute favorites! Wish you'd do more of these videos with places within the United States of America. Places that possibly I could visit at some point. Keep up the great content!😁👏🏻
These places are creepy. The contrast between an alive and busy city vs abandoned buildings and areas where natures is taking over. Places where there once was people living their lifes, enjoing holidays, having dinner conversations. Fascinating and strange at the same times. Finding that camera tho, my first thought was please take it and develop the pictures, and you did. Amazing. Thank you for sharing the story and the adventure with us.
Staffan is the most empath a person can get. He not only feels with others around him at the time and understands the situation they are in, but also can feel great emotion of people in the past that don’t even know of his existence. He was the best surprise and life lesson that could have come to Yes Theory.
I think he's a little much tbh. I mean, there are so many things that are worse than this in the world. It's a god damn event-area at a hotel. I would not give a care in the world if all the event-areas of the hotels I've been to were abandoned, yeah
The last minutes of the video were just incredible. Those shots and the music...gave me chills and makes me want to go to this place so bad! Definitely will
Man I wish I could go to Japan.. I keep begging my parents to take me there for my senior trip and even told them that I’d put all of my money from working into it but they keep saying that we dont have the money for it. I’ve been dying to go there for more than four years and be able to experience the different culture and people and food and sights. I’ve literally never left America and it just feels like there’s nothing more to the more to the world sometimes. Thank you guys for your videos, they’ve kept me optimistic for so long.
I don't know why, but the photos felt really emotional. Someone's family, daughter, grandmother, and the camera was left there, untouched. Really great video!
That feeling your describing in the beginning of your video is known as „kenopsia“ urban dictionary: n. the eerie, forlorn atmosphere of a place that’s usually bustling with people but is now abandoned and quiet. Loved your video!
Your excellent videos remind me of the curiosity, empathy and care with which Shiey explores the world. He investigates, takes nothing, and moves on. He certainly puts himself in a state of discomfort as he moves through each adventure, and his empathy is directed more towards the animals he encounters throughout his journeys, but it is sincere, and he is an old soul. I’m new to your channel, but what you have is magical - more than Shiey, it is your interactions with the people you meet, and the connections you make that are so interesting…your night in the sumo dojo was awesome! I hope to catch up on your library! Thanks, from a new sub in Canada!
dude I love those Rooms that has been taken over by nature, the green is really pop never expected familiar thing like our everyday room + overgrown plants is this good to see also good job editor, cinematographer and the color grader thanks for sharing
I can’t believe they visited that resort! I only learnt about the resort the other day when I stumbled upon it so I’m surprised to see a big UA-cam channel like Yes Theory do a video on it. I was looking up the Island and learning about it because I thought it would be interesting to live in such a place and then in the pictures on google I saw these pictures of this big abandoned hotel and I was intrigued. So I looked it up and read about it and I thought it was really interesting. When I saw the thumbnail for the video I was like “no way that’s the same hotel I’m thinking of. But it looks so much like it.” And then I clicked on the video and it was! I’m so surprised!
Enjoyed Staffan’s reflection at the end. Something that was meant to bring so much joy and entertainment is no longer there. Reflecting on that building shows that money can have a measure of protection, but how easily everything can be gone and lost just as fast.
Wow, just wow. This was extremely powerful. Love the camera work, love the work and time that was put into this. You can just picture the people there and laughing smiles.
Idk why, but when I saw this video I start to cry. Especially looking at the pictures of the people stayed at the hotel. 😭 feels like it’s a good memory they created back then. But now it’s totally abandoned, it’s so strange 🥺
Huuge fan from Morocco. I just spent my whole day watching your videos in a loop. The amount of joy and excitment i get from your adventures is absolutely heartwarming. I hope you never stop seeking discomfort and putting smiles upon strangers faces ❤
Awesome video!!! Seeing how spooked the piano playing made you at the first place I couldn’t help but wonder how you would have reacted if the phone in the apartment would have rang while you were standing there. It is amazing how everything is left untouched, no vandalism or graffiti all over. Speaks volumes about the culture. Greatly enjoyed everyone on this trip.
Imagine a movie about a boy or girl waking up in one of those apartments years after everyone left. And as we watch it, the boy or girl tries to get information about the past and why everybody left.

20:17 this has to be one of the most beautiful yet sad scenes in this video. The room filled with fern and dirt with the sun shining on them through the windows, it liiks like an postapocalyptic story
Brilliant video. That ending felt very melancholic with the photo camera. Think of the all the love, laughing, sadness and life lived in that building.

This is one of the most amazing video i have seen on UA-cam. And those old pictures is kinda scary, but still very exciting.
They kept the school for three students ... Uncredible story .. a video that got us through lots of feelings ... Thank you guys
@Jesusislord i am a muslim lhamdou li Allah i bear witness that there is no deity but Allah, and i bear witness that muhammed is the messenger of Allah. And in my religion we do believe that Jesus is a prophet of allah and there is only one god .. Allah swt ... "indeed, the guidance of Allah is the only guidness" surah Al-baqarah Ayat 120
The silence and abundance of that hotel gave me a deep and yet empty mixed feelings of how such places can still exist in this world.
I could only dream of staying in such a beautiful and high end hotel but here it sits abandoned, with everything left where it was. There’s something surreal about seeing a place that should be so expensive and fancy being abandoned and taking over by nature.
@Jesusislord-hd7fe cool story bro
Thomas is the best at narrating these videos...he keeps me interested in the videos.
As a urban explorer. I'll always love these videos of you guys exploring crazy abandoned places.
I recommend you to watch "Shiey" , you will not regret
This feels more like a movie than it does a UA-cam video, that just proves how good your guy’s content is!!
Your quality of filmaking and storytelling is better than most Netflix documentaries at this point. Breathtaking!
These abandoned places videos you guys do are my absolute favorites! Wish you'd do more of these videos with places within the United States of America. Places that possibly I could visit at some point. Keep up the great content!😁👏🏻
Proper Yes Theory adventure!! Thank you for taking us there with you!
Fvcking dvmb comment. Get out of the house and away from the internet, dude.
I think he's a little much tbh. I mean, there are so many things that are worse than this in the world. It's a god damn event-area at a hotel. I would not give a care in the world if all the event-areas of the hotels I've been to were abandoned, yeah
This video was incredible, and your videographer deserves a lot of praise for the shots in this video.
The last minutes of the video were just incredible. Those shots and the music...gave me chills and makes me want to go to this place so bad! Definitely will
You know its gonna be a good day when YesTheory drops a video 🙌

FACTS
The filmaking is just amazing, the quality of the video and the gorgeous landscapes is like watching a bbc documentary!
And it will only get better from here
This video has got one of the greatest cinematography ever created on UA-cam. Shoutout to Cory
Legit got goosebumps seeing them developed photos,,too good of a video..yes theory goated
Truly a liminal space! It's beautiful but provokes discomfort at the same time. Great job guys!
The developed pictures made my heart happy
Man I wish I could go to Japan.. I keep begging my parents to take me there for my senior trip and even told them that I’d put all of my money from working into it but they keep saying that we dont have the money for it. I’ve been dying to go there for more than four years and be able to experience the different culture and people and food and sights. I’ve literally never left America and it just feels like there’s nothing more to the more to the world sometimes. Thank you guys for your videos, they’ve kept me optimistic for so long.
Y’all will prob never read this but genuinely thank you so much
If you’re gonna be a senior, you can go there yourself right?
So glad i found your channel, finding out about places i never knew existed.
I don't know why, but the photos felt really emotional. Someone's family, daughter, grandmother, and the camera was left there, untouched. Really great video!
I love how Staffan shares his vulnerabilities like normal. It's a very healthy habit and humanises things so well. Staffan, you're the man.
these videos as of late have been becoming more representative of the core identity to this channel and i’m so happy to witness that
That feeling your describing in the beginning of your video is known as „kenopsia“
urban dictionary:
n. the eerie, forlorn atmosphere of a place that’s usually bustling with people but is now abandoned and quiet.
Loved your video!
These teachers melt my heart!!! They are so kind
Thanks, from a new sub in Canada!
dude I love those Rooms that has been taken over by nature, the green is really pop
never expected familiar thing like our everyday room + overgrown plants is this good to see
also good job editor, cinematographer and the color grader
thanks for sharing
24:50 till the end has some of the most beautiful visuals + music I've seen on UA-cam
Anyone else watch their wim hoff experience again and again. I loved both of those. Keep these coming.
Cheers
I saw a shadow moving @18:43 . I know I must not be the only one. The work you guys do is so incredible 🎉🎉
Omg i saw it too , but nobody is saying about it
The sleepover was so funny and wholesome at the same time lol
Chills! Literal Chills! The video, the powerful audio, and you guys describing nature taking over. This was an amazing video!
this is 1 of the unbelievable places i have ever seen.. going to japan in august & this place has been added to my list.. over and out
22:21 just won my heart... This should be a award winning documentary. Kudos guys very Well narrated.
Imagine a movie about a boy or girl waking up in one of those apartments years after everyone left.
And as we watch it, the boy or girl tries to get information about the past and why everybody left.
I'm pretty certain the last guy in the developed pictures before the Yes guys ones was another urban explorer that was there before them. Looks like the person took their picture and left it there. Thats crazy to think
Man the Pictures on the Camera was Nostalgic Feeling I hope that family is Doing Okay I wish you guys can find who belongs it to or try to contact them that was a Fire Content Loved It!
This is incredible, the video and the way you make it, feels like an entire movie and the chills... the beauty of nature and humans
This reminds me of the last of us game! Abandoned places are scary but also kinda cool seeing nature takes over and takes you back in time.
Guys What an amazing life you've invented for yourselves and others. I am truly blown away and wishing , for the first time in my life, wishing i was 3 decades younger so it could join you. I have had an amazing adventure filled life. totally unplanned and unaccompanied. That is my biggest regret. that i was alone during my most amazing adventures. Keep seeking discomfort, keep dreaming, keep adventuring. Most of all thank you for sharing this with us all, old and young. You guys rock
"The last of us" vibes are strong from the fern rooms and hotel especially.
I now understand where some of my favorite video game creators get their ideas and inspiration. 😊
From the scary part to the cutest cuddle 😍❤ I wish that scene was long.
You guys need to link up with Brent from Cerro Gordo! An exploration of the mines would be epic!
Loved this video guys. Love the content you guys pump out!
Ps - come and visit New Zealand sometime soon ♥️
