One question. Why is this comment section (as well as all others of this movie): 45% people loving the version and the actors 45% people hating literally everything from Gerard's voice to the fight 10% people throwing random facts or comparing the musical/movie to the book And I am just confused, still trying to enjoy stuff tho
1. ok I NEED to know how did Erik learn sword fighting XD 2. everyone keeps saying CHRISTINE SHOULD'VE GONE WITH THE PHANTOM. but I'm like okay, where? to his cave? and live as hermits that terrorize a building whenever they are feeling spicy? raise their children there, having swimming lessons in that dirty af water? like. okay, imagine Christine chooses the Phantom. what happens THEN? they sing, they go all the way, maybe Christine gets her very own Dramatic Wooshing Cape... and then what?
Lol. Fair point. Phantom didn't have a lot going for him at the time besides his voice and charisma. Financial stability and a non-basement type place to live was at the bottom of his list. 😂
plus having to put up with dead bodies all the time and wondering when the Phantom is going to get mad at her and strangle her--as opposed to marrying a nice wealthy guy who is a count and she gets to be a countess
Erik is a complete *genius;* he can fight sword (the novel doesn't say that, though), he's an architect, musician, 100% artist, and a magician. Besides that he's intense, lovable and gives his soul to EVERYTHING, including loving, protecting and raising Christine. The problem is that anybody gave him the chance of showing his genius because of his deformed face; he was abused by everyone, including his mother. Minus his "insane moment" in the ending, which was cured by Christine's kindness, he was OBVIOUSLY the best choice. And his cave isn't dirty, he was planning to buy a house for them as in the novel. Well, anyway 😂
Okay, I just noticed that Raoul smirked at Phantom. I really love this song so much. When I was a kid, I said " If you stab Phantom, I will jump through the telly and stab you". I also sad "Your lucky Roaul, your lucky I can't jump through the tv"
People who watch this movie and think Raoul is the hero are insane to me. It's called The Phantom of the Opera. It's not called Fairweather boyfriends who hang out with you once your old boyfriend helped you get famous.
I sang this in Choir earlier this year and I couldn't help but thinking of Raoul and Erik sword fighting. Because there's this senior in my choir that sounds exactly like Raoul and another one sounds like Erik so during practice, we couldn't help but laugh
It does set up precendence for Raouls physical capacity to go and fight and survive various traps which in the musical isn't as well established but it is in the book
You were a KID, so it makes sense. Thankfully you grew up, i guess? When i was a veeeeery young child, i also rooted for Raoul, i'm very ashamed to confess that. Today i'm free and i know that Erik is better.
He escaped scot free after a bunch of murders and psychotic stalking and terrorising an opera house, I'd say he got more than a semi-good ending all things considered.
Semi good ending: 2 weeks with Erik, 2 with Raoul. Like in Muslim families when a man has more than 1 wife, and shares his time equally, LOL. Why we, women can't do that??
Raoul ruins everything. Christine walk faster to your fathers grave before Raoul comes. I love how Raoul falls after jumping and the Phantom lands perfectly on the ground.
Does anybody notice how the color of their clothing represent good and evil like Luke vs Darth Vader ? Or perhaps freedom and open vs strict and closed ?
This version of wandering child will always be better than the 25th anniversary one. Adding Raoul in just made no sense and it didn’t sound good at all, it sounded so messed up, I couldn’t tell what was being sung, the only good bit was Ramin coming through at the end with that low note. In this you can actually hear what they are saying and it focuses on Erik and Christine
I can't hold this scene of the musical, i found it kinda nonsense because Leroux Erik would never pretend being her *father* (the angel, yes, but father? Nope). But, i understand what both Christine and Erik feel on this scene, and i hope some annoying brainless people can understand that Erik is not "perverse", evil or anything like this. Christine lost her father, she is sad because of it. She is alone. Erik loves her more than anything on his life, and no, it is not "obsession" or false love, use your brain a little and try to understand the message of the Final Lair and how much noble Erik always was. Erik pretended to be her angel of music because he was afraid of showing himself as a normal man, he was abused and shunned for years and he just... doesn't feel worthy anymore. Only at "The Final Lair" is that he understand how much human he was and let her go because he loved her more than anyone did. Anyway, he wanted to protect Christine. He HATED to see her sad, defenseless, lonely... he saw himself on her. Being her "angel" would protect her, but once he falls in love with her and shows himself as a mortal human (and the feared The Phantom of The Opera), Christine started to feel uncorfutable at his side. It is not her or his fault, she was only scared. Erik thought "so, not being her angel but a man scares her? So i'll be a pathernal figure". The musical is veeeeery poetic and romantic, so no, i do NOT believe he was literally pretending to be Christine's father, he tried to be some kind of pathernal figure to make her happier, and then he could marry her. He had a horrible life and his father didn't love him, it is not his fault that he doesn't know how to deal with emontions. If you blame him for this, you're a jerk. The same way Christine was scared and sad missing her daddy, Erik was abused all of his life and he couldn't adapt 100% to a normal life. Both did wrong things based on what they lived, if you blame Erik and defend 10000% Christine... hipocrisy, is that the name?
Right, and let's not forget that in a good long term relationship we're not only the romantic lovers of our spouses, but their best friends, even each-other's mother/father sometimes, giving comfort, solace, support each-other's career, etc.
For anyone who thinks Erik would not have lost this fight, I fully see where you're coming from but A. Erik probably hasn't fought against another person in awhile and B. He had Raoul on the ropes for pretty much the whole fight. Raoul literally just get lucky with being strong enough to disarm him.
Here’s the thing though…Erik would NEVER put himself into a position to lose to Raoul, NEVER, he is way too smart for that. Erik uses his brain to gain the advantage not his muscles, hence him fooling everyone into thinking he’s an actual Ghost…he is a master magician, and a genius. And second a sword fight is frankly too ‘normal’ for him, this Man is the very definition of THEATRICAL, and a physical fight is how normal guys deal with their differences, Erik is not a normal guy, he wouldn’t even bother with that crap. Erik would either have Raoul at the end of his noose in the blink of an eye like in the final lair, of he’d make a big show of trying to intimidate him with something dramatic, like the fireballs in the Stage Show. I feel Schumacher wanted the sword fight more for Raoul’s sake, to make him into more of a Romantic Hero, but it completely undermined Eriks character in my opinion.
Christine decides that taking this guy to the police wouldn't be nice so she lets him go. Pretty much a few scenes later he kills like fifty people by dropping the chandelier. Those deaths are all on Christine.
+Emii64 True, but he shouldn't have been chosen for the role if he had never had singing lessons. POTO is a musical that can't afford mediocrity. Gerard was chosen for sex appeal, not singing talent. Sure, he can carry a tune, but you have to be able to do more than that if you're playing the title role of this musical.
Because - as much as I love this movie - it was poorly done on many levels. See Lindsey Ellis' video on the Schumacher version. A lot of it was ALW's meddling tbh. I think the cast did their best with what they were given. As far as the disfigurement, the mask he wore for Don Juan just physically wouldn't work. It just doesn't cover it all. And when she takes it off, you can see just before that there's... something there underneath, and a wig/hairpiece comes off with it, but still. In the 2011 stage version (might still be on Netflix?) he's wearing a completely hooded cowl for Don Juan and it just works much better physically speaking. I mean, obviously the Phantom is not Piangi in this version, but with the hooded cloak, there's a lot more anonymity.

“Is that the best you can do? Come on, monsieur, don’t stop, don’t stop” the way this sounds out of context
While I think a part of the reason she tells Raoul no is because Erik still has some hold on her but I also personally think it’s she doesn’t want a murder in front of her father’s grave
It's because she cares for Erik and doesn't want to see her dumb and worthless boyfriend kill the man who took care of her for years.
Wandering child expresses the problems facing orphans and homeless sung by Anne Hathaway is a wonderful harmonious melodic performance
Christine is loving these guys fighting over her.
Love the song
Christine just chillin in the back 2:58
I love sword fighting! One of my favorite scenes in the whole movie. Actually fave scene in any movie I've ever seen.
Megstar360 oh my sweet dear you if you love sword fighting than I implore you to watch the one in The Princess Bride. Three times as long and 10000 times better😃😃
Brooke DeLong which fight in the princess bride? Both are wonderful...
Christine just watching her two boyfriends fight each other like 👁️👄👁️
Not sure about the “he’s not your father” line. It’s as if Raoul is in denial that the phantom is a romantic rival.
The Phantom literally pretends to be her father tho.
Christine thinks the Angel of Music is her father. She literally sings "Angel of Music, friend of Phantom" as well.
@@zaril21 doesn't she sing "friend OR Phantom"?
Basically she thinks that the phantom was a entity sent by her father but he's just a creepy stalker
One question. Why is this comment section (as well as all others of this movie):
45% people loving the version and the actors
45% people hating literally everything from Gerard's voice to the fight
10% people throwing random facts or comparing the musical/movie to the book
And I am just confused, still trying to enjoy stuff tho
when ever there is a sub in my choir class my class always watches this
Lucky.
1. ok I NEED to know how did Erik learn sword fighting XD
2. everyone keeps saying CHRISTINE SHOULD'VE GONE WITH THE PHANTOM. but I'm like okay, where? to his cave? and live as hermits that terrorize a building whenever they are feeling spicy? raise their children there, having swimming lessons in that dirty af water? like. okay, imagine Christine chooses the Phantom. what happens THEN? they sing, they go all the way, maybe Christine gets her very own Dramatic Wooshing Cape... and then what?
Lol. Fair point. Phantom didn't have a lot going for him at the time besides his voice and charisma. Financial stability and a non-basement type place to live was at the bottom of his list. 😂
this is so funny
Uhhh....
(Points to the novel)
plus having to put up with dead bodies all the time and wondering when the Phantom is going to get mad at her and strangle her--as opposed to marrying a nice wealthy guy who is a count and she gets to be a countess
That dress though..
Okay, I just noticed that Raoul smirked at Phantom. I really love this song so much. When I was a kid, I said " If you stab Phantom, I will jump through the telly and stab you". I also sad "Your lucky Roaul, your lucky I can't jump through the tv"
i have been watching the beginning of the song to 1:38 like 1000000000000000000000 times 😍😍😍😍
This is one of my favourite songs of this mysical
This is like a battle in Star Wars
It's over Fantom
I have the high ground!
These comments are gold.😂
i mean my boi looking good in that cape though very cool
"No Raoul , no-not like this..."
"Then like that? "
Totally rooting for Erik!
My senior stage show boys sounds exactly raoul and one sounds like erik too
I really want gerard butler to sing me to sleep. His singing is so comforting
All of this is not enough to even dislodge Erik's wig but one little tug from Christine at the end and it comes right off???
Angle of music u denied me turning from true beauty
😭👌🏻
god if only capes were back in style
The phantom is my idol.
I'd go in...
Ramin had a magnificent voice but Ramin didn't put emotion, and butler did so there like the opposite kinda
It does set up precendence for Raouls physical capacity to go and fight and survive various traps which in the musical isn't as well established but it is in the book
I remember wanting Raoul to win when I was a kid, because the Phantom scared the shit out of me so I wanted him to lose.
You were a KID, so it makes sense. Thankfully you grew up, i guess? When i was a veeeeery young child, i also rooted for Raoul, i'm very ashamed to confess that. Today i'm free and i know that Erik is better.
Lol, I rooted for Erik as a kid too
When he spoke at the end of the scene, his mouth is at the side, that's when I know that the Phantom is really Gerard Butler 😂😂💖
Ahh,;the first ever ghost Patrick Wilson needs to face before he got inspired to catch tougher ghosts(conjuring reference)😂
Dying in a graveyard would suck
Erik from the book would've never lost this fight
Wandering child so lost so helpless yearning for my guidance
Honestly love both Raoul and Phantom, I’m just mad the movie doesn’t give Erik a (at least) semi good ending.
He escaped scot free after a bunch of murders and psychotic stalking and terrorising an opera house, I'd say he got more than a semi-good ending all things considered.
@@Blisterdude123 LMAO FAIR
Semi good ending: 2 weeks with Erik, 2 with Raoul.
Like in Muslim families when a man has more than 1 wife, and shares his time equally, LOL.
Why we, women can't do that??
Damn I really love this😭
Raoul ruins everything. Christine walk faster to your fathers grave before Raoul comes. I love how Raoul falls after jumping and the Phantom lands perfectly on the ground.
I absolutely love how every one ships Erik and christine more than raul 😂
and Gerard Butler got his revenge for losing by becoming Leonidas. though he lost again haha
The Phantom doesn’t fight likeThe Gladiator.
I would've chosen Phantom over Raoul on any given day
Nice adding a sword fight in this film it makes it more interesting
I can't be the only one that hears "Enter Lord Vader" from Revenge of the Sith at around 1:52, right?
Does anybody notice how the color of their clothing represent good and evil like Luke vs Darth Vader ? Or perhaps freedom and open vs strict and closed ?
1:30 always give me chills.
This comment is quite underrated, my favorite so far!
Right, and let's not forget that in a good long term relationship we're not only the romantic lovers of our spouses, but their best friends, even each-other's mother/father sometimes, giving comfort, solace, support each-other's career, etc.
Exactly lmao
EBS에서 하길래 봤는데... 노래에 중독되어 버렸다...
I love the way that Christine save phantom life
That show how much she loves him
2:55 Stunt double.
+Suvir Sinha What about at 1:47?
For who
Who is he?
I don’t know why it bothers me so much that Raoul got onto the horse before Christine did..
How about I just take Raoul and Christine can go with the phantom.
For anyone who thinks Erik would not have lost this fight, I fully see where you're coming from but A. Erik probably hasn't fought against another person in awhile and B. He had Raoul on the ropes for pretty much the whole fight. Raoul literally just get lucky with being strong enough to disarm him.
And let's not forget that damned cape in the way...
Good thing Raoul was there. Maybe he was the one who her father sent instead of the Phantom.
He jumped down like Batman
Gosto muito desse filme. .pena que não consegui assistir no UA-cam 😊o fantasma da ópera
Christine decides that taking this guy to the police wouldn't be nice so she lets him go. Pretty much a few scenes later he kills like fifty people by dropping the chandelier. Those deaths are all on Christine.
Who would you guys choose? Raoul or Erik?
Raoul 'cause he can actually sing, lol
But if Ramin Karmiloo were the Phantom, I'd choose him
+Sarae B he does pretty damn good for someone who's never had singing lessons...?
+Emii64 True, but he shouldn't have been chosen for the role if he had never had singing lessons. POTO is a musical that can't afford mediocrity. Gerard was chosen for sex appeal, not singing talent. Sure, he can carry a tune, but you have to be able to do more than that if you're playing the title role of this musical.
+SdAmy Minsun Erik
Gee wasn’t a terrible Phantom I just have a huge problem with the deformity
Doesn't sound the same without Raoul's part...
Sara B.
Yeah, good point.
Yes, it's much better without Raoul's part
Okay, she had a very nervous life, but I wish I was Christine at this scene. THESE men are fighting for her.
*I felt like the sword fight between Raoul and Phantom was kind of pathetic and pointless to the plot because in the theater version Raoul had a gun*
It was pathetic and completely out of character for the Phantom.
gerard butler is a snack
True dat
@@dearone5000 lol
Hmmm... i'm hungry 🌚🌚
Ps: i love Gerry Butler, he's the best Erik for me ❤
Why the hell does his face look so different once the mask is taken off? His hair even changes color!
No, this black hair is a wig.
