Christine was Erik's, RAOUL stole her. And she's a stupid child who likes more "money and a pretty face" (Raoul) than a "tErRibLe MuRdErEr WiTh a DeFoRmeD fAcE"
This is my favorite scene! It shows how much power he has over Christine. Every time she hears his voice she goes into a trance and the world around her becomes oblivious to her.
According to the story they actually grew up together. She was brought there when her father died, and Erik was already there hiding in the shadows. He would speak to her at night and she thought he was her angel. He must have been kind to her because she was alone like him. They had a lot in common.
Part 3. Christine wakes up and sees the phantom and she walks towards him and says to him? Where am I? Why am I here? Where is Raul? The phantom reply’s back to Christine. Raul is in a different place and is trapped with the rest of your friends and family. Now u have no one to save u now Christine. Let’s have some fun the phantom grabs Christine’s hand and then he picks her up from her bed and he says to her? Today’s phantom of the opera challenge is to see u Christine Dee I’m gonna put u in a sleeper hold. Now I’m going play our song the point of no return try and follow me and I’ll teach u but if u don’t do it right I’ll get mad and I’ll start to grab your throat now we don’t won’t that right Christine? Right? If anyone wants to roleplay this with me they can

While watching this scene I commented on the fact that her selves kept coming off and my sister said "I'm not surprised she's having trouble keeping her clothes on" and I couldn't laughing...... we had to pause the movie.
I don't know why people keep saying he's an awful singer, the Phantom is supposed to be untrained. It's not like there are singing coaches on hand in the catacombs beneath a 19th century french opera house.
I agree! But... it doesn't make sense how he trained Christine, yet his own voice is not as 'good' as hers. I understand that Gerard Butler isn't trained, but it doesn't really add up with the story.
+Andrea Gutierrez I know some people who have tremendous pitch and hearing, yet just can't vocalize it. A lot of coaches know the "game" extremely well, but that doesn't mean they were stellar players during their career.
+Grainne Nunan According to the book, his voice is suppose to put "the angels of the heavens to shame." He vigorously trained himself and surpassed any composer and opera singer in Paris. I got to hand it to Gerald for being a great Phantom, but from my experiences in the opera, saying his voice is "untrained" is slightly an understatement. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the movie though. (However, I think Emmy makes an impeccable Christine out of all I've seen and heard)
Gerard Butler is HANDSOME that he still looks handsome with a Phantom's face. He is such a great actor and it brings tears to my yes when he sings 'All I Ask of You' reprise. It's such a sad song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've watched the movie like 10 times.
SavyGirl YES OMG Music Of the Night reprise is so emotional!!!!!!!!!!! The best song that really gets me is Phantom of the Opera and The Point of No Return Reprise!!
oh my god. that smirk at 1:13 killed me. Everyone is complaining about Gerard's voice, but I actually liked his the most. It sounded more passionate to me. Idk the movie version is my favorite. Michael Crawford was good too but I really liked this one. I think this song and All I ask of you are my favorite. Ahhhh i know the phantom is supposed to be terrifying and a murderer, but hes really cute. idk hes so dramatic its adorable
Emmarellda1 I KnOW RIGHT? That verse at 1:13 has to be my favorite Phantom verse of the entire song. It set the pace perfectly on the underlying desire between them. Killed me quick, and I'm not even mad about it. :'D
I actually like Gerard’s Phantom. I feel like there was this alluring sense to him (voice and left-side-of-the-face looks) that attracted Christine in the first place. The makeup crew could’ve done a bit more to make the disfigurement look worse, because I think that’s what’s really missing from this Phantom. Talk about the lighting all you want, but the right side of his face could’ve gone through more distortion than it did in the movie. As for the voice, Gerard might not have an opera voice or an extraordinary singing voice in general like the Phantom usually has, but there’s something about his voice that really catches my attention and pulls me in, and I think that’s what pulls Christine in as well. Gerard did a great job as the Phantom. Pulling in Christine with an alluring voice and mysterious looks only for her to find disfigurement and distortion on the masked side of his face and in his soul. As for Christine, Emmy also did a wonderful job. The innocence and sweetness in her voice was what really did it for me. And the fact that she could sing opera at 16-17 (which is how old the character is) is wonderful
I agree. Maybe it's just that Gerard is *that* attractive lol. But for me, the side of his face that was *supposed* to be hideous, just wasn't. It was really easy to accept and think "what's all the fuss about". The makeup people definitely could have made it look worse.
I seriously think this scene is the most passionate. Despite the fact that the original version includes even more (that's right, because Emmy is only 17 y. o. here), even looks and touches are enough here. There is fear and seduction at the same time. Look with what desire he looks at her, watches her every move, probably idolizing Christine in his soul. He touches her very gently, at this time as "playing" with her. She understands who is with her, but continues to sing. And together they create something incredible. Although Gerard is not a professional singer, I consider him one of the best (with Ramin) in the role of the Phantom. Maybe he didn't sing so well, but his acting is clearly the best. He showed the passion, emotions, pain of this character best of all. And Emmy sang like a real Angel of Music❤
why are people here so negative... like if you think this cast sucks then I want you to try getting out there and sing like they do and act like they do. stop being so fricken negative and just think how beautiful the music is. so what the movie isn't exactly like how it is in the real thing. but alot of movies are different and making something alittle bit different isn't so bad , it could be very interesting. So if you want to be negative go somewhere else.
+sydney crowley Exactly... I personally liked the cast choices. Who else were they gonna pick for the roles who could sing well and be able to do it for an actual movie because filming something from a live performance (Royal Albert Hall) and filming a movie are TOTALLY different things. I was genuinely surprised at Gerard's voice too, it's very good for someone who sang in a rock band in his youth and never having classical training...

I used to harp on Gerard not being as good of a singer as some of the others who have played the Phantom, but looking back he actually did a pretty good job for someone who's not a professional singer.

Is no one going to point out that "Piangi" suddenly lost a lot of weight in a couple of seconds, is wearing the wrong costume and totally has a different head? Like, even if Raoul and the audience doesn't know the play, surely a stage manager or a stage hand would see someone went off-script. No? Okay then...
In the song “Notes,” one of the requirements the Phantom sets for them to avoid a disaster was that Piangi has to lose a lot of weight or he will die. This was so the Phantom could kill and replace him undetected. The movie’s costumes are what make it entirely obvious.
THE BEST CASTING EVER!!!!WELL!! DONE MR GERALD BUTLER.SUPERB INDEED!!PASSION AT ITS BEST!!SEEN THE MOVIE AND NOW HAVE THE D.V.D. When I first saw this movie, the people around me are like "oh, she's chosen the Phantom over Raoul". I feel like I was the only one who added "delusional" to the Phantom's characterization. The Phantom _wrote those words._ Christine isn't confessing her love to him with those words--those are her lines. He cornered her into saying that. Now, Christine's acting is another matter. Either she fully loves him, or she's conning him as per the trap.
It’s both. She realizes she actually likes him here but in all honesty you can love somebody and still make the conscious choice not to go with them. She actually looked guilty when she ripped the mask off like she didn’t want to but chose to do the right thing. She expected to go in there and trick him but actually got carried away

Haters always gonna hate ! He is so amazing! his voice is so great and oh my God I can just stop listen to him! Keep hoping that Gerard and Emmy will do Phantom 2. Can you imagine???? That would be a Boom! Haha
This song, movie or musical, is probably my favorite. There's just so much passion involved. Gerard does a fantastic job here in this song. I might be in the minority who think Gerard did a fairly decent job in this movie.
Anyone saying Gerard Butler can't sing may not have hear Oliver Reed singing in the movie 'Tommy'. Gerard sounds like Andrea Bocelli compared to Oliver. Plus I like Gerry's voice.
Both Gerard Butler and Emmy Rossum - such amazing, versatile talents AND beautiful faces. God blessed those two many times over - Gerard is also a lawyer.
*Everybody: are complaining about the voice of the Phantom.* *Me:* I swear to God, if he asks me to jump off a bridge singing with this voice, I do it without hesitation.
If the Phantom had been what one might call a 'trained singer' to the point of being an obvious equity-card stage performer, it would not have convinced me nearly as well as Gerard Butler does here. Personally, I like seeing and hearing so-called 'non singers' carrying off a singing performance with confident assurance like this.
@@eunbitpark5251 Thank you for your agreement. One only has to compare it with singers such as those appearing onstage in the Claude Rains film to appreciate the difference. In those days the style, of course, was very different from now. But all the same, they did seem rather over-the-top with the operetta approach. Nonetheless, the Rains version is still worth a look as part of the cinematic history of the tale. Incidentally, I have recently written my own stage play version of the story which can be found on a special Facebook page and downloaded for reading and theatre production.
From what I know of the community guidelines. THAT ALL COMMENTS MUST BE RESPECTFUL. AND NOT TO TARNISH GERARD BUTLER'S REPUTATION. HE IS ONE OF THE MANY GREAT ACTORS IN THIS WORLD! IN THERE SHOULD BE NO PHANTOM OF THE OPERA HATERS. HERE AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think my only problem with this version of the phantom is that he’s too pretty. His face that makes people “draw back in fear” looks more akin to a sunburn than the “death’s head” that was portrayed in the book
@@Howlingburd19 I genuinely laughed at the unmasking the first time I saw it because he just looked so normal that it caught me off guard. I was expecting some Harvey Dent/Two face style thing
I love this movie, but I can’t get over how the mask doesn’t cover his disfigurement. Not that it matters in this scene, since the disfigurement is not there...
I know that they are just acting so it doesn't matter, I'm just saying what I think. Also, if you think about it, Erik (the phantom) was in a circus being called a devil child when Madam Pomfre (not sure how to spell it) was around 13. He was like 10 (i'm guessing). So the madam is around 40 or 45 when Christine takes place of Prima Dona (i think that is the other singer's name) making Erik around 35 or so when Christine is around 16 (that was how old her character was). It's not important how old the actors are, but the characters. It adds another creepy and strange element to the movie that Erik is almost old enough to be her father. Now I have not read the book, but this is based on what I observed in the movie.
+Megan Maclean élève she turned 17 soon after starting filming, was only 16 when they did the auditions and screen tests but by the time the movie came out she was already 18 though. I still think bloody lucky girl though.....

I read some of the comments below and must say, that Butler and Wilson did great in the movie. For people who want operatic singers, they should look to the play. I never saw the play, but love, love this movie. I never heard anyone sing like Emmy Rossum. She will blow you away!

What raging fire shall flood the soul?
What rich desire unlocks its door?
What sweet seduction lies before us
Past the point of no return
The final threshold
What warm unspoken secrets will we learn?
Beyond the point of no return
You have brought me
To that moment when words run dry
To that moment when speech disappears into silence
Silence
I have come here
Hardly knowing the reason why
In my mind I’ve already imagined our bodies entwining,
defenceless and silent
Now I am here with you, no second thoughts
I’ve decided, decided
By far my favorite song in phantom
By far the best song in this play/movie!!!👻🖤🎹
1:13 - 1:19 always catches me in a trance. Uuggghhh 😍😍😍😍😍😍
This is the most important song and scene this is the moment we realize it’s not one sided . I love how they portrayed it .
My number one movie the ability of singing opera shows how much of brilliant actor Gerard Butler is .
Best songs and soundtracks
Is no one going to point out that "Piangi" suddenly lost a lot of weight in a couple of seconds, is wearing the wrong costume and totally has a different head?
Like, even if Raoul and the audience doesn't know the play, surely a stage manager or a stage hand would see someone went off-script. No? Okay then...
Far as I know, a good theathre and opera have to get twice of characters in case someone get's hurt (at least, in my old company we did it)
In the song “Notes,” one of the requirements the Phantom sets for them to avoid a disaster was that Piangi has to lose a lot of weight or he will die. This was so the Phantom could kill and replace him undetected. The movie’s costumes are what make it entirely obvious.
@@seranathenecromancer3470 Okay but we do see that Piangi _didn’t_ lose any weight.
Also a different voice.
THE BEST CASTING EVER!!!!WELL!! DONE MR GERALD BUTLER.SUPERB INDEED!!PASSION AT ITS BEST!!SEEN THE MOVIE AND NOW HAVE THE D.V.D. NOW!!!THANK GOODNESS "THEY" DID NOT TAKE THEIR CLOTHES OFF IN HIS LAIR!!!!IT WOULD HAVE RUINED IT COMPLETELY!!!!!!!!GREAT MOVIE AND VERY ROMANTIC TO OBSESSION!!!!!THANKS FOR THE POSTING.FROM(U.K.).
She expected to go in there and trick him but actually got carried away
wow the best movie I've ever seen, 2020 anyone?
i remember my chorus teacher showing us this movie. it was one of the best classes i ever had. it sad my chorus teacher quit.
2023 still i love song.
wow...Christine is so beautiful.
Thank you 😊
The Progression of the Raoul:
0:31 What?
1:58 How dare he
2:29 Crap. He saw me.
2:41 Let’s get him
3:00 Faking confidence

Haters always gonna hate ! He is so amazing! his voice is so great and oh my God I can just stop listen to him! Keep hoping that Gerard and Emmy will do Phantom 2. Can you imagine???? That would be a Boom! Haha
1:37-1:57 her expression is like desired while Raoul's like "What the hell is he doing here?! trying to steal my girl"
Amazing... what a wonderful peice. I was really blown away. The music and the Violins omg just amazing.
Now Rauhl, no need to be jealous, it's just a role in a play
Raoul*
+Terra Crafter He just realized he will never be able to turn her on like that.
tru that tru that
McKenna West so true
😅
0:21 OMG
Rachel Aviona I KNOW
I love this movie so much
This song, movie or musical, is probably my favorite. There's just so much passion involved. Gerard does a fantastic job here in this song. I might be in the minority who think Gerard did a fairly decent job in this movie.
Phantom looks up and says " they think that they can outsmart me , they're wrong , i have a backup plan and i am taking Christine with me "
0:46 that baby smirk ahhhhh im dying
Anyone saying Gerard Butler can't sing may not have hear Oliver Reed singing in the movie 'Tommy'. Gerard sounds like Andrea Bocelli compared to Oliver.
Plus I like Gerry's voice.
Raoul's face kills me😂😂😂
Both Gerard Butler and Emmy Rossum - such amazing, versatile talents AND beautiful faces. God blessed those two many times over - Gerard is also a lawyer.
I love phantom's action when he sais "silence".
ALW said for the movie he wanted the Phantom to have a “rock n roll” type quality to his voice/singing and I think Gerard was perfect.
*Everybody: are complaining about the voice of the Phantom.*
*Me:* I swear to God, if he asks me to jump off a bridge singing with this voice, I do it without hesitation.
I share your thoughts. I don't think he would be as seductive and raw if he were a professional singer.
It’s punk phantom and I’m here for it!!
It’s kind of funny watching Raul’s reaction to the phantom touching Christine 🤣 I love when he gets jealous and bothered
Imma find the 15 people who disliked this video
i will help you
ryan harris I will help too
I think their ears are full of wax, This is some good shit!
ryan harris and kill them
Make that 36 people who should *keep their hand at the level of their eyes.* ;)
When Gerard started sing past the point of no return and the rest from there at 1:10, my stomach started aching (not in the bad way)
I can feel my eyes dilating and I get chills exactly at that part. Sometimes i forget to breath. Gerard is SOOO good!
He mentioned in an interview that past the point of no return was his favorite song.
A voz do Fantasma ( erik ) e extremamente linda e um encanto !
I love how he rolled his words. I would've said "F you Raul I'm his!"
I can't say how smexy this scene is 😍😍😍😍
I fell in love with the phantom he is great love his voice i would of stayed with him and dump the other guy
ok, why does the phantom remind me of Antonio Banderas as Zorro here?😂🙈
This was beautiful and amazing until Christine ripped the mask off....
Just Monika. O my gosh why :(
I cannot get over Christine's face at this part OMFG 0:28
God I love this song!
I sang this song for my audition for How To succeed in business without really trying in middle school years ago
I love this movi
Conspiracy Theory: The cape is a completely different actor.
While I don’t think he’s the best Phantom portrayal, I definitely think this is the best version of the song
I think my only problem with this version of the phantom is that he’s too pretty. His face that makes people “draw back in fear” looks more akin to a sunburn than the “death’s head” that was portrayed in the book
@@operaghostkay I 100% agree, I said the same thing from the beginning
@@Howlingburd19 I genuinely laughed at the unmasking the first time I saw it because he just looked so normal that it caught me off guard. I was expecting some Harvey Dent/Two face style thing
I love this movie, but I can’t get over how the mask doesn’t cover his disfigurement. Not that it matters in this scene, since the disfigurement is not there...
I love how everyone is like "HOT PASSIONATE SEDUCTIVE" and im like "while acting HE IS 35 AND SHE IS 16.... let that sink in"
+Mary Jenkins Anderson Any proof the movie is canon on that point, or are you just being a regular internet user claiming random things?^^
Yeah well they had a really large age gap and they are professionals so it wasn't bad in fact they did amazing
makes it even better
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
I have a crush on Phantom he is every Scorpio dream man 😍🥵
Phantom:
You have come here
In pursuit of your deepest urge
In pursuit of that wish which till now
Has been silent
Silent
I have brought you
That our passions may fuse and merge
In your mind you’ve already succumbed to me
Dropped all defences, completely succumbed to me
Now you are here with me, no second thoughts
You’ve decided, decided
Past the point of no return
No backward glances
Our games of make-believe are at an end
Past all thought of if or when
No use resisting
Abandon thought and let the dream descend
What raging fire shall flood the soul?
What rich desire unlocks its door?
What sweet seduction lies before us?
Past the point of no return
The final threshold
What warm, unspoken secrets will we learn?
Beyond the point of no return

The way he moves his cape wow and the way he sings is so seductive and hypnotizing. 🫠❤️
I read some of the comments below and must say, that Butler and Wilson did great in the movie. For people who want operatic singers, they should look to the play. I never saw the play, but love, love this movie. I never heard anyone sing like Emmy Rossum. She will blow you away!
he's perfect for the part
This man has no business being this fine😂
All I wanna know is how nobody knew this man was not Piangi. No accent? Taller and Skinnier? This man ain't Piangi
I get second hand serenaded every time I watch/listen to this scene…
Dang. She's 16??? Holy moly. If it had been me, after the filming was over I would have been like "c'mere Gerard I wanna do _this_ scene again, plz..."
LOL her face at 2:00 tho XD
Gerard, the SEXIEST Phantom ever❣️
Everyone talking about how sexy Gerard is here in this scene I’m just sitting thinking his mask isn’t fully covering his disfigurement
Emmy rossum your one lucky gal,but damn she havin a hard time keepin her shoulder sleeves on ;)
This movie is one of the best movie in my childhood, so I bought the world tour ticket and few weeks ago, finally watched the original musical version.
What I felt is... every songs in the musical are better than the one in the movie, except this song, -the point of no return.-
He is my favorite Phantom because of his raw sexuality. Nothing wrong with his voice, either!
I loved that movie! Gerard was so hot!
Christine in this scene always made me laugh, she’s like “Jesus Christ, not this guy, again” lol
when does she realize its phantom? seems to know the whole time...love this movie damn
