"Guys? Do you think we might wanna go easy on the masquerades while the masked psychotic is still living in the basement? I mean, every time there's an event he sort of walks right in and out again." "We haven't seen him in a while, man, lighten up!"
Is it me, or do I just like the fact that Erik was dressed as Red Death, and Raoul was dressed as a prince.... ...A prince is who Red Death kills in Poe's story.
You notice something when christine and the phantom are staring at eachother for a long time. when the camera flashes to madame giry you see everyone else all panicked. but madame giry knows that there is something more between the two.
I've always loved how the conductor was up there keeping everyone on time. It's like they all got together and said "Hey, let's have this masquerade but we're an opera company so it's gotta be flashy! Rehearsals are 7-9 M-F, people! We gotta open with a choreographed number performed just for us!"
I think its because he's the only one that truly believes shes a good performer. Raoul never mentioned her singing career much did he? All the Phantom talks about is how wonderful she is
Always one of my favorite scenes on the stage and in the movie. Gerard Butler does a great job with this scene. Always wanted to be Christine because he just looks at her with pure adore! Love it!
What's terrible is that she also loves Raoul (as shown by the ENGAGEMENT RING AROUND HER NECK) but when one is out of the room she chooses the other, when the other is out of the room she chooses the one. It's very sad because Erik looks down and she's practically throwing the engagement and herself at him at the same time.
After multiple viewings of this film, I notice subtleties in faces. I love the way Madame Giry watches the Phantom, and the heartbreak on her face as he draws close to Christine--no secret she's in love (as we learn in her later monologue). It also makes her sung line "And what a masquerade!" which comes earlier, resonate more.
And because she knows the phantom is basically harmless but he's so in love with the girl. Madame Giry was the one who saved him from his terrible childhood
I love the way Christine and Raoul are watching everyone like, "LOL! They look so dorky spontaneously breaking out into song and dancing! Good thing WE don't do that!"
The Phantom is making an Edgar Allen Poe's "Masque of the red death" style point, and that crowd knows it! listen to them gasp in shock, horror and even disgust!
The Phantom just made an Edgar Allen Poe's "Masque of the red death" style point, and that crowd knows it! listen to them gasp in shock, horror and even disgust! you'd have to have read Masque of the red death By Edgar Allen Poe to know what I mean! I read it, I know!
EVERY time one of them starts to soften the other (Erik and Christine), one of them does something completely STUPID (like in this scene, Erik ripping off Christine's necklace and saying "You belong to me!"). Veeeery frustrating...!!
Yeah, until he ruined the moment by ripping off her ring/necklace and saying she belonged to him. If he hadn't been such a douche right then, the story might just have ended differently.
Really Raoul? Either you have your weapon to begin with or you don't abandon the chick who has TOLD YOU the Phantom's after her. Hell, even Piangi stepped in front of Carlotta when Erik started in on her. Raoul? Upstairs, try again when it's convenient.
no she loves the phantom secretly its her pride that betrays her.... of course thats the way that Emmy Rossum presents it, and that is the right way to present the character! And because she is a good actor you can see the love that is hidden behind fear and unknowing and what her young heart doesnt understand is that that is what love builds on and the love that overcomes that fear is always the strongest Check out love never dies the sequel and then see if you can still say she doesnt love him
At first I wasn't sure how I felt about the movie version, (this is my first time ever seeing anything of it) However, after watching this, I am pleased :)
Hi...I am wearing this costume to the Phantom Redux 9 in LA in Nov this year. It's a masquerade at midnight to 3am. So looking forwards to it. I live in Australia...Yes, I love Gerry Butler and Emmy's version of Phantom, but will also be true to ALWebber and go to Broadway for the stage show too!
No, she's in love with Raoul. Every time that the Phantom enters the same room as Christine is in, she's pretty much put in a trance. Or, as a lot of people mention, it's his mysterious side, or the fact he needs love.
I know right! It was perfect and Christine was starting to like him a little then he had to do something stupid! He should have just shut up right after saying Your teacher and she might have given him a chance.
No he's not. The reason he was leaving was so that he could get his sword to be all badass and save his lady love from the phantom. I mean no offense but I don't see why so many people bash on Raoul so often. He seems like a pretty cool guy to me.
Well, they did, just not in the same scene. The lines he spoke here are in the last note he sends them. In the stage version, he says, "I advise you to comply, my instructions should be clear, Remember there are worse things than a shattered chandelier," then sends a note saying the things about Carlotta and Piangi.

I Always wished I could go to a party like this.
I love how Raoul just runs off at 1:45, like, "Um, okay, Red Death, I'm just gonna go, you good Christine, you good? Okay good, later." XD
i love how he sings softly, "fondest greeting to you all" while touching his sword
You notice something when christine and the phantom are staring at eachother for a long time. when the camera flashes to madame giry you see everyone else all panicked. but madame giry knows that there is something more between the two.
I LOVE when the Phantom starts singing, the throb from the drums turns into the low and deep hum from the strings... pure genius.
when he says "why so silent?" I just keep thinking of the joker saying "why so serious?" :)
I've always loved how the conductor was up there keeping everyone on time. It's like they all got together and said "Hey, let's have this masquerade but we're an opera company so it's gotta be flashy! Rehearsals are 7-9 M-F, people! We gotta open with a choreographed number performed just for us!"
If you look closely you'll see that he's buckling on a SWORD BELT. He wanted to fight the Phantom, he wasn't running away or going to the bathroom.
I think its because he's the only one that truly believes shes a good performer. Raoul never mentioned her singing career much did he? All the Phantom talks about is how wonderful she is
I love it how the phantom gets cocky with the sword in his hand! Rep! XD
sometimes we all need dramatic music to indicate our footsteps
I remember when I went to a masquerade, unfortunately we didn't have a man dressed as the red death crash the party.
"You belong to me" give me shivers every time (not to mention the really cool exit)
Always one of my favorite scenes on the stage and in the movie. Gerard Butler does a great job with this scene. Always wanted to be Christine because he just looks at her with pure adore! Love it!
lol, Raol is like "youve got this right?" and then takes off. i know it wasnt really like that but you can imagin lol
The Phantom should have said THIS IS OPERA!!!! and then kicked Raul into the hall of mirrors.

Hmm, I'd be in the middle of the crowd saying, "God! the phantoms sexy!"
And because she knows the phantom is basically harmless but he's so in love with the girl. Madame Giry was the one who saved him from his terrible childhood
Aww, when he looks at Christine, all he's evil intentions vanish in the air
funny how everytime he takes a step (phantom) it makes a sound
Dramatic sound effect when descending down the stairs. Need that !
I had never noticed until today that this was inspired by "The Masque of the Red Death" by Poe. Now I can appreciate both even more.
Gerard is one of the best actors of all time
There are some awesome camera angles in this scene. The music is amazing as well.
Imagine the sexual tension in this room when Christine started walking towards the Phantom
God I love him. The poor guy just has serious communication issues, it could work!! Love that entrance!!
When i first saw this i honestly thought Raoul was leaving to hide or run away or something...especially with that "good luck" tap he gave her.
Yes, even though practically everyone in Paris is there, they won't touch the Phantom out of sheer terror. That's his secret weapon.
Gerard is a good phantom
I love how the music pauses for a moment then switches to the Phantom's Song.
We goes to get his rapier to duel. Such is the culture, rather brave considering the Phantoms rep.
Raoul is sweet and all but I'm cheering for the Phantom!
I gotta say, that skull mask is pretty cool.
1:42 Raoul's all like, "I'll be back, I gotta go water my plants."
2:44 Christine doesn't seem scared of him at all; she looks pretty... Loving.
She was going to go for it- WHY DID YOU HAVE TO SAY THAT AT THE END!?
Ok, who the HELL clicked the dislike button?! This is one of my favorite songs from the movie! We gon drop a chanderlear on this fool.
The Phantom just made an Edgar Allen Poe's "Masque of the red death" style point, and that crowd knows it! listen to them gasp in shock, horror and even disgust! you'd have to have read Masque of the red death By Edgar Allen Poe to know what I mean! I read it, I know!
I love how Raoul wears his jacket off one shoulder. I never knew that was possible.
I LOVE THIS MUSICAL!!!!
Had you missed me good monsieurs, I have written you an opera!
Here I bring the finished score, THE KING IN YELLOW!!!
Everyone goes insane.
I swear the next time I crash a party, this is how it's going to go down
EVERY time one of them starts to soften the other (Erik and Christine), one of them does something completely STUPID (like in this scene, Erik ripping off Christine's necklace and saying "You belong to me!"). Veeeery frustrating...!!
Best entrance ever, all the men harrased by his presence and all the women tingling with expectations
Watched the musical in London.... Phantom of the opera is one of the best musicals i ever saw and i love it!!!!!
thank you for psoitng this video!
I would kill for a full version of 3:00
Yeah, until he ruined the moment by ripping off her ring/necklace and saying she belonged to him.
If he hadn't been such a douche right then, the story might just have ended differently.
I remember the first time I saw this scene, the gold things at 1:05 freaked me out more than the actual phantom did XD
Really Raoul? Either you have your weapon to begin with or you don't abandon the chick who has TOLD YOU the Phantom's after her. Hell, even Piangi stepped in front of Carlotta when Erik started in on her. Raoul? Upstairs, try again when it's convenient.
The Phantom looked so FINE in this seen. I'd let you be my teacher!!!!
no she loves the phantom secretly its her pride that betrays her.... of course thats the way that Emmy Rossum presents it, and that is the right way to present the character! in the 25th anniversary the costume is so awesome and creepy plus the way he shows up! EPIC! I LOVE THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA!
I just need that mask...
The Phantom took a break in order to design his new mask and cloths :D
I think he ran off to get his sword. At 3:24 you can kinda see that he's buckling his sword onto his belt.
Carlotta Is Enjoying Their Dancing--- Girl Almost Fell Down The Stairs!!
i cant believe my highschool is lucky enough to perform this entire musical :)!
"I'm here, with you, beside you, to guard you and to guide you", said Raoul while he leave the toilet! ¬¬
What was Christine thinking? You're so much better. Braver, sexier, and you can SING. :)
Yes and in the end she kinda chooses him but he lets her go, you know after the kiss when her tells them to go...
THE BEST PHANTOM!
OMG this is my favorite scene! Bravissimo
i wish i had an awsome verse play whenever i entered a room
My moms best friend, and her whole family have planned dancing at their parties haha
At first I wasn't sure how I felt about the movie version, (this is my first time ever seeing anything of it)
However, after watching this, I am pleased :)
I love everything about The Phantom of the Opera! Thank you for this video :)
my school did phantom as our musical last year and it was amazing all together but this was the most fun scene for sure omg
I want his costume! Especially his mask!
how did they know its him? the random music playing when he shows up?!
I bet if he took off that mask he'd look like a panda...
Essa cena é linda demais, eles nas escadas sem palavras!!!
Red and black is the most sexiest colors on a man...I love his outfit in this part.
The ultimate gate crasher....
"If pride will let her return to her teacher."
God I wish I had a teacher like that. Awkward teacher fetish emerging.

I loved that. I wonder if that was put together by the original author.
i lovveee this movie!
Right? I think she and Phantom belong together. If I were her I would choose Eric, not Raoul.
No, she's in love with Raoul. Every time that the Phantom enters the same room as Christine is in, she's pretty much put in a trance. Or, as a lot of people mention, it's his mysterious side, or the fact he needs love.
Gerry goes up in flames at the end because he's too hot to handle lol :D I'm a fan, if you couldn't tell ;P
0:54 Me when I'm late to work.
Gotta love a witty, murderous stalker! :D
WHO IS that dark-haired dancer in the first row on the steps? He is SO GOOD!!!
The whole phantom and Christine the id just so romantic!!!!! ♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡ ^0^
pero que entrada este fantasma, espectacular y ese traje que lo hace mas imponente de lo que es!!!!!
cool the drum beats line up wit his steps
I know right! It was perfect and Christine was starting to like him a little then he had to do something stupid! He should have just shut up right after saying Your teacher and she might have given him a chance.
1:46
perfect time to leave Roaul! CONGRATULATIONS!
It's obvious to everyone that The Phantom is right in front of them, but Raoul is the only one who does anything!
you had me at Angel of Music
This wasposted on my birthday

For some reason, 1:06 makes me think "DON'T BLINK."
