Steve Stevens, is one of the most original guitarists to emerge from the '80s rock scene, best known for his 30-year partnership with Billy Idol, his work on Michael Jackson's “Dirty Diana”, his Grammy Award-winning performance on “Top Gun Anthem” and his work with Vince Neil on “Exposed”.

I love the Fact when he was a student he didn't take part and class and his teacher called him Idle Billy and said he'd never amount to anything and so he turned that into Billy Idol
Billy doesn’t get enough credit for taking his late ‘70s punk roots and combining them with a more mainstream rock sound, while maintaining his edge and style. New wave bands that sprang from punk get way more attention for transitioning in the ‘80s, but Billy took the punk vibe and made it rock anew-like a beast.
He was part of the Bromley Contingent who used to go to the King's Road to pose. They also used to go to Malcolm McClarens shop called SEX run by Vivienne Westwood. Other members of the Contingent were Siouxsie Sioux and Sid Vicious. That where the Sex Pistols come into the story.
I saw this live, the lead guitar player was running and jumping off a box at the front of the stage. One time he slipped and fell on his ass. He didn't skip a note. He just laid back on his back and started JAMMIN. It was so awesome. The best recovery ever.
Oh, and the guitarist is Steve Stevens - Billy Idol’s long-time guitarist and writing partner. He still plays with him. You know that instrumental music in the movie Top Gun where it’s just a wailing guitar (Top Gun Anthem)? That was him. 👍🏻
A lot of us are still kicking and ROCKING at his ripe old age!!! Never underestimate older people!!! We invented this music and have rocked to it since it was "born"!!!💜💜💜🎵🎼🎶🥁🎤🎹🎸🤘🤘🤘🤘 I'm 69 and loved growing up to this music!!! And he's one of my biggest guilty pleasures!!!🤘🤘🤘🤘
He said,he was at a bar drinking with the Roling stones ,Mick and Keith were drinking whiskey called Rebel Yell, he told them he was going to make a song out of it, they said go ahead.
Never thought about that but YOU ARE RIGHT! Perfect structure- low and growling then amps up while still melodic and thrilling and sexy all the time...it IS perfectly structured.
I dig this young man. Not meaning to sound like an old coot but he’s younger than me & digging what I grew up on. Love his appreciation of the legends. Go back to square 1 and listen to GENERATION X this is where Billy got his start.
In the not so distant future(anymore🤔), sitting in my rocking chair in the old peoples home - Billy Idol will still be screaming out from the loudspeakers. Turn the damn volume up!
As a black dude who used to listed to nothing but MTV when we got cable back in 84 before rap really hit the scene its cool these youngsters are branching out and expanding their musical pallets. BRUH you need to get up on some STING....Powerful stuff.
I'm 52 and my mom71. We were driving around town and the song Don't Stand So Close to Me came on the oldies station. I guess she never really listened to all of the lyrics. I was singing out loud when it suddenly got weird. She figured out what the song was about. I was a teen back when MTV played videos. She had a few of the Police albums (cassette tapes) It was funny I always assumed she already knew. I'm vague on purpose so anyone too young to remember can go listen and figure it out.
Oh my goodness. I too was addicted to MTV in the 80's. I think that's why I can listen to all types of music. It's sad when people only listen to one or two genres. Steve Steven's is the only celebrity I followed on social media. He's unbelievable with his guitar skills. If Mr. Video is rocking off Billy Idol, then he will find Sting to be the complete opposite. He's more cerebral, visceral, very deep. He may like The Police (in particular the songs that weren't singles). But I like them both. My first single that I bought when I was 7 or 8 was King of Pain by the Police. The first concert that I paid to see in my late teens was Sting. I was totally obsessed with the Nothing Like the Sun album.
White Wedding. Also he has a great part in Adam Sandler movie called, Wedding Singer. It is set in the 80s. Billy Idol and his band is on a jet airliner and has to help save the day... I think it is towards the end of the movie or 3/4 through. Billy Idol is funny in general (on talk shows) and he does a great job in the movie. Side note, Adam Sandler can have that same kind of tone and yell in some of his music / comedy.
I was going to recommend the same movie to him but I see you beat me to it!. I so agree with everything you said and Billy appears toward the end. I thought he was really good in that movie.
Man when you said Billy Idol is savage you don’t know the half of it, the old stories of Billy in his hay day are so crazy you’d think there is no way it could’ve happened. Billy once barricaded himself in a hotel room in Thailand with a bunch of coke and hookers, did over a 100000 dollars worth of damage and Thai police had to break in and shoot Billy with a tranquilizer dart to get him out of there. Oh and the guitarist is Steve Stevens and do Billy Idol - “Dancin With Myself”.
@@eleanorwalmsley635 I actually prefer my rock stars alive to make more music. How many have we lost to stupid shit like over drinking and choking on their own puke? Billy's lucky to be alive, and I'm glad he is, but let's face it... not everyone is Ozzy or Keith and practically immortal lol
@@Mystress1980 I feel you on that. I do suppose however that what the attitude that leads to "sex, drugs, and rock n roll" is would be an attitude of rebellious youth. Musicians should be wild and free, that doesnt necessarily mean doing drugs, but living life and sharing those experiences through their artistic prowess. The golden eras of classic rock and rap are arguably during the periods when the genres were dominated by rebellious youth making anti establishment music. Not that other periods have not produced great music as well, just that there is a strong argument to be made for protest music of the 60s both for equal rights and against vietnam and the 90s rap that was in response to decades of a war on drugs and the gang violence it spawned feeding an ever expanding prison industrial complex being the golden eras of the genres. Those eras for those genres also happened to have a lot of rebellious youth making influential music, doing drugs, and being taken way too young. Many would also argue those golden eras died when the establishment being railed against embraced the music and commercialized it. Again not that it meant the end of all good music from those genres, just that there became a lot more content made for commercial sale to sift through.

Steve Stevens is the guitarist. He and his wife Josie feature on a 2010 show called Married to rock, with the lead singer of Janes addiction (Perry Farell) and the bassist of GnR/Velvet revolver (Duff McKagan) 's wives
