You're awesome. I've been watching a lot of RV UA-camrs and by far your channel is the most cut and dry, "here's how you do this, with no BS or fluff or drama". Love it. Thank you!

Hey. I love camping trailers. My brother has an RV that he bought and the neat thing about sliding additions is that when it comes to cleaning the windows, bringing in the slides brings the windows inside the RV which makes it easier to clean the pollen off of the windows. I am glad that you to are here as there could be an RV question that I might have and I am here away from my brother and he is busy. But Jared, you being a great teacher in teaching us all about camping trailers has gotten you a subscription from me.

As absolutely OCD I am about maintenance on all things that may require it, knowing what I'm doing wrong or right or just learning is quite important to me and you're someone I appreciate about this subject.
Your ability to explain and show what and how is impressive.
Thank you for another great "HOW TO" video!! Your doing a great job here on your channel.

I know this video is about the mechanisms on the slide outs but it would be a great idea to check the flooring surface on the outside. We have been looking for a light Fifth wheel for our 2007 2500HD Gas truck to replace our Fifth wheel that got crushed. We have run into a lot of Rvs that have slide rot. A number of manufacturers are using the cheap woven tarp looking material to cover the flooring on the outside. When the rains pours down the sides of the slide, the water is not falling straight off the side but rolling to underneath the slide some. The cheap wood flooring after a while gets wet and starts to soften up the floor. There are "ski" L shape pieces you can add to the edge and bottom to help prevent this. Always look forward to your helpful videos. Take Care!

I always brush and wipe clean the top of the slide roof every time before we slide it in, it's a good practice to make sure the upper seal doesn't get damaged. I have a nice liteweight 4 foot aluminum ladder that fits nicely in the pass though cubby. Some people carry a leaf blower to clean the roof off.

I also include using the seal conditioner on all the seals on the doors the outside storage areas and I also vacuum and inspect under the carpet on the inside of the slides . It is surprising what you may find under the carpet.

Of course I went through this YESTERDAY on my trailer. Watching was still good to see I did what I as supposed to, but I did spray the 3 in 1 slide lube ON my tail teeth and the gear. I felt pretty good about it, but now that you say they suggest not doing it I guess I will just leave it out next time. Thanks for the information and the way you cover things and make them simple to understand.

Love your videos! If a full-timer is going to stay put for 4-months or longer in a particular resort or campground, how often should they operate the slides just to keep everything working properly? And, if it's going to be longer than 6-months, should the unit get closed up and go for a short drive for any reason? I'm thinking wheel bearings and other suspension parts, as well as the tires "just rolling a little bit." I welcome your thoughts on these 2 different preventative maintenance ideas.

2 bullets - 1) don’t forget the rubber seals on top of the slide and the under side of the unit. Those are often overlooked being out of sight.
    2) a good tip is to keep some spray wax on hand and wax all 4 sides periodically to reduce any friction between the sides and seals.

If you have a PVC roof do not use rubber conditioner that has WD-40 in it. The WD-40 reacts to the vinyl and softens it. I did that unknowingly and WD-40 says you shouldn’t do that and there’s no warnings on their cans so be cautious if you have a PVC roof. My roof bubbled where the wd40 contacted it.

All good points. However, the one thing i rarely see people talk about is checking the rollers under the slide. Some times they freeze up and the slide drags on top of them instead of rolling over. *Schwintek* Which can damage the bottom or make it extra noisy. Some rollers are plastic and break others are metal and just need WD40 to loosen and followed by lube. Ask me how i know. lol. Also check under the slide to make sure nothing has fell/ rolled under there from time to time. Hope this helps someone out there.

Power Gear, the inventer of the rack and pinion system says NEVER LUBE THE GEAR OR TOOTH RAIL. I just spent two days removing and repairing the damaged rails and gears, from years of accumulated lubricant that built up and caused damage. The most I will ever put on those rails is something like 303 Protectant, and only that if I see drying or rust. Wish I could send you the pictures.

We have a 2010 Newmar Dutch star 4048
None of the slides are anything like the ones you’ve shown in your videos. I am reluctant to do anything to them, because I might muck it up.
We have three different sides, and all three have completely unique systems, and none of them or anything like you’re describing
Two of them are fully enclosed when extend out or in so there is nothing to lubricate. The super slide has beams with holes underneath that I’m guessing gets pulled in with a gear with pointy round knobs on it which I can’t get to.
I’m guessing that since they’re not exposed to the elements at all, maybe there’s nothing to do. If you know of any other videos that show this, I would love to be directed to them. I haven’t been unsuccessful in finding them on my own.🙏🏻

I purchased a generic silicone lubricant...good enough for taking care of both the rails and the seal?
