This game is a large detailed illusion. However, the best magic tricks are illusions that appear so real you believe that it was actually magic. 2k + hrs, every achievement, 9 playthroughs with 2 on honor mode, I believe BG3 was magical. My favorite moment was one turning the dragon Azure out of the sky before they patch the ability to do it out of the game.

I see your point although please let me live my illusions just yet! I will most probably feel the same after two thousand hours!

You’re just confused. Baldur’s Gate 3 is real life. Everything else is just an illusion.

Strange. My opinions differ quite a bit (still love the game, one of, if not my favourite ever). This game is great gameplay wise but it fails at achieving immersion, at least for me.
Characters: ummmm. No. It has been a question I have struggled to answer for so long, how do people love these characters so much when frankly to me, they're just kinda ok? I found the answer. Relatively, these characters are EASILY better than most characters in recent AAA games (which is why newcomers to the genre lose their shit over them), but compared to other CRPGs, these guys aren't amazing. Jaheira in Baldur's Gate 2 is still by far the best companion in the entire series and easily is better than all of the BG3 companions. BG3's companions lack verisimilitude in comparison. Their development comes at predestined plot points and can take place regardless of their activity in the game. If you've had a companion in your party the whole game, or if they have been in your camp not doing anything, they'll still go through their pre-written development. It feels unnatural. And the characters' situations and motives are not very relatable (except Shadowheart's). They also all actively seek to romance you which breaks immersion. They all want a piece of you, and saying maybe 2 or 3 things they agree with can immediately make them love you. It feels weird. I agree that they are very well integrated into the story though.
Music: it feels overproduced. Usually if a game's OST is so good that you can listen to it on its own, then it likely doesn't work within the game well, and very much is true. Combat music is great, but the music that plays outside combat is too overdone. It's distracting. It's too complex and the textures are often too thick, and there is a lack of unity in them too. This causes the game to have no sense of atmosphere at all. Seriously. Play Skyrim, or Fallout, or Five Night's at Freddy's, or Baldur's Gate 1, or Borderlands and you'll notice that the background music feels like it's coming from your surroundings and it adds to the ambience, rather than overshadows it. Baldur's Gate 3 has ambience, but the overlapping music screws up any sense of atmosphere it gives. BG3 straight up has no sense of atmosphere at all. Every area ends up feeling generic and the same to some extent, despite all looking vastly different. The atmospheres between them don't differ because there is none.
Atmopshere: I can't understand your stance, there is no atmospheric feeling to BG3. The sound design, visuals, and the other things you mentioned are on point, but what makes at atmosphere go from ok to great is background music, which BG3 fumbles on. Exploration is a gameplay quality that the game does really well, and I think its core design creates reason enough to want to explore rather than the atmosphere (which I still don't know how you think is 'amazing') but yeah.
Combat: hard agree. It's simply amazing the depth it has.
Pretty much everything gameplay related the game absolutely kills it. Writing-wise, I really don't think this game is that good in this category.

Thank you very much for your insightful feedback and for taking the time to share your opinion!
Regarding the characters, I agree that there is an excessive emphasis on close intimacy, but romancing with Shadowheart is truly an exceptional experience!
As for the music, I understand your perspective, but the score is absolutely amazing, whether it's overproduced or not. When it comes to music, I've listened to it quite a lot before playing the game as I've mentioned in the video so you also might have a fair point, since I might have become biased and used to it which might also be the reason why it didn't find distracting. Although overproduced or not, I still strongly feel the score is amazing!

@@sirsoyer yes, on their own, the soundtracks are absolutely awesome. I listen to plenty of them when I'm running errands or just during day to day activities.

Nothing is for everyone. But I related 100 percent to everything in this video. And it’s comforting to know I am one of many people obsessed with BG3. In 45 years of computer gaming, this is by far the best. i’ve played BG2 and Jaheira in BG3 is just as good as in BG2 but better because you can really see her.
Writing, animation, music and gameplay are all genius level.

@@doloresabernathy9809 disagree on Jaheira. The writing is pretty meh on its own, bad compared to BG2. Jaheira’s involvement in the game at all is contrived, as with Minsc and every other legacy character. You can ‘see’ Jaheira a lot better in BG2 because her companion quest is an emotional roller coaster of betrayal and sacrifice. Her quest in BG3 is a contrived, crappy, lazy ‘save member berry friend for the fan service!!!!’ Don’t care.
I’m all for celebrating BG3 and it’s success but there are things it does badly, such as writing, companions, and pacing. The companions have basically no scripted events or interactions compared to BG2. Their origin stories are also quite basic and do not meaningfully expand on the zillions of cliches they use. BG2’s writing and companions are both objectively far better than BG3’s. Also the way BG3’s dialogue lines are written is absolutely atrocious I had to get that off my chest somewhere.
The music in BG3 is good but it doesn’t work well as a game soundtrack. It doesn’t feel as though it’s driving the in game circumstance and it’s also overproduced out of combat, which removes all sense of atmosphere from the game.
Sorry but your memory of BG2 is either foggy or we somehow played a different game or something. BG2 on a writing level far outclasses BG3.
BG2 Jaheira is wayyy better than all the BG3 companions. She is 10/10. The BG3 origins are 7/10s at best and are a footnote compared to her.

@@chatarrra7457 BG2 entire story is text based. Bg3 entire story is voice acted and animated. It’s like comparing a book to a movie, different mediums. Maybe i dont recall the great writing of bg2 because it was too much to read and I skipped it.
To each their own but as a fully voice-acted interactive animated movie BG3 is a masterpiece of a new medium. BG2 is a different medium. but if you prefer it then enjoy it!
