I got this game for my Sega dreamcast in America back in 2001. So you don't need a japanese dreamcast to play it. But if you have a American dreamcast and a foreign game you can use a gameshark all you do is pop in the gameshark cd let it load then open your system put in the japanese/euro game and close the lid and it will play it without having to mod or buy another dreamcast.
wow. that is the most gentle, soothing, and calm Game Over screen i've ever seen. it's as if it doesn't want you to feel bad for getting your ass kicked by a computer.
I love how SNK includes different characters from their other games like Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, Metal Slug, and the biggest collab, King of Fighters.
shame this game never got a sequel, I really feel like snk finally nailed it with controls and flow with this game. It is to me their best fighting game. It's kinda like the street fighter 3 of snk games to me even though most say KoF 98 is their best.
MOTW is to Neo Geo and SNK fighters what Third Strike was to the CPS3 and Street Fighter - just the pinnacle of their respective classes. MOTW edges it out for me, though: the graphics push the Neo Geo to the limit and Just Defend is more accessible while every bit as tactical as parrying. And the story's better.
This beats the hell out of anything made by SNK or Capcom in the years that followed, both Capcom and SNK were in their prime in the Dreamcast era. Capcom had Street Fighter III 3rd strike and Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 while SNK had Garou Mark of the Wolves and The Last Blade 2. Sometimes I think I may actually enjoy Mark of the Wolves more than third strike, I think it's just the most fun of the two, Third Strike is the better game of the two but I feel more compelled to play Mark of the Wolves when I want some quick action.
Really one of the finest 2D sprite-based game ever made. SNK was halfway along on a sequel when they had to end Neo Geo production. Now that SNK are back on their feet and swimming in Saudi money, hopefully one day they'll finish it off.
sega/dreamcast was the best in the 90s. i remembered my oldest bro always goes to the arcade to play these games for a quarter; he was soo good that 1 quarter last him about 2 to 3 playthrough games. lol. sometwimes, we go in the morning and when we came out of the arcade place, it's already dark. he stop playing sega around 2008, but still, it's good memories.
It's nice to see that SNK eventually started to smooth the animation in their fighters. That was the only complaint I had back when they competed with Street Fighter 2.
I keep my copy for Dreamcast of this fucking awesome epic game, since i was a kid i'm a HUGE SNK lover, and getting back in the day this game when Neo Geo AES was fucking expensive (and still it is) and playing it home...man what a wonderfull experience! I keep playing it from time to time and i'm nowhere as good as i was but hell it is super fun to play!
which version of the ps4 xo game do you have online? ACA, X360 arcade version? The loveliest fight I have ever played is brilliant for this game I bought AC :)
Never got the chance to play this on Dreamcast, or any home console that it's playable on but I did buy it for my phone to take on the go and I love it. I'm a fan of Jae Hoon, and Kim Kaphwan if I'm playing Fatal Fury/KOF. Thanks for reviewing these awesome SNK titles!
One of the best fighting games ever. I like that they ported it enough (AES, PS2, DC, XBLA) and I'm glad it became available to the western audience. The game is worth it for B. Jenet alone... right? Probably.
According to research, this game was released in North America under the name Fatal Fury: Mare of the Wolves. There never was a PAL-released version, sadly.
Yeah if I remember right this was the first affordable console title of G:MOTW, as the NeoGeo titles were ridiculously expensive on release as well as NeoGeo home consoles being quite expensive. Dreamcast had Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and Capcom vs Snk 2 for other great 2D fighters that are more visually impressive and it had many exclusive fighting games that were quite unique like Plasma Sword and Project Justice.
Technically this Garou would have had more characters for one. The sprites wouldn't break up as much when doing Ppower moves. Remember the Dreamcast is a downsized NAOMI board. This is why MvC2, CvS, CvS Pro, and CvS2 translated well because it was easy to port.
Most of the 2d fighters on the Dreamcast were just straight ports from older, weaker hardware (I'm greatfull and love them all, though). It would have been too expensive and time consuming to re-draw all of the sprites and backdrops. Guilty Gear X shows what the Dreamcast was really capable of 2d wise. Imo, it's still one of the smoothest, best looking 2d fighters out there.
The original designer of SF broke off from Capcom and started making the SNK games, which led to Capcom ripping off certain aspects and incorporating them into the SF series.
This is one of the best fighting games ever made. SNK made this game to compete with Street Fighter 3 and I think the matched that title in quality, depth, and fun.
Being a huge Street Fighter fan I didn't play much of the Fatal Fury series. This game however really won me over. Everything about it is great and it stacks up practically even with Street Fighter 3. Worthy of being in any 2D fighting game fan's collection. SNK saved the best game of the Fatal Fury series for the last entry the company would make.
Yeah, this bad boy came put over here on the Dreamcast in the USA, but I don't know if this was a problem with the Japanese version but it spun the entire time. Graphics overload!
This was one of the very last games released for Dreamcast. I bought it back in the day simply because I was happy there was a new game out for dreamcast at the time. I thought it was a dead system.
This is one of my favourite fighting games ever, it's in a tie with Last Blade 2, I can't decide which is better, but I've played both to death, and an american version of this does exist and it's actually not expensive.
The North American release is worth hundreds of dollars now. The prices of Dreamcast games in general are not cheap. I guess that makes sense for games that are now close to 25 years old and are no longer sold by SEGA. I also don't remember a lot of people having this in their collection back in the day but than again I didn't know many people other than myself that owned a Sega Dreamcast. The only reason I owned one is because my Dad picked it up for my late-brother at launch for whatever reason that was. We had the more popular titles such as Sonic, Blue Stinger, Power Stone, MVC, and most of the launch titles. I even had one of the Tomb Raider games at one time. I've recently collected these games over the year and none of them are cheap anymore to get. Power Stone, Power Stone 2, and MVC 2 are all expensive games. I even have this game in my collection but it's sealed and as much as I would prefer to play a legit gd-rom copy of this game over a burned cd-r. I have had this copy of the game sealed up because I always think about selling it even though I believe I paid a pretty penny for this a couple years ago like around 180 bucks or so for the sealed copy. I was making money years ago caring for my Grandma. So my large Dreamcast Collection that I have now a days is thanks to her. Which I'm 100 percent grateful of and when she passes I will have memories to go along with it. It was also fun caring for my Grandma because I spent much time with her even though most of the hours was her sleeping at night and I cared for her in the morning getting her breakfast and her pills. Sorry for this long story. The only thing I disliked was the fact that my Grandma allowed the Media to think for her and when she had ABC News on she just repeated word by word how much she despises Donald Trump and Republicans. It's sad seeing my Grandma who suffers from cognitive issues to be easily manipulated by the Media. My Grandma has a strong heart though. She has pro-life values so it's quite confusing why she has so much hatred in her heart for Republicans since she aligns with them on many issues. Also, pretty certain my Aunt is illegally Voting for my Grandma when they send out ballots and my Grandma who despises Hillary Clinton probably Voted for her only because my Aunt illegally Voted for my Grandma. I'm pretty certain there's a lot of wicked people out there Voted for others. They have been brainwashed with nothing but hate by the Mainstream Media. Yes Orange dude is flawed but I see so many problems with the other guy who has shown signs of cognitive issues even before he was so called Elected for President. The Media is disgusting in this Country in my personal opinion. We are living in an insane time period. As messed up the 2000's was with the Iraq War and other Major Wars going on. I definitely felt like there was less chaos. Now we have even more Major Wars going on which I'm 100 percent against. No one should be for these Wars. The Media and a certain ideology in my personal opinion is creating this chaos. We didn't have Major Wars or over 30 million illegs sneaking over the border under Trump. Many of those illegs have committed multiple crimes other than sneaking over the border such as taking the lives of our civilians with drugs. I even feel like my brother was a victim to this back in June of 2021. When I mentioned late-brother that is what I meant by that sadly. He was also tricked by the Media and had a lot of Hate in his Heart when he was alive. He would consume a lot of MSNBC, Colbert, and John Oliver propaganda.
@maxxdblade Garou is actually a Fatal Fury game, this is why Terry is in the game since he was always one of the main characters of the Fatal Fury storyline and this game continued the storyline.
I remember seeing this in MEDIA PLAY if anyone remembers that store. After a couple months it went away and never came back. It had a pretty low count run in the states for the Dreamcast. It was very affordable too since it was one of the last games to be released on the DC. It was 39.99 at the time brand new. I think it's alot more now (US version).
hey mark, garou mark of the wolves did had a western release on the dreamcast except it's called fatal fury mark of the wolves. i know this cause i still have a working copy of the US version of the game on the dreamcast : ).
@MANNY100123 Firefox with Ad Block Plus is your friend. I haven't seen an Ad on UA-cam in years. Couple it with Flashblock and you load a page, the video won't start until you click it, no Ad and if you have Download Helper installed too you can skip that and just download it in whatever Resolution you Want. :D
The western DC release, Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves, was a budget title from Agetec released very late (or after?) in the system's life. I really miss this dudes reviews. Light a spliff, watch his Dreamcast reviews then hit Redream in 4K. Loving the DC like it's 1999.
Well said 👍👍
This game is highly underrated but looks awesome and plays very well. hell it puts Street Fighter III in its place
I got this game for my Sega dreamcast in America back in 2001. So you don't need a japanese dreamcast to play it. Best 2d Fighting game ever

It's a simplified Fatal Fury game, and that's pretty good if ask me.
This is a sweet fighting game. A real showcase of some of SNK's best sprite-based artistry. Thanks for the review!
BEST.....FIGHTER....EVER

it's so great that you are doing so many dreamcast reviews!!!!!
Damn, I love this game.
Great job with all of your vids!!! Much respect!
One of my favorite fighters of all time. The characters are divers, a pretty well balanced game and smooth as hell.
love this game so much! great review!
I got this on my PSP thanks to some research, it's a tremendous game - great mechanics and superb animations.
This game is so Beautiful, its perfect!
I have this game love playing it great video
ooooo, mamma! this classic arcade game take me back when i was 17 (year 2007) and saw it at huntigtion park arcade center "gotta love that arcade"
I'd love to see an HD sequel for this game.Make it happen SNK Playmore!
this game was also released on in the US on the dreamcast. I have it and the MVS cart, it's the best Neo Geo fighter by far
sega/dreamcast was the best in the 90s. i remembered my oldest bro always goes to the arcade to play these games for a quarter; he was soo good that 1 quarter last him about 2 to 3 playthrough games. lol. sometwimes, we go in the morning and when we came out of the arcade place, it's already dark. he stop playing sega around 2008, but still, it's good memories.

The loveliest fight I have ever played is brilliant for this game I bought AC :)
cool looking...thanks again for helping me find a new game for My Arcade Cabinet...I'm seeing a trend! :)
An Outstanding Fighter in my opinion. Nice Review as always!
those sprites are so fluidly animated
This game is awesome, I usually play as B. Jenet the sexy pirate lady her moveset is like, the same as ryu in street fighter lol
One of the best fighting games ever. I like that they ported it enough (AES, PS2, DC, XBLA) and I'm glad it became available to the western audience. The game is worth it for B. Jenet alone... right? Probably.
You need to try out the RGB scart video cable if your TV allows it.
It's a simplified Fatal Fury game, and that's pretty good if ask me.
"It's an easy game to jump into, but very difficult to master-" BATE!!
im loving this shower of Dreamcast reviews Awesome!
One of the best Fatal Fury games, with the coolest of characters
i miss this kinna stuff, please bring back CGR.
According to research, this game was released in North America under the name Fatal Fury: Mare of the Wolves. There never was a PAL-released version, sadly.
I think it's crazy that the Neo Geo can produce 2d graphics nearly as well as the Dreamcast which came out 10 years later.
Dreamcast can do much better than this...
Yeah if I remember right this was the first affordable console title of G:MOTW, as the NeoGeo titles were ridiculously expensive on release as well as NeoGeo home consoles being quite expensive.

This is without a doubt 1 of the best beat'em ups ever made,2d or 3d.I have the x.b.l.a version.
Nice, Kim Jae is my favorite character in this game. Nice finish.
The original designer of SF broke off from Capcom and started making the SNK games, which led to Capcom ripping off certain aspects and incorporating them into the SF series.

@InecomCompany This game did have a U.S. release on the Dream Cast. It was titled "Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves". ; )

I loved that game. Had such great sprite animations.
Those fluid animations though.🔥
i really really enjoy watching mark review games. can you review you own channel?
Yes Agetec made an English version for NA and European markets. They also did Last Blade 2. You have to check that one out.
another dreamcast review :D im loving it!
i like Real Bout Fatal Fury Special as the best of the fatal fury line
Yeah, this bad boy came put over here on the Dreamcast in the USA, but I don't know if this was a problem with the Japanese version but it spun the entire time. Graphics overload!
God I want to play this game.
Me too.
Its compatible with analog button in dreamcast controller ?? Or just D-pad??
i loved this game back in the day
I remember this game!!!
My Dad bought it for my big brother.
omg...this was the first game I ever played...when I was 13...
aaahhh...I will cry...
I love getting to skip an ad every now and then :)...
NOW IF ONLY WE CAN GET THAT CHOICE WITH EVERY OTHER UA-cam VID!!! ^^
Thanks, man. That will help a lot cause I want to buy this game :D
it would rock if xbox 360 had all the snk neo geo games to stream ...
Damn I wish they re-release this with online play. Loved this game.
This was one of the very last games released for Dreamcast. I bought it back in the day simply because I was happy there was a new game out for dreamcast at the time. I thought it was a dead system.
lmfaooo, god I missed these lines.
" C'mon~! GEH' SRUIOUS!!"
Hey, is there a PS2 version of this? I looked it up, and it says it's a Japanese Import, it's the same game, right?
This is one of my favourite fighting games ever, it's in a tie with Last Blade 2, I can't decide which is better, but I've played both to death, and an american version of this does exist and it's actually not expensive.

Mark, please do a review of the Garou Mark Of The Wolves japanese packaging, the SNK art in manuals and boxes are always amazing.

that first fight is terry bogard... is it like street fight zero for fatal fury?
@TheIrateFan you can change those details in the options
anyway, great fighting game, not my top favourite but it's up there
Great review
good review keep them comin ur show rules
Man I love old games...
So there are no wolves in this game?
Please review KOF 94'!
missed this on DC, played it before on XBLA, absolutely love it.
Classiest game over screen of all time.
The best SNK title
LOL I LOVE THE GAME OVER AT THE END
This is one of my absolute favourite one-on-one fighting games. I think I prefer the DC version over the original NeoGeo one.
I have this on my MVS, totally brilliant fighter. It's like a new Fatal Fury :)
This and Sengoku 3 are the two best games SNK ever produced, IMHO.
Guess I missed that part good to know. Going to download it right away.
wow this game looks awesome^^ very smooth!
loved this game!!!
Fun fact: the chorus of Rock Howard's stage is actually a sample of the 90s dance hit "Robert Miles - Children'
This might be the best 2d fighter ever,it’s definitely in my top 5 that’s for sure!
this game is totally awesome, nuff said.
i used to play this all the time, then i got it on xboxlive, so now i play it all the time
lol the background song between 02:46/02:54 is children from robert miles, nice touch.
i like that this game has children by robert miles as a theme song for one of the stages you can hear it right around 2:48
hey mark, garou mark of the wolves did had a western release on the dreamcast except it's called fatal fury mark of the wolves. i know this cause i still have a working copy of the US version of the game on the dreamcast : ).

My favorite fighting game of all time, next to CVS 2.
It has an American release for the dreamcast as Fatal Fury mark of the wolves.
Trivia: "This one's going in my pocketbook."
@kiaelinkx or is it the other one? anyway figured it out, must be due to the video capture card or something 8]
The western DC release, Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves, was a budget title from Agetec released very late (or after?) in the system's life. It was maybe 15-20 bucks when it came out, so they shouldn't be that pricey or hard to find; but I wouldn't put it past people to crank up the price on it anyways.
(I do know it got me a bunch of points when I traded it on Goozex, though.)
Great ending, it looks like I have to buy a japanese dreamcast. Thanks for all the promotion of japanese games on your latest videos Mark, they work.
