- Classic Game Room reviews SONIC ADVENTURE for Sega Dreamcast from Sega released in 1999. Follow Sonic and friends on an adventure that changed the Sonic series for the next decade. While not the first time in 3D, Sonic Adventure blends 3-D style Sonic the Hedgehog gameplay with a variety of other gameplay styles like arcade airplanes shooters, pinball and futuristic driving games. Sega released Sonic Adventure for Xbox 360 Live Arcade and PS3 Playstation 3 Network with HD visuals, here's a look at the original Sonic Adventure on Sega Dreamcast. This CGR review of Sonic Adventure has gameplay from Sonic Adventure showing Sonic Adventure video game play in HD action.

I love this game. Back then Sega had an idea of who Sonic was.
This still holds up.
When the Dreamcast was murdered, Sonic got caught in the collateral damage : (
Sonic's future actually is good. Sonic Boom TV series and game now has Shadow in it (interactive only), and movie is good on pace, and will probably be released? June 23rd, 2015 or June 23rd, 2016. I'd make it 2016 because 25 year anniversary.
Jackson Hockenberry Too bad Sonic Boom blows.
Jackson well it's 2017 and there's not even a trailer
@@jackson528 Dude, Shadow is awful.
this game was ABSOLUTELY AWSOME back in the day
+nastybeard I remember my Dad renting dreamcast and I played this for two days straight with no sleep, it was an orgasmic experience.
this game , was my first sonic , sonic adventure was amazing , cool graphics , cool soundtrack , i loved too much ,
I absolutely loved Sonic Adventure 1 and 2. Man the freaking soundtrack always got my adrenaline pumping!! I feel like even though it was Sonic's first venture into 3d, to me, Sega still managed to make Sonic edgy and cool. I'm gonna go play it on my Dreamcast now!!
SONIC ADVENTURE 1 AND 2 ARE SOME OF THE GREATEST GAMES OF ALL TIME
People need to know that the Dr3@mc@$t was awesome
I highly agree with you.
My favorite era of sonic is the 1999-2009 era
This brings back sooooo many memories. Best game I had for my dreamcast. And Rayman
Nothing looked like this at the time. I remember reading in CVG that it looked so good it was like a silicon graphics machine. Give it stick all you want but it was pretty amazing at the time.
And still is
You were absolutely right about this being an arcade game at heart. I remember, back in the day, that Nickel-Nickel had a Dreamcast set up with this game.
this came with my dreamcast! back in 1999! :D good ol' days, this game will forever be awesome
I love Sonic Adventure 1. It's WAY better than Sonic Adventure 2. My favorite modern Sonic games are: Sonic Adventure/Sonic Adventure DX, Sonic Advance 1, Sonic Battle, Shadow the Hedgehog, Sega Superstars Tennis, Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games, and Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood.
+Dustin Nunn Yeah, same opinion. I liked the hub worlds.
I agree.
Same, The Hubs and being able to play exactly with the character you want, better than SA2.
This has to be one of my favorite sonic games ever made loved the DX version on my gamecube.
I cried a little inside when he was throwing the chao around.
man this takes me back I really miss this game
Oh, no doubt. I can't stop watching these classic reviews.
I loved this game. Can't believe its been over 10 years since I first played it.
I loved this game back in the day......if My Dreamcast hadn't died I'd prolly still play this today.
I have this game for the gamecube, and it's one of my favorite games ever. IT'S SO AWESOME!
I had it on my dreamcast I got it for Christmas and I remember the nights stage entrance in 5:40 good days back then..!
I still have this game from 1999. I loved the graphics so much back then, I really thought it was the best looking game I had ever played. :-)
i still love this game, about a month ago i re-bought this game for the dreamcast since i did not own it when i was younger but instead borrowed it from a guy i knew. My dreamcast later broke and it wasn't until a year ago that i bought another one from a Goodwill for 10 dollars (yes i'm not kidding only 10 dollars with all of the cables and whatnot) and it took me a while to get games for it i only have about 6 games atm, but i plan on getting more, but this game for me was a must to get.
i use to play this on my dreamcast , what a memories
I used to play this soooo much on gamecube!
This is one of the BEST sonic games ever made it's just easy to pick up and play and overall has a good story and ok graphics but the control is great soundtrack is awesome. And I hope sega would make another great sonic game like this one.
+lmddhumour That's got to be really depressing if this is one of the best. This game has way to many flaws.
This was the Dreamcast game that hook my family into purchasing the console. So much fun!
I always wanted to see a review of this game. I never made if very far at all in this game, so it was great to see so many levels! Thanks! Great review.
I used to play this game all the time when I was younger.
This is actually one of my favorite games ever... I can't really explain it in a single comment but it's just an awesome game!
This brings me back to 1999. Great review. Love this game.
Always use the dreamcast triggers to rotate the camera. Makes first person mode a bit of a novelty.
This was loads of people's introduction to (what was then) next gen gaming. I remember this looking amazing at the time.
0:42 I just realised that tails is unhappy... Also, have you ever been flying through windows in sonic adventure?
My favorite sonic game to date, I played this game for hours as a kid I loved everything about this game, a true classic.
I nostalgia'd so hard. I was always baffled by this game, but it brings back so many memories.
I just picked up Sonic Adventure DX on Gamecube the other day. Loved every minute of it.
one of the best sonic games! i remember when i played this game
My 2 most favorite gaming consoles: Gamecube and Dreamcast,
Dreamcast: great for arcade style games, shooters and fighters. bad for FPS games
Gamcube: great 3d platformers, and nintendo exclusives. bad for fighting games.
PS2: great variety of games of all sorts. bad graphic performance.
Xbox: great FPS collection, great graphic performance. poor library and few first party games.
there were some noticeable glitches in this game, and too many times i died completely unfairly, but i still love this game.... it was such an experience to play through it!
imagine going straight from a genesis to this! my mind was BLOWN
The killer whale scene in the first stage is what sold me on the Dreamcast.
FINALLY! Been waiting so long for this review!
One of my favourite games EVER!!!
I just love Sonic :)
I had this game, and I loved it!
this is one of my favorite games of all time
this was the first game i ever played on dreamcast when i got it for XMAS Holidays back in 1999 when i was only 6.
Good review.
This was my favourite game when I was 5 XD. I played it for about 2 years lol
I think I'll get this game again on the psn. Ah 1999 was a good year.
Sonic Adventure is actually my favorite Sonic game, followed by the sequel. I prefer the GameCube versions though, since I prefer the GameCube as a console over the Dreamcast.
This game got a re-release before the 360, it was on Gamecube as well.
Sonic Adventure is one of the best games on the Dreamcast. The Dreamcast was just damn good.
And the casino is my favorite part too xD
i cant believe i still have this game, its soo good in many ways except Big cats levels lol
This is my favourite game ever !
It is also re-released as Sonic Adventure DX on Nintendo Gamecube and PC
as well as PS3 and Xbox 360.
i played the directors cut of this on my gamecube but i remember playing thi the dreamcast as well
Love this game!! I was upset with the modern port, though, as it wasn't an HD update. I'll play it native, thank you very much!!
Yes!! Finally you posted this!
Love both Sonic Adventure and the classic 2D games
bought this game from the psn store love it :)
You know, I like the Dreamcast Models better than the XBLA models because XBLA models look like toys.
Yeah the Dreamcast ones look like plushies which is cuter
This game actually had a surprisingly deep story. When E-102 kills himself, I was actually pretty moved. I also thought Amy's girly personality was charming as well as Tails summoning up all his bravery to defeat Eggman on his own. The conclusion with Super Sonic was epic. This game has a lot of shortcomings but it's worth slogging through in my opinion because the overall experience is quite good.
Zip your tip. To much yap.
Now we need is an SA2 review :D
We own his game for the Wii called Sonic Adventure DX. My nephew once kept myself and my niece up until midnight playing it. He's so much better at it than I am.
This game is a legend, ever since i got rid of my dream cast 7 years ago i still want one, but to be honest i still think they are probly one of the best consoles out.
Shadow man, sonic adventure and tropic thunder were what made dreamcast :D
My first Sonic Game from when I was 7
Sonic Adventure DX Director's Cut is my all time fav Sonic game.
Man this game is badass. It was the very first DC game I ever played and it absolutely sold the console to me (My main TV now only has the DC and a 360 hooked up to it).
It was nowhere near a perfect game, but it's charm, originality, and snappy tone certainly make up for any of it's short comings in my eyes.
This is the last good Sonic game ever made; I went out and bought Sonic Adventure 2 at release, but they lied - it wasn't an adventure at all.
I still hope for a real sequel one day... :D
@Dreamewalker I definitely agree on E-102. It was the first story I've played in a video game where I was pretty touched. Few games since then have actually been able to do so.
Man i love the music from it sonic games have the greatest music
I have a question. I think there's something wrong with my copy of Sonic Adventure 1 for Dreamcast. Some sound effects more particularly the ring sound effect is missing when I'm playing the game on stereo, when I play it on mono, the ring sound effect is in place. Also Tikal gets cut off while she talks in the select your character menu. I want to know if this is normal or it's just my disc. The disc is in a good condition.
This was one of my favorite games for the GC whit its sequel, Sonic adventure 2: Battle.
The "Little Monsters" are called chao, and I love the fact that you are starting to review Sonic games, I love all of your reviews too, though, especially RED FACTION! I got it yesterday, it's "10,000 pounds of pure awesome!"
i bought this game for my ps3 yesterday for a very cheap price of 4,45 euros.
know what?is one of the most enjoyable games that ive ever played in my life time.
this game brings me so many great memories..
i finally get to play it again!!! i absolutely loved it before
I actually like Big. Don't judge me.😂😂
yay! Another Dreamcast review!
Of course I loved the game. Sonic's first jump into 3D was a blast!
Wow, I didn't realize how much better looking DX is compared to the original until now.
i was waiting for so long for this... and after all that time... i like it! it came out originally in 98 , in japan =P
I used to do that when I was younger (I don't do that anymore).
I miss this, my dreamcast wont read disks anymore :(
this is the firs video game i ever played, and i play it untill this verry day, it is what introduced me into video games, AWSOME GAME, FAVORITE GAME OF ALL TIME!
Oh the memories
The only things i remember about this game was i was lost the entire time. You could play as a giant cat thing looking for a little frog, and the little chaos creatures that i never figured out how to make.
@Zepthire I don't know, but I would like more of them. hehe
I loved this game and still do. It's a pity that it didn't hold up very well against the test of time, but it's still great.
Chao Garden is amazingly addicting! I spent hours and hours in that thing, on the DX version, and SA2:B (I played them on the Gamecube, as I sadly never had a Dreamcast).
@chrispen9 The remake has enhanced graphics and some minor differences. The PSN/XBLA version is essentially the Sonic Adventure DX that was released on the Gamecube.
I only playing the full game one time and I have to play it again
look forward to the xbox 360 review :) i have all the sonic adventure versions including the DC one, and DX on the gamecube, not sure if i want the PSN version yet though, and i agree mark, the camera angles in this game can be horrendous lol
One of THE best sonic game without doubt, PERIOD!.
i just have this on Gamecube. Hopefully I will get it on Dreamcast someday.
favorite game of all time.
that is why I love ClassicGameRoom. he explains his honest opinion without sparking controversy, after he expresses his opinion he gives recommendations to people who would probably want to play it. Unlike a certain guy with long hair who likes ocarina of time (sry to have to do this to you Derrick, your kool, but you spark way to much controversy.
So awesome that it come out on the xbox acarde cant wait to buy it
i'd like to give you a beer toast to the best sonic adventure review evah
There's also a port of the game on the Gamecube. It has updated graphics, extra missions and some extra unlockables like various Gamegear sonic games and it tightens up the controls a bit. If you have a Wii or Gamecube, that's a good one to buy too.
despite all the flaws, the game has a huge variety gamestyles and the first level is legendary
Was hooked on this. I love it when Sonic dies and he says 'No!' it made it easier to handle
@EkajTheSwordsman I agree about replaying the levels, but not once has a Sonic game ever felt like an arcade game to me (and I have played many, many arcades). Then again, if we wanted to argue about this, we'd have to analyze what an arcade game is supposed to be and what distinguishes it from consoles, both physically and philosophically.
I bought a Dreamcast yesterday, sadly the laser on it is melted but I'm working on fixing it. Once I get it fixed I'm gonna get this and Sonic Adventure 2. I have them on the gamecube but I want to have the original versions.
Gotta say, it's videos like this why I love Mark so much, he gives unbiased opinions and ones that don't feel rushed, unlike IGN with their WHOPPING one paragraph review of this game on the XBL/PSN (no, seriously), comparing graphics and gameplay to today's standards for...some reason...and giving the game a low score, surprise, surprise....
i've only played sonic adventure 2(and loved it) maybe i'll pick this up.
Dreamcast was soo cool when first reelased.
