The Alpha games are my fave Street Fighter titles of all time (even more than SF2: Hyper Fighting and SSF2 Turbo). SFA2 & 3 get regular play in both my Saturn and DC. I totally agree with u about the DC controller being awkward for fighting games. I use the Agetec stick for DC fighters and the Virtua Stick for Saturn brawlers. The Saturn has a nice pad (S Controller) which at least gives u some viable options for beat 'em ups, but when it comes to fighters the Dreamcast pad is as unwieldly to use as the Gamecube's.
there is no reason to choose the saturn version (not bad at all) if you can pick up this one, dreamcast was a perfect 1:1 arcade home machine, plus alpha 3 for dreamcast has lot more features.
JayClay Unfortunately the Dreamcast port was not arcade perfect (Saturn port had more animations) and there are a lot of players out there who prefer the Saturn D-Pad ;-) Check out Game Sacks comparison video.
iPLAY SEGA!! The DC version is excellent. It used only a small amount of Dreamcast's memory output. The Saturn was arcade perfect. But the port came at the end of its life in Japan with the 4MB cart. All PS1 2D Arcade ports are SHIT. And people are DUMB for playing them and preferring them over Dreamcast. Seriously, who the hell would prefer low end ports over co-op?
lightsouthaha The Dreamcast version has faster framespeeds, more colors, more balanced controls than the Saturn version. The Saturn version is 100X times superior to the crappy low quality PS1 version, it has better animation, faster speed, more colors, faster load times. Compared to the DC version, the Saturn version has slightly more animations(hence the required 4MB RAM Cart).
Saturn really only suffers from the lack of transparency, but in return they took advantage of that and gave the port a more arcade-esque appearance since the original used faux transparency as well so it makes for the perfect arcade port especially given the extra animations it shares with it and the Saturn's fighting pad is far superior. Not only do they have an actual arcade stick peripheral available, but their own controller still has a six-button layout so it's unarguably more easier to play. Hell, their controller has two extra buttons so you can use taunts and fight with all the punches and kicks. Oh, the D-Pad; that is actually the most important part of the game. And again, the Saturn triumphs for using the classic SEGA D-Pad for the last time, and for a game like Street Fighter it is PERFECT for executing combos. Though my personal favorite is using the 3D pad due to it having buttons that are evenly convex, nicer triggers, comfortable grip and a flexible D-Pad. Their 3D pad is basically the Dreamcast's pad but with more buttons and comfort. Their joystick even feels nicer, for the games that did use it; mostly due to it being concave so your finger stays on it. Overall, despite the high price I would recommend buying the Saturn port. And I would hurry on that too, because prices might inflate again soon and within a few more years it could reach the range of Hyper Duel! So do not miss out on adding this to your collection, for it is probably the best Street Fighter in the whole franchise and it's arcade perfect. The only other system that did it just as well was the final port on the PSP, and you could hook that thing up to your TV with component so I guess it would look better too. However, the pad on that thing is weak and two-player is impossible unless someone else owns the game and a PSP themselves.
Well yeah the saturn controller is the best fight pad ever. They have a dream cast adapter for saturn to dreamcast you know. Also they had a PS2 version of the saturn pad and a PC version. The PC version works on the PS3 also.
mrdante361 1) Dreamcast Adapter is really expensive. 2) Extremely rare, thus really expensive too. 3) Probably not that good; RetroLink BUTCHERED the N64 D-Pad with its tightness and for fighting games it's impossible, I imagine the Saturn D-Pad suffered a similar fate.
What is retrolink? I have 4 saturn to dreamcast adapters and they were like 10 bucks back then. All the saturn usb pads I own are originals with Sega logo and are from SLS. They are perfect controllers I bought 20 of them a few years back in double packs off Ebay. I gave them to friends for street fighter IV and have back ups in case anything happens.
The Dreamcast is the same generation as the PS2. The Sega Saturn was way ahead of its time. It was not popular in europe and usa, but for me it has a lot of games that are outstanding. Checkout the videos here on youtube about the Sega Saturn. InecomCompany had made a whole week about Saturn games, check his videos too!
You should buy a Dreamcast no matter what. I was in past also focused on Ps consoles, but because i don't know the big game library of the dreamcast and previous sega consoles. The Dreamcast is the best Console is its generation for me. Even better than the Gamcube
There were a lot of great DC games that sadly were never re-release (Power Stone 1-2, Plasma Sword, Project Justice, Cannon Spike, and Giga-Wing 1-2). Strange but most of them were Capcom games.
That's fine but Power Stone 2 is one of those multi-players that's best when played with buddies in the same room instead of strangers online. You could play it online but that would rob it of the Arcade-like experience it offers.
I used to own this for the DC and it was beautiful. Agree about the DC controller - half the time I'd try to walk back or forward I'd end up jumping in those directions.
This is still one of my favorite fighting games (though I have the PS1 version). Mostly due to World Tour. They should put that in Super Ultra Street Fighter 4: Omega Edition
SFA3 is my most favorite SF game! Love the World Tour mode and the Dreamcast version was the BEST! Especially with the Ascii Fighter Pad FT controllers! Sweet sweet SF goodness!
Capcom should of continue making games for the Dreamcast, it was a great system, but Sega gaved up the battle very soon, also it was expensive to make.
Street Fighter Alpha 3 was a terrific fighting game of cartoon-like sprites duking it out. This game ported well to the PSP handheld for fun mobile punch-outs.
This is the ultimate version of SFA3. I owned it yrs ago. I plan to get a Dreamcast system and games again. The only issue I had with this version was with the controller. I always wished I could use my Sega Saturn six button controller with it.
@Destroyificator I stand corrected. That being said, at least Capcom didn't re-release/upgrade any of the Alpha series in the arcade. Throughout most of the 1990's, Capcom kept rehashing the same six or seven games. So my inaccuracy is at least understandable. :)
games like this, marvel vs capcom 2, power stone 1+2, tech romancer, giga wing 1+2, street fighter III: 3rd strike, gunbird 2, and a ton of others make it worthwhile investing in a pc with a little more 'whazzamm' for your mame cabinet, mame is great, but the dreamcast basically took what made arcade games awesome, and enhanced their visuals and audio beyond epic, and added tons of new modes and extra content
To be honest Capcom always has made a great coding job, when Street Fighter came out, there was a huge difference between Arcade games and Home console games, like day and night, and they did such an awesome job porting it to a lot of 16 bit consoles.. you didn't miss that much while playing it at home.. obviously the controller and that stuff, but unlike other game ports of the era, that one actually felt like if you where playing the same game at home and in the arcades.
I see there's an adapter that allows you to use your Saturn controllers on the Dreamcast. It's called Total Control 3, costs around $20. My hands cramp up at the thought of using a DC joypad for Capcom fighters, so this is a godsend. Good Lord, there are so many good fighting games on Saturn and DC.
Do you only get one chance at Bison in Arcade Mode? In the arcade version of SFA3, if you lost to Bison you automatically got Bison's ending and then a game over.
The only version to retain the arcade's 1 credit rule against Bison, was the PS2 version due to it being an emulation of the arcade game. All other ports allow infinite continues against Bison.
GR8 GAME!The SEGA Saturn version was better though,it was called ZERO 3 'cause it was only released in Japan. At the time it was the most arcade perfect game I'd ever played! The Dreamcast version was awesome to with the online mode!
The soundtrack was the weakest part of this game. By the way, having played both the DC and the PS1 versions of SFA3 I have to say that they look fairly similar on both systems. If you're looking for a truly beautiful Street Fighter game on the DC that makes great use of the system's capabilities, it's Street Fighter 3: Third Strike all the way.
I love that they brought the Zero/Alpha series to the PSN, butt I have a hard time playing it because I have to use the d-pad. Does anyone know how to use the stick buttons or has the same problems?
@BlayzedBlue I know this version of SFA3 doesn't have online versus mode but there is another version (Japan only) of this game with the legend "For Matching Service" that is playable online (or was). Same for the other Capcom fighting games with the "For Matching Service" label like Vampire Chronicle and SSFIIX. Of course, this was only in Japan.
everyone has got their own fav version of street fighter mine is this one on Sega Dreamcast. i liked the whole double character on screen thing it made for a good co-op system and multi player
@Koops2245 I think its, (first to last in storyline) Street Fighter, Street Fighter Alpha Series, Street Fighter 2 Series, Street Fighter 4 Series, and Street Fighter 3: Third Strike
It feels good to hear another opinion of the controller because it's that terrible. I rarely get frustrated with a PS3-controller because you actually do the moves you want. But with the Dreamcast I feel lucky when I get the moves out one time out of five. It's also an art to walk without jumping or switch Gen's fighting styles by pressing all three punchs or kicks. Maybe I get this on the PS1, sigh.
The SATURN version of this, which was only a Jap' release so was called 'ZERO 3 was my favourite 2d fighter on the SATURN which is saying something because all of CAPCOMS SATURN fighters were awesome.
That is awesome how, he had another version of this video, but he said Cody was from a SNK game, but he corrected it in this one, by saying he is a Final Fight character.
Cyclops"Hey Chun-li I swah you at the tunement...I mean tournament, tournament- I saw you there and... I just noticed your incredible hands. Don't take this the wrong way but let's shake hands, sometime, anytime. Nothing complicated. We don't have to make this a thing but I really want to shake you hand! What do you say?"
the reason why its called street fighter zero/alpha is because it is a prequel storywise of the events in sf2 hence the word alpha (beginning) p.s. however chronologically its in between 1 and 2 so 1.5 wouldve sounded smarter but zero/alpha sounds cooler :)
Saturn version is superb! Besides it's sound compression it suffers ... perfect fighter. My favorite fighter of all time on... the Saturn! But! Alpha 3 on the dreamcast is nice! Hit boxes r kind of off, the survival 10, 20, 30, 50 matches have 2 different opponents not 2 of the same fighters like the Saturn version, no reverse dramatic battle mode ( saturn exclusively does! ) a better version of the psx port depending on how you look at it... it's not arcade perfect though. Only the Saturn version and the ps2 (alpha anthologies) versions are arcade perfect. Down to T hawks backwards walking animation
@orionpax55 This is the third version of the "Street Fighter Alpha" series. The original "Street Fighter" series is on "Street Fighter IV" (with its Super version now and the Super Arcade Edition upgrade later)
@GamerX89X I don't even think alpha 3 and third strike is even comparable, third strike is Literally IMO better in every aspect, graphics, music[obviously] character voices are a tie, better story line, MUCH better character[tired of the same old tired cast] a MUCH better less broken combo system, third strike all around required more skill.
@Terramax ok i see your point.. but still.. this is the definet version of street fighter zero 3 i think its worth it... in any case suppose i was willing to donate to you guys to review how long would it take to get it back???
im going to get this game!!! my question is what would u guys recommend? a ps1 copy and play it on my ps3 comfortly, wireless!, and of course nice controller for fighting games...or i got a dreamcast and can get it for it instead! i pros i see for dreamcast is better graphics compared to ps1 and better port i believe........what u guys think?
3rd Strike is all you need. Alpha 3 was always that game you'd play on the multicade of your college campus when you couldn't find a 3rd Strike cabinet.
@zangetsue5150 Makoto,Yun,Yang,Ibuki.. It's actually four. And if you count the other three [ryu, ken, gouki, chun li] then it turns to eight. And people prefer old things over new things. People prefer old rock over new rock, old rap over new rap, old tv shows over new tv shows.

@delli2011 not necessarily as this and Street Fighter 3rd Strike are arguably the best street fighting games ever made. I usually prefer Alpha 3 over 3rd Strike, but then again the parry system in 3rd Strike is sooooo awesome.
Dreamcast versions are always better but I don't like the triggers for fighting games. Marvel vs Capcom is okay though. Also I still play my Dreamcast today, FUNKING Awesome
The Alpha games are my fave Street Fighter titles of all time (even more than SF2: Hyper Fighting and SSF2 Turbo). SFA2 & 3 get regular play in both my Saturn and DC. Not just a fantastic fighting game but also one of the best games ever made(to me)!
SFA3 was the pinnacle of my SF career.
oh and btw: The Dreamcast is not comparable to the PS1. Because the DC is one generation ahead. The Sega Saturn is the same generation as the Ps1
Still the best Street Fighter game IMO.
EnforcerX71 easy the best, and now can play on PS4 🙏
Obviously you've never played SF The Movie...
Yeah, the alpha series of games beats out any of the Street Fighter 2 games! Such an upgrade!
Probably still the best Street Fighter.
The Dreamcast version was really good but i prefer the Saturn version.
there is no reason to choose the saturn version (not bad at all) if you can pick up this one, dreamcast was a perfect 1:1 arcade home machine, plus alpha 3 for dreamcast has lot more features.

The dreamcast version was so much better than the playstation version.
yes looks better than psx version but not compared to the sega saturn port which this looks amazing with the 4Mb ram cart
I have Max on the PSP, it's probably the best version.
@@caligoclarus Max is FANTASTIC. Content wise it's definitely the best version.
@@jediknightgeo I have it on PS Store now and can play it on TV with my PS TV console. It's pretty nice. Player 2 can use the PSP as a controller.
I had it on my PS2 it's like Arcade perfect
Dreamcast ruled.

Impressive! every time i log in to youtube this guy has a new game review!!! How in the world does he do that????!!!
@Theriot6592 You got it. Street fighter EX/EXplusAlpha.
You should buy a Dreamcast no matter what. I was in past also focused on Ps consoles, but because i don't know the big game library of the dreamcast and previous sega consoles. The Dreamcast is the best Console is its generation for me. Even better than the Gamcube
Since they may never release the Dreamcast again, it would be kosher to make the Dreamcast Classic Mini.
There were a lot of great DC games that sadly were never re-release (Power Stone 1-2, Plasma Sword, Project Justice, Cannon Spike, and Giga-Wing 1-2). Strange but most of them were Capcom games.
wdcain1 power stone 1 and 2 got a psp re release

Ken, Ryu, Fei Long and Chun-Li have always been my favorite characters
Its really amazing to see all the potential the Sega DreamCast had.
This game is also on the PSP. Has an added character. You can download it from the PSPstore thing for like 10 bucks or something.

Street fighter 3: 3rd strike ( The REAL st fighter) is the best street fighter game hands down. PARRY FTW

Second game I have ever played, One of the best Street Fighters ever made.

another great review from a one game a day sort of reviewer
I love that they brought the Zero/Alpha series to the PSN, butt I have a hard time playing it because I have to use the d-pad. Does anyone know how to use the stick buttons or has the same problems?

This is my favorite Street Fighter game, damn the full roster of the final version is awesome, i miss R. Mika and some of the other characters in SF4.
I always wanted to get a Dreamcast just for this game because it's so much better than the PS1 port!
Hands down the best Street Fighter gane of all time.
Why was this video re-uploaded??
why capcom didnt made a remake of the first street fighter?
Cody joining the SF roster in this game drew me in. The fighting kept me in.
Is this worth owning if you have third strike, fatal fury, MvsC, for Dreamcast
Of course and the dreamcast version is one of the best ports
everyone has got their own fav version of street fighter mine is this one on Sega Dreamcast. i liked the whole double character on screen thing it made for a good co-op system and multi player
this and third strike are my favorite SF games of all. the third time's the charm...for the second time.
cool i was just playing this exact game on Dreamcast yesterday ! :)
@Koops2245 I think its, (first to last in storyline) Street Fighter, Street Fighter Alpha Series, Street Fighter 2 Series, Street Fighter 4 Series, and Street Fighter 3: Third Strike

@CabooseAzul it was supposed to be out last year but they released mvc 2 instead
@Feilanna its not a remake actually alpha is set in a time before the first street fighter
My favorite Street Fighter Game!
This and MVC II are stunning games on the DC.
The SATURN version of this, which was only a Jap' release so was called 'ZERO 3 was my favourite 2d fighter on the SATURN which is saying something because all of CAPCOMS SATURN fighters were awesome.
I sure am glad I have a DC Agetec stick, modded by myself aswell.
That is awesome how, he had another version of this video, but he said Cody was from a SNK game, but he corrected it in this one, by saying he is a Final Fight character.
Did they even sell fighting sticks for the dc?
I miss this game so much...
this is such a good game, i just got the max version for psp and it kicks ass
This and Smash Pack were the only games I ever managed to get working on my dreamcasts (I bought 3 of them during the 2000's)

I feel like this is one of the more underappreciated street fighter games out there.
I'm amazed that you haven't run out of Street Fighter games yet o.O

@Progearspec Cheers for the info. I will try that when I buy another DC and SFA3
@SkyMaro no that scot pilgrim K.O is from this game, =)
@FOOLZSTUDIOS It is on psn as a psone classic
I remember Shin Akuma being a beast in this game.
@orionpax55 This is the third version of the "Street Fighter Alpha" series. The original "Street Fighter" series is on "Street Fighter IV" (with its Super version now and the Super Arcade Edition upgrade later)
Fighting games today can't beat the oldschool capcom classics.
Third Strike, Alpha 2/3 (2 was wayyy better), Marve vs Capcom 2, Super Turbo
so I just recently saw the old Street Fighter live action movie.
I don't care what anybody else says, it was awesome.
No.
Hell yeah! Robot beer and Alien women to CGR Party!
My favorite street fighter game!
Because of the great roster, I always felt Capcom should port this game to XBLA/PSN & add online versus.
I love the alpha series.
I had this on the PSP... Never knew it was also on this system o.o.. cool
@GamerMGO yeah but its not ON SCREEN
@GamerX89X I don't even think alpha 3 and third strike is even comparable, third strike is Literally IMO better in every aspect, graphics, music[obviously] character voices are a tie, better story line, MUCH better character[tired of the same old tired cast] a MUCH better less broken combo system, third strike all around required more skill.

ok i see your point.. but still.. this is the definet version of street fighter zero 3
i think its worth it...
in any case suppose i was willing to donate to you guys to review how long would it take to get it back???
im going to get this game!!! my question is what would u guys recommend? a ps1 copy and play it on my ps3 comfortly, wireless!, and of course nice controller for fighting games...or i got a dreamcast and can get it for it instead! i pros i see for dreamcast is better graphics compared to ps1 and better port i believe........what u guys think?

we want Zero/Alpha 4 !
Dreamcast has awesome fighting games, I love my copy of marvel vs capcom
@zangetsue5150 Makoto,Yun,Yang,Ibuki..
It's actually four.
And if you count the other three [ryu, ken, gouki, chun li] then it turns to eight.
And people prefer old things over new things.
People prefer old rock over new rock, old rap over new rap, old tv shows over new tv shows.
@bildo1977 "...at least Capcom didn't re-release/upgrade any of the Alpha series in the arcade."
That's also wrong. In the arcade alone, there was "Street Fighter Zero 2 Dash" and "Street Fighter Zero 3 Upper".
This was the first street fighter that I ever owned and ever since ive been dissapointed from the lack of more "world tour" modes.
@delli2011 not necessarily as this and Street Fighter 3rd Strike are arguably the best street fighting games ever made. I usually prefer Alpha 3 over 3rd Strike, but then again the parry system in 3rd Strike is sooooo awesome.
didn't talk about the best part of the game, dramatic battle were p1 p2 vs. p3 p4 or p1 p2 vs. p3 was sooooo awesome
The PSP version was the last version of this game. And the best
Dreamcast versions are always better but I don't like the triggers for fighting games. Marvel vs Capcom is okay though.
Also I still play my Dreamcast today, FUNKING Awesome
@endauthority They're still fights, and fights you can have on your own time.
