  • Amazon Original "Divorce in the Black" is a Tyler Perry film starring Meagan Good and Cory Hardrict as a married couple on the brink of divorce. Ava (played by Meagan Good) is a successful bank professional who seems determined to fight for the marriage, while Dallas (played by Cory Hardrict) appears to be the one pushing for the split. The film explores their troubled relationship and the events that lead them to a unique "divorce in the dark" retreat, where they're forced to confront their issues without the distractions of the modern world.

They went overboard to make Cory's character unlikeable. The scene with Cory's character's family in the beginning was unreal, I was like "What am I watching right now??" Tyler needs a kick in the ass for that scene. The movie did get better as it progressed, I guess. Benji & Ava👀

My friend and I had the same reaction too. "What the hell am I watching." 😂 I just can't help but wonder if TP really thinks his audience can relate to something like that and become emotionally interested. I told my friend that only TP could have such a scene as that and be dead ass serious about it too. Anyone else and that would have been a comical and entertaining bit. TP definitely has one thing going for him, he's consistent. But I digress. We all gonna keep hitting play when TP drops something new, it's just a matter of time 🤣

It does happen all the time, what I found to be unrealistic was that this woman had 2 loving parents, a great childhood and a great relationship with her father, who as he mentioned to her showed her how a man is supposed to teach a woman.. it's far-fetch to believe that she would endure the abuse from this man when she was never shown that type of hostile environment, and if I'm being honest the part of the movie that frustrated me the most was when Ava and Rona were talking at the bank after Dallas left and Ava says to Rona " what does he have? He has nothing" I was just over it. You mean to tell me despite having a strong relationship with your father and being shown the proper way to be loved by a man, you allow a man to physically and verbally abused you, but beyond that you allow a man with nothing to do these things to you? Because we know that her parents gave her the down payment money to buy a house. Makes no sense! A woman with low self-esteem, with Daddy issues, a woman who comes from a broken or dysfunctional home I can understand that but not Ava

The only realistic acting was from the "best friend". She's the only one that had some sort of "real emotion" and for good reason. Corey was overly evil and not even good at it. And Meagan, well sometimes she comes off as wanting to look pretty instead of digging deep as an actress. Man, the shit I could do if I had Tyler's budget... Maybe that's it. Maybe his money has blinded his creativity.

1.Unpopular Opinion: Tyler Perry needs to have Diverse in his films, he needs to add some White Actors|Actresses or Latina Actors… like Meryl Streep, Robert De Niro, Steve Martin, Johnny Depp or even Jim Carrey. Do something Different!
    2. Meagan And Cory’s Marriage did not seem convincing or believable.
    3. Cory is a Great Actor and I see him going really far Acting Wise. I could see him getting an Oscar for a Role in a really really great movie.
    4. Meagan Goods Character did not Challenge Cory’s Character enough to make the situation believable. I think Cory’s Wife should have been Regina King or a black actress that will match his energy because Megan Good was not believable at all.
Overall, I love that Tyler Perry has Black people in his films but it’s time to shake the table and do something different, out of the norm different, Something that will make the audience Clutch their Pearls lol

Tyler Perry is trying to give black actors work. I don't care if he has all black cast. Those white actors that you named wouldn't be caught doing a Tyler Perry movie. I say, if the script needs a white character Tyler should hire them. If the script does not, Tyler should continue to hire black actors because many black actors are not getting good roles in Hollywood.

I thought it was fairly predictable. Going back to "Diary of a Mad Black Woman" there is always the (abusive husband) and the "nice guy" who becomes the wife's shoulder to cry on. The same storyline is in Madea's Family Reunion with Blair Underwood.
