Just found your channel. You do a nice job on the videos and the reviews. I have had one of these for about a year and it has been an excellent gun. Your point about it being a great choice for beginners is well taken. My wife hasn’t shot much but she finds this gun very comfortable to shoot and she shoots it very well. I own a S&W 640, a Ruger LCR, a Ruger SP-101, and a Taurus 605. I love them all, but I would not recommend any of them as a self defense weapon for a new shooter. J-frame revolvers are weapons for experienced shooters. They are great guns for those who have had lots of training and/or experience.

Taurus 605 is excellent personal protection pistol especially with the 38+P rounds. Affordable and accurate pistol highly recommend for especially for beginner.
Today, I picked up a Taurus 605. It’s my first revolver. I want to get the Taurus Judge TORO and the Taurus Judge Home Defender. Thank you for the review. It was my first time seeing one of your videos. I just subscribed. 🇺🇸
Just picked up my first handgun a SS 856 .38, the 605 was taken off the roster recently in CA, so the 38 was my only option, so far I like it a lot & it feels great in my hand & affordable. I feel Taurus semi autos gets a lot of slack but the revolvers seems to be pretty solid...I might upgrade the grips and to lower power springs in the future
I've only had issues with one Taurus semi auto, the Spectrum, all of my others have been just fine. I hope to do a video on the Taurus 942 revolver in .22mag this weekend, I hope you'll be watching!
@@beefcake6324 I carry mine in a sticky holster and I usually wear slightly baggy pants so it fits great. The holster protects the trigger and makes it look like a wallet in my front pocket.
It’s my favorite handgun besides my Glock 30 my first gun was a605 with the transfer bar safety and a heavy trigger I’ve never used a holster when pocket carrying as long as there’s nothing else in that pocket
I have a black version and love it. Much more accurate than you would expect. I think that's partly because of the stainless barrel sleeve construction. I have a Kydex IWB that allows the revolver to sit down into the pants well - the way I like.
I just bought the 605 Poly-Defender with 2 inch, and 357 is almost too much of a handful for the light weight. I also bought the 605 Defender in steel with 3 inch pipe. The extra weight is a huge bonus for controlling the 357 loads. I'm thinking my girlfriend will end up with the Poly and I'll use the 3 inch, and run 38 in both for everyday carry, that way either of us can grab whichever is closest and use it well. There are some crowds that find a wheelgun to be much less intimidating if they happen to see it. But we will still carry our Taurus 9's for most other applications. Good review!
I was wanting to pick up a poly 605 but was thinking the same thing, there's just not much weight there to eat up any recoil. The .38's will definitely help. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching too!
Wolff sells a Taurus Mod 85 spring kit that can really lighten up trigger pulls. I replaced the trigger spring and mainspring and that made a huge difference. I later went back to the factory mainspring as I think it probably would have led to some light primer strikes. I never did test it however. After the full mod, the DA pull was buttery smooth and very light. The SA was scary light but it broke like glass. Even with just the trigger spring upgrade, it makes a pretty noticeable difference in pull weight. I may go back to the lighter weight and try out my PDX 357MAG ammo to see if there are any problems.
I’ve had mine for 3 or 4 years with absolutely no issues. I have carried it my truck, but now it’s a bedside gun. I didn’t want my wife to deal with a semiautomatic if something happens when I’m not home. I keep it loaded with Hornady Critical Defense. If someone breaks into our house it’s going to be a bad day for them.
I got one I enjoy it very much carry it a lot. With that said if you need parts or service it can take 6-12 months to get them. I sent mine in to get fixed on October and received it late March! Before any covid hit. I’ve talked to people who where waiting 14 plus months for just parts. I am a fan of the 605 however I will not buy another Taurus product. Customer service is horrible at best. Buy a smith or ruger
I know someone that sent a Spectrum back, it took several months as well. The new President of Taurus says he'll fix the customer service issues, I hope I never have to use it!
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview I had to have some work done on my 605. My local gunsmith warned me the parts were notoriously slow to get, but by some miracle, I had it back in three weeks.
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview I have heard rumor that Taurus subsidized with another company recently which is also subsidized by Smith&Wesson. Again just rumor no solid proof on my statement.
As long as it doesn't smack me in the head or break my wrists, I love recoil! I would not recommend one handing a 454 Casull revolver! I think you'll like the 605. Thanks for watching!
Bought an 85 for my wife years ago. Loved that revolver! Bought the 605 for my girlfriend and I love that even more!! The trigger was too heavy for her so I got a kit. Now its butter smooth. I know when I've got .357 in it, but it's manageable. Haven't tried the .38 plus P. Ill give it a go and see.....!
I have not shot an 85 but many years ago I ran a shoebox full of .38s through a 65, great shooting gun. I like the 605, it's a good shooter and easy to conceal too. The 942 is the same frame as the 605 but chambered in 22lr or .22mag with 8 round capacity. Thanks for watching!
Try some Remington jacketed hollow points in 158 grain in that pistol on i own the same gun it feels like those little rubber grips is ripping the Palm out of your hand the gun is gentle with Winchester white box 110 grain jacketed Hallow points though
For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Those heavier bullets will definitely be felt in this little gun! I like using the lighter stuff for plinking but the self defense stuff is great if you ever need it. Thanks for watching!
Newly picked up a 605 .357 poly performance for only $250 due to the Cylinder taking some light pressure to open and was missing the fiber optic sight. But picked up quick strips and a kydex holster and small grip and fiber optic sight for under $50 on eBay. This is my backup ankle gun and short distance gun. .38 hornaday critical defense for now maybe .357 HP. You ever thought about using .357 and .38 in the same cylinder for a CCarry. Great video btw
Sounds like a pretty good deal. For carry, I think I'd just go with the .357s. I don't really see where mixing .38s and .357s has any benefit. It's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching too!
I cross my thumbs over the backstrap to mitigate recoil on small revolvers. Learned this when qualifying w/my off duty S&W J Frame in 1968 and employed it ever since. My EDC is a 340PD, which is a handfull even w/+P, and this really helps. I used a speedloader in a 1974 gunfight & it really saved my butt. Good shooting by the way.
Thanks! I trained with speed loaders many years ago and I really became a fan of them. I'll have to try the crossed thumbs technique some day. Thanks for the tip and thanks for watching!
I found an older Charter Arms 357 snubby in a pawn shop today. The blueing is in beautiful condition, as are the blond-ish wood grips. Its got what looks like an adjustable rear sight and a plain front blade that would need some nail polish or paint. It has the exposed ejector rod. The price is good, but I didn't have with me the gun I would trade for it. Guess I'll cry if its not there when I can go again Friday.
I have missed out on deals because I wasn't prepared, It happens. I still haven't learned my lesson though. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Good luck and thanks for watching!
Beautiful tool I have one blued very nice straight shooter keep up the good work also is there any way can you do a video on a model 65 please Taurus 4 inch barrel have a blessed day sir
I don't currently own a Model 65 but I have plans to pick one up some day, that's the last gun that my Dad and I did a little bonding with. A shoebox full of .38s and an old metal sign out in the back yard, more than 30 years ago.
I agree. And I would add The Taurus all steel 856 as well. It's a 38 +P and not .357 Mag but really, most people aren't going to want to shoot much .357 Mag out of these anyway because it's a handful. But the 856 gives you 6 shots instead of 5. Having said that, I have the 605 and love it. And yes, I carry +P+ 38 Special handloads because I might have to deploy this in confined spaces and the .357 Mag's muzzle blast is brutal - likely to cause your ear drums to detach which I personally do not want.... thanks for the vid!
It does not come in a bobbed hammer version you'll have to take it to a gunsmith and have it bobbed. I had mine bobbed and love it. Why do I like these Taurus 'revolvers better then my Smiths, Ruger's, and Colts , I don't know, I just love the smoothness of the Taurus revolvers. Thanks for sharing.
357 magnum shells stick when you have been shooting 38 specials. The longer 357 shells get stuck on the carbon ring from the 38 firings. You have to get a good brass brush and solvent and scrub each cylinder clean.
Nice Wheel gun Richard, I like Taurus, makes me wish I still had my Ruger Speed Six, 6shot .357 Magnum, W/3" Bull Barrel in S.S. it's a great Gun with many power options, .38spl.38 spl+P, .38 spl +P+ and .357 Magnum. I used Remington 125gr SJHP but it had Tremendous Muzzle Blast, It was like popping a flashbulb in you face! Thanks for for the video. 🇺🇸
I have one and it's pretty nice but I wouldn't recommend anything in a .357 for beginners. I guess the beginner could start with .38's in it and get comfortable with that first. That rubber grip bites after some serious shooting with .357 in it :)
That's the nice thing about this revolver, you can start with .38 and you won't need to buy another when you're ready to move up to .357. Thanks for watching!
Just had this revolver at the range on Friday, and yeah, the 357 mags pack a punch in this thing for sure... I had trouble with the speed loaders as well, being the cylinder is so close to the frame.
There are some speedloaders on Taurus' website that are made of aluminum and of a little different design, I think they may be a little better for this little revolver.
Interesting you recommend this for beginners. I have 9s and 22s, will soon get a 38 Charter Arms Off Duty, but I also yearn for a true one shot manstopper so I’m thinking of this. But I thought I’d ask, aren’t you losing a lot of 357’s true potential (I.e. ballistics, powder burn, etc) in these snubs, vs say 3 or 4 inches? I’m also thinking of 10 mm, but the g29 and g20 is pricier, bulkier, and it’s semi auto which could be a drawback. Thanks.
Shot placement has more to do with stopping power than caliber. Yes, the short barrels loose a lot of energy and velocity, but aid in comfort and concealability. There is no perfect firearm, you just have to weigh the benefits of each. Thanks for watching!
Off all my handguns, for some reason, this is my go to EDC. My S&W Combat Magnum, and my Kimber SIS Ultra have clique up and refuse to talk to me since this Brazilian beauty came on line.
I’m 62 and since I was old enough to hold a Gun. It may be a good beginner Gun but it’s my every day carry while in town. And I have a safe full of 🔫’s 🇺🇸✌🏽👍🏽🤙🏽😎
It has more weight than most 5 shot revolvers to make it comfortable with 38 special and 38 special plus p. It can handle 357 magnum but the recoil is a bit much on the hand tho.
Always wanted one of these... 🤔 Look like they'd be fun. I wouldn't mind picking up the 9mm version either, mainly bc I load SO much if it. Cool video, thanks for the review 👍
I'd really like to pick up a S&W 625JM, they're chambered in .45ACP. I don't load much .45 but that'd give me an excuse to! I may have to look into a 9mm revolver......hmmmm.
Great video on the next one for me. Nice holster, beautiful in fact but tell me why you left the trigger well exposed? I figure you’ve got a reason that I’m not aware of.
Thanks! I usually make Western holsters for single action revolvers and those triggers are left exposed. I also saw some photos of a leather holster that was old, worn out and the leather had pushed against the trigger when it was being re-holstered. That bit of leather that was supposed to be covering the trigger, ended up pushing the trigger and shooting the owner. The holster in the photos I saw, was for a semi auto pistol. A double action revolver is going to take much more pressure to work the action, I'm pretty sure an accidental discharge while holstering won't be a problem. Trigger finger discipline with a holster like this is a must. Thanks for watching!
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview Thanks you taught me something very valuable. We make holsters also but forgot how Cisco and others shoot so fast. It is best to not mold a holster to shape around the trigger. There should be clearance of the trigger itself as it covers the trigger well.
@@2greeksandacamera I'm not saying that what I'm doing it right or wrong, I'm just saying how I do it. Ultimately it's up to the user and the care they take in the use of their weapon and holster. I have heard and seen horror stories with all kinds of holsters and many times it was user error. I enjoy making them but almost never make them for sale.
I like to save a little money when I'm just out plinking at the range. You can bet that when I'm carrying, it's full of the good stuff. Thanks for watching!

@@danthompson1467 Did you just call me "Old"??? LOL! I have some of the new stuff myself but there is a different feeling with a revolver and peace of mind is part of it!
I have two or three boxes of 38+ P the owners manual doesn’t say specifically to use this it just says 38 special but it should be OK what do you think this is a dumb question I know because it will shoot 357 but I didn’t just wanted your opinion on
If it's chambered in .357, it will handle the .38+P without any issues. The .38+P is somewhere in between a .38spcl and a .357mag. Thanks for watching!
As being a high power rifle shooter for several decades. If you want cut carbon fast try Kroil. But I suggest that you use outside and with gloves. The smell will make your wife unhappy.

love mine. I carry Buffalo bore .357 tactical and then the fbi load 38 in my speed loader. I do this because it's a lot easier to reloader quickly the shorter 38s. only problem is Alien gear doesnt make a shell for it. It'd be awesome if anyone who reads this shoots them an email and requests it.
I just bought this as my first firearm. Mine is the black poly protector. Did I make a good choice? I hear people saying that poly isn't very good. I am very new to firearms.
I think you made a good choice, I'm looking at buying one of them myself. Shooting .357s in it may be a little rough just because of the lighter weight though.
@@bobbrock4221 yeah, a little harder kick. It might not be that bad either. Start out with some .38specials first, then when you're comfortable with it, move up to the .357s.
I picked up one the other day. Im thinking about pocket carrying it for this summer. I wanted to know if you had any problems with it since this video. Thanks !
Not a single issue, this is one of my favorite modern revolvers! There is a DAO version without the hammer spur, that may be a better choice for pocket carry. It's a little snappy with .357s in it, but it's a great little pistol. Enjoy and thanks for watching!
I love it. A terrible double-action trigger pull is a "safety feature"!!! I guess if it had no double-action at all, it would be extra, super-safe, huh?!
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview No offense intended, but I have owned three, brand-new Taurus revolvers and "pretty good trigger" applied to NONE of them, not even close, nor to any Taurus revolver I have ever handled. And YOU are the person who called that heavy double-action trigger a "safety feature", so... REALLY??!! There is a reason that no one competes with Taurus DA revolvers, only S&Ws.

I've only had issues with one Taurus semi auto, the Spectrum, all of my others have been just fine. I hope to do a video on the Taurus 942 revolver in .22mag this weekend, I hope you'll be watching!
Why would California take the 605 off the roster? Why would they take something that was on the roster off? What is the logic?
@@Henry9459 ha, the logic is its California
I love the 605!
Me too! Thanks for watching!
I pocket carry my 605. My always gun.
They're pretty sweet little revolvers!
How well do they carry in front pocket?
@@beefcake6324 I carry mine in a sticky holster and I usually wear slightly baggy pants so it fits great. The holster protects the trigger and makes it look like a wallet in my front pocket.
@@beefcake6324 also slightly baggy pants makes it easier to draw if needed
It’s my favorite handgun besides my Glock 30 my first gun was a605 with the transfer bar safety and a heavy trigger I’ve never used a holster when pocket carrying as long as there’s nothing else in that pocket
Nice gun , i love mine and dont leave home without it

I can understand why. Great little revolver. Thanks for watching!
Great review! Thanks for posting!
you make great videos ........... thanks for the time you put in
I appreciate that!
Great review and love your shed/bar! 🙏🏽
Thank you! Cheers!
I have a black version and love it. Much more accurate than you would expect. I think that's partly because of the stainless barrel sleeve construction. I have a Kydex IWB that allows the revolver to sit down into the pants well - the way I like.
I have always been a fan of revolvers. Glad to hear you like yours. Thanks for watching!
great review. the 605 carried appendix is my go to. it is backed up by various pistols depending on where i'm going.
Great choice in my opinion. Thanks for watching!
It feels pretty smooth straight from the factory and I don't mind the heavy trigger pull but I'll bet the lighter trigger spring would be nice!
Good choice if you ask me! Thanks for watching.
Just bought one. In the cooling off phase at my local FFL in CA. Can't wait to pick it up and take it out to the shooting range.
Well that's a bummer! Good little revolver though. Enjoy, be safe and thank you for watching!
@@8626John Maybe they're upping their customer service game!
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview I have heard rumor that Taurus subsidized with another company recently which is also subsidized by Smith&Wesson. Again just rumor no solid proof on my statement.
I own one and it is so comfortable to carry and the option of magnums is awsome
It shoots pretty dang good too! Thanks for watching!
love my 605 I use a Veridian grip on mine, the grip gives you more to hold on too as well as the laser.
It's a great size for a CCW and plenty of power with the .357mag. I'll bet the grips do help out. Thanks for watching!
Good review, you handled the recoil without whining like I have seen on other channels HAHA. This is in my queue for my next carry gun.
As long as it doesn't smack me in the head or break my wrists, I love recoil! I would not recommend one handing a 454 Casull revolver! I think you'll like the 605. Thanks for watching!
Superb review - learned a lot. Many thanks!
Many thanks for watching!
Finally, a man that knows how to shoot a wheel gun
.lol I use mine for a back up.. thanks
Thanks for the compliment and thanks for watching too!
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview I have big hands too.
Nice video. I bought the 605 because I did not want to blow $650 on a S&W Model 60.
Yep, big price difference between the two.
Yes. The short barrel doesn't give the powder much time to burn before being released into the wild. Thanks for watching!
They now have the 650 revolver! I'm a huge fan of Taurus revolvers! Thanks for watching!
357 magnum shells stick when you have been shooting 38 specials. The longer 357 shells get stuck on the carbon ring from the 38 firings. You have to get a good brass brush and solvent and scrub each cylinder clean.
You are correct! Thanks for watching!
This one sends out quite a flame when using the .357s. They say "Wheel guns are real guns"! Thanks for watching!
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview Awesome. Thank You for the Heads Up on that!
@@ValkerieSilk you're welcome!
Yep don't use speedloaders -- use speed strips. They are rubber strips that work perfectly. With a little practice they're very fast!
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview I believe that makes sense, and is something to always keep in mind!

The Speer Short Barrel ammo is made for this gun, either 38 +P or 357 Mag ............ you can't find a better round for a 2 inch revolver

Thank you Sir!
It has more weight than most 5 shot revolvers to make it comfortable with 38 special and 38 special plus p. It can handle 357 magnum but the recoil is a bit much on the hand tho.
Yup, I agree! Thanks for watching!
In DAO and with a 3" barrel I'd be a buyer and frequent carrier with two speed loaders.

@Chris Rogers I know the feeling, I just hope my arms don't get any shorter! Lol.
