  • This Taurus 605 is a great revolver. It’s a 357 magnum so you can also shoot 38 Special from it. Have you shot one before?

    I like my 605 in matte Stainless. But it's NOT my EDC. FYI: In the 1970s, Taurus and Smith & Wesson had a licensing agreement where Taurus was authorized to manufacture and distribute revolvers based on Smith & Wesson designs. This arrangement allowed Taurus to access shared revolver technology and establish itself as a firearms manufacturer, offering consumers an alternative to Smith & Wesson's models.

    I have a 605. When I went to load it if fell apart. The yoke screw was loose from the factory and it fell apart. Taurus has sense made a polymer yoke screw that should not fall out BUT they make you pay for it. After getting it back together I had my gun smith check it out and I shot it. I liked shooting the 357 more than the 38s. Other than the yoke screw issue it is great but if it falls out in a fire fight you will likely be killed. So if you get one immediately order the polymer yoke screw or use loctite to keep it in place. When firing the metel yoke screw will loosen after about 50 rounds and yes I checked it. Not every 605 has that issue but I have spoken to Taurus about it.

    I am from the Dallas/Ft Worth area in Texas. I actually own 2 of these weapons. One is the stainless steel, the other is the protective poly finish. Found these at a gun show, no problem locating them. I was in the market for a J frame revolver for CCW and this fits the bill perfectly. I carry 38 plus p in the cylinder and 357 in my speed loader.

    Been carrying one for about 4 years now, love it. I carry it with 110gr .357 rounds. To me it feels like 38+P fired out of an air weight 642 S&W. Very manageable. I've fired 158gr .357 from it, totally different story. Those rounds pack a wallop and are difficult to shoot from such a small gun.

      @decker14626 I brought 605 at 10ft and 20ft. I shot with 158 & 180 grain and stayed within the perimeter’s hitting bullseye to head and chest 4 times. When I first shot it it was a miserable 13 shots outside target on my first day from being nervous. Second day much better going beyond 20ft might have to practice more before that. Maybe because I’m a bigger guy

    I have a 605, 85, and 605 poly. During covid my 605 has been loaded with snap caps and is my daily dry fire practice gun. I use remington green and white box .357 sjhp as my carry ammo when carrying it as my primary, along with 2 speedloaders as reloads. G&w box is a warm round, just a little hotter than .38 +p, and in mine it hits to point of aim. The 85 and 605 poly are generally carried as backups to another pistol, another revolver I carry is an naa mini, normally for cyote or other wild animal defense. Strangely, i am split dominant but favor my left side and that is the hand I shoot semi autos with better, while I shoot revolvers more naturally with my right hand. Long guns are all shot left handed. I enjoy my taurus revolvers, fortunately here in texas we are given lot of choice what we carry. If I want to carry all 4 revolvers for a double ny reload, it is legal. A more normal carry is one semi and one revolver.

    • @DCHamer-tp8ut
      @DCHamer-tp8ut  2 роки тому

    • @johngraesser4911
      @johngraesser4911 2 роки тому +2

      @@DCHamer-tp8ut the 605 poly only gets .38 +p even though it is rated for .357. As such it shoots about as well as my 85, the big downside is the lack of holsters. I carry mine in a pocket holster in my front pocket. The 85 has a dedicated fobus paddle holster, the 605 has a dedicated bianci leather holster. The grip on the poly doesn't match the one on the 85 and 605, and i find their grips match my hand perfectly.

      Me too, I ordered the Toro ( Taurus optic ready optic) variant which is just a small difference on the top between the sights for a red dot mounting option. I did opt for the stainless, 3" barrel 605 after studying the velocity chart results comparing barrel lengths to velocity + ft lb muzzle energy balance. 4" sometimes has slightly more but generally 3" is within the difference from it as to the variation between one round to the next, so basically 3" offeres the beat of everything imo. GOD bless, happy carrying.

    Straight facts 💯 . I just bought the gun, in a 3 inch barrel Toro Optic. I didnt know the Optic sight cost so damn much❗If you looking to get 1. It's cheaper to buy from a gun dealer store 💯. Now I had .357 Magnum's in the past. Up to date I clearly, forgot how mean this calibur is❗I put 200 rounds thru mine 💯. The recoil is manageable. But I forgot it kicks ass, when that bullet flies out of the barrel❗Man, I love this gun❗I don't want to feel the hit 🎯 from it❗❗I didn't like 12 pound double action trigger pull❗Wolff, hammer springs changed all that 💯. One hundred 25 grain hollow points is a precise stick recoil feel 💯. One hundred 58 grain is a stiff recoil feel 💯. Still manageable to shoot 💯. Shooting tray 8's from buffalo 🦬 bore hard cast lead rounds. Gives a bang punch 👊 as well 💯. I knew, when I bought this gun. All it was going to do was curb my appetite, to buy another 1❗You guess it, a 6 inch barrel .357 Magnum is on order❗

In this case however, I would think if someone liked/wanted a Taurus snubbie and knew they were going to carry 38 specials, you might as well get the Taurus 856. good review. i carry one appendix in a bulldog holster, also, and forget it's there. the cheap nylon holster does get wet from sweat in the summer and causes the stainless steel to rust a little. i carry .357, though, as i carry 38+p in my 85. the 357 is manageable and i shoot the 605 better than my sp101 and it has a shorter barrel which is more comfortable to carry. taurus and rossi were two totally different companies until taurus bought the rights to produce the rossi revolvers. the rossi has the firing pin on the hammer as opposed to the transfer bar system deployed by taurus. the same company owned both taurus and smith & wesson at one time a few years back and they supposedly shared ideas. anyway, good review of a good gun.

    I have a 605 as well and consider it a .38S + P chambered in .357mag, because if you look at the forcing cone, it is a bit on the thin side, and cannot handle a consistent diet of .357mag, however, if you get their Raging Hunter chambered in .357mag, you can shoot nothing but magnum cartridges in it all day as it has a beefy forcing cone and cylinder. Almost as if it was meant for experimental loads. The only thing I dislike about any Taurus is that you need to completely depress the trigger to engage, unlike every other makes.

    • @DCHamer-tp8ut
      @DCHamer-tp8ut  2 роки тому

      Does that make it a heavier trigger pull than other revolvers? I don’t know revolvers enough to compare what you’re talking about completely depressing the trigger.

    • @crusiethmaximuss
      @crusiethmaximuss 2 роки тому +1

      @@DCHamer-tp8ut Not a heavier trigger, however, if you had larger hands, it basically forces you to implode your hand and screws up your break. You might break left or right opposite direction of your dominant hand. It will also pinch your skin. My solution is putting larger wood grips to full up the real estate of your palm to help mitigate the Taurus revolver trigger distance.

    Ive got the Taurus 605 defender with a Hogue grip. Ive got large hands and the Hogue grips feel good. The Trigger pull is just over 11 lbs on double action and right at 6 lbs on single. I ordered Galloway reduced trigger spring kit which should cut it down to half that which I'm looking forward to. Great gun.

    Just wanted to share, I couldn't be more pleased with the 605. What a fine revolver at a great price point. It handles so well with 38 specials and actually very wellbwith the magnum ammo. I saw the wood handgrip, that is actually inspiring me to do the same, added pinky grip will assist in managing the .357 mags. Great video!

    I have owned a 605 for over a decade. Shortly after the purchase I found that it would only fire in the single action mode, not double action. The spring bar which controls the force of the hammer was not exerting enough pressure to bust the cap while in double action mode. A simple fix involving a bolt and a nut took care of the problem. It quickly became my daily carry gun. The weight, size and balance are perfect for me. I carry 357's in it with 2 five round speed loaders in my pocket.

    No 605 for me, but I do have a model 627 4" .357 Tracker; my primary range gun... It's got about 300 rounds through it so far, and it's trigger has lightened up nicely. No issues. I also have a snub nose .44 Magnum from Taurus, which I'm still practicing with - with .44 Special (125 rounds through it so far). Great revolvers for the money, imo.

    • @carlosmorris4510

      @@DCHamer-tp8ut The kick is quite substantial with full Magnum loads - as it's unported and only weighs about 30 ounces... The shock to one's hands is significant, so I wear leather shooting gloves. I've fired five 305 grain bear loads out of it too (just to test them), and the muzzle rise is a good 6-7 inches! With .44 Special it's manageable; perhaps just a slightly stronger recoil than shooting .357 Magnum.

    I just picked one of these Taurus 605 up to carry in the woods. Reading the enclosed pamphlet, I read that they discouraged using +P rounds in this firearm. I would definitely prefer +P when carrying in the woods while hunting. I called the Taurus rep on the enclosed pamphlet. The rep explained that shooting a lot of +P ammo in 38 or 357 ammo could actually damage this firearm. I bought this with the intent of using 38 +P and I am a little concerned. Have you shot a lot of +P at the range, and have there been any problems. Disappointed in what I read in the pamphlet and heard from the rep.

Definitely agree the 38 special is the lighter of the two. But just as I finished cleaning it, and pulled the trigger a couple times, the yoke screw popped right off! I may still get one though only because it’s inexpensive and the next closes thing to a Smith Wesson. You were asking how come Smith costs so much more. Well, a Taurus revolver may look like a Smith but it ain’t a Smith. Smiths are US made while Tauruses are made in Brazil. Quality control and workmanship cost money.
