    Thanks 12voltvids! Thanks to you I was able to repair one of my 2 evs-1000e recorders. The power supply is almost the same with the same problem. Replace caps and everything works again. And I thought it was a mechanical / head problem. I had already given up.

    The ev s3000 was the best as far as transport go as was designed by Sony. They later when with the Memorex mechanism yes was designed by Memorex on the EV-S7000 and later which spindles crack and due to metal embedded in spindles. Memorex embedding a metal core with plastics not accounting for differential in expansion / contraction when the device goes to heat and cold cycle during operation, that why they fail pretty much a 100% failure rate.
    This is the one to get for transfers once capacitors replaced and alignment is done of course.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  3 роки тому

      Yes the 3000 is good. The 5000 and 7000 all have the cracked spindle issue due to the metal insert on the hub. The concept was the magnet and disk would provide the perfect tension for the take up spool. The 7000 was much more gentle on tapes than other decks and had time code as well as afm stereo sound and pcm stereo sound.

    I've messaged you in the comments about these before when you showed the other Hi8 deck with the motorised control panel (EVS7000) - this would look neat with my E80/N80ES amps.
    Amazing looking machine.

      These are good machines except the bad caps and much easier to work in than the evs7000.

      @@12voltvids If I were able to pick one up for less than £100, I would do so and attempt to fix it. Here in the UK, the capacitor plague seems not to be as harsh on equipment, but it still makes me nervous about throwing money at nostalgia.
      I did get an SLV-E1000 VHS deck *cheap* this week as a cheap birthday project - once I've gone through that I'm sure I'll have the opinion of "man VHS video is terrible." And then never use it again.

    I got a Sony TA=FA 3ES amp. Bought it new back in the day. It has a few of these bright red Elna caps in it (not the silk ones). Up until now they all test fine and the unit still works without issues.
    Maybe because I still use the unit regularly. I don't know. I will see how long it will keep going..

So, thank you for videos! I don’t need this Sony 3000 for work. I just wonder what an expert’s thoughts would be. If the customer is going to throw it out, I’ll save it for parts or something.

      @@briansexton8047 the 3000 is one of the better machines when working. Does not have the cracked gear issues that the 7000 and 5000 had. Caps need changing in TBC but other than that they are solid and have the digital PCM audio option.

    My technician role as a "maint engineer" years through the 1980s had me watching 1st hand the MASSIVE electrolytic fiasco that saw the seal around the capacitor leads to the aluminum body just was not up to it. The amount of Broadcast Studio equipment that had run only a few hours effectively and was destroyed from cap leakage juice. Studio Cameras, Sony Digibeta VTRs to daring to power down kit in the CAR ( central apparatus room) to relocate it etc would detonate their SMPS at power on. So much waste!

      I have a trv110 and 2 730. The CCD is good for about 230 lines. The tape will record about 500. The DV cameras and even hi8 were good for 500 (Hi8 tape could handle 400) . Sony crippled, whoops bad choice of words now in this PC world! Sony "limited" the capability of digital 8 because they didn't want professionals and news people using 500 cameras. So they made the picture basically on par with VHS cameras and those wanting higher quality would buy DV cameras.
