Excellent repair dave :-D, It fought you all the way. I had to laugh when you said Shhhheeeeiiiiiiit :-D What a pain in the arse that was. I hope your cat had a look and signed off your work as passed the inspection :-D
Just dug my EVS-3000 out of storage to do some archiving only to find the playback image is very dark when the TBC is on. Turn the TBC off and the image looks fantastic. I have no repair skills so I'm sending it out for service. I could fund your retirement with all of the Sony gear i have that probably needs servicing. :)
The other one is actually a better deck but no good with evaporated metal tape only metal partical due to the way the tape threads. Too much contact with the tape. Me tape too smooth. Sticks.
Hi there, I hope all is well with you. I hope you can advise me. I have the same VCR. It stops play and rewind/f.forwarding. It load the tape and the drum stop after tape loaded. Could you advise which area I can check? Thanks in advamce
Check the rotation sensors. If the rotation sensors are not providing feedback that the tape spools are turning the unit will go into an emergency shutdown
@@alanwong3980 the rotation sensors are under the take up and supply hubs. it's either going to be an optical sensor or hall effect I don't remember what type they used on that machine. What it does is it detects if the tape spool is turning or not because obviously if your take up spool where to stop turning and the capstone kept pulling tape off the supply guess where all the tape would end up? You got it inside the machine. Of course if the capstan motor is not turning at all then you like to have a problem with the capstan motor itself. When you eject the tape doesn't eat or is the tape wound back into the shell? If it's wound back into the shell then you know the capstan motor is turning.
I opened the cover. I can see when I insert the tape. It load up and drum spin then drum stop spin when loaded. No play or fast forward. Then when I press eject it eject without eating the tape. One thing very strange. After the tape load the drum stop it. It stuck not easy to turn it.
I would have to suppose no. I live on Long Island, which is one of the most humid places going and I don't feel like it has been something causing gear failure of any sort, over the years. I don't live right on the water, however.
@@RetroMechanic frequency response to 15khz only. Plus is it 2:1 compandered, using a dbx like system. If i remember it was actually 8 bit. Dat in LP mode was 12 bit 32khz. So yes it is good but not as good as dat or cd. Better than FM audio.
Remember me telling you about my emerson tv vcr combo? You thought the heads were wearing right? I am afraid you are wrong. According to the vcr king, there is a capacitor that is open that may be causing this to happen. I dont see the static flaring on the text when the heads are clogged either so the heads are fine. I HAVE NEVER HAD A FAULT LIKE THIS BEFORE EVER DAVE, I AM NOT KIDDING:( it still works but i believe a few are open because one went on 10/28/20, then the electrolytic spread to others, causing them to go bad making it worse by late November/early December 2020. This is the citizen 1997 tv vcr ALL OVER AGAIN!!!!!!!
How can i be wrong when i never saw the unit or the symptom? You asked me what could cause tearing around titles and worn heads certainly have that symptom.
@@MrChrisRP but i believe it can be fixed. Just by looking at the picture on the screen tells me it can't really be the head drum wearing. It never got that much use. I ordered it off ebay back in september 2020 for $155.32 max. With the remote and an antenna cable.
Adrian at Adrian's Digital Basement channel just had a video with bad cap causing issue. Guess which brand? haha I told him what you said about the Elnas. heh heh Around 16:50 of his latest video, MAC LC II repair attempt.
It's the year 2021. Can't they just combine the Everlasting Gobstopper and the general-use capacitor? I am not even asking for something special use. heh :)
I have been archivibg tapes for many years. Not as much in it as you think. I get small orders only. For the larger ones people generally buy equipment and dobit themselves. That's why working 8mm players go for 500. Someone buys it, uses it to convert their hundreds of tapes then sells it to the next person. I made the mistake of letting a working 8mm camera go for 100 a few years ago and the person that brought it used it, sold it then told me that they sold it for over 500 bucks. Like the guy that brought me that McIntosh dvd player. Paid me about 80 to change the belt and then came bragging that he got 1300 for it. He bought it for 100 not working. Ground me down from 100 to change the belt because he was really hurting. I ran into him driving a Bentley and he was bragging how much he was making on stuff I was fixing for him. The word here is WAS, as his stuff it sitting in a pile awaiting pick up unrepaired.
@@12voltvids Now THAT I can relate to :-) I mainly do car radios, and there was this fellow dealing with "bespoke fully restored vintage car radios" who would bring in non functional units, have me change only the bare minimum of parts to just get them going, grind me on the price because he could only mark them up a little bit more. I have an EVS2000 with no picture when playing a tape (just blue screen). I'm thinking that the head preamp board may be the fault. Any thoughts?
Yes they have bad caps in the preamp.
