Funny how people think you can dress old money to be perceived as rich. I went to a private school and you can immediately tell someone else is from a wealthy background more so with their speech, enunciation, white straight teeth, manners, overseas education, etc. Growing up my parents always focused on looking polished and well kept, which I guess is what others with money are trying to do as well, not some aesthetic to mark they are from old money
I'm all for the move towards quiet luxury. For so long 'luxury' brands have been inflating their prices yet there's been a massive decline in quality of the materials and craftsmanship. Most 'luxury' boutiques are filled to the rafters with overpriced tat emblazoned with logos. Once you cut through the savvy marketing tricks, there is nothing special about it. If the quiet luxury trend continues, a lot of these companies are going to have to up their game and actually deliver in terms of quality.
This is so very true. I'd rather buy a dooney and borke purse for 100+ dollars rather than buy a coach purse or a channel bag with a huge logo on it. I like quiet logos like Ralph Lauren.
No matter the economy I say no to logos. I was brought up by a southern mom and it was drilled into my head that less is more and you don’t need to shout with your clothes. For my mom it was all about being tasteful, she wore color but done in as she termed it “tastefully”. I think the quiet luxury thing is hilarious, because while we were far from being rich it was just the way most of the adults I grew up with dressed and I continue to do.
I do agree with being tasteful about how you dress! I do think we can take the benefit of embracing quiet luxury to have bigger access to nicer basics in our wardrobe, but when it does come to styling it, it does need to be tailored to you, whether you need a pop of colour somewhere or some either dainty, sparkly or nice gold jewellery, it really does depend on what compliments you and make you feel at your best ^^
Being "tasteful" its highly ambiguous, it's stupid to think that if you wear colors you are not being tasteful. Dear lord! This Clasist ignorant snobs.
I feel the same way. I was raised in a middle class home and my grandma dressed to the nines, she was elegant looking but she wasn't ever flashy. I also learned less is more and elegance is simplicity.
The old money people I have met tend to wear good quality classic items that are neither trendy or dated, and wear them until they fall apart- and beyond.
Absolutely! It makes me smile that women are looking to marry into "Old Money" as, like you, the people l have known from the "Landed Gentry" may have the stately pile but live in one wing of it because the roof leaking /costs too much to heat/paying for school fees etc. They may have the title, country house and land but money, no.

The OM look, however, doesn't really. Case in point: how the royals dress, vs how Rosie Huntington Whitely dresses (I prefer Rosie, tbh, I'm not bashing her. Just saying.) 2) Old money groups like the royals DO have an overlap with QL, it just depends on the occasion. The coronation isn't a great example because it's a huge event. On a more day-to-day basis, Princess Catherine, for example, dresses a lot more low-key and doesn't have huge fabulous jewels on. She also wears a lot of colours. There IS an overlap, but I think that for special occasions, the gap becomes more visible.
Right? Who in their right minds would compare what the royals are wearing on CORONATION DAY to what they wear every day? Lmao!! Also Bryan Boy's attempt at showcasing the kings traditional coronation outfit and comparing it to what "real generational wealth wear" is laughable.

It's called timeless for a reason. Basically it's the sum of what managed to last - in contrast to trends that come and go. It may increase in popularity and become mass compatible from time to time, but, well, that's what eventually happens to what is around for long enough time. And when the popularity decreases again, it's not the end, but just back to normal. Trends - on the other hand - emerge, and after a while they die. And when they're gone, they're gone. Until they perhaps get re-discovered and experience a revival. That doesn't make quiet luxury synonymous with old money, but both share the same kind of life cycle. In the end, time will tell. Labels just pitch. Just one thing about the style of the royals: The flashy, overdone stuff is not really representative for their style, for it's their workwear. In private, tweed and barbour are also here more common. What the royals wear, when they wave from a balcony, is just like what Gus Fring wears, when he welcomes guests in one of his restaurants. In private his style is far more sophisticated.
Another factor is crime (which I guess is also related to the economy), especially in places like London where people are being held up in broad daylight, people wearing loud obnoxious logos are just making themselves targets. Ironically the people wearing the biggest logos tend to have the least lol Dressing in an elegant manner isn’t about standing out, it’s about being remembered.
One rule I go by is the Quarter/thumb rule for logos. If I can't cover all or most of the logo with a US quarter or my thumb. The logo is too big and I won't buy the clothing.
Old money doesn't necessarily shy away from logos and flashiness, it's just that the logos are timeless brands that are old themselves and the flash has a purpose and is of high quality. And sometimes the logos might not be as known so it comes off as quite luxury. Items may have even been passed on for old money and be old themselves. You also don't want to draw attention to yourself when the socio-economy isn't doing well as you don't want people to be attacking you as well. Things have to be cycled as people get bored as well. Loud gets irritating after a while and if the goal for some is to stand out and b unique once everyone is being bold you can get lost in the crowd and to stand out you gotta simplify. But everyone doing that for too long can also become too boring and cause people to want to see more creativity in designs. So, it will all cycle.
I'm recently found out about different types of clothing aesthetics and was drawn to old money aesthetic, so I started researching about it more because I wanted to dress classy like that but I realised that actually I've already been dressing like that (somewhat). I'm indian so I wear indian clothes for formal occasions but otherwise I'm totally into old money, I won't start wearing old money because I want to be perceived as an old money fellow but because I feel like it's so classy and beautiful, because I LIKE IT!
Quite luxury is trends without logos that go in and out of style. Old money is timeless clothing that worked 100 years ago, works now and will work 100 years from now. But old money has the tradition as you said.
Well now that this rich people style is becoming a trend, I think some rich people would start to look something opposite of this to make their luxury quieter.🤣
0:14 Is “quiet luxury” a white Caucasian European/American aesthetic? 🤔 For many cultures, ie Chinese, Africans, Caribbeans, Mexicans, Indians, Italians etc does this term really relate? What really is “old money” vs “real money” when it comes to cultural history? 🤷🏽♀️ @Politics&Fashion has a REAL conversation on this topic.
I think quiet luxury translates to other cultures, in fact i'd argue that people from those cultures have always been doing it...its not unusual for Africans or Asians to have custom or bespoke items in their wardrobes, if thats not luxury I don't kno what is. Quiet luxury in those places is just practiced within their own context.
@justCarol ... good question... since I am from the Caribbean... our version of quiet luxury would be... very little logos BUT very clean lines, nothing too heavy due to the weather of course.... and yes it is sometimes colourful.
Im loving this discussion here! :) I guess quiet luxury is the white Caucasian European/American aesthetic, because this is what the trend aesthetic appears to be in mainstream fashion as it stands. And the one example from of old money resembling heritage and tradition from the British monarchy, I do think that it does apply to other cultures too if they wear their heritage pieces, be it Chinese, African, Caribbean, Mexican etc, in this case, I wouldn't say its the quiet luxury/old money aesthetic, it is old money mindset and heritage thats been passed down from generations.
Growing it 'no logos' we a part of my dress code. My parents never policied how long my skirts or shorts were but they did not let me wear sweatpants/sweatshirt outside the house unless I was sick, no logos unless the company paid me (hard for an 8-year-old to get puma as a sponsor) (outdoor brands for camping like MEC, REI & patagonia were ok though, but it's camping not a runway) and it could not be wrinkled (If it was I was would to iron it or change).
I agree 100% with the quiet luxury, but I really wanted to own a Balmain shirt. It does say Balmain in black letters, and I absolutely love it. 😝😝 it looks beautiful!!!! ❤
You have money and power (real estate/politic/finance) and you have money and culture. Old money have normally culture (and style/refinement). The kids from these families are often hip and modern og super sophisticated. The less money the more old fashioned the kids are. My experience. Its not so easy as it seams - for an outsider...
Sincerely I want to look good and presentable with soft, dark or neutral colors. Also I dont want keep with all this fast fashion, I wanna look elegant and a little minimalist without looking to simple. Since I cant go with Old Money cause Im definitely not, so I will keep my quiet luxury.. been trying that for 3 yrs and loving it
The important thing is being original and confident... If a person try to create her image only with random logos instantly became soulless hanger... so if you want to be classy and chic you must show of yourself and give hints about you in your combines. don't copy the logos and image of fashion companies 😊
Old money is bespoke clothes for posh and country stores for everyday. My best friend old money mum lives in jodhpurs and ridding boots and scruffy fleeces. Her handbag is an ancient battered leather stuffy one. But when she dresses up she has custom made gowns in gorgeous bright colours. She is also thin and super fit. Very few aristocrats are even slightly overweight.
Quiet luxury: minimalism, simplicity, high quality materials of silk, cashmere, leather Old money: traditions of past clothing, natural materials (similar to quiet luxury)
What a beautiful well done video! I love how you linked the cycles of the economy to the expression of fashion. I study the cycles of astrology and in a few months we will shift from Capricorn ( economic structure bug buisness hierarchy snd status) to Aquarius ♒️ ( community technology humanity ai) I think we will see a drastic shift in how we approach fashion and asthetics… maybe even having technology incorporated clothing? Who knows! :)
Quiet luxury is bland and boring 😴 ... always good to add a pop of colour in the mix ❤ Fair enough big branded logos stuck on the clothes looks super tacky that why I would go for small logos if need be. But hey dont matter ...where anything its your style and fashion as long as you feel good in them ❤😂
I’m going to wear logos and quiet luxury. The irony is that any Asthetics are indicative of exclusivity and signaling. You don’t become rich by being quiet luxurious. Do whatever makes you feel comfortable.
No matter what is happening I LOVE COLOR!!! I love my logos, but in combination with items that are not loud. Everyone has their own style, and this whole thing is ridiculous. I can’t have respect for THE ROW. Those twins have some serious problems. No way are they getting money from me.
Many fashion folk lack knowledge of history and don't know that certain fabrics and colors were, for most of human civilization, ONLY available to those with wealth. Think of expensive furs before. Today silk and the color purple are accessible to most. There is NO difference between quiet luxury because other than for particular ceremonies with those traditional heirloom items those born into wealth also tend toward classic, classy pieces made metticulously of quality material. These labels themselves are just the new names for classic timeless fashion. Mostly just a marketing ploy for young minds. Old money is old and luxury has been around for thousands of years, before these marketing labels. 🙄 Mostly this is a reaction to the tacky trends and the debasement of classiness, regardless of wealth level, standards and value, pushed by media, entertainers and their ilk. Even Paris Hilton reverted back to her old money after a rebellious youth.
I always look at the pics of the late Princess Diana and Catherine POW. The two of them so pretty but Diana was sooo chic and Catherine no matter what she wears she looks old fashion. In the pass when she was not royal you could see pics of her (CPOW) wearing jeans, tall leather boots and her on hips wide brown leather belt. She looked even sexy (no wonder William’s eyes popped 😂). now she is well dressed but….
You've just proved it's the same thing. When it comes to these terms, people only talks about appearance. Most of the pieces of quiet luxury holds the same enduring style and quality that those worn by old money guys. Besides, old money crowd tries to blend in a bit. So... there is no difference in style. Lifestyle - it's a different story that has no relevance to the terms in question here.
Its not quiet luxury if its zara, then its just minimalistic. I hate it that people made a whole personal style into a trend, not some pieces or part of the identify but just the whole looks. So in 2y when its not trendy anymore everyone can throw away their whole wardrobe which is the opposite of what people with this personal styles do
I hate to say it bc it will trigger many, but being lean and slim is the ultimate quiet luxury AND old money statement. Garish large breast implants are another no no. I myself am quite small (size 2) but have D to DD breasts. This precludes me from wearing many styles, such as turtleneck or cable knit sweaters. I've wanted a reduction for years but my husband always talks me out of it😂
So basically you can't actually see the difference between someone dressing quiet luxury and someone dressing old money. Are you (technically) old money if you didn't grow up particularly wealthy but inherited money later in life after adulthood when an older wealthy family member died?
Old money = wear good quality clothes but doesn’t have to be high end brand .. just good quality brands and timeless … and clothes transfer from grandparents to grandkids .
I'm sorry, but Byran Bone is smokimg something if he thinks thats what "real" generational wealth wears on a daily basis. Thats literally the tradittional attire the king wears during coronation. Of course everyone there will be wearing the most outlandish outfits for the event. Also the fact that he is saying to be REAL generational wealth, you practically need to be a royal? This is so false 🤣.
Good day I don't know about y'all But old money is a fashion trend it's a lifestyle Quiet luxury is picking out the dressing style from old money Old money has a whole lot than just dressing Please don't b misguided
In a few words:

Old money = lifestyle

Dressing in an elegant manner isn’t about standing out, it’s about being remembered.
One rule I go by is the Quarter/thumb rule for logos. If I can't cover all or most of the logo with a US quarter or my thumb. The logo is too big and I won't buy the clothing.
Whatever the differences, they're irrelevant to me: I'm poor.
I'm indian so I wear indian clothes for formal occasions but otherwise I'm totally into old money, I won't start wearing old money because I want to be perceived as an old money fellow but because I feel like it's so classy and beautiful, because I LIKE IT!
although we are very much still in an ongoing recession; you were right and there has been a resurgence of "loud" fashion
Your voice is so soothing and soft, relaxing
thank you so much ^^ x
"old money aesthetic" is just classic style, prove me wrong 😂
true! x
Literally just a new marketing buzzword to make it sound interesting
Quite luxury is trends without logos that go in and out of style.
Old money is timeless clothing that worked 100 years ago, works now and will work 100 years from now. But old money has the tradition as you said.
Well now that this rich people style is becoming a trend, I think some rich people would start to look something opposite of this to make their luxury quieter.🤣
The most tacky thing are houses of old money that are copycat, and false art.
Great video, thank you. I hope people will stop confusing this things
Quiet luxury is just minimalism under a new name.
0:14 Is “quiet luxury” a white Caucasian European/American aesthetic? 🤔
For many cultures, ie Chinese, Africans, Caribbeans, Mexicans, Indians, Italians etc does this term really relate?
What really is “old money” vs “real money” when it comes to cultural history? 🤷🏽♀️
@Politics&Fashion has a REAL conversation on this topic.
@@epifanny yeah, that’s my point … it’s not “quiet luxury”, it’s their culture.
@justCarol ... good question... since I am from the Caribbean... our version of quiet luxury would be... very little logos BUT very clean lines, nothing too heavy due to the weather of course.... and yes it is sometimes colourful.
@@nj1624 I’m from Caribbean too - the true meaning of “quiet luxury” is not a thing. Nor is the concept of money, new money …
Girl i love your videos! You put so much effort into them and we really appreciate them!! :)
thank you so much ^^ im glad you are enjoying them so far :)
I am happy I was never a big fan of logos and such. I always tried to avoid items that had logos on it, it was just never my taste.
Well done. Elegance has existed always but it depends often in the social sphere that former your coming of age story.
Thank you for creating valuable content im in love with your channel! 👏🏻🥰
thank you so much for joining in to watch ^^ x
I maybe a working person
but I like MTO ( Made To Order ) goods thats hand made in small batches
Like off the rack suit VS tailored suit
Growing it 'no logos' we a part of my dress code. My parents never policied how long my skirts or shorts were but they did not let me wear sweatpants/sweatshirt outside the house unless I was sick, no logos unless the company paid me (hard for an 8-year-old to get puma as a sponsor) (outdoor brands for camping like MEC, REI & patagonia were ok though, but it's camping not a runway) and it could not be wrinkled (If it was I was would to iron it or change).
Mary Kate and Ashley own a brand called The Row it’s a clothing brand are understated but beautiful
It’s my favourite brand.
I agree 100% with the quiet luxury, but I really wanted to own a Balmain shirt. It does say Balmain in black letters, and I absolutely love it. 😝😝 it looks beautiful!!!! ❤
quiet and logo luxury can both be loved ^^ its whatever makes you feel confident, that has much more value there! xx
Balmain is art. Literally only a handful of people in the world own Balmain pieces. Be proud to be part of that small percentage, you deserve it!
As a young italian, i prefer old Money. But luxury Is something that i would not esclude. Kiss🇮🇹🇯🇵♥️
You have money and power (real estate/politic/finance) and you have money and culture. Old money have normally culture (and style/refinement). The kids from these families are often hip and modern og super sophisticated. The less money the more old fashioned the kids are. My experience. Its not so easy as it seams - for an outsider...
It also helps to be knowledgeable, poised and mostly kind.
How to hold a wine glass at the stem
Sincerely I want to look good and presentable with soft, dark or neutral colors. Also I dont want keep with all this fast fashion, I wanna look elegant and a little minimalist without looking to simple. Since I cant go with Old Money cause Im definitely not, so I will keep my quiet luxury.. been trying that for 3 yrs and loving it
so basically, quite luxury can be old money but old money doesn't necessarily have to be quite luxury.
The important thing is being original and confident... If a person try to create her image only with random logos instantly became soulless hanger... so if you want to be classy and chic you must show of yourself and give hints about you in your combines. don't copy the logos and image of fashion companies 😊
great video! well done Hau!
One can never be old money by just dressing like it. You do you.
Old money can be quite tacky. Especially in the uk
Lol they tend to do that in order to show that they don't have any money when they do
Old money is bespoke clothes for posh and country stores for everyday.
Quiet luxury: minimalism, simplicity, high quality materials of silk, cashmere, leather
Old money: traditions of past clothing, natural materials (similar to quiet luxury)
I love your earrings, may I know where you purchased from.
Who knows! :)
Damn,I thought she had a million subscribers while I was watching the video. Nice work
manifesting the growth ^^ thank you so much!! x
This was fascinating and informative thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed this 💖✨
Thanks for explained :)
Quiet luxury is bland and boring 😴 ... always good to add a pop of colour in the mix ❤
Fair enough big branded logos stuck on the clothes looks super tacky that why I would go for small logos if need be.
But hey dont matter ...where anything its your style and fashion as long as you feel good in them ❤😂
Would you say that old money has to be at least from the 4th generation onwards?
Love this!
OT sorry your voice is so soothing
I love the way you talk ❤
I never liked labels and are happy to see them go! People who rely on labels to make their clothes have zero style, sorry, but zero
I also have no logo, and also no money 😂
Very thoughtful!
Dolce&gabbana all the way. Whatever quiet blah blah blah , as long as i still with these two, taste and aesthetic guaranteed !
I’m going to wear logos and quiet luxury. The irony is that any Asthetics are indicative of exclusivity and signaling. You don’t become rich by being quiet luxurious. Do whatever makes you feel comfortable.
I'm old casual, wearing the same T-shirts with cheesy slogan and denim jeans for 20 years
Best informative video on this topic 😊thanks
Okay so what is the eat the rich uniform?
Old money knows how to dress for the occasion.
This
No matter what is happening I LOVE COLOR!!!
Mostly this is a reaction to the tacky trends and the debasement of classiness, regardless of wealth level, standards and value, pushed by media, entertainers and their ilk.
Quiet luxury...Im happy my life long lifestyle has a new name lol
i like your voice! very sweet and elegant.
If anything can rid the Earth of these gaudy logo, designer fashion pieces, im all for it.
Thank you so much l love here like l fall in love amzclothes
Table manners is where one notices it most.
This is why people hate "rich" people, this level of pretentiousness and belief in things that have NO bearing on reality and the world.
Its not quiet luxury if its zara, then its just minimalistic. I hate it that people made a whole personal style into a trend, not some pieces or part of the identify but just the whole looks. So in 2y when its not trendy anymore everyone can throw away their whole wardrobe which is the opposite of what people with this personal styles do
شُكراً ❤
I hate to say it bc it will trigger many, but being lean and slim is the ultimate quiet luxury AND old money statement.
Garish large breast implants are another no no. I myself am quite small (size 2) but have D to DD breasts. This precludes me from wearing many styles, such as turtleneck or cable knit sweaters.
I've wanted a reduction for years but my husband always talks me out of it😂
Inaccurate. Royalty doesn’t wear extravagant things loudly, this was only for the coronation purposes
So basically you can't actually see the difference between someone dressing quiet luxury and someone dressing old money. Are you (technically) old money if you didn't grow up particularly wealthy but inherited money later in life after adulthood when an older wealthy family member died?
youre so pretty. you look like lucy liu
Old money = wear good quality clothes but doesn’t have to be high end brand .. just good quality brands and timeless … and clothes transfer from grandparents to grandkids .
some of the richest people in England and America wear tattered clothing;)
Tattered? Absolutely not in England. Lol.
Old money repairs....they resole their shoes, have holes darned or reworn. Handbags, ties, luggage are handed from one generation to another.
This trend happened before 1930 after stock crash. , in the 90s , and now again . Not new
I'm sorry, but Byran Bone is smokimg something if he thinks thats what "real" generational wealth wears on a daily basis. Thats literally the tradittional attire the king wears during coronation. Of course everyone there will be wearing the most outlandish outfits for the event. Also the fact that he is saying to be REAL generational wealth, you practically need to be a royal? This is so false 🤣.
He didn't say daily basis.
@@emerybayblues did I say he said that?
beautiful content, new subscriber.
Maybe the reason for my opinion is my age… but „quiet luxury“ is the type of outfit if you an adult.
Old money = born with it
Quiet luxury = worn by born with it
I worked with a kid who came from money. He'd wear a watch that cost more than a house but his clothes were beatup af.
Good day
I don't know about y'all
But old money is a fashion trend it's a lifestyle
Quiet luxury is picking out the dressing style from old money
Old money has a whole lot than just dressing
Please don't b misguided
Did she say "austentaneous"?
Lol guess she did
I want to appear like a quiet broke
