As a 16 year old in the early 1980s, I worked at a gas station pumping gas, cleaning windshields, etc. We used to have an older man come into the gas station in his black 1950s station wagon which half the time had fishing poles sticking out of the back window. Nice, unassuming man in jeans, white tee shirt and suspenders. Always pleasant to talk to. The owner of the gas station tells me that’s Lamont DuPont, former President of DuPont Corporation. He was retired and worth many millions but loved to spend his retirement fishing local rivers and keeping a low profile.

My old man never had a new car, wore the cheapest jeans from budget stores and never took a vacation, but he was worth 7 figures and owned multiple apartment buildings & businesses. When he passed away, 500 people showed up to his funeral. They were all folks he had helped out at one time or another. He was a roofer with a 5th grade educations. That's it. But to those people, he was worth them coming out for because he affected their lives enough.
If I get to be 1/10th of what my old man was, I'd still be 10X the man most men are today.

My old man never new his own father and was especially hard on me growing up. I didn't understand it, but when I became an adult, I saw that he wanted me to grow up right. That's why I say all my mistakes are my own and whatever is good in me is all him.

I used to be around a molecular biology department at a big university.
Many of the professors came from "old-money", because they could afford to live on the ridiculously low post doc salaries, and take the financial risk of working in a field where, very often, years of research resulted in no "positive" results.

Rich people do this not because they are humble but because they desire power. They can’t have power if people hate them. There’s an agenda by the media (sponsored by rich people) to make rich people relatable or seem like nice wonderful people because everyone is now exposed on the internet. This is nothing but PR so they don’t get canceled by the internet mob. 😂

the reason is simply because the old money are born with money so the concept of luxury is just a part of their life since born, in other words.. they are accustomed by it..
also living with lot of money can gave you access to certain circle of people, certain education group, and certain society which leads you to grow cautions since the competition are more harder among others.
in the other hand, the "new money" tends to show what they have as an appreciation for themself to their success.
they also usually have the feel of living on the top among their groups because of their succession..

💯true. I was raised poor. My mother was a popular teacher. She never really knew her father (her mother moved them away from him) but she prized education and traditional clothing over trend clothing. She always made sure we were presentable and was herself well read . She socialized with all people. After she passed I was curious about my grandfather and did genealogy. My grandfather was in the Army but he came from a very old family. The family was wealthy for the better half of a thousand years! My families last name has been around since 1019! Through my mother I am related to 27 of the of 46 presidents. Directly to four and two are living presidents. Additionally, I am related to four of the seven founding fathers.Having a family that I can trace through out a millennium has given me a different perspective than most people. Knowing exactly who your ancestors were, where they were, and what they did is really another level. It blew my mind a bit. I’m not like most people who don’t know what their ancestors did. My ancestors appear to have been at every major event in the last thousand years. I researched them and found them even before they had a last name😂 I am preservation librarian and not rich but wealth goes up and down. My mother really makes me believe for some class is internal.

    - having a large sum of money means that you can invest it and have a passive income, freeing you from having to spend your time working in order to survive it also allows you the freedom to help alleviate the struggles of others, and gives you a chance to act to make life better for all of us, amd spend your time on activities you consider to be positive and useful - in other words, done right it gives you more opportunity to be a decent, ordinary, helpful human being - it is big responsibility, and means you have to make continual efforts to be sure you on the right path, and are not influenced by the abundance of funds you are the steward for :)

You forget some very important pieces:
    - They usually are very religious and belong to religious organisations such as the Order of Malta.
    - They focus on quality in clothing (cashmere, top quality wools, silk, good quality cotton, etc.)
    - They focus on quality in food too, they know perfectly well what top cooking should be about: specific flavor profiles, techniques, etc.
    - They are very discrete, they won't easily share things with you unless you have earned their trust, and as a friend your discretion is also very much required and appreciated
    - Etiquette is of course a no brainer
    - You better know how to hold a conversation about culture, politics, architecture, the world, etc. when dealing with old money

I was driving by a millionaire row in Connecticut and just about every driveway had two types of cars. One was an unassuming economy 4 cylinder car (Hyundai, Kia, Honda, Toyota, etc...) and the other was an exotic or luxury car (Ferrari, Porsche, Bentley, Jaguar, Rolls Royce, etc...). You just knew that the cheap car was what they drove daily and that the other one was their once in a blue moon spoil themselves ride. And they were all parked in the driveways of multimillion dollar homes as opposed to the ghettos in New York City or the trailer parks of The South that have $100,000 pickup trucks or BMW's in their parking with wheels that cost 2 semesters of their kids' college tuition.

Compare and contrast this to the rich people from the North Shore in Chicago, where I used to live, which is the upper crust. I from middle class like a lot of people, and I remark that a lot of people like to travel, travel and travel... It's the only thing for this people who are important. And one day, I have a friend who comes from a old money family and he explained to me that he didn't travel much, that for his parents it was useless and a waste of time, and that they just traveled for culture (visiting Rome or Florence or a historical city for example). They prefer sport and take time for culture or juste simple thing (my friend was a big fan of videogame and think he is more happy during is vacation to play that after the end of schoolyear! )...I was happy, because I think the same, and I like to past my time in my country during the spring every and just travel when I want really !
Unfortunately, many people in my class (and I've discussed this with friends) don't travel to enjoy themselves, but to show that they're rich (or think they are).
Apparently a lot of old money don't care to travel, they just like to take her time and appreciate simple thing. It's a rare quality today.
Anyway, I thing a lot of tips in this video can be useful for every people. Like legacy, I think it's important. Or education, and not just for a good job.

The money goes after about five generations and then what do you have. That is the question. I would not get hung up on the facade. What kind of person are you deaiing with. Is he or she friendly. Do they treat people respectfully and with interest. Do they try to do good. These are the important things. Not what they have. I might add. These old money people have not gone through the existential crises that fundamentally test your very existence. LIke those that have seen combat or those that financially especially where they have a family to support. If you have been through these you know what real fear is and how to deal with it and not fall apart It gives you a sense of true confidence. . The monied people for the most part have not come close as they have a financial safety net. I went through a double whammy of this but I was so tough by then, I took it in stride and came out better. Thats the mark of a winner. And these monied people do not have the experience of existential crises, for the most part and are weak. And the tough guys know it. They are not real men and it applies to women too. The women of today are far superior to the women of old. They work and take care of their families and this is very very hard. To their credit some monied women are truly committed to working for charity and taking care of their families and I respect them. But for the most part these monied women are parasites to their money and manufacture problems to keep themselves busy.

Bad for them ; they might have enjoyed life more _ they are not seeing their legacies from wherever their ashes are now. Millionaires are not leaving money to their children, they want them to work and succeed by themselves. And rich people who apparently lead a simple life wear white t_ shirts that cost $600,00 . This is a futile approach to what is called " old money".
Let' s forget these people: their paradigmas don' t hold true for anyone but themselves. And they tend to look down on people. Let's stop being so much impressed by these people and enjoy life ourselves!

Not the biggest tippers, but excellent, and willing to pay for any EXTRA SERVICES.They won't run your ass off...but they WILL tip, accordingly, if they do...and they WILL be polite about it. They never made you feel like white trash...or brown trash..either
The nouveau riche has ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA WHAT HAPPENS, BEHIND THE SCENES, before OR after one flashes your gold card...or cash. Which is odd, considering how many were IN THE SERVICE INDUSTRY.
So they think LOUD, DEMANDING, PUSHY. ISN'T THAT what being rich IS ???
Sadly, nothing could be further from the truth. But this sort of delicacy of behavior...Is simply lost on them....the NEW MONEY..
The wait staff knows...a year from now...ANOTHER IMPOSSIBLY IMPORTANT, SOON TO BE NOBODY, will be seated at this table. Rude, loud, offensive, waving that card around like it was an extension of a personal body part..
While old money, at another table... will be greeted as a old and valued friend..with excellent service to match...and ANY special requests, are a..."but of course", sir...

I know because my father was one of them.
His family was old money but he had none but pretended to be thrifty and driving old cars and old money family hand me downs (all were free)
It was tough because I had to work multiple jobs in college to barely make it.
And people thought he was just “teaching me about work ethics “
Ha what a joke. That’s how he’d spin it too.
And they honestly didn’t believe me that he had no money. Well he’s very poor now and everyone knows he was full of it.
