Audrey -- I was at a higher end clothing store today, and was helping a male friend buy a lightweight 100% wool suit in the men's furnishings department. I was looking at the construction of the blazer and thinking about the comparatively poor construction of my own women's blazers that are similarly priced. I started thinking "maybe I should buy my basic classic blazers in the men's department!" Could you do a video on shopping in the men's department, please? Pros, cons, what to look for, what items may be good to look for if you're a woman with an hourglass figure versus if you are a more straight up and down/rectangle figure, etc? Thank you!

If you have an inverted triangle body shape, this might work for you. My husband brought me a beautiful men's blazer from Scotland, but on my narrow-shouldered hourglass figure it didn't work at all. However, we have a friend with broader shoulders and a straighter shape, and it fit her to perfection.

      Oooh yes!
I actually like to shop in Uniqlo’s men section, because their work shirts have slightly thicker cotton compared to women’s (it means they are neater on the body and doesn’t wrinkle easily). Since the store usually doesn’t carry Men XS size, I go to their store to take a look first and then search the shirt I want in their online catalogue for XS size.
Their plain men t-shirt is nice too! I picked the t-shirt that doesn’t have curvy waist like women’s t-shirt.

About 30 years ago, I found a really classic navy blue blazer at a second-hand store…it fit great and was exactly what I needed at the time. Once I got it home, I saw it had been from a major department store’s “husky boy” line. (At the time, I was a fairly slender, inverted triangle.) So, yeah, there’s stuff to be had in other departments! I also have a friend with slightly small feet (women’s size 6?) and she always finds the cutest shoes on clearance in the kid’s dept!

I find it really interesting when I see people in other countries are referred to as petite when they are 5'3" Where I come from it is average height. I am 5'3" as well and most women i know is actually shorter than me. Here, taller women have trouble finding the right length in pants, etc because very few stores have tall clothing ranges. Anyway, i just thought I'd share as I love how things are so different depending on where u go in the world 😊❤

@@musingsofamuslimah2018 , I am an Asian gal born and raised in US and finding properly scaled clothes have always been a challenge. Im always sending to the tailor to shorten or take in . I am envious of the women in Asia as they have beautiful quality clothes that are made for petite body types. Ive found that brands that offer petite sizing are always sold out, proof that there is a large market for petite women

@@midlifemom5829 I can imagine what a hassle it must be to always have your clothes tailored, not to even mention the cost involved! I am South African, but my mother had Malay/Indonesion ancestry. She was much shorter than I am, but still managed to find clothes that fit straight from the store thankfully. I hope the fashion industry in your country catches up with demand soon. Not nearly enough progress has been made with regards to inclusivity 🌹

Many channels that talk about quiet luxury or old money aesthetics don’t talk about not rotating a signature element or item. It can be watch, ring, bag, loafers, type of pants, cashmere sweater (just one element, not all these at the same time). This is what I have observed. Old money people tend to have one item they use all the time.

if circumstance & budget allow for it, I think having a bespoke piece would be a great addition to a timeless wardrobe. I went to a seamstress to get a traditional blouse & skirt handmade to fit my proportions 6yrs ago for my bachelor’s graduation, then I wore it again for my master’s grad. I still keep them today because they still hold up the shape & fit me nicely. It was fun to go through the process of selecting fabric & taking measurements with her, I learned a lot about my own measurements too. I will definitely wear that outfit again when I defend my doctorate thesis (hopefully) in 2 years time🤞🏼

I absolutely agree with you about purchasing shoes with actual heels versus those that are completely flat or have foam-like soles. Mainly because shoes with a ‘hard’ heel can be repaired, thus lasting much longer and making a more expensive purchase very sensible. I’ve kept some leather shoes for up to 15 years and a good shoe repair person can save us so much money!

Totally agree, I just had a pair of loafers soled and healed this week this cost me £20 but the shoes cost over £100 15 years ago this is the third time the shoes have been repaired. I wear then at least once a month more in winter than in summer. They still look beautiful. Money well spent.

I moved to a colder climate a couple of years ago. Once I realized how warm cashmere and merino wool are, I have been collecting at thrift stores. The thinness of the fabric is deceiving. My favorite thing is to find a man's sweater in a thrift store. I love the feeling of being swallowed up in the fabric. I can't stand any of it next to my skin, so I have to layer. But, I am warm!

Ohh this raises a (slightly off topic) question from me: As someone who loves the look of a tailored button up shirt and doesn't always want to size up, how do I avoid the dreaded button gaping with a larger bust? Hey! I'm a midsized girl (size 8-10) I'd love some styling tips for capsule wardrobes that are flattering for midsize-plus size girls. I find a lot of the styling tips available online cater to a slimmer frame and when I replicate these outfits they just don't work the same. Such good tips. It’s taken me some trial & error to find the right type/size handbags. I am 5’4” short waisted, big bust & size 14. Thinner crossbody bags with a rounded shape or half circle style, a medium satchels and medium size totes. My wardrobe is minimal so I have two totes one casual/vinyl black and one camel leather. I also find totes that have matching wallets that are wristlets. Wristlets give me far more versatility and serve as quick go to for a errand or a simple look for an outing where I know I won’t be doing much walking around. Plus I don’t have to figure out shoes since the colors of the handbags/totes already work with my current shoes. ❤👜

This look is my all time favorite because I am 5ft 11in tall and cannot find pants or jeans that are flattering on me because my legs look like two sticks without any shape. I wasn't near a higher end shop and all the fast fashion places said that style pant was mostly from last year and they don't stock them much. Obviously no boys section for us plus size girls, but the actual look is extremely flattering for us. The cropped pant with an oversized sweater or shirt that looks lux is a great look!

Great video! When you mentioned jewelry though it occurred to me that timeless looking frames for those of us who wear glasses is also important. Going for what is trending in eyewear is not always a good look. It throws off what is classic styling. Just a thought. 😊

Great video as always Audrey ❤ I would love if you could dive a little deeper into the jewellery for this aesthetic. I have seen some people recommend vintage / heirloom style pieces while others recommend only minimal pieces. Some say pearls look like you are trying too hard, etc. So many opinions and contradictions. I would really like to hear your take on this. I have always loved classic, timeless style which is why I love that this aesthetic is trending. I prefer to express my personal style through my accessories, especially bags & jewellery. I mostly stay away from trends. Thank you for making these videos ❤

I'd like to see videos on ways to coordinate accessories, especially in terms of color. I wear black bags and shoes because it's easy and I like them to match, but I think they look too heavy in the summer. Maybe beige or dark navy (I only like a dark, true navy, which can be hard to find) would be better.

interesting what you said at the end, copying a 90s look that feels out of date now. I really feel that way about the 90s styles coming back. It's difficult for me to feel comfortable emulating the style I wore in my late teens, early 20s without feeling I am dressing too young. Like you said, it is all about finding the pieces that suit me now. And yes, shopping in the mens department is facinating, I will give it a go.

You can get insoles to help with that. I also think some brands have better construction and will include arches.
I used to wear ballet flats all the time before an injury stopped me and I remember some of my more expensive ones had better support. I just can't remember where I got them unfortunately.

I’m 5 7” and can’t wear oversized anything. Because I’m small boned it just looks sloppy. I couldn’t wait to get fitted tops because they fit me better. Not going for a boxy man style for sure.
