      Very true I was a bb coach a few years back. The only training I had was I was a gymnastics coach. I quit bb nut then tried to be a bb coach again. One day I looked at all the other coaches and realized alot of us shouldn't have Been coaches as we could hurt others , so I decided to get certified as a personal trainer.

    • @JustinaErcole
      @JustinaErcole  9 місяців тому +5

      hahaha no i completely forgot about it. But fat loss simply comes from being in a negative energy balance aka calorie deficit. So if this workout helps put you in a deficit, then sure it can support fat loss. Also increased muscle mass would increase your metabolic rate and can also support fat loss. But there aren't any "fat loss" workouts that exist. It's an oversimplification.

    I was a member of BOD for a few years and liked the MBF program. I did it several times. Megan Davies regularly used heavier weights than most trainers. Chalene Extreme was also about lifting heavy. I was never into the cardio only programs (like Insanity)
    The biggest issue with Shaun T I have right now is that he is working with someone to eat a certain way to build muscle and BOD is still using that container system/portion fix as the 'nutrition' component. The other issue is that watching the people in his test group has shown that this program is pretty much complicated compound moves just like Autumn has been known to place in her programs. The other crazy thing is that Shaun has been saying on IG that this is lifting heavy and these huns are saying- I lifted with 10 pound weights today! in the test group!
    Had Shaun really brought forth a real program outside of BOD I would try it.

    • @JustinaErcole
      @JustinaErcole  9 місяців тому +1

      omg that damn container system needs to go away haha. But to play devil's advocate, 10 pounds IS heavy for some people! I used 10s in this video for all of the upper body work!

    • @JustSheilz
      @JustSheilz 9 місяців тому +1

      @@JustinaErcole I understand that because I have a nerve issue in my neck and my physical therapist told me to stay at 5-10 pounds for overheard work, but even for people who I know who have been 'coaches' in BOD for years, they rarely use anything heavier than an 8.
      If Ive been working out for years, and the best I can do is 10 at that point, then these programs arent doing enough IMO.

    • @JustinaErcole
      @JustinaErcole  9 місяців тому +3

      Oh yeah well the Beachbody coaches are a whole other red flag. Anytime I see someone who's a coach, their form is terrible and they have zero understanding of what they're talking about. Thank you for weighing in!@@JustSheilz

    So happy I found this review. I used to be a fan of Bodi, not so much anymore but I am very curious about this program. The rest period (or lack thereof), is a huge red flag. In the old days, P90X and Body Beast did give adequate rest. I tried the new Lift More and it's ridiculous I think 15 seconds? I did inquire why this is the case as I always pause the video. Apparently they're just trying to focus really hard on getting their programming in a certain time frame so they can promote it to the public as a 30 or 40 minute program.

      If that's something your doctor has advised you against then I would absolutely listen to them. But the benefits of strength training far outweigh the risk of prolapse unless you're medically prone to it for some reason. I would highly suggest chatting with your doctor on other ways you can preserve bone density and muscle mass with age.

    And in other news, the creator of P90X is actually a guy named Tony Horton and he was Beach Body's first official super trainer I think - and he has since left the company and started his own thing, and I would totally be curious about your take on him and what he's doing now if that's something you want to look into in the future! Hi Justina, thanks for all of these videos in December, really enjoy them so far. You mention that if you can do the same thing on your next set with 23sec of rest, that you're not actually going to build muscle. I wonder if that's the case for Caroline Girvan's workouts. She's really big on building muscle and rarely programs a rest time longer than 30sec between sets. What are your thoughts on that?

    • @JustinaErcole
      @JustinaErcole  9 місяців тому

      So the idea is that if you lift heavy enough to tear the muscle fiber, you will need at least a minute of rest to complete the reps again with proper form. If you can jump right back into it, you’re probably not going heavy enough. Hope that makes sense!

    • @debbievanrooij1879
      @debbievanrooij1879 9 місяців тому

      @@JustinaErcole Thanks for the explanation. I think I get it, but that would conclude that Caroline herself is not going heavy enough, because she can do several sets with the same weight with only 30sec rest, for approximately same amount of reps per set (maybe getting a little bit more fatigued each set). Would that mean she's not really building muscle? She's always promoting muscle building and she gives me the impression she knows what she's talking about (so are you btw :D). Anyway, excited for your Caroline vlogmas tomorrow!

    • @JustinaErcole
      @JustinaErcole  9 місяців тому

      I would have to look at the program. Because let's say she's doing a lower body exercise then an upper body exercise as a superset. Well even if she's only taking 30 sec of rest, the opposite body parts are actually resting more if that makes sense. I'm happy to link some studies about the benefits of rest time between sets, but it's definitely a "youtuber thing" to take out the rest time of strength training. Every coach I know IRL uses rest :)@@debbievanrooij1879

    On my fitness forum, the biggest complaint after watching the sample workout was that Shaun talks too much lol. I’m learning a lot from this series! I’ve never done a workout with a 1 to 3 minute rest, so I guess I haven’t done a proper heavy strength workout. Is it hard to find that in a UA-cam or streaming workout, outside of a gym? Apologies if I’m sounding slow, I’m slow on the uptake sometimes!

    • @JustinaErcole
      @JustinaErcole  9 місяців тому +1

As a Shaun T super-fan, his (or whoever he has do this) ability to properly build out a strength-based workout is dubious. I did his "Insanity Upper Body" workout from years back, and it included two sets of Shoulders/Arms exercises before starting Chest/Back. That being said, curious to see how this workout ends up. If the low-rep workouts are distinct from the higher-rep workouts, that would help a lot.
