For all the skeptics, I tried this tutorial and my hair turned out really great. I have a tighter curl than her but it turned out looking bouncy and full of volume without the frizz. I’m not being hired to say that, I just wanted to share that I took the leap and it’s worth it!
@@nichelleloh6659 no, he was doing it for other hairdressers. If you can take your hair from the back, hold it straight out behind you, still see it without several mirrors in the right place and cut it just right, I applaud you.
I wept, that was so clean and crisp and versatile. I am 52, and just found out I have lice yesterday. Kept my kids clear of this my whole life as well as me. I cut my own hair and was due for a good trim, but I cut about 4 to 6 inches off and did some layering, I may do more, especially with the help of your video. I did 2 natural treatments, then the lice shampoo, have to wait 48 hrs before I can do another natural treatment. I am fluffy in body and my hair so I don't want to go short, AND I want to be able to put it up in a bun (hair tie or clip). Whereas, I wash and condition my hair daily, it is some dry, so I am making peace with letting a lot of it go. I also use a semi permanent color to eliminate grays and tone down the red in my hair. I use to cut hair when I was young, and watching you is so relaxing and educational. I am glad I started with the good amount of hair cutting off before this treatment so I can get use to the length being gone, it will be fine tuning using your technique tomorrow. Robin is very pretty and her hair cut was spot on, not too much, not too little. I will be adding tea tree oil to my shampoo and conditioner moving forward and blow-drying and using sea salt spray, which I just bought a few weeks back, as they say adults don't get lice because we use product and heat. I don't do enough for myself. I learned so much from your work, thank you so much. Luv your jokes too.
The beautiful model loves her curls and the haircut perfect! Thank you for the old school details for the professional hairstylists to follow. Great job Stephen!
I love that you said that about the bottom layer in the beginning! I had a client who came for a haircut and told me "I have not gotten a haircut in a year! Cut off 3 inches because my hair is so dead" I started the haircut, taking a small base section and cut 3 inches. I let down the rest of the hair and it was 6 inches longer!! Then I realized: the base layer was so broken it gave me the illusion of shorter hair! Since then, I have learned to take a thicker base layer when a client says they haven't gotten a haircut in a long time!
Seriously why did he not show it dry and styled. How do we even know that it won't be terrible when she styled it. Curly hair looks totally different dry then it does wet.
Maybe, it is more of a sit under a hair drier or diffuser and then use an iron to go through all the layers to separate them and soften them, maybe using some light hair serum to minimize frizz and add gloss and shine?
Thank you for this great video. It was detailed enough for a careful, observant novice to follow. I wanted to do it on myself, but couldn't see/reach enough no matter how many mirrors I set up lol. I was able to instruct my husband how to section my hair and cut the base length. My hair looks so much better now, even without the beautiful layering. I wish I had a curly friend who would like me to do this cut for them. I've had a lifetime of terrible haircuts because nobody knows how to handle curls, even supposed curl experts. If only I could clone myself and cut my own hair using this method😊
I love it! I have the same type of hair as Robin & I do the same technique as she does! I go upside down just like her & use my hands to scrunch my hair, then shake it when I stand up. I thot I was crazy the way I did my hair. I'm glad I watched this video! Thx Robin! Your hair looks amazing! 👍🏼👍🏼❤️
My God you are good! My 19 year daughter learned this tutorial in only 20, from 30 min. Gave me an awesome haircut. Thank you! Have to say, best teacher ever! A venezuelan in Costa Rica.
My mom has an extra curly hair and she is always afraid to cut it in a salon because they cut too much. I did this haircut to my mom and left it a little bit longer than the one on the model and she loved it
Thanks for the video. I have a decent pair of scissors, a good artist's eye, a money saving attitude, and You Tube. I have cut straight and wavy hair, both men and women styles, for family, but never cut curly hair before and I was afraid I would mess up, but today I cut a friend's curly hair using the method from your tutorial. We went about two inches shorter because she donated 10 inches of hair to a wigs for kids charity. She is super happy with her new look and the layering looks great. You were right about spraying the hair during the cut. Next time someone asks me to cut their hair, I will check your channel first.
Very nice. It is alway good to see how other stylists cut curly hair. And I liked how you got her to do what she usually does with her hair after the hair cut, I do the same. Curl hair is so different to each person and they know what’s best for their curl. Awesome job. 😊
Thank you for this video! Now I can cut my daughter's hair the proper way. If only I could cut my own curly hair like this. Nobody can cut my hair properly.
How would you describe this cut to a stylist? I feel rude giving them the video (feels like I'm trying to tell them they can't do their job) but I really just want this cut!! Great job
Monica E I'm a hairstylist and I wouldn't think it's rude. Personally I ask my clients what they want and if they have a picture or a video to show me even better! The client needs to be happy and as a stylist it's our job to make that happen. If a stylist gets offended go somewhere else. :)
I TOTALLY agree, I don't want to hurt my beauticians feelings, YET I really want my hair cut just like that!!!! I may text her the video the day before I go in and hopefully she have reviewed it, SO MANY beauticians DO NOT keep my hair wet enough throughout the cut...But that's going to change!!
Just go for it, look at Kirk Hammett man (Maybe you don't look exactly or anything like him but my point is who cares its your hair, women may have the same who cares, and this is a great tutorial so just go for it!)
Please oh please tell us how to describe this haircut to our stylist! My hair is exactly like hers. Fine, curly and lots of it, and this cut is perfect for me.
Fantastic way to do it. Hard to do it yourself--any suggestions? My hair is so long if I pulled it straight out from the back I would have to have tentacles for arms. What a beautiful girl...great tips --my hair is just like hers...curly and not thick
Great video. I needed this I get lost when I have a client with curly hair. Thanks to you I'll be ready to attach them n shine their way out. Thank you so much!
Love this! I'm a hairdressing apprentice and was just wondering would you class this as an increase layer haircut or more of a long uniform layer(90 degree) ?
Thank you for this video. I have curly hair and am going to a new hairdresser in April. Right now my hair is long and has lost it’s shape. I will be watching her tho make sure that back side doesn’t get too short or too thin. Wonder if I can just show her your video 😂
I would like to thank you SalonGuy, on behalf of all the curly hair owners, to prove that at least YOU KNOW how to cut curly hair. I haven't met anyone yet until now and I am 60 years old. Fixing the camera to a better position would be good though.
Where can i find these products? Are they for sale?? BTW i love how you teach step by step and point at little tips to watch for! This really helped me, thank you! 😍

“It smells like the ocean, doesn’t it? Just not the jersey shore tho” as a person from jersey, I can say ... he’s not wrong and I hope her hair wouldn’t smell like that 🤣 beautiful hair cut
PLEASE sir, I need your utmost help! Yesterday the barber gave me a buzz cut the sides, she literally went over my scalp with the clipper without fading. That was not I asked for. My front which is about 7cm and sides about 1cm.. I have that "hard part" on both sides now and I find it disgusting I am so sad... What should I do please? Thanks!!!
I dont see Plush on your website. My hair is curly similar to the models. But it’s in a very layered style, short top layers on the top of my head but long around the face, sort of like a shag almost. What do you recommend for growing out to be able to do this style?
I like all of your videos on how to create a great hairstyles.I used to have curly hair almost all my life.but now its half and half I don't what happened I have had been cutting it short and I always had it longer I want to layer it I would be happy to have some one to cut that way and not worry it is not going to look bad. A good fan of yours in va. 😁👩🦱
I cut it in the middle but it could also just be how I pulled the hair in front. Sometimes you need to go back to pull it forward to be even but I didn't as much in this case .
I see so many hairdressers holding out the hair and cutting the hair at different angles to layer the hair. When a clients says they want layers how do you know what kind of layers they want. I was taught in school to comb the hair straight up from the crown and then comb each section of hair up to that guide and cut and there, you have layers. I am so confused so I never know if I am layering the hair the right way. I see people cut long layers by holding the hair out at 90 degrees and then other people over direct. I see some lift everything up and cut straight across. I am so confused!! Please help!
There are many types of layers and techniques. If you bring it all straight up, it creates very long layers and stays heavy but it depends on the look you want to achieve. Watch other videos of mine.

I watched your video while cutting my wife’s hair for the 1st time.
We’re still married and she honestly likes it. THANK YOU!
You know what! you should teach us how to cut our own hair cause we curly heads have no hairdresser this professional as you around
Um I thought he did teach us by using model Robin, duh!
I could never do this myself. I need to find a hairstylist like you!!

I was actually waiting for the dry result !🤷🏻♀️ that what’s really matters
A GOOD hair dresser can cut curly hair wet 🙄 still would have like to see the final resolute but this isn’t about that it’s about how to cut

Ugh, why can't I have this guy to cut my hair? No one in my area can cut curly hair, so I'm too scared to go short, even though I want to.
Some of the commentary to the client was unnecessary. I felt uncomfortable for her at times.
