      By the way, C Cashin, that’s a steal you got there! Timing done + $4500 = Wow. It’s not the fastest Audi wagon, but it has all the perfect ingredients that make it a joy to drive, which is more important that just horsepower numbers sometimes.

    Its the best s4 ever made for multiple reasons... Its the only s4 with the glorious v8 engine ( yes it has the chain issue but u just get the upgraded part and replace the whole thing, other then that its bulletproof) the quality of the build is THE BEST of all generations of s4... Its reasnoble to maintain since ot shares a lot of parts with the a4 series, its not an rs4 where maintanace is big bucks and pain in the ass and u get 80% of the rs4 for half the money... Yes it has the engine mounted on the nose but this generation s4 was faster on track then the e46 m3 back in the day so they made up for that with traction... This is the last of the old school cars and with that said its one of the greatest Audi cars of all times...This car can keep pace with a Lamborghini Mucierlago on the track

    I'm happy to say that I have never heard a single rattle from my engine, never added a single quart of oil between my 3000 mile oil changes, (admitedly I only have 46,000 miles, if you want to really wake this car up, hollow out the pre-cats get a tune (mine was from JHM), and you will be shocked at how much more fun the car gets to be, the exhaust sound barley changes, just a little more raspy at high RPM.

    These V8 don’t suffer with carbon build up … they have only common fault with timing chain guid which are plastic and they use to break . Also camshaft adjusters

  • @jonharris1654

    If you look after it, use the audi 15 second rule and keep the oil topped up you will have no problem with the timing chain guides.

  • @semird615
    @semird615 4 роки тому +4

    The main problem about a big engine in a smaller car like that is the maintenance and repair costs. You literally need to take the car apart to do dome basic stuff on that. We’d love to own a top of the line German car with a V8, and this one is affordable to get, but keeping it running is a real pain.

      I don't tend to agree and I own a S4 B6 (exactly same colour and spec as in video) for 3 years now. These are much better cars than people think, as long as you buy one for which the timing chain has been replaced recently. Maintenance costs have been very low and really mainly for all other bits than the engine, which is indeed a gem.

      @semird615 3 роки тому +1

      @@wjvandenberg1 it's a good think the timing chaine has been replaced, otherwise those v8s are bulletproof. What about oil consumption ? I know Audi engines of this era loved to drink oil so I'm curious.

    • @wjvandenberg1
      @wjvandenberg1 3 роки тому

      @@semird615 about 1 liter per 2000-3000km, which I guess is very normal for an engine this size (I think it takes 9 litres). It is mainly the TFSI engines that are famous for excessive oil consumption.

    I drive on sluggish country roads and highways. This is the perfect car for that. If I want to turn I'd go for the A4 B8.5 with the right engine (facelift is important because diffs were moved farther back.) I'd probably even go for the 3.0TDI (torque at more technical roads ftw) over an S model, despite the V6 supercharged makes good horses on original parts.
