    I installed a Nord-Lock wedge lock washer in place of the washers the kickstand was installed with. I’ve used them on other bikes to fix kickstand bolts loosening and I’ve never noticed loosening with any of them since. I highly recommend them.
    I was really surprised the kickstand was installed with a split-ring and a flat washer. A split ring washer doesn’t work that well at resisting loosening, but it won’t work at all with a flat washer installed with it.
    Other misses I noticed with my XPedition, most of which are minor (and kind of expected at this price point) but one which can cause major issues and should be corrected:
    One of the spring pins on one of my running boards was so off orientation, I had to enlarge its corresponding hole in the frame so it would go through it and lock the running board in. Seems someone “eyeballed” the braze-ons of the board’s support post when attaching them rather than using a fixture.
    Bosses for water bottle cages and battery mounts are off center. They don’t affect function, but they are easily noticeable when you look at them.
    Stem and fork were misaligned. I had to loosen the bolts and align them.
    Spacers on both brake calipers made it so a small but significant area of the pads hang off the other edge of the rotors. A friend of mine who lives in a very steep hilly area told me about how her pads caught the edge of the rear rotor after some wear and got partially ejected from their calipers, losing brake function and making really loud metallic squealing noises at the rear caliper. She sent me pics of her pads and twisted leaf return spring.
    When I disassembled mine, my pads also showed a corner and outer edge not wearing, creating material that could catch on the other edge of the rotors, with the rear being worse. I tried flipping the spacers and switching them front to-back but none of those worked. I ground them down so the pads are completely on the rotors.
    This could be dangerous if you ride down long, steep hills, so check yours out and ask Lectric to replace the spacers or entire caliper assembly (spacers would be easier as you won’t have to mess with hydraulic brake lines). Or, if you’re confident in your ability, grind yours down to correct the situation, but measure twice before grinding.
    All that said, it is a very good cargo ebike for its price, especially with the default speed caps removed from PAS 1 & 2. I use it for almost all my shopping runs now, though the trailer hitch is only compatible with their pet trailer, so I have to make an adapter to hook my cargo trailer to it. I do wish the power settings for each PAS level were adjustable as I think 1 is a bit high for tight maneuvers at low speed, and the gap between 1 & 2 is too big.

      I live and fish in Florida, and got my Expedition Cargo a couple days ago. Rigged it with front platform for my cooler. Orbitor on back for hauling castnet and bait bucket, footboards have diy rod holders. I attached a towing hitch under rear deck frame and can tow my 90 lb Hobie easily. When towing and hauling all this gear, I can hardly notice any performance difference. Stability fully loaded and towing is phenomenal and hydraulic brakes give me dependable stopping power. I am 74, and this bike replaced my 30 yr old F150 V8. Not enough rides to really know the range, but with dual batteries I'm confident I'll never get stranded. Just gotta get a rain cover in case a shower pops up.
      EDIT: Max range for all that gear is 19 mi for 1 battery, 40 mi for 2. Did get a cover, and I put that on while I'm out on the water - keeps hands off the bike, controls, panniers.

    Great review.
    Regarding the missing deflopilator, I agree this is a must.
    I bought a spring and spring cover from another eBike manufacturer (Radio Flyer had one for a good price) and it was an easy add with the under-frame mounting boss Lectric provides. I made a simple bracket for the spring to hook to under the frame. The front fender mount has a hole on the rear for the other end of the spring. Works great!
    I also agree a second charger would be nice, we solved that by buying an XP trike for my wife 😂
    Very impressed with both, especially at their price point. Nice job Lectric.

    I'm about to hit 1800 miles. I loved the Xpedition but purchased a KBO Commuter Breeze thinking it would be a better option for the short distance between home and work (10 miles both ways). However, I sold the KBO to a friend because I couldn't part from my Xpedition! I ride my Xpedition all year in all good, bad, and ugly weather types. So far this investment decision will save me about $2,300 in commuting costs on the wear and tear of our minivan. The biggest benefit I love is riding my grandkids with the orbiter and my grandkids love riding and visiting a nearby pear tree to grab pears so grandma can make pear jam and pie filling. 😋 Our house is about a rock's throw from the Ohio Erie Towpath, which runs from Lake Erie to the Ohio River; our section has a paved pathway around a beautiful small lake (2.25 miles) with two bridges and a floating boardwalk. FUN, FUN! My bike is due for a break pad change and tire replacements (with Tannu's liners and better tires for winter), especially for my upcoming 288-round trip to Columbus, Ohio, and back in July. I like the street tires, but I only had one flat tire. The rear tire is getting thin and needs to be replaced. I have ten grandkids, and seven live nearby, so since I am destined to own a mini-van, I will be destined to own a cargo E-bike. LOL, I highly recommend getting one, but it could be a little heavy for older adults {I'm 63), so do some dumbbell workouts and body resistance training if you're transporting precious cargo like grandkids. Great review! Thank you!

      Good question - there is just so much capacity I have no idea. I always charge at least one battery when they are getting low.
      JT here- I agree with Ryan’s answer above. I normally just charge them after a couple rides. However I do know that the average mileage I get before even thinking about charging is 15-20miles. And even then the battery charge level is around 50-60%. And that is with my payload being between 300-350lbs.

    • @chow-chihuang4903
      @chow-chihuang4903 3 місяці тому

      I’ve never run mine to depletion, but based on voltage and miles traveled at time I choose to charge, I expect about 60 miles per fully charged pair of batteries.
      I use mine almost exclusively for shopping, so it carries from 20-80lbs beyond my weight (230lbs) and my locks and tool & first aid kits (about 20lbs) on the return leg. I typically use PAS 1-3 on quiet neighborhood roads with posted speed limits of 25mph or separate bike paths, riding between 12-18mph. I use PAS 2-5 on the main road between my neighborhood and the stores (Kroger, Target, Costco, occasionally to Meijer, Home Depot or Lowe’s), riding between 18-28mph because cars drive anywhere from 38-55mph alongside the painted bike gutter. Posted speed limits are 35-45mph, but drivers almost always exceed them, especially along the 45mph section, which is two wide lanes in each direction, plus dedicated turn lanes. I hate riding along that road, but I need to, so I go as fast as I can to reduce the speed differential and reduce the time I’m riding alongside that traffic.
      If you weigh and carry less and ride more slowly than I do, you should get more miles per pair of fully-charged batteries.

    • @chow-chihuang4903
      @chow-chihuang4903 6 місяців тому +3

      I didn’t buy the Orbitor because I want to be able to use the cover flaps on the XL panniers. There is no way to use them this way with an Orbitor installed.
      Any pictures of the combination on Lectric’s site shows the pannier bags in their open-top configuration. To use them this way, fold all the small overlapping flaps against the underside of the cover, then tuck the cover into the body of its pannier. Install the panniers this way first, making sure the handle flops towards the interior of the pannier, then install your Orbitor. Tighten the outer clips so they rest snugly against the side of the pannier to keep them from snagging on things.
      To support the outer wall of the pannier, feed the center strap through the handle, then fasten it with the clasp (that’s why there are two straps on the clasp - one for covered, one for open-top mode).

    800+ miles into mine and i love it but..
    Kickstand does come lose all the time and is a pain to reach.
    Lost the key to one of my batteries and replacing it seems more trouble than it's worth.
    It is noisy but as my first bike i have nothing to compare to.
    Wish the system that pulls power from both batteries could split the charge too so one charger could charge both and keep the batteries even.
    Wish it said how much each battery was charged instead of combined power.
    Torque isn't quite there yet. I go up a hill regularly that i can barely petal to the top of.

    • @chow-chihuang4903
      @chow-chihuang4903 3 місяці тому

      The issue with the kickstand is they installed a split-ring lock washer and a flat washer between the nut and the frame. A split-ring is a weak lock washer, and the flat washer completely negates its limited locking function.
      It will work better if you remove the flat washer.
      I replaced both with a wedge-lock washer (Nord-Lock brand). It works much better than a split-ring or star-type lock washer. It’s a two-piece washer, so make sure you install both pieces, with the sawtooth faces on each piece facing each other. The Nord-Lock ones come hot-glued together, but just in case they get separated before you install them, you’ll know how to do so correctly.
      You can augment either with some thread-lock on the bolt before you thread the nut back on. You’ll need to degrease the bolt, apply the thread-lock and wait at least 15 minutes before threading the nut back on.
      I just use a wedge-lock washer. Haven’t had it loosen since (late March/early April 2023).

    Any cargo bike should have a STURDY kickstand, there's simply no excuse for not having a good stand. The whole "you're not meant to use it when you're loading cargo" is absurd. Literally the only reason why you buy a cargo bike is because every time you ride it, you're loading cargo. In this sense, Tern has it right, their kickstand is great.

    What about a 20 thousand miles update?????

  • @WildernessMusic_GentleSerene
    @WildernessMusic_GentleSerene 5 місяців тому +2

    I'm a full time cyclist, don't own a car. I ride 10,000 miles a year (only 500 miles on a Ebike) and on the third year with a Tourney rear derailleur, not a problem. The biggest con is the 3 inch wide tires and lack of choices in this tire size. There may be zero good choices in fat tires (over 2 inches wide) my conventional bikes all use Schwalbe Marathon Plus, these are the ONLY tire that would pass a DOT test. Schwalbe does not make a 20x3 Marathon Plus tire. I own a Lectric XP 3.0 and immediately filled the tires with Flat-Out military grade tire sealant and have not had a flat in 550 miles or 100% of ownership. 4 inch wide tire option (tire clearance) should be available on any 3 inch tire bike just so we all have a wide choice in tire manufactures. The bike may look a little funny running 3 inch tires under 4 inch fenders...but I don't care, this bike all about work, how much it can carry, range and how dependable. Looks is meaningless when you are 50 miles from home with a flat tire and have to go through the long process of removing the rear wheel for repair. Rear tire flats out number front tire flats 20 to 1.
    I would strongly suggest trailers for children, sitting that high up in a seat on the bike if you crash the children are going to take a strong hit to the pavement. Trailers do mean a more skilled cyclist because of the turning and width, when going close to poles (signs) you don't want to have a pole lodged in between the trailer and its wheel. Remember helmets offer only a level of protection, NOT 100%. I am a highly skilled cyclist with over 50 years of serious riding and professional racing, I would NEVER place my child in a child seat and would only use a trailer with flashing lights and a flag. One huge advantage of a child trailer is traffic will be 1000x more respectful to you being on the road when a child is involved. Put one of those "Child on Board" big yellow signs on the back of the trailer! NOTE: make sure when using a trailer you have a double back-up safety lash (two independent lashes) just in case the trailer hitch fails. And, some inexpensive walkie-talkie's is nice to have and fun for the kids to communicate with you. And the kids can tell you if something may be wrong with the trailer or hitch. Trailers should have the best tire in the world on them only use Schwalbe Marathon Plus tires, they come in 16 and 20 inch sizes for trailers. When using a trailer the bike handles very close to normal, there is no strange handling problems like you would have with kids on the rear rack. Plus kids move, this movement you will feel in strange handling. I tour only with a trailer, the days of loading a bike with panniers and the stupid handling you get from a loaded bike are over for me.

    I’m up to 1900 miles on my Expedition. The handle bars 4 bolts get loose BUT Lectric sent replacement bolts without even questioning - like received in 2 days, amazing, with extra bar stem also. So the service is unreal and with lock tight the bolts won’t get loose. In comments and forums everyone gives advice which solves these problems. Best value cargo bike out there as far as I know.

      They probably knew there was an issue, they need to use loctite on those bolts

      I had this issue also and emailed them but never got a response!! Had to figure it out on my own since I bought the bike when it was first released and had very little information out there.. as with any company, “great product support” should be taken with a grain of salt! 😒

      I added "sandshoes" to mine. Increases total footprint from about 1.75 square inches to over 9 square inches. I can park on grass or beach sand without sinking in.

    How's the kickstand? People seem to whine about that on Reddit.

      It comes loose. Needs to be tightened or maybe some Loctite? I hope it's better on the next version.

    Biggest con and only con for me that is worth mentioning, and makes the bike it not worth buying, not to mention, I think is a major issue; the handle bar riser, it constantly comes loose.
    I’ve retightened it, used blue loctite, then tried red loctite, but still comes loose.

      The telescoping seatpost will, but you’ll probably lean forward a bit to the bars. I’m 6ft with a 32in inseam and I ride fairly upright with the stem at 80 degrees per the markings on its side.

    I think it would be nice for Lectric engineers to comment on some of these criticisms, rather than just “fix them “.
    For example, the loud hub motor probably had to do with having more durable metallic sandwich planetary gears. If the reviewers or the public in general knew that there was an engineering choice between having it be louder, but also more durable versus quieter, but also weaker, most people would put up with the extra noise and stop complaining about it.
    Likewise, as an engineer myself, I know that the lack of a suspension fork was way to keep the cost and wait down. This bike cannot be offered for $1400 if it had a suspension fork that was worth a damn. It was a way to lower the cost without also lowering the quality.
    I see that Lectric is making videos here and there they should make a video series on things like this.

    One large battery seems like it would be better than 2 small batteries. Seems like wasted space. A single battery could be more powerful than the dial batteries.

    • @EbikeEscape
      @EbikeEscape  6 місяців тому +1

      True, but allows them to keep things simple and offer an affordable single battery version without having two different packs. This helps drive prices down.

      Actually 2 is better makes them get more juice from each battery and drains them lower with keeping the power from dropping UA-cam a vid about 1-2 or even one that has 3 battery’s they get more from each and last longer.

    So if you had an issue I would take it to a bike store don't call the company they are very very very very aggressive when you tell him you got a problem they don't want to fix it

    I'm just warning everyone that this company with rip you off ..They don't stand behind anything they sell..
    The accessories they sell aren't compatible with other accessories, but they don't tell you that till you try, then say sorry it's not refundable...
