I have had this issue for the past 3 years, mud from construction sites dried on and no matter how hard I scrubbed the staining never came off. I finally found a sure fire method that's easy and not expensive. First power wash or scrub the mats to get the majority of dirt off then let dry. Second - spray stained areas with WD40 and scrub with a brush (important), I used a toothbrush for the grooves and corners, lastly rinse the mat off with a detergent. If you missed a couple spot do over - but it will come off. Mine look brand new!
Thank you for the video! I have had the weather tech mats in black for years. They are an absolute pain to clean! Mine never look good even after washing and scrubbing for a long time. I agree. The material holds too much dirt. Unfortunately, they don't make the husky mats for my older car. Interestingly, a local dealer said the grey and tan weather tech mats tend to look better for longer. I do use a natural tire shine on my mats to make them look better. They can get slippery though, as you said. Thanks for the tips! Great video!
The Stoner Trim Shine that comes in the aerosol tends to work pretty well and not too slippery. Just make sure to wipe them off to remove any excess after you apply the trim shine.

Purple power and stiff bristle tire brush. Never have to scrub twice and dont have to coat with anything. Has worked perfectly on my weathertechs for over 6 years! Keep up the great videos Pristine!
Purple power gets all the oilfield grease off our trucks that nothing else will, don’t let it sit on the windows too long though. Then you’ll need some barkeeps friend and a soft sponge. Then follow up with simple green. The standard Oilfield truck wash is a soak in simple green then a drive down the highway in the rain. Good for most grime/grease and mud/chemicals.
Try Murphys Oil Soap. This is an age old product that does a Great Job on matts; Outdoor GRILLS; Indoor stoves; stove / hood exhaust etc.. Most chemicals do not lift dirt and in particular dirt mixed with oils. This is right in the wheel house of this product. Once you lather-up the vinyl or rubber matte move out of the sun; let sit for 10 minutes or so, scrub again (you do not have to use more Murphy's just wet the scrub brush with water). Rinse and dry. Then use some Chemical Guys 'Silk Shine Dressing' (I have no relation with them at all). Both products are cheap and the Silk shine dressing dries with no oily residual. The finish will not be a gloss rather a matte finish, i.e., restores & protects the new finish but does not enhance it from a gloss perspective.
I just refurbished my Weathertech mats by painting them with black Dupli-color trim and bumper paint. It dries to the perfect matt black shade and is a flexible paint that should last a long time.

#Pristine I personally prefer the Husky mats over weather tech. Living in Oklahoma the husky holds up better than the weather tech does in the heat. After a few months in southern heat the weather tech mats will begin to fold over and lose there shape unlike the husky ones. Also the rubber finish appears better. I work for a dealership and I have a buddy that owns an accessories shop and we both recommend Husky over the weather tech even though he stocks both there. But good video!
Timboslice5-80 I can definitely see that. I dunno why everyone around here goes weathertech. I think it’s all a marketing thing and everyone knows the name better.

Some OEM plastic floor mats come with warning labels telling you to avoid scrubbing them because doing so will cause more microscopic grooves, pores, and scratches in the material, causing them to get dirty quicker, The best way is to rinse them and avoid scrubbing them unless absolutely necessary. The more you scrub them, the faster they get dirty.

I had weathertech mats in my Frontier. The "heel" area on the driver mat over time because discolored, almost greenish ( I assume it was from the winter/ salt ). They were stiff and the design would allow water to "drain" or run towards the rocker trim. So I had to put a piece of towel there to A. keep the water towards the center of the mat, B. absorb any water that did run that direction. Now with my Sierra, I went with the Husky liners, Xact Contour and they are ALOT better than the WT. They are soft and pliable, not to mention there is a raised "wall" on the outside of the mat so the water should stay "on" the mat as opposed to running towards the rocker trim.
Good video but step one should be do this outside and not inside the shop. That way, you are not cleaning the floor later or breathing in all the chemical fumes.
Did you try the Weather Tech final mat topping? Much easier to use just spray it on the clean mat and let it dry in the sun a few minutes not slick at all.
I get scared with husky liners they look so slick. But with any other rubber floor mats I used to always use interior dressing. It rains a lot in seattle tho so once u get it wet it becomes a slip and slide then it gets on yout shoes and on the clutch pedal 😲😬
My weathertek mats looked bad immediately. First washing didn't clean them nor did subsequent washings. It's like dirt soaks right into the rubber, not happy with this type of rubber. Hope this works, thanks.
@@PristineAutoDetailing Husky also makes custom fitting mats? My son's looking for his car but I warned him about how old WeatherTek looks after a few weeks and that it's a lot of work to keep them looking nice.
Yeah Husky makes custom fit mats and on amazon they sell some knock off versions for a little cheaper that clean up easily as well. I believe the ones I got were called smart liner mats
It looks like just pain WD40 helped me to clean it up after just plain water wash back to nice black almost like original condition. I tried different pressure washing / soaping / decreasing but some residue remained every time. this time just hose quick wash, then paper towel dry, then wd40 with paper towel and it look like I feel I like it this way.
They are expensive, but they work great. I'm not sure there's anything special about the cleaner, but the protectant is awesome. Once the mats are clean and dry, spray/mist the protectant on it and spread it around with a damp sponge, then let dry. Once dry, the mats have the same satin black appearance with just a hint of sheen, and are not slippery at all. Literally look new.

This is included in every stage 2 full detail with do here @ the shop. If someone just wanted this done I would estimate around $30-$50.00 but generally then just go for the full detail.
So... What do you use when cleaning the tan Weathertechs? I'm curious because I'm thinking about getting a set in tan for my car. I wouldn't be tracking more than rainy day mud and water into my car. It looks like the black gets a whiteish, or lighter color discoloration. Does that mean it doesn't show up as much in the tan versions?
I clean the tan the same way as the black. Seems like the gray and tan hold up a little better and don't get so whiteish in color after use. I generally recommend tan or gray to clients if it will at all match up.
@@PristineAutoDetailing Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. That is good to know, since my interior is Ivory. I think the tan will match nicely. BTW, I just got some 3d Maxpider mats for my Ridgeline in black. I like those a lot. They are similar, but very different from the WTs. Time will tell how they clean up or last. But unfortunately they don't make them for my 02 accord. So I'll likely be picking up some tan WTs. Thank so much, this helped me decide once and for all on the color.
Funny you should mention Tire Shine. I sent my Ford Flex to the dealer for repair and had then do a detail job on it at the same time. When I picked my car up they had put Tire shine on my carpet. Do you have any idea on how I remove the Tire Shine from the carpet? I am slipping and sliding every time i get in and out of the car.
I have not tried that but have been really like using Stoner Trim Shine in the Aerosol Can then wipe any excess if needed. Its a lot faster and does a great job on this mats.
Generally we will just use Stoner Trim Shine that comes in a can on the tan and gray mats. Its important to wipe off any extra product after applying though that way they do not stay slippy.

I would most likely use Stoner Trim Shine after cleaning or I have not tried out yet but WT has a kit to clean and condition the mats. www.weathertech.com/techcare/cleaner-protector-kit/
Hello, my situation is a little different. Basically, I ended up getting a new car that is the same as my old car, but it is black instead of grey. Do you think using the solution finish black on grey mats would adequately recolor the mats?
No, as long as you don't get crazy close to the mats with the pressure washer tip and use a tip that's a wider pattern. I have gotten pretty close to the mats and it really takes a decent amount to mess them up.
I have a question bud. If I go to the car wash I assume they will remove them to clean and put them back in. Question is ; would that not trap water underneath My Weather Tech mats ? And so how should I deal with that ? P.S. despite the price I'm glad I bought the WeatherTech's because it looks like I'm not going to have to pay to have salt removed next spring. And I don't want the salt in there eating the shit out of my near new flooring carpet.
I see the appeal of these for work trucks, but honestly... You're probably fine with OEM floor liners if you're just an average driver, with the biggest exception being if you live in the salt belt. I know the OEM ones won't run up the front to give the same coverage, but they're usually a softer less slippery material. Weathertech liners are pretty slippery as they come and really aren't super good at anything they do. I had a pair of WT Liners in my 2010 Fusion since I didn't get ANY front floor mats when I got it used and I was not overly impressed with them. With them running up the firewall, they're a huge pain in the ass to pull out if you spill something or have a liquid you need to get out without access to a wet/dry vac making it more likely that you're gonna spill on the carpet anyway; That goes for driver and passenger front positions. My 2016 Legacy came with rubber mats, and ya know what, I take a carpet cleaner to the carpets in the spring and fall as I switch the mats from Rubber to Carpet and it's fine.
@@MrPink2024 You're right... I don't... ANYMORE. I wouldn't waste my money on them again. I buy new cars and make sure the manufacturer puts in their rubber mats. The weathertech I had were extremely slippery compared to my current cars OE rubber mats, and as a driver I don't want a slippery floor mat for me or my passengers. They were also IMPOSSIBLE to get out of the front floorwells to empty without spilling liquid to get them out, even sliding the seats all the way back. So yea, I clearly don't own them anymore. They're JUNK.
@@PristineAutoDetailing I know that Armor All leaves a ridiculously slick feel after applying. I did some research since my comment and 303 Aerospace protectant is what a lot of people are switching to when it comes to interior detailing. Has the same results with a matte finish. Ordered a bottle and will be trying it out. Also a tip I learned in the vid...apply the product using one of those cheap black foam paint brushes, then rub in and wipe away excess with a micro fiber cloth. May help you with your applications as well in those nooks and crannies!
I tried the Solution Finish product but got a bad result. I find that it leaves an oily black residue that rubs off easily with just a light touch. This is very disappointing because the liner looks good but I'm not going to put it in my car in this condition. I hope it washes off! Has anybody else had this result?
You will want to wipe it with a rag or towel you can trash after words. Ill generally wipe 15 min after applying till little to no transfer is getting onto my towel. You want the product to absorb into the material. It won't stay shiny and oily if wiped off.
Great video; I'm looking forward to trying it out! Quick question: how slippery is the mat after using the Solution Finish? Many have commented below about other products being slippery. Is the Solution Finish slippery too?
Thank you! I don't find it too slippy personally but I do find myself using Stoner Trim Shine w/ a final excess wipe down after spraying easier than using the solution finish.

Reminds me of bob ross. Just beat the devil out of it !
I will have to check out the maxpider mats!
Thank you for your video!
303 vinyl cleaner work good.
Hey Joe! I do like the 303 vinyl products 👍
Thats horrible! Have you tried a degreaser or all purpose cleaner and a couple towels? That may help. I would def. be calling them.
Has anyone had their mats look like they have oily spots? Mine are tackey on both sides, do they start to break down after a few years?
Hi Todd
Another video cleaning black mats, try cleaning tan colored mats! Stains are impossible to get out.
where can you buy Solution Finish in Canada

Name and where to purchase the items used to do mats
How do you think a liquid shoe Polish would work?
Not too sure really Victor. May be worth a shot as long as it doesn't get slippy?
What do you think about using mother's back to black on these floor mats versus solution finish?
I have not tried that but have been really like using Stoner Trim Shine in the Aerosol Can then wipe any excess if needed. Its a lot faster and does a great job on this mats.
@@PristineAutoDetailing Thanks for the info and video. I'll look into that.
What do you use on tan floor mats to make them look new again since Solotion Finish doesn't come in tan color?
Generally we will just use Stoner Trim Shine that comes in a can on the tan and gray mats. Its important to wipe off any extra product after applying though that way they do not stay slippy.
What kind of all purpose cleaner???
Stoner Solutions All Purpose Cleaner was used here. The P&S Enviro Clean works well too!www.detailedimage.com/wax.php?id=47733&url=detailedimage.com/PS-M110/Enviro-Clean-Degreaser-P2342/16-oz-S1/
Can y’all post more than once a month? Thanks
AtomicCheeseburger69 Yepper! Got enough content finally and gonna try once a week.
Great video. What is the name of the cleaner and solution you used to finish them? I couldn’t quit catch it. Thanks.
Hey Thank you Frank!! I used Stoner all purpose cleaner and then finished with Solution Finish Trim Restorer.
@@PristineAutoDetailing I have Gutter Brown mats....is there a color match product?
What do you use on the WT mats in tan? Solution Magic has grey or black but no tan nor brown that I have seen. Curious
Solution finish black would not work on grey mats.
I would guess if you painted them they would chip and scratch fairly easily as well.
Will pressure washing these mats mess them up?
We always make sure the back sides of the mats are dry before we put them back in. We love WeatherTech mats especially during the winter months!
I have gray what do I use.
I generally will just use Stoner Trim Shine in the aerosol container. Once they are sprayed ill wipe down any excess that way they are not slippery.
You clearly don't own WeatherTech floor mats. 👎
Do you think NuVinyl would do just as good of a job versus that solution finish? Or ArmorAll protectant gel?
I have not used either of those products but I would say they would be worth a shot as long as they don't get super slick on the shoes.
Husky mats fit better too
I tried the Solution Finish product but got a bad result. I find that it leaves an oily black residue that rubs off easily with just a light touch. This is very disappointing because the liner looks good but I'm not going to put it in my car in this condition. I hope it washes off! Has anybody else had this result?
You will want to wipe off all the extra residue on the mats that didnt absorb into the material.
You will want to wipe it with a rag or towel you can trash after words. Ill generally wipe 15 min after applying till little to no transfer is getting onto my towel. You want the product to absorb into the material. It won't stay shiny and oily if wiped off.
@@PristineAutoDetailing Thanks, I'll give that a try next time.
Coronavirus cough from early 2019 already...
lol for sure man!
@@PristineAutoDetailing Thank you! Yes, I can see where a spray would be much easier to use to get into crevices!! I have that too! So maybe I’ll give that a try too!😉
Does he have chew in his mouth at the end lol?
Most likely I did not in the video but due to Bad habits over the past 17 years my lip tends to always look like that. 😭
What the... I just had some major Deja Vu for some reason...
Im gonna try wd40
NO NO
Yep easier to get the ye olde. regular. mats ..Way too much effort for a product that says how easy they are ..to maintain ..So not worth this work ..ever
They are not rubber…..
What bottles are you using in the beginning of this video?
I purchase them through US Plastic Corp. They are around $2.00 each!! They hold up really well and have a wide mouth so its easy to pour in whatever product you are using. I generally buy 20-30 of them at a time. Link below

Pristine Auto Detailing thanks!!!
I just wax mine and use protectant and keeps it looking new
What protect did you use ?
Does it make it slippery?
Mothers protectant and makes it abit slippery but not to bad
With seeing this makes me regret buying them the price was outrageous ! 😡
The cleaning process in commercial is total BS !
