When I worked as a history teacher in high school, I used to play Sabaton often and we had large historic battle presentations using Warhammer fantasy miniatures during classes. Really helped making my class popular
Question: Would you do the same with using Memoir '44 , Tides of Iron, or Flames of War to teach World War II?
@@isaiahwelch8066
Honestly, as a high school student myself, anything like that will get kids into history. Make it fun, make it interactive and high energy. The glorious rise and bitter fall of empires, the coming of new eras, the brutality of battles etc, you have to actually set in the reality of the fact that they are learning history. They are learning the world and the reality people just like them have faced in the past.
@@isaiahwelch8066 Yes, sure. The games are not the point, since we did not play Warhammer. I just used miniatures to visually depict historic battles. When I taught WW2 I used tank models I collected and painted from various manufacturers in combination with Warhammer Empire handguners and Dwarf thunderers since those are the only miniatures I have with guns... Tabletop games and miniatures are irrelevant, anything can be used
The world needs more history teachers like that. I would have had much better grades 😂
@@sayaphantom6385 Thank you very much. It means a lot. I have always loved history, but hated history classes, so I decided to do something different as a teacher. I created a completely new class called "Military history" where we learn about tactics, equipment, most important historic battles etc. When the topic was the Battle of Agincourt I dressed one student into my plate armor as a show piece to demonstrate how difficult it actually was to kill an armored opponent and the student had a chance to try holding various longswords, arming swords, maces etc. and draw 80 pound longbow so they would appreciate what those people went trough
"Crowned by God, not but the church, as my power is divine."
Carolus Rex basically bypassed the church and said that his power was given to him by God, making the church's power significantly smaller.
like it was in Sweden.. the Church did not have any power of anything.
Protestantism ftw!
Mind this is less about the power of the Church per se than the fact that in Swedish Protestantism the King of Sweden was Gods representative on Earth basically the same as the Pope in Catholicism. Hence why he, King Karl, viewed himself as above all oaths to the church.
@@jigsaw3295 It had power before the reformation
aka absolutism
It is indeed about king Charles XII of Sweden, he was 15 years old when he was crowned
Though Charles XI died when Charles XII was 14
@@Kaadilac Charles XII "Carolus Rex" died when he was around 35 or 36 years old, there is this conspiracy theory that his own men shot him on purpose in the battlefield
He died 1718....(30 november)
@@alanrobles6787 I know. I was talking about his predecessor
@@bondeboy2715 no he didnt? Charles XII was born in 1682, and Charles XI died in 1697 before his birthday, so for a few months after his death, he was 14. I think you may have misunderstood my comment?
If you want some depression as a follow up, try “Long Live the King” - the song about the funeral march of Carolus Rex.
Yeah it's in the lyrics first stanza. He was 15
@@silverfang63 He was 15 when he was crowned yes, not when he died.
Scott Cesarz If I remember the Sabaton History video right he died in his 30’s.
Possibly mixing up the two songs? It does happen
he should listen to a lifetime of war
Carolus Rex (Karl XII) was born 1682. He was crowned king 1697 and he died 1718.
Sabaton:
To Hell and Back
Primo Victoria
Night Witches
Resist and Bite
Attack of the Dead Men
Ruina Imperii
Back in Control
The Price of a Mile
I was thinking decades of war yes it's slower but I feel like it would be a good listen to show how versatile the band is in terms of both vocals and in sound
All are awesome, Night Witches is really fast paced tho!!!
Hell, just do all of Sabaton
Sabaton:they haven't bad songs...
That’s exactly what sabaton is. History class on steroids and metal
"I have resolved never to start an unjust war, but never to end a legitimate one except by defeating my enemies." - Carolus Rex
That dude drumming is the one who took FLOOR from me hahahahah
Carolus Rex, you may not know, is Latin for "King Charles." I know this because North and South Carolina are both named for a British king named Charles. Ergo, "Carolus" is Latin for Charles, the way "Carolina" is.
it gets kinda messy too, cus his name is actually karl in swedish. translated to charles which i believe is the french version of the name and the more common use. and also, as you pointed out, carolus is the latin version.
@@thekillingtomat Carlos also :)
Would be so much easier if we all just spoke Latin.
@@thekillingtomat his name was Karl- it doesn’t matter what the English version of it is his name was Karl, so why call him not Karl?
Sabaton: WINGED HUSSARS, also 82nd All the Way, Sparta but WINGED HUSSARS!!
82nd all the way
I’m a simple man, I see Sabaton, I hit the Like button.
I highly suggest listening to Sparta. As you might think, its about the 300 Spartans against the Persian Army.
Theres honestly so many good songs, its hard to choose any single one to suggest, so Im gonna do em all.
Last Stand, Panzerleid, Primo Victoria, To Hell and Back [that one I cant recommend enough], Rorke's Drift, and theres just so many that I cant remember them all.
Many, many years ago, when Persia came ashore
Heeding Leonidas' call, the Spartans went to war
Joined by their brothers, a few against the fateful horde
Hellenic hearts are set aflame,
The hot gate calls their name
A final stand, stop the Persians, spear in hand
Form a wall, live to fall, and live Forever
Sparta! Hellas!
Then, and again, sing of three hundred men!
Slaughter! Persians!
Glory and death, Spartans will never surrender!
Morning has broken, today they're fighting in the shade
When arrows blocked the sun, they fell,
Tonight they dine in Hell
By traitor's hand, secret passage to their Land
Know his name, know his shame will last forever
Sparta! Hellas!
Then, and again, sing of three hundred men!
Slaughter! Persians!
Glory and death, Spartans will never surrender!

Panzerlied? You mean Panzerkampf?
Mr. Rock N Roll: So viewers, what Sabaton song do i react to next?
Viewers: YES!!
Listen to "final solution" by sabaton. Such a sad story, but an amazing song
And this Final Solution by Sabaton is so great!! \m/ Would love to see that one too! :) \m/

The winged hussars arrived
Listen to the Swedish version, it has more of a deep feeling to it. Most songs on this album was in Swedish :-)
Swedish version is way better.
Yes! The Swedish versions of that album are amazing!
I'm not even Swedish but I prefer the Swedish version for almost all the songs on Carolus Rex. I do know Swedish though since I've been learning it since March of 2017.
The only songs I prefer in English are Caroleans Prayer because during the prayer they switch to Swedish and Poltava.
@@HALberdier17 why do you want to learn Swedish?
@@MerkGBG because its beatyful like almost every germanic language
Hannes wasn't even with Sabaton when this song was recorded...
This album was recorded with the old line-up, before the band fell apart. After that the drummer was replaced with Robban Bäck for the Swedish Empire tour. The tour for thir album.
Then Robban went on paternity leave and was temporarily replaced by Snowy Shaw. And when Robban wasn't going to come back, that's when they hired Hannes...
Carolus XII of Sweden was 15 when he ascended the throne and spent his entire reign (nearly 30 years) at war with powers in Europe (Russia, Protestant Princes)
damn his greed. he won the war but wanted total annihilation and that cost him the empire and my nation went to russians for 200 years.
The english version is great, but the swedish one is just so much better
Charles XII was a Swedish king who inherited the empire while he was still a teen. He quickly got involved in a war with Denmark, Poland and Russia, all of whom though he'd be an easy target. He went about to kick the rear end of all three of them repeatedly for a while. But he made the same mistake as Napoleon and Hitler; he went deep into Russia. That massive mistake ended up costing him his elite army, a leg injury and being stuck in Constantinople for a while. When he came back to Sweden, all his enemies returned for round 2 (including Poland and Denmark who had dropped out of the war)... This time, the king was not able to push them back and died when besieging a Norwegian fort/city... The Swedish empire would go on to loose most of its lands outside of Sweden per say as well as its status of regional power. Russia would go on to establish St-Petersburg on one of the territories gained from Sweden.
The battle of his defeat against the Russians on the fields of Poltava is also a Sabaton song from the same album. The song is titled "Poltava"
yeah i think dont fucks with Russia is the lesson here
Semi_Serpentine no, the lesson is: LOGISTICS, something that makes russia impossible to invade as it’s logistical hell.

Much love to you from Sweden 🇸🇪 ❤️
Much love to you from the US
Now the Swedish version please!
Finally more Sabaton! Wooooo! Dont forget to listen to more of them! :D
Finally the best Sabaton song. Now the best Blind Guardian sing, Mirror mirror.
Eh, Valhalla from Imaginations through the looking glass is the best from BG
Wrong. Mirror mirror is, followed by And the story ends, Bright eyes, Sacred, Into the storm.
Yep! I love it when they do those key changes! Instant goosebumps!
Love your energy man! keep it up :D
Out of all the amazing guitar solos by Sabaton, I must say this is my absolute favorite.
Hahaha Omg, Your reaction takes all prices, Love your honestfull (don't know if thats even a word or if I just made it up) energy! Keep on going strong and keep on rockin!!! Take care of yourself in these crazy times, all the lov3 and best wishes from Stockholm, Sweden!!! 🇸🇪👍🤗💯
PS:
Btw, Love your Joakim-moves, you know what I mean! Seen you do them in the few Sabaton reactions I've watched so far, will go through your videos and see if you have more Sabaton! I hope so, because watching you makes me happy! Sidenote, I've had a really crappy week, but watched your reactions now for the past half hour and been smiling and feel happy for the first time this week, and its half an hour past midnight here in Sweden now, so you know that really my whole week has been bitter! Just sickness and hospitals etc. Just want to jump through my phone, hang out with you over a beer ( or 7), listen to Sabaton and other music I can show you from Sweden I'll think you'll enjoy, laugh, cry, talk, sing, sleep and so on....Never felt so happy watching reactions like I do watching yours, so I say Thank you very much and Take Care! New subscriber here! DS
Dude I'm telling ya, ur reaction and my reaction listening to the first time where similar I mean it's finally good to see someone feeling the song to the best👏🏻👏🏻
ATTERO DOMINATUS!!!!!!! Please (Woodstock 2012 edition)
Berlin is burning
There’s a song by Amon Amarth called the berserker on stamford bridge. It’s about a lone norseman who single handedly held off the English army back in 1066. Idk if you like folk metal but it’s a badass song
MAN I LIKE YOU! Have my humble subscription, good Sir!
I always love it when they bring in the choir.
"For fifteen years I have waited to sit upon my throne"
I'll throw out a Sabaton suggestion that I haven't seen yet: Carolean's Prayer. If you like the chorus sound in this (and it looks like you did), you'll love hearing them do the Lord's Prayer in Swedish, which sounds badass
Saddest part is as a high school student I know more about this stuff than the teachers do.
Hear hear. Hello from Sweden. As a sabaon fan i LOVE this video. :) Its old but still keep on keeping on.
The Carolean's Prayer and Gott mit uns are two other reaction-worthy songs from that album, really good stuff - and the bonus song Twilight of the Thundergod - an Amon Amarth cover
The drummer in the studio version is just a decorator/carpenter/tiler from Falun who co-owns, with his brother and father, Mullbacks Måleri AB.
Love Sabaton! More more more!!
I listen to this particular song on my way to work i hype me up qyite good.. 😂😂💪🙏
I'm Voting Last Stand. I don't think that song gets enough love.
You should react to "Sabaton History" videos, that channel has the explanation of most of these amazing songs!
Another great bass/baritone singer in Metal is Francesco Cavallieri, the lead singer of Wind Rose. I recommend "The Returning Race", "Drunken Dwarves", and "Diggy Diggy Hole" by them. 😎🍺
The year is 2020 and Power Metal reigns supreme. This is my favorite album hands down, perfect song to lift weights to right here.
You got to do ”The Last Stand”. Its freakin’ amazing and the title track from their last album.
Always enjoying watching your Sabaton reactions. Take a look at "The Final Solution" from Sabaton. A very deep and sad song. Quite different from all their other songs.
1:13 when you realize that what you're about to witness is so much more awesome than what you thought it was going to be
1:18 when you realize that you were not at all prepared
I love your reaction😊😂
The first time I heard this track (via a reaction video - but it was so good I had to jump to the original vid) - it blew my mind! I now listen to Sabaton daily. Amazing band.
On that note - you have to react to "82nd all the Way" by Sabaton. It's about Sergeant York.
5:37
Your reaction to the guitar solo was priceless! 🎸
Not on this album.
That was their previous drummer on Carolus Rex.
Their current drummer, Hannes Van Dahl is married to Floor. He joined the band in 2014 this song is from 2012.
"NIGHT WITCHES" next! It's about the Russian female Night Bomber Regiment. The history behind the song is quite interesting, but basically the Germans called them that, because they used to turn off their engines when close to the target and glide silently while bombing the F out of the nazies.
Love from Sweden bro =)
You have to do Night Witches man! You're ready!
YESS my favourite band
Just went and saw them in St. Petersburg, Fl. Oct. 5. OMG ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!! They even had the tank on stage. More of a smaller venue BUT AMAZING!!!! Met some GREAT people. I've got an amazing son cause without him it would have NEVER happened. Long crazy drive both ways BUT WELL worth it. As a matter of fact our new friends and us are going to do this AGAN!!!!!
19 people clearly don’t like historical songs haha talking about the dislikes of course! Although I love this song, band and the reaction! (I’m Swedish btw so that makes sense haha) 😂👏🏼

You must react to Lion from the north from the same album.... It will blow your mind!
Awesome reaction :D
Oh lord.... this is gonna be a GREAT one :) I get to see them next month :):)
it really is a beast of a song! love it! you should try to listen to the sweedish version, even if you dont understand sweedish, his voice is so much better when he is singing in his native language (and yes it is incredible in english but even better in sweedish) you can hear more emotion, and the song sounds more insense, atleast in my opinion.
Anyway great reaction! \m/ have a good one :)
Great reaction man this song is awesome and this album Carolus Rex is one of the best metal albums in this decade, please react to more Sabaton, i have a request it´s a song of this album is called "Carolean´s Prayer" it´s about the Swedish soldiers that serve the kings Charles XI and Charles XII, they was the elite army of that times, they have numerous victorys even againts larger armies, i hope you made a reaction about that song.
My favorite Sabaton song!

Carolus rex's confidence is incredible
Ooooh, my favorite Sabaton song! :D
Attack of the Dead Men needs to be the next sabaton you listen to!

Love the fucking energy !!! New sub
Sabaton Price of a Mile live at Wacken 2019
i actually visited the church where charles XII was buried this summer. at the same church gustav II adolf (Gustavus Adolphus) is also buried who, if you didnt know, the song Lion of the north is about.
its pretty cool, some of swedens greatest kings and their families are buried there and the walls are pretty much covered with different coats of arms and heraldry from nobles who served under these kings. its also one of the oldest buildings in stockholm. and i believe swedens first king was also buried there or something
2:15 No, the guy drumming (Daniel Mullback) is a decorator and tiler from Falun. He now owns the company along with his brother. He is also the drummer of Civil War.
Lion from the north
Live Woodstock that is pure energy!
One of the craziest things about the video is when they show the Swedish Caroleans (what the soldiers were called) advancing toward the enemy position in squares and when they are hit by artillery and something like two fifths of the formation are knocked down (presumably killed). What do the rest of them do? They just close ranks and continue marching until they are told to stop, drop to a knee, aim and fire at the enemy with their muskets. I'd wager that it takes an insane level of conviction and discipline not to break into a rout and flee the battlefield in sheer panic in that situation.
This is true for modern soldiers seeing their fellow soldiers die in front of them too of course, but it's still a different thing to calmly and in complete concert advance in formation, seeing the enemy fire their muskets and cannons at you, killing your friends and still keep the same pace and discipline.
He became king at 15 and before that he was partying like Mötley Crüe, so people were really worried. But as a king he became an exeptional war strategist and leader. But he fought three neighbouring countries at the same time, Denmark-Norway, Sach-Poland and Russia. They were allied against Sweden because they thought it was an easy target with such a young and inexperienced king. Karl took Denmark-Norway and Sach-Poland and held off the russians for a long time. But he emptied Swedens resources to finance the war and eventuelly lost a battle against the russians in Poltava 1709. That is considered the end of Sweden as a Great Nation. Karl was eventually shot to death in Norway.
But the king who made Sweden an empire was Gustav II Adolf, also known as Gustavus Adolphus - The Lion From the North. He is considered as the creator of modern warfare. Sabaton has a song about him aswell.
When you're chosen by heaven, Hard to argue with it. Greetings from the Motherland
This was uploaded the day before I went to see Sabaton live.
Hair standing here aswell 😂👌🏾
This number is recorded with the “original” (or first, call it what you want) drummer: the beast Daniël Mullback. He is now the drummer of Civil War, which is also an awesome band
"Five Finger Death Punch - Wrong side of heaven" is going to make you cry and bang your head in the same time! Greetings from Hungary ,Bro!
For anyone that will see this: This song shows why he's considered one of Sweden's greatest kings, aswell as one of the kings with the worst case of hubris.
King Charles XII of Sweden (Karl XII) was put on the throne at an age of 15. People thought he wouldn't last long, that he was just a boy. Early on he bypassed the church and said he was crowned by God, making him hold the most power in the land, the church had no more saying in most things. he had a unique and utterly terrifying way of waging war.
The Caroleans (soldiers in his army) would march as one, until they "could see the whites in their enemies eyes". They would stand as one, aim, and fire of a volley. This would decimate the enemy ranks, and completely destroy their morale. Imagine this: a huge army marching as oen towards you. You shoot at them, kill one. They do not break ranks or even acknowledge that they lost someone. They march at you, because in their head they know that if God wants them dead, they will die, otherwise their enemy will die. Then they all stop, aim and just unleash a horrible wall of death at you, killing most of your brothers in arms and wounding many others.
During the Great Northern war Denmark, Saxony-Poland and Russia delcared war against the Swedes. Within a week Denmark surrendered when Charles XII marched across the frozen Sea and surprised them at their capital.
Saxony-Poland would last another month or so(can't remember exactly).
And then only the greatest foe in Europe stood left. Russia, like they ahd before, used the scorched earth tactic as they fell back into their land, burning everything to nto give the Swedish army any food. At Poltava the Swedes suffered a great loss with many dead and the rest of the army on full retreat. Once back in Sweden Charles XII ordered the remaining army to march on Norway. But outside of the fortress of Fredriksten he was shot in the head and died. No one knows to this day if it was an enemy or friend that shot him. And the army marched back to Sweden, to bury their king.
He is by far the most known swedish king, and my personal favourite to learn about. It's up to each and one of you to pass judgement on his actions, Heroism or Folly? Was he a great King, or a king filled with hubris and madness?
Killing Ground by Sabaton is a great follow up to this song.
Also the Last Stand by Sabaton
