I'm not positive about this and not particularly inclined to verify it at the moment, but I would bet good money that the hymn is part of the Lutheran protestant church psalms that has been translated into many different languages over the years as I've seen many reactors comment that they recognize the melody from church.

The Royal Guard is one of the oldest (if not the oldest) continuously active military units in the world (Since 1521, 16 men as first guard troop). Its mission is to protect the Swedish monarch. This song is Sabaton's tribute to this unit And even though I am not Swedish, I feel a patriotic feeling for Sweden with this song .... which feels a bit strange.

This was an "anthem" mayde for the 500 anniversary of the Swedish royal guard the "Livgardet" (Life guards). Livgardet is one of the oldest military units in the world. Founded in 1521 by the to be King Gustav Vasa. 16 men from Dala region was made his guard and unit still after 500 years guards the royal palace and the monarchy in Stockholm.

The music video depicts the skirmish at Bender where King Charles XII was staying after his defeat in Russia in 1709, the Ottomans came to arrest and evict him basically but he along with a few of his Royal Guard fought off against almost 4000 enemies. The events from the diary of Axel Erik Roos reads like a movie. They were fighting hand to hand inside a house. The King was almost shot in the face, so close in fact that it burned his eyebrow off and tore off a piece of his earlobe. He caught a sabre with his bare hand and killed his attacker. They scared the turks away so they shot flaming arrows at the roof and it caught fire, while they were reloading their pistols Axel Erik turned to his King and said something like "wouldn't it be more glorious to die facing your enemies, rather than to burn alive?" Charles promoted him on the spot, then they bust open the door firing their pistols and drew their sabres and charged into the enemy. They were captured and brought to the local vizier, Charles was so happy and confident that he fell asleep in his chair still bleeding from his face and hand.

The main melody is a Church Hymn, written by a German back in like 1677, but was mostly forgotten until the mid 1800's where a Danish composer wrote a text to be a part of the offcial psalm book of hymns.
In late 1800's and early 1900's it got translated to Swedish and Norwegian respectively.
It is probably one of the most recognized psalms in Scandinavia, as it is used for christmas and funerals and more.
It is known as Fairest Lord Jesus or Beautiful Savior or Beauty around us in English.

Sabaton did this song to celebrate the 500th year of service to the Swedish King/Queen and Royal Family. I've seen the Swedish Royal Guard when I visited Stockholm some years ago. The Swedish Royal Guard look absolutely stunning in there uniform of Blue and Yellow also Gold Helmets. Our Royal Guard in Britain are absolutely brilliant as well. 💂‍♂️💂‍♂️💂‍♂️💂‍♂️🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

You're right that the events of this video is before the Swedish one with the feast.
It's based on the Skirmish at Bender, which is located in today's Moldova, but was part of the Ottoman Empire back then.
The Swedish king Karl XII was spending time there after his crushing defeat against the Russian Empire in Poltava.
He overstayed his welcome and the Ottomans wanted to force him out. It resulted in the Ottoman troop attacking his residence.
Karl and his royal guards eventually had to surrender and they were captured. They were released shortly after and Karl headed back to Sweden.

      Yeah.
Funny thing though is that if we talk actual numerical order, then Karl XII was actually the 6th Karl, not the 12th.
Karl IX was in fact Karl III. His brother Erik XIV wasn't the 14th ruler named Erik either.
They took the numbers due to the script made by archbishop Johannes Magnusson, which contains a long list of Swedish kings.
Many of whom most likely has never existed.

this song is actually a translation of live guarded (forgive me for misspelling). if they sing about their own history, they tend to make a Swedish version, and then also an English version of the same song. i mean, why wouldn't they :) so YES it might sound familiar, and that's exactly why ;)

The Swedish King at the time was scared of his divine life, so he installed his own personal lifeguards.
Which is basically the direct translation of Livgardet.
The Danish monarchy would follow over 100 years later (only 360 ish years old) and a few years later the British monarchy.
In Sweden, Denmark, The UK, the daily guard change is a huge spectacle, since they are still following over 300 year old parade patterns. And yes they are actually armed with real loaded military rifles.

My father in law did his military service at the royal guards. Our King was a little kid back then and was not at all popular. You see the RG had to salute a royal member whenever they entered the room and our current king would go down to the RG on and on and on just to mess with them to drop their sh*t and salute. All day- every day....
My father in law basically only liked his horse xD

They are all very interested in old buildings, 1000 year old churches etc, but they doesnt know much.
I dont mean to be rude, they are very friendly and kind, but it have always fascinated me how less the knowledge outside their own country are. First time they had plans to visit Sweden they bought tickets to Switzerland 😄

So basicly, since 1523 (499 years this year) there’s not a second gone by without at least 6 guards att full mount by the castle of the Royal family in Stockholm Sweden. 🇸🇪🤗

Its the carolines this is about one of the most ruffles times in Swedish history.
If there's ever a war in Sweden this is what you will end up meeting! But not for king county and falg anymore! But for family and friends. The people of Sweden is in a state of deep sleep! But some of us has the viking drum beating inside of us. And it never gose too sleep. Or at least to we are dead! And if im going to die in war I'm going to take as much of the invaders with me as possible.
Read about Sweden in the 1600th.
We actually did some of the carolines march when i was in the infantry in Jämtland.
The carolines and sweden as a super power ended in poltava witch is now in Ukraine. The Russians are saying to day that we never forget the battle of poltava. I guess not but we know that it took the Russians 51000 Troops in compassion to our 23000 troops to win. So strongly outnumbered the carolines still stood fast shoulder to shoulder for god king and country!
