  • We spend five days on tropical island, Utila learning to SCUBA dive at the Utila Dive Center. We had the best time breathing under water, exploring the coral reef, and swimming with dolphins! This travel vlog shares our experience learning to dive as well as taking the ferry to the island from mainland Honduras and spending time in the town of Utila.
    Huge thanks to Utila Dive Center for hooking us up with this rad experience:

    And thanks to our awesome instructors that not only taught us to dive, but also helped us film while we were learning new skills:)

    Something interesting about the Bay Islands is we actually used to be part of British Honduras a few hundred years ago. That’s why most of the people there speak English so fluently.

    Matt, I'm glad you are keeping the moustache in focus, a lot of folk tell me to shave my 70s relic off, but I've had it for nearly 50years, and my lovely wife said " No " she has never seen me without it, stay safe and healthy 😀🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇸

    You were so lucky to get certified in the Caribbean! I got certified in a Texas lake. Not a great 'first dive' experience. But, from then on it was crystal clear waters in our new Belize home. No matter where or how the PADI gets done, if you are anything like me, you'll be underwater as much as absolutely possible for the rest of your lives. So addictive!

      We are super fortunate. It was a great experience. I've done a lot more diving around the Channel Islands in Southern California since then by working as a captain on a dive boat. Cool different experience, but definitely prefer the warm water 😁

    Wow, was this done recently??? I have not dove in -8-10yrs and looking forward to starting again once this virus settles and I move to Hawaii, planning around Dec 2020. Is there a big bleaching there? The whole reef looked very healthy?

    • @TheTravelingTogetherJournal
      @TheTravelingTogetherJournal  4 роки тому

      Aloha Mario this was filmed about 2 years ago, but no signs of bleaching on any of the reefs that we had seen. Lots of cool soft corals that we didn’t see much of when living in Hawaii👍

    Neat video, looked like fun time. Could only imagine Amie what you thought when that guy walked behind you. Your expression pretty much said it all.

    Awesome trip to Utila guys! I am surprised that water oriented folks like yourselves were not already Certified SCUBA Divers. I did my first Certification in 1968! Been diving ever since, although lately Skin Diving and Snorkeling for the most part. Great skill to have and enjoy! Utila was a place we considered for retirement, but we decided we would have to work with tourists some how to afford it, so, no thanks. Great place to visit though. Thanks

      Yeah. We always snorkeled, but this is definitely a fun new way to experience the oceans we love

      @@TheTravelingTogetherJournal Absolutely! After living on Isla Mujeres for so long, I am pretty safe in assuming my SCUBA Days are over pretty much, and I will happily Snorkel any time I can. I did throw on a tank last year to recover an anchor for my friend because he needed to be dealing with the boat while I was getting it out of the crevice it lodged itself in. Earned a really nice Dinner from that one!

    "Almost as big as your head", as soon as Matt picked that monster burrito thing up I thought that's as big as Matt's head. Looked delicious too, the boleada, not Matt's head.

      Glenn Courtney hahaha. It was tasty. We tried some other spots, but that place was the best (and biggest) boleada

    Diving is fine, but I think surfing is better. Just to get out and do anything at this point in time would be good.
