    These comments are pretty bad. It’s called “Flanderization” for a reason. It’s based off of the simpsons. So him complaining about the Simpson’s being reduced to one character trait (Bart = bad Homer = dumb) is a serious issue that a lot of people have with the series and the change of writers.

      Reminds me of how people critique teen titans GO. How everyone just became a clown in that show whereas they had relatively unique traits in the original show.
      And same as the simpson, I think the later iterations are a lot better than people say they are, even better than the original in places, it’s just the quality varies a lot more that the older stuff.

    I disagree on one of your points, being that they are out of character. If you watch old Treehouse of Horror, their personalities have always been stretched a bit, to be honest, like when they watched Willie die and didn't care, or when Lisa (the rationnal one) guessed that Mr Burns was a vampire.
    (Sorry for mistakes, english isn't my first language).

    • @HyperGolem
      @HyperGolem 5 років тому +37

      At least back then stretching character personalities lead to some hilarity. Nowadays it doesn't.

    • @jeanpaulsinatra
      @jeanpaulsinatra 5 років тому +29

      Ok so let's go through how Lisa discovers that Mr Burns is a vampire. At the start of the short, they're watching a news story about a local peasant being found dead, drained of his blood.
      She notices that they're being fed blood, which even in this reality, would be pretty weird, so she scarpers with Bart.
      Then they stumble upon his hidden vampire lair, where she sees 'Yes I am a vampire' sat on a lectern, followed by vampires chasing after her.
      So she adjusted her views to the reality in which she lived. That's pretty in-keeping with a rationalistic mindset

    I'm not defending modern day Simpsons but Homer once bought a rock from his daughter to keep bears away. He once got his arms stuck in a vending machine only because he didn't think of letting go of the food he was stealing from it. He didn't know the number for 911. He's always been stupid. And even though I do agree it was an exaggeration, I thought the joke of him biting off the wrong arm to be funny.

    • @TheMetastasia
      @TheMetastasia 5 років тому +85

      The first one was actual a smart move by Lisa convinving homer that the rock keeps tigers away because there are obviously no tigers around. In reality there are people that might do things that are illogical to us because in their world view it serves a purpose and the correlation of two things ( Example: Lisa has the stone and there are no tigers around) is enought toi prove their point. It´s entirely different from Homer biting first his arm off and than it´s leg which would at least be funny the first time but not two times in a row. Also gore humor should at least have consequences and not result in Homer magically sewing his Limbs back to his body.

    • @Hafaechaes
      @Hafaechaes 5 років тому +49

      For me, the wrong limb joke was a little bit funny in Happy Tree Friends, a little less funny in Scary Movie 4, and in Simpsons it was *eyeroll*. I too thought it was lazy and poorly executed.

      Eh, it's easy to see that The Simpsons isn't as good as it used to be. But, the caveat is that what The Simpsons used to be is a show that produced Last Exit To Springfield, which is arguably one of the greatest animations ever created and easily the best episode of any animated show to date. The show is still good, but it isn't the same show that produced masterpieces anymore. It doesn't really need to be either, since no other animated show has managed to top the episodes in the legendary season 2-9 run.
      BTW, I would consider 'What's Opera, Doc?' to be the greatest animation ever produced. Nothing else has ever managed to top it, which is impressive considering that it's only 7 minutes long. It's timeless, anyone at any age from any background can enjoy it, and it's absolutely perfect. It's the only cartoon that I feel can't be criticized because it is completely flawless. Everyone should watch it at least once to understand just how good animation can be.

    I agree that the fart one is horrid, but you're way too critical of the first one. In the intro, you praise that the Treehouse episodes can be extravagant, overemphasize characters and situations and just generally try silly stuff. Yet those are the exact things you criticize in the first story. Characters acting illogical, continuity issues et cetera. Also, I don't think the fact that another show has done a joke before necessarily devaluates it. If you come up with a good joke, but then see that another show that maybe 5% of your audience has seen has used it before, are you supposed to just throw it in the trash?

    • @retrogamelover2012

      I think the problem he had mainly was how much the short seemed to rely on fart jokes, which kind are like to comedy like what jumpscares are to horror.
      And it only took until the last 30 seconds to do something much more creative and off-the-wall with the Spiderman parody. I mean, come on, even I thought there were some wasted potential in that regard.

      > Dude, the entire Simpsons family turns into vampires and tries to kill Bart in Treehouse of Horror IV.
      Vampires eat people, don't be tricked by all the pro-knife ear propaganda going around like Twilight. And maybe Marge decided it was just time to turn her family so they could stay together forever.
      Casting helps a ton - Groundskeeper Willie, vengeful angry scottsman that he is, works perfectly as Krueger. If it were Lisa playing the part, it wouldn't be as congruent or as funny.
      But Zombie Simpsons has much deeper issues than just their tendency of never adhering to character. As has been pointed out millions of times: Simpsons always held vapid celebrity culture in contempt. Zombie Simpsons holds it in worship. It's become a complete inverse of what it once was on everything.

No, they had to make him somewhat like Jack Nicholson's character in order for it to make any sense as a short. The fun of Treehouse of Horror is that you never know what you're gonna get from the plot or the characters. It's the shows chance to go a little crazy with the realism aspects that normal episodes possess. When Homer became insane in the "Shining" Parodie he went predator on Marge and the kids with his Homer personality. He didnt became temporarily smarter or dumper to fit the joke. Same goes for every other Parody.
      Here Homer is really dumb, even compared to peter Griffith, 1. first biting his wrong arm of 2. Biting his Leg off afterwards and 3. somehow confused a bag of Candy with a bag of Vegetables. And changing everything to make somehow dumb jokes working isnt experimenting but arbitrariness.

      OK yeah I was gonna respond to this but NewCoastRadio basically hit the nail on the head. Yes, as I said the halloween episodes are designed to experiment by putting the Simpson characters in whacky situations that you couldn't have in a standard episode due to it breaking the show's cannon universe. BUT, although the setting itself could be widely different from the show's norm, the characters themselves have to remain consistent, so that we see how they would legitimately react to it. Otherwise it defeats the purpose of putting them into a strange environment to begin with. The only time you can allow exception to this is when a character has to be purposely altered to fit the plot of a parody, such as Homer playing the crazed Jack Nicholson in the Shining, or for a more exaggerated example, Homer playing the role of King Kong in Treehouse of Horror 3.
      So going to the example in this short, yes you can put Homer in the crazed situation where he is faced with the choice to bite off his own arm, but we need Homer to still act as Homer from the show. And I don't believe the classic Homer we know would be so willing to bite off his arm so quickly without the slightest hint of fear or second thought, let alone accidentally biting off the wrong limb…. Twice.

I hate that... I just watch classic simpsons episodes because the “new”ones suck... too much. Also I’m from mexico and in season 16 the initial dubbing actors where replaced with new ones who make poor imitations of the previous actors (not their fault, but they are terrible) ...I think that makes the show even more pathetic.

I've been working my way through seasons 2 to 9 lately, just for old times sake, and it really does fluctuate a lot between Homer sometimes being too stupid for words and him actually being kind of clever depending on what the story of the week requires. To me, the Simpsons has no cannon. Nobody ages, sometimes the family has money, sometimes they don't. Bart's futures have shown him become chief justice of the supreme court in one episode and a wrecking ball operator in another one... the list just goes on.

    Some of your earlier statements contradict your issues with the OPENING to the 22nd special.
    For example, you stated how these specials are usually exaggerated and set so where it doesn't have to fit with the rest of the shows such as having aliens or even maybe Homer being double stupid.
    Plus, it's the opening. These usually are pretty silly and over the top. Must I remind you the time where they basically were casually killing each other with the kids rolled up in a rub, Homer trying to beat them through it with an object while saying "Beat the lumps! Beat the lumps!"
    I haven't even watched the rest of the video yet, I just wanted to point out how this all came across since you seem to have a pretty strong opinion about openings.

    You’re overthinking the Simpsons way too much. When it comes on, sit back and relax, it’s not that deep.

      The Simpsons didn't make it to the top of the entertainment industry in the 90s being not that deep.

      Just because it's not "deep" doesn't mean it has to be pure shit.

      It just used to be a way better show. Nowadays it seems like it tries to replicate family guy which also used to be significantly better. Sure there might be better episodes than others but the fact is that objectively the show is much worse than it used to be because everyone working on it has given up on putting effort into it because they know people will watch either way.

    The writers don't realise the difference between pop culture references and Jokes. Just seeing these clips from this one episode really irritates me.
    How do they think this is Funny? How do they Not realise that simply putting a popular character/celebrity into an episode or Just Copying a popular film, Doesn't make a Joke?

    "what was the point of homer biting off his limbs in the first place?" ... aww for the joke you just explained you weren't impressed with. Being a joke was the point. Your critism about Homer being too stupid for a tree house of horror episode is a little bit off the mark as well in my opinion.

    9:50 - 10:00: You know what else is basic Simpsons knowledge? Homer caused the events of "Krusty gets Busted". He didn't know Sideshow Bob is the bad guy, but neither did Bart, before he realizes his dad found his weak spot. So really, Homer shares the same enemy with Bart. It's called a cruel irony.

    The best part of this video is that you keep spamming how not funny the jokes are, but yours are so much worse.
    being vindicative and pretend everything is stupid isn't humor

    The interesting thing about this episode is that you can convince somebody not to watch it with one sentence, "There's a segment about Homer getting paralyzed and he can only communicate through farting."

  • @JusticeforLiberty

    I like how triggered people get when they hear the Simpsons isn't really that good

  • @JSRFfanatic
    @JSRFfanatic 5 років тому +1

    So the Diving Bell and the Butterball (the farting episode) is based of the movie and book the Diving Bell and the Butterfly. It's the true story of a man who was completely paralyzed in a car accident but could still communicate through blinking his with his one remaining eye. He went on to write a book and stuff that's supposed to be really beautiful before dying not long after it was published....idk man it doesn't seem like the type of thing made for a treehouse of horror adaptation.

    Easily one of the memorably worst ToH I ever saw. I remember getting older and realizing how much the quality of The Simpsons had sunk towards the end of season 22. When season 23 came out, I really disliked it, even though it had Holidays of Future Passed. ToH was one of the episodes from season 23 that really took the cake for me as being amongst the worst of the episodes of the season.
