Speaking as an animator, the animation is actually pretty good when they do close ups of Chance like at 12:23 but because the camera placements / shots in general are usually so far away from the models, you can see how poorly rendered it is. The moral and lesson of the movie is good. The characters are passable. The execution? Needs work. Story itself is pretty by-the-books despite being confused. And the visuals... Eeeeeeeehhhhh...
@Death Omen That doesn't mean it can't be criticized. When you are selling a product for money, it doesn't matter if you made it in two days with only two people working on it. You should still have to provide some level of quality. It is not necessarily the fault of the animators if they were put under time constraints by whoever hired them for this film, BUT quality animated products HAVE been made by a single person. It would take a LOT longer, but it would be a higher quality result.
It really feels like it would have made more sense or made more of an impact if it showed the puppies play fighting and THEN the real fight where dogs are being killed, maybe making them realise this isn't the kind of fun fighting they're thinking about. Honestly the tonal shifts were pretty whack in this movie.
I think it was the way the line was delivered that really got me. It kind of sounds like some kid yelling it at his friends across the playground. Maybe it actually doesn’t and I’m just weird. Idk
Though the animation is troubled, I actually REALLY like the character models and environments. And despite most of the animation being really bad, their expressions were actually really good. At least I thought so, most of the time. And that's because they looked more like real dog expressions, to go along with the hyper realistic models, but also managed to convey more humanized emotion.
Yeah I fell u it's thanks to dog fighting pitbulls and rottweilers are said to be not friendly but there are I have a rottweiler at my dad's house and she's nice one day I saw a pitbull at a persons house I visited before it was a lover I hope one day dog fighting will stop
If I may recommend the short animated film 'Kitbull' It's adorable, well animated, heartbreaking, adorable, and has a brilliant pay off. It addresses dog fighting better, but more subtle
@@elenacienfuegos8450 It's pit apologist propaganda, and fails to be somewhat realistic with the behaviour of the hound. Pits are fighting dogs, and no amount of propaganda and lies can change that.
@@Cmdrbzrd what are you even spewing about? no dogs are fighting dogs. dog fighting is something humans made up. its a disgusting practice. its existence is to view these dogs as nothing but toys, when theyre literally living breathing creatures with personalities of their own. pitbulls are the sweetest dogs, that are capable of love, and deserves nothing but care and affection. no dog should ever go through the torture that is dog fighting. its not propaganda, its to actually show that dogs are their own being, and not something we humans use as if they are toys from a cheap dollar store.
You know is even more depressing if you think about how the 'happy ending' isn't even really that. Chance, Sugar, and all her puppies would have a next to nothing chance to getting adopted out because of that fighting ring background and will most likely be put down. The puppies cause they were breed to fight with a parent that was a fighter dog, Chance because he was a fighter dog, and Sugar cause the likely hood of her also being breed to fight. Their hardships didn't end just because they ended up in a shelter.
All the obvious flaws aside, I really liked that Haven was a dog shelter, that they all made it there, that Chance still stayed with sugar and cared for the puppies, and that Hannibal and Thor were embodied to watch over them in the form of clouds. I dunno why don’t ask

@Steve Reviews Fun fact, dogs do in fact cry, but not to express emotions. It's usually a much bigger problem is a dog is producing tears. Like health problems and the such. Cats can also produce tears but again, not because of emotions.
For a future review, I would personally recommend a couple movies. "Monster House", which has very much a horror movie sorta vibe throughout it and some honestly disturbing "death" scenes. "Terkel in Trouble", a more obscure danish movie that feels a lot like a South Park sorta thing with some oddly dark moments. and "Help I am a Fish", which while like an average kids movie most of the time has pretty jarring darker and more disturbing moments scattered throughout it which definitely make it worth a look in my opinion.

Shojo Tsubaki, literally the anime film is banned in japan and it covers alot of nasty topics like sex abuse and literally some people cant even get though the whole film for being disturbing
I hate to even say this but the movie simply isn't realistic, there's no such thing as a fighting dog that "isn't willing to fight" or won't kill, these poor dogs are fed gun powder so they're in complete pain 24/7 while also giving them all kinds of drugs that just drive them mad and increase their strength. A dogfighting story can't really hit hard while undercutting how evil dogfighting is.

There's a lot of rescues at the shelter in my town, rescued from dog fighting, or being used as bait dogs, or even rescued from being turned into meals. My friend had rescued a pittie that was bred for fighting (she came from a whole line of fighting dogs), and she became a total sweetheart, but still had trouble around other dogs. My friend's other pittie was rescued from being a bait dog, and she was horrified of sudden movements but again, total sweetheart that loved to sit in your lap. It's horrible to see the ways dogs are mistreated, and just how mistreated any animal is in general.
I kinda agree with your thoughts on the end. The dynamic between two friends having to fight each other is lessened by the Reaper suddenly appearing and killing Hannibal. The Reaper feels more like a surprise final boss just for the sake of having a final boss.
This film reminded me of Watership Down, The Plague Dogs, White God, Chirin's Bell, Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, The Fox and The Hound and even a bit of The Little Fox. I think this movie had various concepts, but instead of focusing on one idea they mixed all in one, which is a shame because the film had potential.

if someone watched it and didn't know about dog fighting and didn't like dogs this almost glorifies it with the training montages it almost looks like a sport
I think this sums up a lot of common issues with message-first writing. The story suffers because the limited time means that only so much can be devoted to actual story elements, which are minimized in favor of getting something specific communicated. Although this takes it to another level. Not only did they double down on the time limit, but it seems that they doubled down on making sure to have people that know the details of this stuff to represent it accurately, at the expense of actual writing talent.
The animation reminds me of like a computer game from 2000s. Not bad perse just not quite what I'd expect from a movie but given the small group of animators it's certainly not as bad as it could look. It's actually clever if you pay attention to who made it
The worst thing about it is that it tried so hard to make something good with a heartbreaking story, but the result was horrible
The only parts of the animation that look ok are the facial movements and the close up shots
@@fabplays6559 That's fair but we must also acknowledge the limited animators and resources in our criticism
@@fabplays6559 I think the animations on the humans are pretty good.. the dogs are okay-ish.. landscape, and cars?... christ.
Godfrey 44 I agree, but criticism should not be dismissed solely for that reason. I got that impression from Death Omen.
It really feels like it would have made more sense or made more of an impact if it showed the puppies play fighting and THEN the real fight where dogs are being killed, maybe making them realise this isn't the kind of fun fighting they're thinking about. Honestly the tonal shifts were pretty whack in this movie.

Same. I don't know what wrong with me! D:
I think it was the way the line was delivered that really got me. It kind of sounds like some kid yelling it at his friends across the playground. Maybe it actually doesn’t and I’m just weird. Idk
This movie feels like when they wrote the script they had 4 different endings, but rather than pick one they went with all of them.
The idea of dog fights makes my blood boil. I hope these people get arrested for the pain they have caused

Kitbull is pit propaganda
@@Cmdrbzrd Elaborate please. How is it pit propaganda?

The idea of fish transforming into slave humans is creepy af and that's the undertone in Help I'm a fish.

My favorite anime! The whole anime is nothing but a tragedy about the world's end. So depressing but also beautiful at the same time. Spoiler alert!!!!!!!! If you haven't seen me anime don't read further.
The ending is even more tragic, the world is literally on its last legs and the wolves fight so feverishly just to open the gates of paradise. But then Darsha has to come and ruin everything. The world ends not in a bang but a whimper, but luckily Kiba just manages to let the world be reborn so they can get a second shot at trying to open the gates once more. :'(

Ending did make me thing and hope everyone can see it. It's so pretty and characters well done as well
There's a lot of rescues at the shelter in my town, rescued from dog fighting, or being used as bait dogs, or even rescued from being turned into meals.
