  • Part 2 where we install the new laser tube. This tube is the newer YL-Laser tube on the omtech site. If you have the original tube, here's a link to Cam over at Edmond's Workshop where he shows you how to get setup.

Wow that was really nice of them to send you a tube that you can put a red line pointer on without a combining lense

Man you saved me. Thanks for this video. How did you even find out how to install this thing? I made it almost all the way by just staring at it for way too long. All I was missing was "put the red cap back on", which is why I never fired the thing up. I didn't want to bet it all on my assumptions, and didn't know how to insulate the positive end properly. Never thought to use that red cap. But we are sure that's okay? Thanks again. Instant sub from me.

It took a minute to figure out. Thought they sent me the wrong one. Reached out to one of the guys who helped me get it replaced and he told me what to look out for. Red cap is made to insulate so all is good. Haven’t had an issue since I’ve gotten it installed. Thanks for watching!

Can you do a video on how to tighten up all the nuts and bolts and also how to tighten the belt?

Hey! Thanks so much for such a great quality video. I got this tube and didn't realize that it was going to be different. I was ready to return the tube and OMtech sent me the link to your video. I would capitalize on that. You should get some monetary compensation in my opinion. Great video. Clear concise and there wasn't a whole bunch of unnecessary noise. I think you have a new subscriber.

Hey thank you for that i'm glad you found the video helpful, that means a lot. I didn't realize they were sending people towards my video. I'll definitely reach out and see if they'd like to collab on a project that benefits the laser community. Thanks again and welcome to the channel.

This was a very informative video. Thank you! Would you say that it's the same installation process for the 60W laser tube (from omtech)? Your video is so much more succinct than a lot of other's that I have watched. Too bad you aren't local. I would pay you to come and do this for me. lol

Thank you glad it was helpful! I would guess that overall the process would be very similar if you're replacing a tube with a new one. Most of the ones i've seen have a similar cable setup if you have the same style of tube.

Thank you so much for your videos, Kimani! I've recently had my 5 year old Glowforge shatter on me (the lid, not the tube) and I'm looking to upgrade and grow into a larger and more powerful machine. Your videos are definitely demystifying the hands-on upgrading/repairing that these machines allow, so I humbly thank you for your efforts and patience! I have two quick questions. 1. Why did you need to replace the tube/how old was your previous tube? 2. I'm torn between the 80W and 100W version of the OMTECH. I'm coming from a 40W machine so either will be a huge boost in power, but do you find the 80W sufficient for cutting or do you ever wish you'd gone for the 100W? I see you also have a CNC so you may not fret over cutting thickness the way I do, but I'm curious how well the 80W cuts plywood over 1/4" thickness. I do a bit of engraving, but I'm mostly focused on cutting wood. Thank you again for your time, and for sharing your experience!

      Thank you!
1.The tube that arrived with the machine had a dead spot in the center and wouldn’t fully power up so it was bad on arrival.
      2. The 80w is nice and has cut up to 1/2 inch for me. Does just about everything I need. If I had to do it again I might still get the 80w, but definitely a larger cutting area and I think I’d need the 100w to make that happen. Otherwise it works well. Having the CNC does help with the larger pieces.

Hey there, your the only person that has done a video of the new tube thank you! Just a quick question, I just got my laser and it’s exactly like yours but they sent me the ceramic piece that I’ve seen people use on the red wire but didn’t see you do that. Any reason why? Because of the red cap?

    • @vanstray
      @vanstray  Рік тому +1

yeah the red cap on the end acts as the insulation for the tube. So unless they made another tube change I dont think you'll need it for setup.

hmm that's a new one for me, sounds like something is loose maybe in the red part. I know there's a tiny screw, don't remember if there's anything else in there. might try picking it up and pointing it downward to see if anything shakes loose or if the rattle stops.

Hi. THanks for sharing this info.
It looks straight forward. Can you clarify the setup of the water inlet and outlet. In the video it looks like you are filling the tube via the outlet port and draining through the inlet port.
ua-cam.com/video/pL2YRUEoKmk/v-deo.html . IF you did reverse the ports, was that the intent and why?
    Thanks

I’ll be honest I didn’t notice that until you brought it up. Laser has been working fine with the new tube, but I’ll check the hoses next time I’m in the shop

    • @vanstray

The original one was defective when it arrived. It was giving a donut shape on my pulses instead of a solid dot. didn't realize that was the issue until many hours of troubleshooting.
