Hi Dave, another great thing with analog is they aren’t afraid of WATER. The only thing I do differently is I use “leak lock” instead of Teflon on the threaded fittings. I have probes and a set of 550’s but still use the 2 valve analog 80% of the time. The hvac police are hunting for both of us for using them on ALL refrigerants 😳😱😱😱 I know guys that it horrifies. Old school no drool. Nice job.
I have the same set up. I wonder if the UA-cam police own 6 different sets of gauges? I put every flavor through my OG 550’s too. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
All refrigerants , all the time , any manifold, any oil , it Does not Matter. as long as Hoses are Rated for oils & pressures.
agreed on leak lock on manifold or pipe dope.
quick tip!
1/4 hex schrader cap fits the sight glass hole, then slip a 7/16 socket over that i think. works a charm
Great info.
Analogs for the win , set of smart probes for troubleshooting and commissioning.
If you worry a system is dirty it's nice to have a set of old beater analogs that you don't particularly care about as well .
Having a good set of reliable analogs you can rebuild is absolutely gold , no sensor to go out of calibration , no electronics to fail , no water damage , none of that ! Great video Dave 👍
I like the probes for sh sc and measure quick app. But I always grab the analog gauges 1st on service calls.
Analog gauges guy here all the way !! Also No batteries needed 💪🏼, good video Dave !
My go to gauge is my Testo 550 because of the easy SH & SC measurements. I have a set of JB Revolvers that I use for quick checks and an ancient set of YJ Titans just for burnouts. The lounge music in the background was perfect for this video, thanks Dave!
I have the OG 550’s as well still working.
I own 5 manifolds total; a Titan 4 port, a brass YJ 3 port, Fieldpiece probes, analog probes and the 52nd SMAN480v made. Love both digi's and analogs, but you can't beat a good set of analogs! Love the rebuild ASMR!
What up Laska aka The joke master. Hahahaha
Smart probes fit right in my tool bag. I grab my YJ analogs when needed. Refrigeration repairs I 90% of time pull vaccum through manifold. New installs and big HP systems I use core removers and megaflow hoses.
Digital Guages Excel at ---
1) No more caring Pt charts in my Shirt pocket.
2) Superheat & subcooling right there.
3) Temperature guage right there. built in.
4) Telling if u have restricted metering device at a glance. High subcooling.
5) Condensing Temp at a Glance.
I like analog gages as well. Only thing is, you have to check the calibration on them from time to time or your SH / SC will be off.
Digital for me is for all the newer refrigerants being released/ mandated. I grew up in this trade with analog ( '99 ) and i still love them. I have a probe kit that i use for smaller/ critical charge units. Larger systems with 22/410, 134/404 i use my analog. I still naturally gravitate to my analog gages. Muscle memory at this point.
Nice clean and simple. 🤟
My set is 35 yrs old and still useable. Good job Dave, technology will fail when you need it most.
Rain or batteries. The digital gauges are nice I have the 550’s but use the analog more on quick service calls.
Diggin' that Lounge Music in the background 😎
Hindsight tells us to do the sightglass first and pressurize it a little to pop it out…
Satisfying little rebuild. 🤌🏼
Good tip. Tony’s tip of the day⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️
Love my 2-valve Titan with the knobs on front - currently have my liquid-filled refer gauges on it for WIC/WIF and auto A/C.
Had to rebuild them 2 or 3 years ago after thy high side started leaking (system running SUPER High head pressure with dirty refrigerant killed the Teflon seat), rebuilding them was very straight forward - used Loctite on all the threads instead of Teflon tape.
Analogs with T's at the hose connection for pressure probes is a killer set-up, especially for troubleshooting a tricky refrigerant issue.
I now have a job as a pipeline operator and we have mobile reg units that are fed by trailers loaded with natural gas and we are used for pipeline emergency or schedule repairs . It’s has been raining non stop so our digital gauges are solar powered threw a satellite that tells the home office our trailer pressure and customer feed pressure. I would not have been able to set reg unit pressure if we hadn’t left the analog gauges in line . Our company is looking for people in California and Savanna Ga .
I still have one of my dads old gauges from the 80s used to have his vaccume pump but I don’t know where it went . Still have a lot of his old test equipment too .
My Titans are from around the same time period & they are Bulletproof.
Great video Dave. 😎👍
Great manifold. It will last us are carriers. Then we can sell to some rookies.
My go to set is Refco from 1989/90, had about three sight glasses, four sets of taps, and probably four sets of gauges, the threads are wearing on the brass adaptors but the still work, oh and the hook fell off where it wore through the brass retaining nut but fixed that by soldering a 7mm nut on the end! Only got to last me another 28 years until retirement!
Exactly I’m 34 years in and only 12 more to go 😂😂😂⚡️
@@NorCal-refrigeration I'm 47 now but out government want to put the retirement age up to 75! so got a few years to go!
@@heavydiesel I’m 54 looking at 66 if possible for retirement
I always like I can see the rate of rise and fall of pressures with analog.
That the one thing with probes is the delay to app watching like a pump down.
Good little rebuild Super Dave ... Thx for posting ... Love YJ products ...
Absolutely brilliant video this Dave! Thanks for taking the time to show us, very useful for alot of people. All the best from the UK.
The only thing I would do different would be to use thread sealant rather than Teflon tape. Great video Dave 👍
careful, not all thread sealants are the same, some will be attacked by oils, while others by refrigerants and some are rated for neither at all! even then a contaminated system may have acidic compounds and blends that will eat it up. if it should escape into the system, a sliver of teflon tape is far less likely to plug, damage or get stuck where it shouldn't( cap tube, sensors, TXV, bearing surfaces, etc.)
@@throttlebottle5906 what about Nylog Blue?
@@daniellynch4575 Nylog is pretty much very thick sticky refrigeration oil, so the right bottle for the systems oil/gas type wont hurt anything.
as for tapered pipe thread, it likely won't seal unless you add teflon tape to the mix(as their data sheets tell you to). pipe threads are rarely perfect cut and ill fitting leaving leaking paths, even if tightened to the point of breaking and shearing off.
they tell you to apply oil, tape over top, then more oil on outside of tape.
Squeaky clean 🧼, love it Dave!
Use "touch all the time, confirm with analog gauges, always within 1 or 2 psi.
The digital equipment is great, battery power, and requirement to always recharge, a pain in the back!
Think I'll "stick with what works well".
ZERO customer complaints, nothing, ever, only compliments!
Great job super tech Dave
Love the buffet music ! Feel like getting a plate of shrimp , waffles and whip cream while.watching this 😂😂
I just subscribed to epidemic music 🎶 so I don’t get the ol copyright strike for 🎶. I thought let’s use this one. Lol
The other great thing about analogue is for those of us that have to sometimes work outside they don't mind getting wet (especially in the UK climate lol). Which is why I still haven't gone digital.
Hey David, I use my analog gauges for service calls and my Testo digital gauges for certification of new equipment..
Isn’t yellow jacket lifetime warranty send it in and they rebuild it and send it back to you for free !! Nice job on the rebuilding 👍👍
No idea? Great heads up if true. But 40$ for the kit is cheap.
Good info. Thanks harry. had no idea - Lifetime warranty- im going to check that out.
@@OcRefrig It says lifetime warranty on the package
@@OcRefrig They warrantees my valve core remover no questions asked
@@harrydickson4575 Sweet , thanks !
The Glycerin filled gauges top off a good set!
Smart are good for ice machine and small unit ,R290 ,you should do a video on hose seals I change mine every season and when they get burgered up
I love analog gauges over digital old school here
Great video! Sorry you never returned my call.
Rick S.
Try again tomorrow I was probably balls deep in calls.
Stopped using digital gauges after my 4th sman needed warranty. Use titan analog 4 way for recovery and evacuation. Use the testo probes for troubleshooting and charging. Sometimes put the probes on my analog.
I’m starting to think analog manifold and probes is the set up.
What's so great about Dave? Because he is the Nor Cal Man. Cooler then a Freezer Evap!
I like my Analogs again after this video. Man I thought you were going to crack that out of site glass? Who's better then Dave?
Always wondered what was the point of the allen head end plugs?
Mate this video was so soothing and relaxing , then you snuck up on me with the fingerbang 🤣
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Excellent video Dave.
And one of the major things about an analog manifold is nobody wants to steal it cuz they're not worth that much money as resale and they do last forever
Excellent point. 🤘⚡️🤘✨
Loving the content! Keep em’ comin brotha💪🏽
ASMR with Uncle Dave
Great video
You make a good point. I have a Titan 4 Valve and Fieldpiece probes. No need for any digitals. Don't see the purpose. I don't need guages to charge, or recover. That's what T- Fittings on the probes are for, but if I want to for some reason, I have my bulletproof Titan Analogs. Don't see why I need to drop a significant amount of money for a setup thats like my analogs, that gives me more information .... but not as much or as well as my probes. QUICK QUESTION.... do they give you torque specs for how tight to put everything back? Or are they maybe available online?.
Hey just wondering how you recover and charge without a gauge set??
Wireless probes attached to a 3-way T fitting as Mr. Winston referenced.
I didn’t look for torque specs great question. I just hillbilly them back together.
I haven't purchased digital yet,I think I will go digital just to look cute for new installations.
I never repaired analog gauges just bought new ,I have two junk sets and 2 good sets when I assume cleanliness.
My hose replacement is more of a concern then rebuilding.
Thanks for the videos!

Nice! They look good as new! I need to get me some of those boots!

@@NorCal-refrigeration Thanks!
I learned on analog in 13 but I became digital fan when i got my first smans . I like seeing everything at once sh sc exact pressure . I agree that digital has there problems and I still have my jb in the bag just incase love your videos but we need better music in this video like maybe the Super tech band lol thanks man appreciate all that you do im still a rookie still learning
Great informative video. Thanx.
I assume the moving parts are leaking a bit (stems), but as for resealing the pipe threaded parts, "if it isn't broken, don't fix it!". 🤔
Rather than using WD-40 for cleaning the manifold could you use brake cleaner since it evaporates quickly? I would think WD-40 would leave residue behind
It dose
I love this video
My only analog gauges are singles. Actually used them a lot. But the rest are digital, Sman's, Testo's manifold then both fieldpiece and Testo smart probes. I guess that I use the job link probes 70% and the single analog 30%
Personally I prefer analog digital does it all for you and I’ve talked to a lot of techs and the ones that use digital only can’t tell you the math without looking it up . Plus batteries, charging and electronics all fail . Not saying digital doesn’t have its place but most tech I know still carry analog as a backup if their digital fails .
You could push this as an ASMR video
I use analog less and less.. compressor burn outs, known systems with dye, and purging with nitrogen. Otherwise its all digital and that is for documentation. Being the world we live in its always a CYA lifestyle. To have live recorded graphs or pressures has become part of being the mobile secretary/mechanic. Stay safe and be well Brothet Dave!
Great points.
Still working with my original JB manifold from 1975, as far as digital goes, it’s an analog world and analog is the only real life way to see what’s going on ! I’ve caught things like a sticking suction valve on semi heretics over the years by watching that needle, digital is useless for such things. Cudo’s on the WD40, you would have lost me if you broke out with the chumps PB Blaster, anybody that’s had to free up a fan motor knows WD40 rules ! And I lubricate the valves with refrigeration oil when I reassemble my manifold, oh and unless I missed it I didn’t see you replace the screens ? If your like me it looks like your not done ! Nice video, the only question I have is what do them end plugs represent ?
Potential leak. Lol
👍
Digital gauges are better residential install. They are faster to vacuum built in Micron. and sometimes add refrigerant.
I still prefer analog for commercial.
👍👍
they work without batteries and require some thought? 😁
Weak point of the analog or digital manifold sets are the hoses. I do prefer the analog gauges.

Hey Dave,
Good video but , " Teflon Tape " in My Personal opinion is a " Big no-no " in Refrigeration or Hvac. Should not even be on the Truck of a Refrigeration guy. Those teflon tape shards go everywhere. imo - We should ONLY use " Pipe Dope " in Refrigeration. Sorry Man, Great rebuild video but i cant get on board with using teflon tape. Bonus - Pipe dope is alot easier to apply too.
Your brand new replacement gauge come with Teflon tape on them. Your reaching
