I see the Zaku II shirt you got there. There are a ton of forums out there if you look hard enough on the internet. If you upgrade from the VQ40 to the VK56, you gain over 100 torque. Harrop makes a supercharger that is safe for a stock VK56 in addition to being authorized for use for all 50 states. The Armada and Titan use the same chassis frame for the Xterra and Frontier if it's second gen. The only difference is that the Armada has rear individual suspension.
One of the main reasons I don’t believe in paying a dealership even $25k for a car no matter what’s the package.. they’ve been ripping us for too long..
I can definitely relate to your honesty. I took a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP I bought for $150 and turned it into a 700 hp hot rod. I done all the work myself except for engine upgrade. I paid a shop to bore the engine.60 over and had them install a stage 3 comp cam and lifter set. Had the heads and supercharger ported and polished and bigger valves in the heads. Costed me $15,000 but I’m well pleased with it. I put the engine together and installed it myself after I got the block back from the shop.
Andy, I did a VK56 swap on my 2wd 05 Pathfinder and the gas mileage improved quite a bit. With the 2wd R51 having a 3.133 rear axle ratio, the VK purrs at barely 3K rpm at 100 mph. I seriously get about 26 mpg on the highway, whereas the VQ40 could manage about 23 mpg if I kept it under 70 mph. I don't expect that anyone doing the VK swap on a 4wd will share my experience with gas mileage.
@gsbadd8240 It will either stay the same or improve depending on the gearing. However, the VK56 swap improves the mileage due to the power to weight ratio alone.
Im getting worse mpg than that mpg with the 4.0 and titan swap, with 285/75's 33's. For instance my drives from ND down to the southern plains to chase storms (not including chase days because that is a lot of idling and hard accleration) is about 12.8 mpg at 65-70. That is approx what Im getting up here on the highway as well.
Thanks for the update Andy 👍🏻 I got a hell of a steal, $500 for motor, tranny, harness, ecu and a ton of other crap, unfortunately it probably needs overhauled before I drop it in. So, those "You could tell your wife" lines sound pretty well rehearsed, just sayin'... Not gonna lie, I may have used some out them! 🤣
@@PaulHenreid I mean...you can however, I would not recommend it. This is due to the Titan transmission being built to handle the power of the Titan engine.

Paying a shop to do the swap, will still be cheaper than buying a Titan with same miles. I'm buying parts now to do my VK swap on my X
Hell yeah I appreciate you putting this much needed info out there. You’re the reason why I’m in the process in doing mine.
The lack of change in these trucks over the years and how it's all compatible amazes me too.

Not neccesarily a question on the VK swap, but did you swap the axles/ suspension components from the titan over to the frontier?
Yep!
what about the drive shaft is the one for the titan plug and play?
LOL Does it improve fuel economy...That is such a ssstttuu.....great question.
Can I used my six speed manual transmission 07 Xterra with the Titan VK56?
Yes with an expensive adapter. Just literally google “vk56 to manual transmission” adapter

Does your MPG get better? Perfect response 😂😂😂
@guynamechris5157
It does due to the power to weight ratio. For 4x4, that depends on gearing.
How the wiring connect?
You tie the starting charging harness of the vq together with the VK engine harness and boom you are plug and play
Well then do a superduty axle swap so you can use the power on those trails in Cali. 😂
Lol too lazy and cheap
I shit out driveshafts. Love it.
Hey! I plan on doing a swap sometime this year on my frontier. can i contact you for any questions i have?
