Great response. The Wheel of Time has an astonishing amount of lore and background, so you are bound to be confused. Give it time and check out the bonus material for non-spoiler information. The bonus content explains the Dragon so I don’t think it is a spoiler. In the last age, the Dragon led the male Aes Sedai to destroy the Dark One. They imprisoned him, but his counterstrike corrupted the male side of the One Power. Both male and female Aes Sedai existed, but they wielded different sides of the power. Only the male side (Saidin) was corrupted, resulting in any male channelers going insane and nearly wiping out humanity in what is called the Breaking of the World. The female side (Saidar) is still clean, so women can safely wield it. That is why the Aes Sedai are all women and men who can channel are hunted to stop them from going mad and harming people. (The episode 1 bonus content short depicts the Breaking.) The Light is good versus evil (the Dark One), not a reference to the One Power. A Wisdom is essentially a village healer and spiritual leader. Nynaeve was an extremely young Wisdom. Egwene would have become a Wisdom. Because Nynaeve already was this village’s Wisdom, Egwene most likely would have gone to a different village. She would have remained in this village during her training time. There is some speculation that Perrin’s wife might have had a miscarriage, which is why he touched her stomach. The Eyeless are akin to lieutenants. They control Trollocs. There are other minions of the Dark One that will appear in future episodes.
you have explained very well, especially for the non book readers. I have also read the books , and really love the story. The One power comes from True source which is the driving force of creation and it is made up of two balancing forces: the Saidar - the female half and the Saidin, - the male half. These forces turn the wheel of time and they work against each other
This episode is about 1% of the size and scope of the world and story. It gets absolutely insane and way bigger than anything you’ve seen in Game of Thrones or The Witcher. So if you want to see much bigger magic battles, really deep characters, and want to explore a giant world, keep watching. Just based on scenes from the trailers and what I know from reading the books so much, there are some huge twists and events coming.
Literally ALL of your questions are answered in the books and presumably they'll be answered in the show. Hopefully nobody spoiled them for you. It's fun learning about the colors of the Aes Sedai, the Heron Marked Sword, Rand's Father (BOY is that story amazing!), the way the channeling works. I don't want to spoil any of it for you because I'm selfish and want to watch your reactions to learning about them.
Moiraine is a relatively strong, but not the strongest Aes Sedai. She's of the blue Ajah - each Ajah has a different goal or philosophy. The Red Ajah police the misuse of Channeling, largely by hunting down male channelers, who go psychotic from the use of their magic, which is what cause the Breaking of the World, a magical apocalypse that killed 95+% of everyone alive at the end of the last age, 3,000 years ago. What they did to that first guy was burn out his magic, which is called "gentling", which generally is fatal after give or take a year. The Blue Ajah is known for taking up causes, usually to try to make the world a better place. Lan is her "Warder", which is a magical bond that allows them to communicate, mostly shared feelings and share/enhance some physical attributes like sharing a pool of stamina or strength. When you saw them fight like that as a team, that was in part because they could read each other's thoughts a bit. Warders are generally tough, well trained fighters, but Lan might be the most capable of that group. If one partner of a bond dies, it's a physical and emotional shock that can seriously mess up the other partner over and above what's normal. Most Ajahs bond 1 Warder each, the Greens generally have 2-3 each and the Reds never bond Warders. Lan and Moiraine have been bonded for around 20 years and never hooked up. The Other Ajah colors - Green = Battle/Combat, Yellow = Healing, Grey = Diplomacy, Brown = Knowledge/Research, White = Logic/Philosophy
At this point in time Moiraine is definitely one of the strongest aes sedai. Kerene (green captain-general) and Meilyn (white) are strongest. Then Siuan (Amyrlin), Moiraine (blue), Elaida (red), Romanda (yellow sitter) and Lelaine (blue sitter) are the next strongest. So she's not relatively strong, she's very strong.
the Bird etched on the sword is a Heron, it signifies the owner as a blade master. Lan's sword while less ornate as Rand's Father's also has a Heron etched in it and when you called Lan as this series Jon Snow as far as sword play, you're on the right track except he is more Dane level as in generally regarded by his fellow Warders as the best blade master currently living. I don't want to say more on Lan as I'm sure his back story will be revealed. Suffice to say...Lan is a fucking badass!
Yeah we can see early on Lan is no joke with his combat skills definitely gave us badass vibes and rightfully so. Haha thanks for sharing and watching! 🐉
Props guys, from a book fan you actually did a pretty good job following along and understanding the world, hope to see more cause this book series is epic
The world & lore is super rich. It helped bridge classic fantasy like LotR to more modern fantasy like Game of Thrones. In fact George RR Martin named a minor character in his books after the writer of WoT as they were friends
The heron on the sword means you’re a blade master. 2 ways to become a blade master 1) Pass every test put to you by 3 other blade masters, 2) Kill a blade master in a 1 v 1 duel to the death. Most people wouldn’t carry a sword with a heron on it without being a blade master because that’s generally a group of people you don’t want to anger.
So when you're watching Tam fight that Trolloc you're seeing a blademaster after that sword has been under his bed for a long time. If he'd had a little more space to move, I bet he would have taken Narg.
@@mwill8248 Man, if Tam had room to move he would have ripped Narg to shreds. At this point in the story, I don't think he's picked up a sword in over a decade, so being a bit rusty was probably also a factor. Give him a little time to get his rhythm back, and put him somewhere that isn't a constricted space against an opponent with an enormous strength advantage and he'll take four at a time, easy.
This series is 100 levels above game of thrones. Once I've read these books , I cant read anything else. Its that good. Also its written by 2nd generation freemason. So..Thumbs up
I started this series in 1990 and have been a fan ever since. Most of the comments I’ve read are spot on. Makes me want to jump in and tell the story. Listen to the books on audible up until the new episode and it will give you a better understanding of the story. It’s awesome and quite a ride
As a multiple read-through book reader, I love your take on this! You are absolutely awesome! Please never give in to the people who insist that this story is trash compared to the books, because it is not and we are many who support the show and realize that this is not *our* show, but everyones show! Enjoy and never ever accept any notion that this show somehow belongs to book readers! In short: continue as you have done in this episode.
Non-spoiler lore. In the White Tower, there are seven officially-recognized Factions, which are named by color. They are called Ajahs, and the faction shares a common purpose or characteristic goal that unifies their members internally within the White Tower. Red Ajah are responsible for Guarding the World against being broken by Male Channelers. They seek out and deal with men who are born with the innate power to channel. The blonde in the beginning and her sisters were Red Ajah. They are the largest Ajah at the time of the show. Red Sisters, as a custom, take no Warders. Blue Ajah are the "social justice warriors" of sorts (lol). Moiraine is of the Blue Ajah. They each adopt individual Causes and they spend their lives meddling in the affairs of the entire world to further their causes. They have an extensive network of non-magical servants and spies all throughout the land. They are also currently the smallest Ajah at the time of the show. Moiraine's cause is seeking out and guiding the Dragon Reborn to serve the Light in this incarnation. The Green Ajah are the 'Battle Ajah'. They specialize in the arts of warfare and open opposition to the Shadowspawn (Eyeless, Trollocs, etc.) and allies of the Dark One. Green Sisters have a custom of frequently taking multiple Warders, the better to protect them on actual battlefields. Greens are also more likely to have intimate relationships with their Warders, something many of the other Ajahs frown strongly upon, and the Red Ajah downright despises. The Yellow Ajah are the Healers of the White Tower. They focus their learning on the healing weaves as well as public health and welfare, though mundane health is a minor pursuit compared to their study of magical Healing talents. The Brown Ajah are the bookworms of the White Tower. They are librarians, archivists, historians, and scholars. They guard the memory of the past for all of the lands, because during the Breaking, so very, very much knowledge was lost. The Gray Ajah are the Mediators and Lawyers of the White Tower. They serve as Ambassadors to Kings and Queens and powerful courts, they study all of the Laws of the land, they provide arbitration in disputes, and they broker and witness treaties for the cause of Peace in the lands. The White Ajah are the Logicians and Mathmaticians of the White Tower. They seek rational thought above all else, and set aside emotion and passion. They aim to be the "cooler heads" in the saying "Let cooler heads prevail", and they serve Truth above all else. The leader of the White Tower is selected by a ruling council made up of three representatives from each Ajah, called the Sitters of the Hall. The Hall of the Tower acts as an advisory council to the woman chosen to lead the White Tower, who is called the Amyrlin Seat. The Amyrlin rules for life, usually, and she is considered to belong to All of the Ajahs, and None of the Ajahs at the same time. She has a personal assistant she chooses who is her deputy within the Tower, and that Aes Sedai is called the Keeper of the Chronicles. Usually the Keeper is chosen from the same Ajah the Amyrlin came from. The Amyrlin wears a formal stole around her shoulders which seven color stripes for each of the Ajahs. The Keeper wears a stole about her neck which is colored for the Ajah that she and the Amyrlin rose from. And now you know. :)
Oh wow amazing break down of the lore, appreciate you taking the time to one watch the reaction as well as share your thoughts and knowledge from the books. We appreciate you! 🐉
Great reaction guys! Been a big fan of the books for a long time and it's awesome to see other people get to experience the story. The colors of the Aes Sedai represent the different Ajah's (field of expertise), groups within the Aes Sedai organization. There are 7 Ajahs: Red Ajah - Focuses on hunting down men who can channel the One Power and removing their connection to the Source. Green Ajah - Battle Ajah who's primary focus is on fighting ability. Blue Ajah - Focuses on causes of righteousness and justice. Yellow Ajah - Focuses on healing Grey Ajah - Focus on diplomacy and politics. Brown Ajah - Focuses on gathering and preserving knowledge. White Ajah - Focuses on logic and philosophy.
Slight Spoilers but helpful: Pay attention to the opening credits. It shows all the Ajahs of the Aes Sedai. They each have a “specialty”. The Dragon was a man who helped defeat the Dark One in the last age (thousands of years) and as a last bit of revenge, the Dark One corrupted the male side of the One Power. After the Dark One was defeated all the male Aes Sedai went insane and the world burned (Moiraine’s opening dialog alluded to it). So now if a man shows he has the one power, he’s hunted down before he can go insane and cause serious harm. The Red Ajah hunt men who can Channel.
@@Finnssssss wink wink, you shouldn't say that part, i assume you have read the books then, there are no grey ones tho in the series, they are boring and were removed from it so there are only 6 for the tv version
This was a really great reaction, guys! I love these books and I thought you guys had really astute reactions and insights, it was clear you were paying really close attention. I love seeing new fans' interpretations of the show without any previous knowledge from the books. I hope you guys keep reacting to this one, you're in for a great story!
Hell yes wheel of time reactions! Be prepared for a wild ride. The books are a bestselling series probably one of the most famous and beloved fantasy series out there. Written by Robert Jordan. To explain the magic a bit. The magic in this world is known as the one power. Everyone can use it, in theory. A long while ago the dragon as he is called a destructive event (cant remember of the top of my head what it was) since then the one power has been corrupted for the male side. Every male who tries to use it will eventually go mad. That is why the Aes Sedai, women who can use the one power because they arent corrupted, hunt down men who can use it to prevent them from going insane and destroying the world.
@@ReactionDragonz Just to clarify, not "everyone" can use the One Power. Most people are just regular people but some are born with an ability and if they are then taught how to, they can start to channel magic. Some people are born with the Spark, and they will start to channel eventually whether trained or not. To channel without knowing what to do can be very dangerous as the results can be unpredictable, but these people usually don't even know that they are using magic. They just think they are very lucky that the tree didn't fall on them while in reality they used magic to nudge the falling tree to the side a little bit.
"Light" is used like "God" in the Light give me strength line. You'll hear it used in a similar fashion in later episodes as well, particularly by a certain group you'll meet soon.
Is a fact. Dunno if you caught it, but both asian-style dragons and yin-yang symbols are big, important pieces of iconography in this series 😄 So your channel logo... yeah, lol.
In the beginning Moiraine says there are 4 Ta'veren , What is Ta Veren in the Wheel of Time? The glossary at the back of the first Wheel of Time book - The Eye of the World - tells us the following about Ta'veren. They are “people around whom the Wheel of Time specifically weaves the Pattern with all surrounding life-threads.”
I'm a series reader. I know what's going to happen and read it all like 30 years ago...been waiting...enjoyed your first blind watch and listening to you guys try and rationalize the madness on the fly... surprised you kinda hit the nail a few times. Good job..keep making em..I'll keep watching
Thank you. Once we finish the entire series we will go back and read the books. Hope Amazon continues this show as well. Thanks for watching and the support! 🐉
Loved your video! The Wheel of Time has been a part of my life for years, but watching non-readers watching this is so much more interesting for me! I kind of envy you for being able to watch this with a clean slate. 😊 Keep watching and reacting!
Will do and will wait on the books! Once the series is over will go back and read the books. This show is amazing can’t wait to watch more! Thanks for the support!
This series is epic! I mean, 14 main novels and a prequel novel epic! 4 million words epic! The Wheel of Time will take you on multiple journeys, taking you to thrilling heights and the saddest of lows. It will take you on journeys of self discovery, first loves and heartbreak. The Wheel of Time is intriguing from the first page, it draws you into a world of nearly a dozen cultures politics, wars, coupes, and a prophecy in the midst of all of this! 😀 The books are amazing and the audio books are great! 😊 The review was great! 👍 Keep them coming! 💙
Well thanks for the amazing comment. Almost sold us on reading the books now but we have to wait until we’re done with the entire series then we’ll go back and definitely read the books and the prequel. Can’t wait to share more reactions with the wheel of Time squad! 🐉
I’m very happy you’re reacting to the tv show! It’s an epic story with many layers. As I’m continuously watching you’re “Dark” Reactions, I’m sure you’re gonna appreciate and becoming invested into the story, the characters and also the worldbuilding. Can’t wait for more :)
Aes Sedai channel the One Power. They split it off into powers, which are earth, fire, water, air, and spirit. They then weave the necessary powers to accomplish an effect. Some weaves require only one power (e.g. a fireball only requires fire) while more complex weaves may require two or more. They are not powered by light. The phrase "Light give me strength" was the equivalent of a prayer.
The killing circle that we saw is actually one half of the seal representing the one power, in the books it's description is like the ying yang the white side points up is The flame of tar valon the woman side, The Black points down and is called the dragons tooth the male side. The one in the woods was the dragons tooth it is also been used as a semble for the dark one.
Great reaction video! The author of the books was well known for his subtle foreshadowing, symbolism all over the place, and attention to detail, and it seems like the show is trying to continue that. You guys picked up on some, so if you're going to keep watching, keep paying attention and hopefully you will remember some of them when they come to fruition!
You have a new subscriber, please keep reacting to this show! I am loving seeing the thoughts of non-book readers, its so interesting to see what you guys notice and think!
We will be continuing! Also love that the wheel of time community has been so awesome on not spoiling anything for us and sharing genuine comments and tips to helps us for future episodes. Thanks for watching btw! 🐉
I’m so glad you are reacting to this. I can’t watch the episodes until tomorrow. I told my husband I would wait for him to get home. I’m so watching your reaction right after we watch the WOT.
Yess! I am part way through book 6 of the series(14books) and I am so happy you are reacting to this. While there are issues, overall I am enjoying the show. Also if you think trollocs and fades are scary, oh just you wait.
@@ReactionDragonz one thing I suggest, don’t compare this to Game of Thones, as it’s simply not supposed to be similar. The author took more inspiration from Lotr.
@@ReactionDragonz You have nooooo idea. There's a certain character you've seen already that the trollocs are afraid of. 😲 It's probably not who you think.
@@althor1247 Yeah. Game of Thrones was meant to be a subversion against fantasy tropes while Wheel of Time is meant to be a celebration of them... like the best examples of what tropes are supposed to be.
Enjoyed your reaction and going to follow and watch the ones for the other episodes. In case no one has mentioned it and you don't know I thought I'd mention that in the bonus features there's a section that explains and elaborates about various things as well as there is animated shorts that flesh out and give details about different historic topics. I think one for each episode because there's 4 so far
The show is filmed in the Czech Republic and The Czech Republic is *super beautiful*. (I know it's pure coincidence but I laughed when I saw you two were in red and blue.) There's a lot of trivia in the X-ray bar for each episode as you're watching where you can see some of the answers to your questions. Others will get explained later. I greatly enjoyed hearing your theorizing - I read the books as they came out, but it's great to see people getting into it new. Nynaeve is the Village Wisdom's name. Marks are a historical European gold currency a lot of stories have used to avoid anything specific to a single country.
Oh wow thanks for sharing the flinging location, it is definitely beautiful no doubt. Can’t wait to see more of the settings of this show. Thanks for sharing and your support! 🐉
There is no romantic connection between Moraine and Lan. As her Warder, he is her body guard and confidante. When an Aes Sedai takes a Warder, a psychic bond is formed, which gives the Warder heightened reflexes and such. So far this series has a lot of potential. There have been some interesting changes from the books, we'll have to see where they go with it. I definitely recommend checking out the books. It's a long series, but very good! (And complete, so hopefully it won't have some of the problems GOT did when they ran out of source material).
I think it helps the series that the source material is done from what we hear in the comments. And we did get corrected on the relationship between Moraine and Lan and it’s really cool how synced they are in battle and in general can’t wait to see more from them as well as the other characters. Thanks for sharing! 🐉
Loving your reactions! As a super fan who has read the books over 15 times I love watching newbies come in to our world- you won’t be disappointed. Please continue to watch and react - it will get soooooo much better it will blow your mind
Wow well definitely hats off to you to reread the series that many times and that just speaks volumes how good the books are which means the show should be great as well! Thanks for sharing! 🐉
One is the Dragon but all the rest are super important in there own right. Moraine and Lan are platonic and have a bond that is like a psychic connection.
"Light give me strength." - Moiraine. Light = god, sort of. So basically "God give me strength." Check out each episode's animated short in the Xray bonus content. For a little world history background. Ep 1: The Breaking of the World. Ep 2: The Fall Manetheren. As for the bird on Tam's (Roose Bolton) sword. It's a Heron. So... A Heron-mark sword. I'm going to stop now. That way no spoilers. Ep 3: The Greatest Warder.
On your speculation on the relationship of Lan and Moiraine(these really aren't spoilers just clarifications) Lan is Moiraine's Warder. Which basically is that he is "magically " bonded to her and her to him and he actsas her protector. They can always feel where the other one is and they can have a vague idea of their health and if they're hurt or not. Their bond is purely platonic, no sexual or romantic relationship with each other. They're just really close. And are very good friends.
Thanks for clarifying. Super cool to know they have that bond which obviously shows when they are in battle with one another. Super cool. Thanks for watching btw! 🐉
@@ReactionDragonz Some Aes Sedai marry their Warders, so platonic or romantic or pure carnal is up to the people involved. But Moiraine and Lan are just friends, as said above.
Just one thing to note I didn’t see below. In the valley that Moraine and Lan ride through after watching the Red Ajah gentle that male you see all those skinny tall plateaus. Look carefully, they are all melted skyscrapers. The previous Age was high magic high tech and very much like our own.
Possible spoilers ahead, but it’s more lore related than specific plot or story points. Re: Aes Sedai colors. There are 6 “ajahs” of Aes Sedai, each dedicated to a specific purpose and represented by a color. The Red ajah’s purpose is to provide law and order which in this time has been reduced mostly to hunting down men who can channel. Blues dedicate themselves to political causes, and Greens are the ones who stand ready to fight shadow spawn in battle. White Ajah is dedicated to the pursuit of logic and intellectual theories while the Brown’s main purpose is the gathering and preservation of knowledge. And finally, the Yellow Ajah are the healers and doctors of the world, dedicated to the preservation of life. While all Aes Sedai dabble in all of these purposes to one degree or another, they are primarily concerned with their own field of interest.
@@michaelkenner3289 lol that just goes to show how memorable the Greys are. Thanks for adding that. I had a feeling I was missing one, but it just completely slipped my mind.
its so amazing to see other peoples blind reactions. you guys are close with your deduction on the aes sedai. there are multiple factions and each have their own agendas. they did remove some parts from the book that was important but they might do something later on.
I'm late to this party, but just stepping in here to comment on why trollocs drag people off. There are various uses for them. Most are eaten. Sometimes they are given to fades for them to have fun with. Sometimes the people die first. There are other uses for them, but that's Spoiler land territory. Point is, you really don't want to be taken Allaire alive.
no she wasn't pregnant at this time, I think she was but I think it was implied that they lost the baby a little while before when they put a lamp in the river to light the way for there loved ones to find there way home.
The show diverts from the books in many ways. I believe that will answer one of your questions. Having said that i still liked what I saw. To be completely honest I’m pretty desperate for this show so I’m just glad to get a version of it. Even though at times they make unnecessary changes. I trust those changes will pay off later down the road.
Wow loved this video guys! As a long time book reader, loved to see your reactions and observations, they were very astute and fun, you were clearly paying a lot of attention and enjoying the show. You got a new subscriber in me! Can’t wait to see your reactions to the rest of the series!
Yes! Please do more Wheel of Time reaction vids! I'm a huge fan of the book series and I love seeing how people who don't know the story experience it.
Great reaction. I’ve been reading these books since the late 90s, but always interesting to see reactions from people who aren’t familiar with the story. Look forward to your reactions to future episodes
Lan is kinda like a paladin he is sworn to protect but his life is hers type thing and btw an article I read said this show budget is 10mil per episode and there are 8 episodes to season 1 and are greenlighted for season 2 there are 14 books in the series so they can go for awhile with it if they choose it's amazing bout time we got a good show great reaction keep it up guy I'll be back for more my friends
This is a great reaction. Rather than spoiling things, let me make a suggestion... This story has lore / history that's deeper than just about everything you've ever seen before. So when you are speculating, keep that in mind. Oh and all you have seen so far is a tiny remote town that is isolated from the rest of the world.
Comparing Shadow and Bone to Wheel of Time is like ... I mean ... to juxtapose ... a house cat against a lion, or a hill against a mountain ... two different things with only the most cellular connection.
Nice reaction! I’m subbing, and will check out what other shows you’ve reacted to. It seems other commenters have answered most of your questions and clarified other points a bit. Looks like this episode has grabbed your attention, and I hope you gents keep on with the show!
I really enjoyed your review! Your Winternight reactions are spectacular. I am a long time book fan and I super enjoyed the show! Looking forward to seeing your review of the next episodes. The details y’all were able to catch from this one episode is impressive!
Thank you for the kind words! Yeah this show to us feels like it sucks you in. Plus we love these types of shows so it makes it easy to engage and feel like we are apart of the journey. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts! 🐉
Hey, glad you've enjoyed so far. I'll try to explain some things without spoilers. So yes, the Aes Sedai are split into different colors, known as Ajahs, and each Ajah have different things they focus on. You sort of nailed the Red Ajah, as they mainly hunt men who can channel. I won't explain the others to avoid spoilers, but Moraine is a member of the Blue Ajah. The Ajah almost always wear the color they represent, so it should be easy to keep track on the show. The Dragon is a figure from myth who is reincarnated throughout the ages. I don't know how the show is going to handle it so I won't say much more than he/she is an incredibly important and powerful figure meant to fight against the dark one. In the books it's fairly obvious who the Dragon Reborn is, but the show is making it more of a mystery. The show changes some things from the books, even some big things, but a lot of the character motivations are made a lot easier to understand from the show since you don't get character inner thoughts. As for the dark one and his army, the show should explain further, but Trollocs are basically the foot soldiers of his army and the Eyelets are like Lieutenants who order the Trollocs. The books are packed with tons of lore and worldbuilding, more so than even Game of Thrones, so don't feel bad if it's confusing for a while. It's a lot to take in. In terms of scope the world is bigger than Game of Thrones and the story told is probably the most grandiose of modern fantasy As a book reader I have my issues, but overall I'm enjoying the show a lot. The cinematography and casting are the highlights for me
Love you reaction !!! It makes me so happy that you love it !!! I'm a book reader and i think it was pretty close to the books and respectful to the soruce material despite some changes. The casting was on point ! Also love you theories ! Subscribin to your channel to see the next reactions !!! Welcome to the wheel of time !
if you watch the end of each episodes, (end credits) you will see there are 7 figures ( Blue, White, Green, Yellow, Red, Brown, and Gray) those are the groups of Aes Sedai, they often called as Ajah ((pronounced: AH-jah), each is unique and has its own strength/specialty.
Great react! Lots of changes from the books but the heart and soul and the characters are all there and epic - the changes just sped it up and made you understand the character motivations quicker. So glad you loved it please be sure to leave your honest reviews everywhere you can - as the dreaded 1 star trolls are out in full force.
Yeah we will definitely share our reviews and reactions as much as we can. We need more and more seasons of this show. Especially from all the great feedback we are getting about this series. 🐉
I make this recommendation to all those who have not read the books. Keep a detailed log. Write down all those terms you have heard like "The Light", "Aes Sedai", "The Dragon", "Trolloc", "Faceless One" and so on and keep running notes. If the follow the pattern in the books, the explanations come in many small parts over time.
Great reaction. Subscribed. Can’t wait for more. No spoilers here. So, the guy at the beginning was going mad, all the men who use magic are eventually going to go mad. The Aes Sedai have factions by color. Blue, Red, White, Green, Yellow, etc… Blue typically find causes to get behind, Red hunt men who can channel. That shape the dead sheep were in is called “the dragon’s fang,” which is a dark omen. I’d recommend watching the bonus footage on Amazon X-ray, there is an animation for every episode that gives some backstory. The light is good, dark is bad, it has nothing to do with the day and night. An Aes Sedai and her warder are close, they’re kind of like twins after the Warder is bonded. Some Aes Sedai marry, or sex up their warders. Lan and Moiraine are close, but nothing sexual.
Some changes I couldn't get behind right off the jump, first off, Mat's family was a very honorable and well respected family in the village. Changing that makes absolutely no sense to me. 2, Perrin was never married but they took care of that quickly lol. Other than that I'm ok with it.
The cool thing is Moraine isn't actually all that powerful. 😮 Let's see if you can guess who is more powerful than her. Hint: there's 3 of them in this episode. You'll be shocked at how powerful they are. Nobody say who it is. It's super cool.
Yeah, in terms of raw strength, she's significantly below SOME OTHER CHARACTERS. That being said, I'm don't think I would stack most of those characters against her in a fight until book 5 or so. Moiraine isn't spectacularly powerful, but she is skilled af, and fights dirty.
Hi! Great reaction! Hope you'll react to the rest of the show. Yes, there are colour coded factions(in the books they didn't always wear their colour but for the show, they made it easier for the viewer to recognize them). You'll see all 7 factions in the opening credits(in ep 2).
@@ReactionDragonz no problem. welcome to the world of the wheel of time. I have read all the books so I can try and help with minimal spoilers. loved your reaction to it.
Just to help clarify and keep you from going down a rabbit hole: The time of day has nothing to do with anything. Basically, substitute the word "Light" with "God" and it's fairly close to the same idea.
Just to clarify about the Wisdom. It is more like an administrative role than something you are. Compare it to how we in our medieval world had the "old, wise woman" who lived in the forest, who knew about herbs and medicine, who were called in to mediate in family disputes, and all that stuff. Most bigger villages have a Wisdom that they go to for help with whatever. Some Wisdoms can "Listen to the Wind" which is an actual power, but it is not magic as such. Some people are just able to get a slight premonition about things to come.
Yeah we will be watching the other two Monday can’t wait to get more reactions out to you guys! Such a great fan base and it’s like almost un spoken code that the wheel of time squad doesn’t leave spoilers. Super awesome! 🐉
In this world they call on the light like we say...Lord give me strength. Light refers to the Creator. Channeling in this world is elemental . The 4 primary and the big one- the one where she pulled everything to her is Spirit...
There are 7 different colors of Aes Sedai led by the Amerlyn Seat and they all have different skills and purposes and they get their Power from the Wheel of the Universe itself
basically everyone is reborn again and again. The Dragon is the soul that is always reborn to fight the dark one. The last one temporaily sealed the dark one but went crazy and every man that can use magic went crazy aswell. They destroyed the world and now every man that can use magic go crazy sooner or later, the dragon included. A couple of things that were in the books but were not explained are: The Ai Sadi are basically the villains in the children stories and people don't trust them. This is supposed to be set in an abnormally long winter to the point people don't think they can plant. Ravens crows and rats, can be controled by the voldemort looking thing and it can make it report what it has seen
The show illustrated an important thing: don’t go into battle without at bare minimum wearing some kind of torso armor. Also, ‘Light’ basically refers to the power of the Creator in this series. Channellers don’t actually get their power from the elements.
@@SmartAlx I don’t know if I’d call it a swear word. Though I guess it would depend if you would consider “oh my god!” to be swearing. Because variations of “Oh, Light!” are basically the in-world equivalent of that. I personally would not regard that as swearing, though I guess that’s mainly just semantics. 🤷🏻♂️
Dude, your guys channel logo and this series.......its too good to be true. You guys are picking up on a lot of stuff, that's all I'll say on that. The Wheel of Time likes to drop little clues on you here and there to get you guessing so it can drop bombs on you that you don't see coming. There's definitely lots of little easter eggs and things that are easy to miss, there's definitely value in multiple viewings of the episodes. Get ready for a wave of Wheel of Time fans coming to your channel, welcome to the family/community/cult.
We welcome the family with open dragon arms, we love this unspoken pack that the wot squad has about not spoiling and leaving Clues/ sharing there thoughts after each episode super amazing to have this community with us for this ride. Thanks again! 🐉
The colours of Aes Sedai determines the house they are in. Each colour has a different purpose. Red is for hunting men, they generally don't like men. Blue is for justice and then there are 5 more but I don't want to get to much into spoilers. The red hunt men because it already tells you why at the start of the episode, men who can channel end up turning insane, going mad. So they need to be gentled, cut of from the source, so they don't end up killing everyone when they go insane. The mark on the sword is a Heron. Not sure how much spoiler this is but you can kind of deduce why. The Heron marked sword is awarded to blade masters... I shall say no more. I've read the books and I really enjoy the show so far. It is only scratching the surface of what is about to happen, it turns epic beyond proportion. I actually want the wheel of time to do better than the lord of the rings. Just from reading the books it is in my opinion that the wheel of time is the better one.
(The episode 1 bonus content short depicts the Breaking.)
The Light is good versus evil (the Dark One), not a reference to the One Power.
Thank you! As well as thank you for the breakdown! Can’t wait to get more into the story and characters. 🐉
Since I've read all the books, I hadn't yet checked out the bonus content. I'm surprised they're revealing that much there. I'll def check it out.
Great info. It's not spoiler but fills in the blanks.
you have explained very well, especially for the non book readers. I have also read the books , and really love the story. The One power comes from True source which is the driving force of creation and it is made up of two balancing forces: the Saidar - the female half and the Saidin, - the male half. These forces turn the wheel of time and they work against each other
Excellent synopsis.
'Matt's the guy with the dice...' that line, dang bro, prophetic.
Oh wow we didn’t know the warder class that’s really interesting and really cool. Thanks for sharing more of the lore behind this show! 🐉
Lan is one of the best blade masters but his sword, while made in the same method as heron marked swords, does not have a heron.
I think Lans sword predates the heron marking.
Props guys, from a book fan you actually did a pretty good job following along and understanding the world, hope to see more cause this book series is epic
We will be watching the other two episodes that dropped on Monday. Can’t wait!
The world & lore is super rich. It helped bridge classic fantasy like LotR to more modern fantasy like Game of Thrones. In fact George RR Martin named a minor character in his books after the writer of WoT as they were friends
i appreciate that Easter egg so much.
So..Thumbs up
Light vs Dark = Good vs Evil
“Light, give me strength.” Like a prayer to The Creator.
Thank you so much! Yeah we plan just to go in blind and will read the books once the entire series is done on tv. Thanks for the support! 🐉
There are 7 Ajahs:
Red Ajah - Focuses on hunting down men who can channel the One Power and removing their connection to the Source.
Green Ajah - Battle Ajah who's primary focus is on fighting ability.
Blue Ajah - Focuses on causes of righteousness and justice.
Yellow Ajah - Focuses on healing
Grey Ajah - Focus on diplomacy and politics.
Brown Ajah - Focuses on gathering and preserving knowledge.
White Ajah - Focuses on logic and philosophy.
You'll see all of the Ajah's represented in the show intro (first shown in episode 2) which is really neat!
Oh wow thanks for that break down reminds us a lot of the Shadow and bones lore. Yeah we love this show so far can’t wait to see more! 🐉
It only shows 7 ajah's though *wink wink* lol
@@Finnssssss Hey yo!!! That's a spoiler!!!
@@SmartAlx lol more of a cryptic teaser ;)
@@Finnssssss I don't know bout that buddy.
I think we are! We are getting great engagement on the show and it’s obviously really good and we are only one episode in. Thanks for the support!
Oh ok that makes more sense with the beginning of the first episode. Thanks for sharing that and for the support! 🐉
Meanwhile, book readers everywhere: "That's wrong...That's wrong...That's wrong..."
Haha throw enough spaghetti at the wall something might stick. Thanks for watching btw! 🐉
"Light" is used like "God" in the Light give me strength line. You'll hear it used in a similar fashion in later episodes as well, particularly by a certain group you'll meet soon.
Your channel logo couldn’t be more perfect for the series. I would have assumed based on it that you were fans of the books. 😆
Once we watch the entire series will go back and be fans of the books. Haha thanks for watching and the support!
Is a fact. Dunno if you caught it, but both asian-style dragons and yin-yang symbols are big, important pieces of iconography in this series 😄
So your channel logo...
The books are amazing and the audio books are great! 😊
The review was great!
Glad to hear! We love shows that have multiple layers and character building as well. We can’t wait! Thanks for the support. 🐉
"The Light" is a reference to the Creator. Aes Sedai are not more powerful by day.
I love that you guys inadvertently represented the Blue Ajah and Red Ajah in this vid haha.
We call the 5 kids the Emond's Field 5. That's the name of their village: Emond's Field.
Welcome to the Wheel of Time Community :)
Lovin all the new fans. Dig the vid gents. Cheers!
Thank you for pointing that out, and at this point we will be continuing. Thanks again for watching and the support!

Oh nooo things worse than Trollocs. 😱 lol thanks for the support! 🐉
@@SmartAlx you mean
Padan Fain right?
Loved this, guys! Appreciated your note taking and keeping track of names for more in depth discussion! Hope you keep following this one!
We definitely well thanks for the kind words and the feedback!
So basically "God give me strength."
Check out each episode's animated short in the Xray bonus content.
You have no idea how crazy an amazing this story gets jjjj The show is awesome
This is a great reaction! I'm loving watching people go into this blind.
Lan is the tank/warrior and morraine is the mage/healer, it's like your average RPG party.
Like Diablo or Wow. (Ones we have played in the past). 🐉
Love how you pay attention.
The most beloved character is one of the horses.
@@ReactionDragonz of course, happy to help. I hope to see many more reactions to this show!
Just one thing to note I didn’t see below. In the valley that Moraine and Lan ride through after watching the Red Ajah gentle that male you see all those skinny tall plateaus. Look carefully, they are all melted skyscrapers. The previous Age was high magic high tech and very much like our own.
Oh wow so a lot more advanced before. That’s crazy, thanks for sharing that and for watching! 🐉
Seven Ajahs. You missed Grey (diplomats).
You guys are awsome. I love how much you pick up on, im really exited see you watch the rest of the series.
no she wasn't pregnant at this time, I think she was but I think it was implied that they lost the baby a little while before when they put a lamp in the river to light the way for there loved ones to find there way home.
Thank you for sharing and for subscribing. We can’t wait to see more this show is nothing short of amazing! 🐉
Yes! Please do more Wheel of Time reaction vids! I'm a huge fan of the book series and I love seeing how people who don't know the story experience it.
Will do, another episode is dropping today in fact! Appreciate your support! 🐉
Great reaction. I’ve been reading these books since the late 90s, but always interesting to see reactions from people who aren’t familiar with the story. Look forward to your reactions to future episodes
Appreciate you and we look forward to seeing more of this show and sharing it with you and others! 🐉
There are many names for the Eyeless. Their official name is a Myrdraal. But they are also called a Fade or the Eyeless.
I lol'd at your opening clip, cuz I know you're gonna have one of those OH NO moments just about every episode. 😉
You can say that again lol
Nice reaction! I’m subbing, and will check out what other shows you’ve reacted to.
It seems other commenters have answered most of your questions and clarified other points a bit. Looks like this episode has grabbed your attention, and I hope you gents keep on with the show!
Great reaction guys! You guys picked up so much so quickly. Definitely sticking around to see you react to the other episodes!
Appreciate that and thank you for sharing your thoughts can’t wait for the next episodes! 🐉
They were given a budget of $10 Million per episode in this season. That's more than Game of Thrones in their first season.
🤯 wow that’s insane. Well budget well spent on this first episode! 🐉
Dragon Squad...Dragon Reborn...you guys HAVE to keep going with this one
In terms of scope the world is bigger than Game of Thrones and the story told is probably the most grandiose of modern fantasy
As a book reader I have my issues, but overall I'm enjoying the show a lot. The cinematography and casting are the highlights for me
Great reaction! Looking forward to seeing you continue on this journey!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and the kind words that humbles us and drives us. We can’t wait to get more into this story and see what unfolds. 🐉
if you watch the end of each episodes, (end credits) you will see there are 7 figures ( Blue, White, Green, Yellow, Red, Brown, and Gray) those are the groups of Aes Sedai, they often called as Ajah ((pronounced: AH-jah), each is unique and has its own strength/specialty.
Oh wow, thanks for sharing will make sure to watch the end credits going forward. Thanks for watching and sharing! 🐉
@@ReactionDragonz it's actually showing in the opening credits too :)
The bird on the sword is a heron
I make this recommendation to all those who have not read the books. Keep a detailed log. Write down all those terms you have heard like "The Light", "Aes Sedai", "The Dragon", "Trolloc", "Faceless One" and so on and keep running notes. If the follow the pattern in the books, the explanations come in many small parts over time.
Awesome reaction. Really looking forward to seeing you react to future episodes.
Wow that’s crazy and ominous as far as the Dark omen. Thanks for the sub and definitely continuing this amazing show! 🐉
It's great you guys are reacting to this. Started watching the show and it looks promising.
Let's see if you can guess who is more powerful than her.
You'll see all 7 factions in the opening credits(in ep 2).
it's a heron, heron marked blades are given to blade masters
Oh nice thanks for that! 🐉
@@ReactionDragonz no problem. welcome to the world of the wheel of time. I have read all the books so I can try and help with minimal spoilers. loved your reaction to it.
Omgggg my favorite book series of all time. I was hoping a reaction channel I already watch would react to it! 💜
💙 ♥️ 🐉 🔥
Just to help clarify and keep you from going down a rabbit hole: The time of day has nothing to do with anything. Basically, substitute the word "Light" with "God" and it's fairly close to the same idea.
Ok thanks for that. Haha definitely would of over thought it if not. Thanks for watching btw! 🐉
GREAT vid lads!!
"He's like the Jon snow of this show"
Jon Snow wishes.
Ugh, LOVE your reaction, so much "bro" vibes, love it ❤
Yeah, I'm hooked. I binged the 3 episodes and can't wait for more. The music in this is great too.
🔥 🐉
basically everyone is reborn again and again.
Light's also a swear word.
Love the reactions!
