I love how Matt says " Leader " instead of " boss "

As someone who suffers from depression I know how hard even little decisions can be at your lowest points- and this is with me not owning a company!!! I think what you said about people not caring about how you look is completely right- fashion can be used as a form of expression, but your personality shows a lot more about you than the clothes you have on. Hi 5 studios has been a major thing for helping my mental illness. It sounds almost stupid that a company across the seas (I live in England) with complete strangers, has given me more hope and inspiration than I have had in a really really long time. I honestly have so much respect for you matt- for your work, for everything you’ve done and also for how strong and caring you are even when you are low. You are one truly truly incredible man and I hope through working with the therapist and by working out your own values, you find that inner happiness that you deserve 💕💕💕

7:22 Holy cow, that hit so close to home for me. I had to take a moment! Sometimes that feeling makes me feel like a failure, honestly, especially when it's schoolwork or studying. Everything feels like it's looming over me.
It's better now that I'm in University and I actually get to study and learn about things that I'm interested in, and I love that. My interest in the subject propels me to work, and the nice thing is that sometimes it doesn't feel like work! Don't get me wrong, I still have bad days, and there are still a lot of issues that I need to work on. I used to fear school, not because I was bad at it, but because there were so many expectations placed on me from so many people, I felt like I was bound to disappoint at least one of them with anything that I did. Being a people-pleasing person, that fell pretty heavy in me.
There are days where I just can't. I frequently feel like I get ahead of one thing or finally finish a task, just to get slammed by another seemingly out of nowhere.
It wasn't until about a week after someone asked me about my mental health that I really started to think about it and reaching out. My parents have been pretty good support, they don't seem to quite understand it, and nor do I really, but they love me and I love them, and they are trying to help in what ever ways that they know how :)

This was an awesome video for me because a few months ago I realized I was depressed, as well. Oddly enough, at that time, I had this ideal for myself; I always envisioned this "perfect" version of me in an all black outfit. As I have been more proactive about doing things that benefit my mental health and really trying to push against those dark thoughts, that ideal has almost disappeared. I can't remember the last time I even thought about it. Not saying that everyone who wears all black is depressed, but it was a sign for me that I didn't fully recognize until you mentioned it, Matt. Thank you.

Awww Matt, I am so sorry that you have been struggling with depression lately. On the plus side, its so wonderful that you are in therapy, it will do good for you. I will say (I know this is a touchy subject and just know that I am saying this in a super respectful way) I noticed that you started to become religious right around the time your depression started. Its so wonderful to have faith in something and its beautiful you have connected with your brother with that as well, BUT just be careful. Be careful not to let it be a crutch for the depression, I see this quite often with different clients. Again, its so wonderful that you have found solace in something that you love, but just be cautious. I know that you had said you went most of your life not as a Christian and that you were recently saved (around the time all this started) so I just wanted to mention that. Know that YOU are enough and that although its wonderful to have faith in something, be careful to not let it consume your life. Be careful to not feel like if you don't follow what a certain teaching or book says that you are flawed or not good enough. In your pregnancy announcement video I saw you elude a bit to this so that is why I am bringing it up. If it is adding more stress in that way then its ok to step back a bit. Look at it this way Matt, were you not the same, kind, caring man, father, husband BEFORE you were "saved"? Did being saved change who you are in your core? No, of course not. So when you feel like you aren't doing your duty to your faith like you mentioned in that video, just remember that religion doesn't dictate who you are. You are an amazing person with or without religion, just always remember that. The higher power that you believe in would want the best for you and would want you LESS stressed not more. Just continue to go through life being a kind and compassionate person (like you have been), that's what matters most.

Thank you Matthias, for opening my mind and putting it into my mind that no one really cares about what I wear or how I wear it.

I am so glad that i am not the only person like this. I have what i call a universal wardrobe, loads of the same tops but different colours and the same for jeans and shoes. Been like this for the past 7 years or so. Way too many benefits to name but importantly, and this was addressed by both Matt and Sam is that no one notices or necessarily cares what you are wearing but that you are dressed appropriately for what you are doing. I feel that for too many years i put pressure on myself to dress to impress because I thought that was what everyone wanted me to do and expected of me but i have improved as a person just by wearing basically the same thing!

I guess I never realized you had any mental issues because of how happy you seem all of the time. You're such a loving, selfless, caring person and it's really easy to get caught up on others and forget to think of yourself sometimes.
I personally feel like I do that, and I don't care too much of myself. I would do anything, when the opportunity is there, to help someone out or give extra of myself that I don't have.

Personally, I think the clothes I wear reflect my personality. I’m still sorting out my clothes, but I want to keep some stuff that I really feel confident in. I don’t think I’d be able to wear the same thing everyday, but maybe that’s because I’m still quite young. Nevertheless, it’s something interesting to think about. When I was in high school my senior year I got so depressed I used dry shampoo like everyday and I wore darker colors specifically grey and black. THANKS for being so vulnerable and honest because I did the same thing.... I went to black because it represented my emotion but I was the same and didn't do it on purpose.... I was so tired all the time that I wore a grey hoodie, black sweats and a black shirt pretty much everyday for my whole senior year... but when I was having a good day I wore black jeans lol instead of the black sweats.... and honest thanks so much for being so vulnerable because I would never think that someone like you struggled with depression and it helped me so much to hear that beacause I literally struggle so much with feeling like others because I felt like I was the only one that did stuff like that on accident so thank you for sharing your vulnerability and I so hope you read this long post and I'm so sorry it's so long...

All black is dope and classy you can mix and match a lot of stuff, throw in the occasional all white shirt and life is a smooth ride. It also makes moments of dressing up more meaning full and because people are used to you dressing down, it makes a dressed up outfit pop even more and ads major style points

It's great you open yourself up to all of us. I'm glad to be here for you with everyone else to hear your issues and matters.
If I start wearing the same outfit 24/7, I may get burned out from the monotony. I prefer at least wearing different shirts everyday.
There should be some psychological effect with that. I believe it does help in a way.

In the back of my mind I do remember thinking about the all black clothes, but personally don't care what others wear because in the end it's just clothes. I honestly love this channel because it is so different then many of the UA-cam channels now, raw and giving honest feedback on daily life behind the videos. This video is a prime example this channel because it not only gives incite into someone else's life, but it makes me reflect on what I am doing in my life.

I think i did the same thing as Matt i was trying to empress people with my fashion but now i know it really dosen't matter so i'v been cleaning out my closet and not thinking about what people think of me because it DOSEN'T MATTER! You are awesome the way you are!

    Very relatable!
Im am not wearing the exact same outfit every single day, but i have 4 to 5 neutral coloured outfits which i switch every week. It eases a little part in my mind to know that i dont have to worry about what to wear and the time i spend in that.
Not that i care what others think about how i look, as long as I feel good.
And i appreciate Gunner for noticing something wrong with you! Not many people would dare to ask you that question. Either because they dont care or because they dont know how to handle the situation.
In a previous video you told us that you would appreciate more, maybe you should thank Gunner personally instead of thanking him through the vid, i think it would mean a lot for him. Him noticing and telling gives away he is a sensitive guy, not in the way that he is a crybaby, but in a way that he has the ability to sense other moods or feelings.
Wether you film the conversation with Gunner is up to you, honestly i dont think you should, since it is a private conversation, but i hope u get what i mean.
So thanks Gunner for seeing that!! And thanks for taking the step to tell Matt.
Great video for people with decision fatigue, responabilities can be rewardig, but also very demanding.
Looking forward to the next upload.

I'm so glad you started this channel. I have watched you since the very beginning before hi 5 studios became what it is now. I always wanted to work with your company not because I was starstruck or cause of being a fan but because of the growth your company has had in such a short time. Hi 5 studios is hands down one of the most unique in the world. Seeing these videos gives me a peek into the workings of hi 5 and to a geek like me it is amazing. Thank you.

This video made me think so much of my personal life because I was the same thing months ago, I was the same with wearing all dark clothing and I always knew that people knew I was wearing all black every day and I never knew why and I thought it was because of a "phase" I was going through, but this video made me think so hard and made me realize I was going through the same thing which was some kind of depression. For a few months now I have been changing my style of clothing and also changing my characteristic with other people because I was always angry and giving people an attitude. Now, I am surrounded by positive people all around helping me change which makes me feel happy and useful. I still sometimes wear dark clothing, but this time I wear them because of "fashion" I'm going to say, but I mostly wear light color clothing and people treat me with a good manner.

As a kid the self expression of fashion was very important to me because I had to wear a uniform until middle school. I'm finishing my last year of college now and I've had ups and downs of caring about fashion and right now I'm definitely in a spot where I could wear the same thing everyday. I think it might help me because I have so much to do before I graduate, so I don't have time to think about my outfits. I think it has to do with the seasons of your life and how much you can have on your plate at once.

Matthias! You are an amazing person. I've never really had anyone I've looked up to. And whenever I got that question 'who's your role model" I never really knew what to say. But after following you all these years I can honestly say, who i look up to and i consider my role model is you! You've done so much! It just amazing! I cant even put into words how much I respect and just want to have your drive and creativity! Thank you for all you do!

TL; DR Thanking Matt & asking for tips on how to give feedback/criticism effectively :)
Matt, thank you for making these videos. I may not be a “leader” per se, just the average employee in a small startup but the topics you discuss have helped me point out areas of improvement in the work environment around me. It’s also helped open discussions with those who would have the leader role at work and bring to their attention things they may not have noticed otherwise.
I’d love to see a video on “call out culture” and basically how constructive criticism has been morphed into this negative thing where improper communication or not being aware of how you communicate can lead to your message not being received by the intended audience.
Is there anything you do to optimize how you communicate feedback or instruction? The issue I always see is that the issues are pointed out the the follow through on figuring out the solution or fixing it is lacking.
If anyone has any help on this, feel free to respond bc I really do enjoy the thought of having a business oriented community that can help to increase efficiency & productivity in a major facet of most of our lives.

Hi Matt or any viewer of this comment. I'm aware that this isn't the space for this type of suggestion, but your website isn't permitting me to suggest a video topic. My idea is that you post a video once a week and post a mini-business orientated podcast! As for one I want to start a business but I don't know any specific questions to ask you, so as a result I think that this podcast would be beneficial. It wouldn't just be beneficial for me, but for many others I know that are in similar situations. However, I understand you can't and no matter your decision, I will still be a fan of Hi5 and mostly you. Thank you so much Matthias for being there for me when I needed you in hard times, I could always look back on your videos and get a good laugh in. Another video suggestion: How to make a profitable UA-cam Channel, you seem to do it in your sleep (I'm not trying to doubt your job or any thing like that) why not give us some tips. Also maybe doing like a breakdown on how UA-cam pays UA-camrs, you don't have to do yours in detail or at all just an examples of how UA-cam pays you.
Thank You So Much If You Read Through All Of That!

Hey, so I'm the random girl that keeps popping up in the comments 🙋‍♀️ So the reason I am so intrigued by this side of you and really interested in your thoughts. Technically this runs in my blood. My great aunt was one of the founders of the self realization churches that *I hope* you have heard of. She was a resident and mentor for 50 years of her life at the mt. Washington church, in LA. She wrote a book, her name Sri Durga Mata (formerly Florina Darling) about srf. Look her up, visit one of the churches. I have never been, but one day soon I will. I hope this little story of my family tree inspires you today. Peace and love to you ✌

Great vlog Matthias really interesting I understand about overwhelm in work and I get the wearing of clothes for 90 days it's up to you what you wear only if you find it comfortable. Prioritising is key to a good work balance and life balance too! You seem to work well within your team and lead thing and organise priorities exactly to how they should be done.
I've been in work situations where I felt overwhelm and I have a way of wearing what's comfortable the whole time and if it works for you then sure you carry on. Thanks for making me think more you're a great positive influencer and good UA-camr I really enjoy your channels and have just joined dope or nope. Loved the keynote speech and the Icebreaker beforehand that looked like fun I would have done it with you as I've been in jobs before and being a leader of what I've done

Honestly. I wear basically the same outfits.
There are like 4 pants and like 8 shirts that I wear and wash and wear again. They’re not all one color though.
But see I don’t feel the need to ease my decision making because I don’t usually make all that many choices.
But I can see how simplifying your daily routine and your outfits can help with mental health.
