I was not young enough to watch him play for Arsenal but watching the highlights made me realize how great and dedicated player he was🔥🔥. The way he reacted after Van Nisterloy missed that penalty says it all. He is what we lack in our current team, passion, aggression, sheer brilliance and love for this club❤️🙏
Only right and proper that Martin is featured in Arsenal Legends early on in the series. Sure he was tough as hell but people tend to focus on that too much and not enough on his footballing ability, as well as his passion. Doubt you'll read this Mr. Keown but thanks for being an important part of my Arsenal life. And thanks AFC for these videos, they're just superb!
One of my favourite players of all time. A true Legend. We really should have named a stand after him, he was the new Adams. A professional bully, a fierce defender of what all Arsenal means; a Legend. How We do miss him these days of suppression and decline by the clueless Americans
@KabzHD I wouldn't want to mention it on his blog though ,) For me, even thought you're correct (just lol) I would prefer Keown just because after Adams, we thought 'another one' wouldn't be possible. Keown was arguably under far more pressure following in the Great Man's footsteps. That takes proper guts. I wish our defenders today had 1% of what he had
beast defender, he was a rock in his prime for us. as a kid, i remember Keown to me was one of our field bullies you're glad to have and gives you confidence about the team's defence
As an old bloke (49!) with failing memory I'm pretty sure I either read about or watched Michael Owen and Alan Shearer, two of the best strikers England have ever had, saying that Keown was the most difficult defender they have ever played against. He was definitely underrated by the media, but us Gooners and England fans knew his worth. Now let's have a Ray Parlour vid!
If only this arsenal squad had his heart, and passion to play for this club, the way Martin did! Had that nasty streak you need, and he loved doing it! What a legend
Thank you so much for these videos. As someone who’s supported Arsenal thick and thin over the last 23 years, starting at the age of 11, it’s so good to watch the legends talk about their time, the club and the emotions they felt playing for Arsenal. Leaves me a little teary-eyed to see the early days of the Wenger era, so many great memories associated with that time.
Just realised after all of these years and being there back in the day for both games Our talismanic Captains Adams and Vieira scored on the very last game of the title winning seasons against teams in blue. This documentary gives you goosebumps, you feel the heat and relive the feelings of those great moments and the bad ones. Should be mandatory for out current players to watch this and to see what it means to be a true gunner.
He’s right on one point, it’s not a sacrifice to become a professional football player. I would have loved to have played professionally. You aren’t sacrificing anything to become a player. Well said.
Brilliant world class defender. Could do all aspects of defending, amazing strong and quick. Not many got the better of Martin. A true Arsenal man, Legend.
58:45 onwards... listen to that passion!!! 😭😭😭 THIS is what you want your players to feel about your club. Martin Keown, you absolutely did give EVERYTHING for Arsenal and we love you for it! 🎵 Keown, there's only one Keown... 🎵
Disrespectful of him to not even name Everton as the club he left for. Everton fans are very loyal and supportive. We gave him a lot of support during his time at Goodison. He did well hence the opportunity to return to his boyhood club. Just a little respect appreciated.
Psuedo intellectual is this guy. An average player surrounded by top quality. His so called determination and grit nothing special and bog standard in lower level players. Average player.
For me, the difference is belonging. Very few footballers feel like they belong nowadays. Like the club they represent is their country, their home and they'd give their all.
football is no longer a sport it is purely a commodity. There used to be a balance but that has gone and so has its soul. The final nail in the coffin will be when they start a European super league. It will happen some day just as the premiership and champions league happened its how football evolves .
Immense passion for the club! A real legend Keown is. I hope the players we bring should have that same passion for this club cause lately the current players just seem to be enjoying collecting their money...We need more bred and born Arsenal players representing the club on the pitch!!!
He was in charge of the defence when we reached the champions league final and we kept ten clean sheets in a row in European games. Then they let him go. Shambles.
This was a brilliant documentary, I always liked Martin.. Solid man, solid player. Was unlucky England were so blessed at the time at centre back. Makes me feel more sorry for the way White and Jordan gang up on him on Talksport 😂😂😂

Martin Keown was an excellent centre back for Arsenal. Keown didn't give up at all when it comes to our solid back four which he, Dixon, Adams and Winterburn bossed. Keown won 3 PL titles, 3 FA cups and ECWC for Arsenal.
