In 1986 I was 27 yrs old. I was an avid stereo geek and music nut. Most of my friends were into R&R but I was broadening the scope of what I liked. I used to loiter in "record stores" for hours just looking through LPs. I was VERY late to the CD craze and was still collecting vinyl LPs. I picked up a cope of Guitar Town. I had no idea who Steve Earle was. Something told me to take that home. Been a HUGE fan ever since. THANK YOU Mr Earle. Thanks for posting this video.

Love this ty!! I learned how to play on my dad's '52 blonde J200, I remember it had a small neck, it was fantastic (long gone now). He introduced it to me as "this is a J200, the finest guitar ever made!", lol, left quite an impression on me. Just bought a replacement, there is nothing like it!
Big fan, ty for this vid❤🎶

Steve, My condolences go out to you on the loss of your son, I first saw you in Las Cruces New Mexico, you opened up for Bob Dylan, I think it was 1990 or so, i went home and bought every album you had, Then I saw you in Durango Colorado playing at Fort Lewis College, i think in 2014 , I was sitting on a park bench about 50 feet from your bus, you came out of the door and waved at me, i came over to the bus, and you invited me in, just me and you, i thought that this is Heaven Here, we talked for about 15 min, and you said , i need to get inside now, Mr. Earle, thank you so much for doing this for a person sitting on a Bench, you made my Life a Greater place to be, No big head about you at all, Just a Real Person, Thank you for your great music Sir, Cousin Figel

Well Steve, my daughter and three grand babies lost their daddy June first drug overdose. It's been a ruff time and I really love him too. He was a good man very enjoyable to be around but couldn't get the monkey off his back. So sad...... I hope that you are doing good. Much love to you and family. It's very hard to lose a loved one. Your music is healing to my soul, I feel such peace when I listen to your music. Thank you. Love you✌️🙂🌻

When I was just a little kid I saw Emmylou Harris playing a black SJ-200 on a Dutch tv show. It made me laugh, because that guitar looked huuuuuuge on her. But it was cool anyway and I always remembered it.
Many years later I 'discovered' Townes van Zandt and he played a beaten up natural finished SJ-200. I fell in love with Townes' music and with the instrument. From that moment on it became my dream guitar. I can only hope one day that dream will come true. 😊

I've wanted a J-200 all my guitar playing life. Before I got married in 2002, my then-girlfriend took me to the Hollywood Guitar Center to buy me a good acoustic. I played every guitar on the walls of their very impressive acoustic guitar room. I walked in there with my heart set on a J-200, but walked out with a Taylor 815-CE. It just sounded better on that day in that room. No regrets but I still want a J-200. Some day... soon.

Steve- Huge fan from GA, seen you a couple times at City Winery in Atlanta not that long ago! You are so right... the sound of this guitar reminds me of the sound of the live at McCabe's you done which I think was that J100 you are talking about... I recently just bought a 49 J45, best guitar I've ever owned! Take care my friend and keep pickin and grinin!

I got a J200 about ten years ago. Fell in love with them the first time I played one but took me two years to have the courage to splash the cash and buy one, it cost me nearly three months pay but I've never regretted it for a second.
The guitar just gets better with time. I'd describe it as the perfect guitar for an occasionally aggressive strummer, it should can take a hammering. Regards from Manchester, UK.

Your story reminds me of weekends spent going to Martin Music first as a teenager, too early to be any good at talking to girls, unable to get a date, or to drive a car, but interested in how other guitars played, versus some cheap hand me down I had around age 12. I had had accordion lessons from age 6 to 10, but got really tired of that, and swore to just learn without more than just a couple lessons from an aunt's in-laws brother on how to run a twelve bar blues. Every week I'd try a new one, maybe confirm on liking one from a week ago. I just loved that, and felt a kinship with anybody old or young doing the same thing.

I just noticed that you were playing a J200 Celebrity (1985/86) on Johnny Come Lately. I love the Celebrity and hope you still have yours. Also see my comment from 2 years ago about seeing it at the McCabes concert in 1991. Took me over a year just to figure out which J200 it was but it has a unique pick guard and eventually I found one in Japan....then Gilmore sold his at auction and we'll probably never see one on the market again....and the Celebrity had Rosewood B/S

I love that the guitar used to belong to John Leventhal, also a great guitarist. But, yes, I agree - 'strumming' is not a word I associate with Steve Earle's playing. Ye gads, hearing Guitar Town played and sung solo, just for us has cheered me up so much, here in England. 💕

I sold it to a vet who was in need of a good guitar and then 5 years later he couldn't play much anymore so he sold it back to me. I owned it another 4 years and for some got dang reason I traded it for a 52 telecaster RI . Stupid is as stupid does... I guess. Sometimes I just wanna bang away on the old J100

In 1991 March (search UA-cam for a McCabes concert) you made a fuss over the J200 Celebrity you were playing. It is Rosewood back and sides, sounded great. You said: 'that one has some scary songs in it'...or something close. You played Have Mercy and I think that guitar made the song special.

@@jennycartwright5578 NO. It was a J200 with an unusual pic guard and nice inlay. Made in 1985 and 86 and only 90 were made. David Gilmour collected them and 2 sold for $237,000 and $243000 at his auction in 2019. Maybe Steve borrowed one from Dwight Yokum as he is seen playing one, with Steve, doing Guitar Town. I never saw him play one after that show.

    হে সুন্দর baby তুমি আমাকে শক্ত করে ধরে রাখবে না.....
    Lyrics:
Hey pretty baby are you ready for me
It's your good rockin' daddy down from Tennessee
I'm just out of Austin bound for San Antone
With the radio blastin' and the bird dog on
There's a speed trap up ahead in Selma Town
But no local yokel gonna shut me down
'Cause me and my boys got this rig unwound
And we've come a thousand miles from a Guitar Town
Nothin' ever happened 'round my hometown
And I ain't the kind to just hang around
But I heard someone callin' my name one day
And I followed that voice down the lost highway
Everybody told me you can't get far
On thirty-seven dollars and a jap guitar
Now I'm smokin' into Texas with the hammer down
And a-rockin' little combo from the Guitar Town
Hey pretty baby don't you know it ain't my fault
I love to hear the steel belts hummin' on the asphalt
Wake up in the middle of the night in a truck stop
Stumble in the restaurant wonderin' why I don't stop
Gotta keep rockin' why I still can
I gotta two pack habit and a motel tan
But when my boots hit the boards I'm a brand new man
With my back to the riser, I make my stand
And hey pretty baby won't you hold me tight
We're loadin' up and rollin' out of here tonight
One of these days I'm gonna settle down
And take you back with me to the Guitar Town

Nice, Steve! Good sound transmitted over the web from that ringing guitar and good version of your song, although can't imagine how many times you've performed it for people by now.

Lovely instrument..l feel the earlier Rosewood body has superior top end projection..but l prefer the maple..it is also lighter in weight.
    Nice bottom end.
