You're right about the government just thinking of it as a title, but the choice wasn't random, John Walker has 3 Medals of Honor, is an amazing soldier and a nice man. It's not lack of character to accept that title when it is given to you. He didn't know Steve personally so he has no emotional connection to his legacy or to his motivations for choosing Sam. Not to mention he tried reaching to Bucky and Sam a few times, even after they had been aggressive towards him, they kept being unnecessarily aggressive, can you expect him to stay happy and cheerful with them forever? Not to mention one of the reasons Sam wrestled with it a lot more is because he knows the reality of being black in America, he understands the backlash that there would be if he became Captain America, that's what he meant to say with "maybe this is something that you [Bucky] or Steve will never understand". He didn't want any backlash that came with his acceptance to tarnish the name of Captain America, that's why he believes he did the right thing
If you notice, John Walker is exactly like the other candidates the original super-soldier program was considering. Walker is exactly the kind of guy the general from the first Captain America movie would have preferred.
I think people underestimate Sam and Steve’s relationship, when you deep it Sam had a massive effect on Steve. In Endgame you see Steve running support group meetings like Sam used to, clearly tryna honour his memory, but obviously Bucky was his brother in all but blood. Great show and great content guys keep it up 🤙🏿
Yeah I like to see Bucky as Steve's brother, and Sam as Steve's ride-or-die best friend. Both super important relationships in his life. I'm loving what they are doing with this show so far.
And Steve’s reaction when he heard Sam’s voice during Endgame for the first time in five years. Steve couldn’t barely breathe. People forget they fought Hydra together, found Bucky and shielded him, and went on the run for two years
But it DID actually....Howard was using GOVERNMENT OBTAINED Vibranium when the shield was created. That's why it was in a MILITARY BUNKER and not in Howard's personal inventory. Or did you think all those shields were for Howards Stark?? Everything Steve Rogers HAD was Government owned. His shield, his weapons, his bike. Even his damn uniformnwad government owned. THEY supplied the materials Howard used to make it. And make no mistake Howard was working FOR the government, NOT "with." Not back in WWII. He was NOT a simple civilian contractor, not during a time of war like that AND especially not since he was one of the few who "created" S.H.I.E.L.D.
@@malachileesfilms if by "they" you mean the military, then it still is irrelevant. Wether they WANT it or not, it's THEIR PROPERTY. That is the facts. WANT has NOTHING to do with it. Just like when a soldier is issued a side arm, the military doesn't WANT that gun, but they still OWN it.
The dude Isiah in the comics is actually the first Super Soldier after Cap. He was known as the Black Captain America. That’s why he’s a super soldier. Even more so, his grandson, possibly that kid at the door, is Patriot, leader of the Young Avengers in the comics. So yeah... damn Marvel. Damn
@@luchamiomaridekakio6429 Definitely after Steve. In the comics Steve was Captain America by 1941, as he joined the Invaders immediately following Pearl Harbor. Isaiah enlisted because of Pearl Harbor, and didn't get experimented on until 1942.
When Marvel rearranged the schedule for these series on Disney plus, it's definitely not a coincidence that Falcon & Winter Soldier jumped off in March. It's Captain America's 80th anniversary (est March 1941).
@@sammijo125 Exactly. I’m thinking they got the enhanced strength and reflexes but no real tactical training that Cap, Sam or Bucky have. There are so many other things he could have done besides run straight at them. Plus it being Europe they may not have ready access to firearms.

Similarly, in the comics, Monicia Rambeau had straightened her hair and there was a passing conversation with a bystander saying with Monica being there, the mother had finally convinced her daughter to straighten her hair. As a reference to how black hair is percieved in a Anglo-Saxonesque society as unprofessional. I'm happy Monica was shown with her natural hair in Wandavision
Idk. It's weird. It was small, but it definitely pulled me out of it when I was absolutely engrossed at that point. It didn't seem to have any importance to the story, it was just kind of there. It was strange to have that and then Bucky be the one that gets arrested after, I wish they either would have made it significant to the episode, or just dropped it
Its the kind of day to day thing that they just can't fit into the big blockbuster movies but makes sense for the TV shows. I like the that it was done in a powerful way but wasn't the focus of the entire episode either.
@@thecolonel1457 nope. it was to reinforce the exact reason why sam was hesitant to take up the mantle. it was also a perfect response to the rhetoric that anti-blackness is something of the past. we saw that with isaiah, then when sam steps out of that house, he is racially profiled. sam does not want to serve an America that treats his community like hostiles. it is narratively consistent. and i realised that many coloured persons who reacted to that scene got it immediately. it's also all about the viewer's personal experiences. something might seem out of place or mimiscule, but for those who resonate with sam's story, it's right there. (btw this is not a hate comment just me sharing. cheers!)
Isaiah Bradley was Captain America at the same time as Steve Rogers. Isaiah was experimented on with the super serum but not by choice. Basically for surviving all experiments done on him he was arrested when he came back to the USA. The other Black super soldier was Josiah and I believe another was named Clynton.
I'm guessing the timeline is modified in the MCU and Isaiah became a super soldier after Cap was long frozen. It would fit better with him fighting Bucky sometime after the war.
Yes and no. Isaiah received a serum a year after Steve and was never “officially” Captain America. He stole a spare uniform before going on a mission and was captured. This is what the Gov used to Court Marshall and imprison him when he was freed to cover up his existence.
@@sthbmc5963 There have been several versions of his story. The MCU one seems different from the rest if it includes the government sending him on missions during the Korean War.
@@senhowler I’m referencing his main timeline version, as that’s what the show is using as a basis given his testing/imprisonment backstory. Yes, the MCU is altering it a bit, but they do that with seemingly all characters. Even Steve’s MCU story was changed from him receiving the serum in 1941 to 1943 and pulling Bucky being his childhood friend from the Ultimate comics as opposed to them meeting after the transformation.
I love how Marvel is addressing important issues like racism and mental health. I love how the episodic structure of the show gives Marvel the appropriate amount of time and room to properly address these important issues. I can literally not express how happy I am with this show.
So Karli Morgenthau is the leader of the Flag-Smashers and is based on Karl Morgenthau...The Flag-Smasher villain. Sam and Bucky learning that Karli and her crew are actually super soldiers was dope af. John really gave Sam and Bucky an ultimatum, yeah I really want them to snatch that shield from him now, he's so arrogant. Learning that there was an African American supersoldier back in the 50s is interesting, I hope they go more in depth with that. The Tuskegee Experiments was terrible I can't even imagine the thought of a human being experimented on. In this it's the supersoldier serum but it's still sad that Isaiah and other African American men went through this. And Isaiah's grandson Eli Bradley is a future Young Avenger named Patriot who ends up getting the supersoldier serum. Seeing Helmut Zemo is going to be insane, I'm sure he's going to have tricks up his sleeves.
Yeah, but because of the way the shield works as a symbol, Sam can't really take the shield until Walker loses public support. Right now, Walker is popular with the public, and if Sam takes the shield, he will be seen as a villain and a usurper. That's why he should have taken the mantle as soon as Steve gave him the shield.

The pacing of this show is amazing. From action, to humor, to serious character development, to social commentary, the writing is top tier, and so is the acting! Loving it so far! With regards to the police scene, I have personally had that happen to one of my best friends in high school when we were arguing about video game characters while walking home from McDonald's back in 80's. Almost exactly the way it went down here. Some cop driving by must've heard our argument through his open windows (it was summer) and he pulled over after passing us, backed up a bit and then got out. Needles to say, we were shitting our pants, thinking "What did we do? Oh crap" And this cop did exactly what this guy in the show did. Started asking me if I was okay, if I felt threatened, yadda yadda. It came down to me, half Hispanic/half Caucasian, having to defend my African-American friend from this cop who thought I was being assaulted or something. It was the first time I witnessed this kind of sneaky, subversive racism, and it left me perplexed and disgusted. My friend was pretty shook up, too. He'd been called the n-word and stuff, and learned to roll with it and just dismiss those kind of fools, but this kind of thing was new to him too. We were teenagers, so he got over it pretty quick (with a few choice cuss words between us about the cop) but after it was over and the cop left, we figured we'd better save our heated debates for the safety of our living rooms from now on!😉

You know what I would love to see, this new rip-off Captain America vs Bucky, and he throws the shield at Bucky and he catches it like he did in Captain America Winter Soldier, that would be awesome.
We got a snippet of that during the18 wheeler fight. John threw the shield at a flag smasher and when it bounced back to John, Bucky caught it. Then John annoying self grabbed it 🙄
John earned the rank of captain show respect Steve was given the rank a captain he is stolen valor guy the real captains in the military earned that rank.
I said the same exact thing that’s why he gave the shield back cause he knew they ain’t wanna see a black captain America. I can already see that’s gonna be a theme of the season.
Carl Lumbly (Isaiah) is from my home state of Minnesota and he starred in a show called MANTIS back in the 90’s I thought was pretty cool. He played a guy in a wheelchair who had a suit that helped him stand and he fought crime.
They are definitely setting up Young Avengers. Isaiah Bradley, the black Captain America, is the grandfather of Patriot, who is the “Captain America” of the Young Avengers. The boy who answered the door is Elijah Bradley, the Patriot. So we have Elijah introduced in this show, Tommy and Billy introduced in WandaVision, Cassie in the Ant-Man films, and Kate Bishop in the Hawkeye series. If we want to complete the original comic run team then we just need two more characters to be introduced, and with Marvel’s lineup, I think I know some places they can be introduced. We even have America Chavez (Miss America) coming in Doctor Strange 2, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they put Ms. Marvel on the team.
Like that they wasn’t afraid to go there in this episode and I can see Walker becoming cracked as the episodes go by he’s definitely going to do anything necessary to catch the flagsmashers and I wonder if PowerBroker is a new character or an alias for a certain character we know hiding behind the scenes
bucky and sam definitely have to work together like big brother and lil brother teaming up now and the walker guy he dose not have any idea what he is dealing with i wonder if he will make it through this series he is no cap 👀
I actually have nothing against Walker at this point. He’s only responded with animosity given the animosity Sam and Bucky gave him but I can 100% see why Sam and Bucky are pissed and I don’t like that Walker’s Cap. As a person he’s ok if not WILLFULLY ignorant in some aspects (like he knew the problem Sam and Bucky have and to some extent agrees but falls in line...something Steve would’ve never done) if at some point Walker willfully walks away and passes on the shield or calls out the government (which he seems too whipped to do) I’d feel like he’d be good in my eyes, he’d have more Steve in him and in the long run if after doing that the shield fell to him again I’d be good with it.

At some point he'll come across some of the serum the Flagsmashers stole from the Powerbroker. That shit will be going straight in his arm. And I'll bet it has side-effects.
I’ve seen so many other reviewers -white, Asian, latinx- that have just... completely SKIPPED OVER... the racial aspects of this show, showing how black folks are treated in this country... and it kills me. Why do they not want to acknowledge what’s one of the best parts of this show? Do they just not feel like they’re allowed to comment on it?!
Might be a double edged sword I think. One note not acknowledging seems ignorant or like they don’t see it?? On the other hand each race has a different set of experiences in American and prejudice. Thought I think some attempt at discussing this good aspect about this marvel project
I mean, so far it's been a mixed bag. The conversation with Isaiah Bradley about how he was treated was pure gold, and acted outstandingly, but the cop scene was just weird, disjointed, and sort of forced. Also, they made it clear that sam giving up the shield was about himself, not his race, which could have been interesting, but it doesn't seem to be the route they're taking. I definitely don't think it's one of the best aspects of the show. Besides, white, asian, latino, etc. reactors can only show about 10 minutes of footage. Which is why Isaiah is shown, and the cop scene isn't. They show the best part of the show, the most interesting part
Isaiah Bradley’s history mirrors the Tuskegee Syphilis Study. It was purposely written that way. He wasn’t the only “participant”. He was just the successful one.
Sharon 's not even the child of Peggy's brother or sister. She's the child OF THE child of Peggy's brother or sister. Grand niece. So definitely not blood related to Steve lol
Dude I love Buckys character!!! The emotion Sebastian can portray without many lines is amazing! Johns character is fascinating cant help but feel sorry for him being hated on for getting a job he didnt even ask for. I think John Walker has super soldier serum in him. If who seem the Incredible Hulk Blonsky received small doses at a time. Which gave him peak human condition strength.
MARVEL ISTAKIN A PISS!!🔥 They had a black super soldier back in the day that was holdin it down while steve was gone and we never knew thats how they do us . Levels man levels marvel is not playing !
When I first saw the cops and Sam scene I thought it felt really forced but when I watched it again and even check out some reactions I realized that it was actually well done. It shows that comic book movies and shows can play out real-world problems and aren't just fiction stories
I don't think that Steve didn't give Buck the shield because he wasn't ready, and Sam was more ready. Steve saw traits and characteristics in Sam, that he didn't see in Bucky, that made him a better candidate for the shield than Bucky, that will never change. It's who they are. Steve also, believed that Bucky was worth saving, even after all the evil he did. He was, even willing to break up the Avengers over his belief that the good in Bucky was worth fighting for. So, Bucky doesn't want the shield, in fact he wants Sam to have it, because if Steve was right about Sam, than maybe he was right about Bucky.
Just found your channel and getting to know your content. You guys are awesome! Back when I watched this episode something that stood out to me, the police were stressing Sam, when Bucky is the friggin former Winter Soldier killing machine with super strength. I'm confused on why people hate on the new Captain America guy...like yeah it isn't Steve Rogers and he is a bit over his head and maybe a bit arrogant but wasn't Spiderman the same way too?
Propaganda using cap smh So idk John walker says he has no super strength but we will see I think that the pressure of the mantle of captain America will push him over the edge For now he seems genuine but I def think that can take a turn Has to be some type of resentment towards Sam. Even if Sam didn’t know history is repeating itself a figure standing for truth and justice wearing the colors of America but I feel it’s just a ploy like when they had Steve to sell war bonds. Big 3 androids ultron aliens thanos and his army wizards could be Loki but he more of a sorcerer and I don’t think he and Sam ever met so he has to be talking about dr strange or agnes because this takes place after wanda vision Bucky doesn’t need a chute like cap didn’t need one. When he arrives as a special guest at the wedding of Storm and the Black Panther, several African-American heroes are awestruck, including Luke Cage (who describes him as "the first me"), Goliath (Bill Foster), Monica Rambeau, Triathlon, and the Falcon. However, the Canadian-born Wolverine is totally unaware of the man's identity or importance. Bucky has faith in Sam because he needs faith in himself if Steve believes in him Bucky trust Steve’s instincts. I can see how sam would be upset not knowing about isiah that could change a lot for American history a lot for how things are today and isiah never got his just due for his service
John Walker is the kind of guy they wanted originally: powerful without the serum. Steve is the guy who never had anything, but still stood up for what was right. Be interesting to see if Walker gets the serum, what personality traits get enhanced.
How do you know he does not have some of the serum in him. Remember Blonsky. He had three doses. They did it so he would not be revealed to be a super soldier. The first dose gibes you peak human condition. Then later doses more strength etc. Blonsky wanted more power which he had his blood mixed with the Hulks blood which changed him into the Abomination.

You mean how they chose Steve Roger back then
If you notice, John Walker is exactly like the other candidates the original super-soldier program was considering.
People forget they fought Hydra together, found Bucky and shielded him, and went on the run for two years
Thank you, he finally said it.... The shield didn't belong to the government....
Yeah steve got it from a friend which was Howard

That guy who plays Isaiah is an AWESOME actor...WOW!
He done some good tv
That performance was amazing I felt those words!
Damn
I thought they tested the formula on Isaiah before Steve.

No i think it was after Steve. They were trying to re-create it since Steve was lost.
They are packing a bunch into these F&WS episodes and stepping on some toes while they at it😁😂😅

I'm glad marvel is going there with racial profiling. The comics did it with a lot of stories. its about time the movies and TV shows do to.
It was strange to have that and then Bucky be the one that gets arrested after, I wish they either would have made it significant to the episode, or just dropped it
@@thecolonel1457 his therapist was the one who asked the cops to arrest him
Its the kind of day to day thing that they just can't fit into the big blockbuster movies but makes sense for the TV shows.
@@sthbmc5963 Yes he was tested on after Steve had sacrifice himself.
Every time John Walker came on screen I said “fuck you” at least 3 times in a row 😂
So far he's not looking like a bad guy, he had some good points about working together
I can't tell if they're setting him up as a villain or as cannon fodder somewhere down the line for the villains.
@Raygen Mckenzie Well, Bucky not interested in the limelight and Sam's missions are secret. So why shouldn't Walker take credit?
I'm gonna go ahead and give yall a like. I love what Marvel Studios is doing with the Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
I love how Marvel is addressing important issues like racism and mental health.
I love how the episodic structure of the show gives Marvel the appropriate amount of time and room to properly address these important issues.
I can literally not express how happy I am with this show.
So glad they brought in Isaiah Bradley. I just hope it's not just a one episode cameo
Isaiah Bradley. His story is so messed up.
ooooooooo THAT'S what they were referencing there. It's good that Marvel is digging deep into history and shedding light on hidden racism.
Read up on Isaiah Bradley the black cap
Yeah, but because of the way the shield works as a symbol, Sam can't really take the shield until Walker loses public support. Right now, Walker is popular with the public, and if Sam takes the shield, he will be seen as a villain and a usurper. That's why he should have taken the mantle as soon as Steve gave him the shield.
@@tofu_golem true, which is sad but i totally get where sam is coming from
what happened to isaiah is what he's worried will happen to him
that people won't take well to 'a black captain america'
i really like they brought issah in to kind of show sam's worst fear and let people kind of get where he is coming from seeing a first-hand example
but bucky is right, steve chose sam because he knew he had a good heart and could handle the mantle
though i kind of wish sam took it up to begin with i think it's going to be REALLY rewarding at the end of the show to see him with the shield and feel like he's earned the mantle (which is what i'm assuming that's what the end result of all of this will be because it makes sense)

This show is so deep! And we just at EPISODE 2, it ain’t even halfway yet!!!

Phil Lamarr my idol, he has done many voice acting Samurai Jack 😁
I must say I am not liking that new Captain America... Sam get that shield back soon please!
Even with his Olympic level athleticism and 3 Medals of Honor, John Walker is in over his head...and he knows it.
It’s cool to see the shield back in action tho
True that!
I liked him in the beginning, he was kinda cool but after he said “stay out of my way” I was like Ffffuck this guy
why don't you like him?

I got the feeling that Walker would have taken the credit for whatever job Bucky and Sam would accomplished if they had teamed up.

I think John Will Force the government or someone To Give him supersoldier serum since he will then belive that makes him the true heir and successor of Steve!
I don’t know what to say besides they seem to be pretty faithful to the comics.

Has to be some type of resentment towards Sam. Even if Sam didn’t know history is repeating itself a figure standing for truth and justice wearing the colors of America but I feel it’s just a ploy like when they had Steve to sell war bonds.

Only five subjects survive the original trials. In the name of secrecy, US soldiers execute the camp's commander and hundreds of black soldiers left behind at Camp Cathcart. The government tells the families of the three hundred subjects that their loved ones.
@@hamhockbeans i don't think he's got any yet, but it wouldn't surprise me
