Poor James, its so sad, I have unfortunately heard of this hanging whilst they could have easily saved themselves, shows determination to end their life. How very sad. Rupture could have been anything really, a wound maybe that wouldn't heal. Thanks a million.
It's. It the first story we have covered where the poor victim was determined to end their life. It's such a sad way to go. I guess nowadays, there is more support. Definately more than people had over 100 years ago.
When i was younger, a neighbour hung herself on the back of a bedroom door coat hook. So it is very plausible. Sad case when they don't leave a note to explain. Well presented.
We are gutted to not be able to find his final resting place. We've searched all records online without success. I'm thinking perhaps, when we do the walkthrough of the graveyards and cemeteries where some of the people we have talked about are buried, we could look for his headstone at the same time. We have three places here where we live and he should be in one of them I would have thought.
well this will be our last one for tonight great story and filming thank you so much a real mystery as to how James took his life but you have done a wonderful job in sharing it all the best from chris and trev xx
The term rupture in that time period referred to what is now called a peri-umbilical or inguinal hernia. The condition can be benign, and relatively painless. However, in the early years of the last century, if a hernia strangulated, i.e. the intestine protruded through the opening, this would lead to a slow and extremely pianful death over a period of several days. The condition was relatively common among labourers who performed heavy work, so it is likely that Mr. Trickett had seen or heard of workmates or others dying from this cause, and, knowing the inevitable outcome, decided to commit suicide rather than suffer as a result of the hernia strangulating.
I think rupture is like something burst or leaked. My old mum died of a ruptured aortic aneurysm which meant the aorta had been leaking then burst. It was very quick.
Even today People sometimes end their lives in prison in a similar sitting down manner. In 1915 WW1 was raging, perhaps James felt guilt about not being in the military, or perhaps he had been given a white feather. Or maybe someone harmed him because they had lost family members in the Great War and felt resentment about James not doing his bit.
My Grandad committed suicide in the grounds of Hawarden Castle. He was on his knees and could have stood up at anytime as I understand it. Suiside was against the law in those days and usually not allowed a burial in the churchyard. However he was allowed to be interned with his mother who was already buried. I think a rupture is a weakness of the internal system and results in a protrusion into another part of the body.
I really enjoy watching your videos and listening to the podcasts, keep up the good work👍🏼. I would say a rupture might be some sort of hernia. A sad story indeed, I am thinking there was no one else involved. Take care C&V.
Cheers Simon! We need to get back upto date on the podcasts, as in releasing them. We've researched quite a few stories and we have three ready to release so we will get back onto that this weekend. We are hoping to be out tomorrow IF the weather allows it. A filming location this time 👀 But it fits well into the channel and the stories we cover.
Very interesting video again! I love these tales the only thing I think of for a rupture is something in the stomach the whole thing seems strange to me maybe he was murdered. My son once saw a ghost in a subway in the town where I live needless to say I would never go there alone!. Thank you I will go and watch some more now.
From a few comments already on this video, the likelihood of him taking his own life seems probable the more I think about it. He was obviously struggling and perhaps he didnt want to burden his family with it. The pain he may have been suffering all those years would have been building up to a point he had just had enough. Its a sad tale, but again, one I think a few people dont mind us telling as it kind of helps people know that this man once existed and worked hard for his family and community. The ghostly tale is just something I grew up with and with it being 'Owd (or old) Jim, it sort of goes cap-in-hand with the real story we told.
It sounds as though James had had enough, and I imagine he was determined and was equally determined to end it all. Very very sad poor James I do hope he has found peace now.
back when I used to be a young en... I used to get up to no good. long story short whilst in prison at Lancaster farms a young lad killed himself by hanging from the bunk bed... he sat himself down an sat ther do die... I always thought how could he of done that as that's not the normal way to do it... I asked a nurse in our family how that could of happend in general conversation as I always thought foul play... but apparently if you tie it around your neck tight enough... you pass out and then die. it's the pass out part is what stops them from stopping themselfs from the inevitable.
Hi Mick, thanks for watching. What you say is like what another commentor has said and I does make sense now. It's a tragic way to wave this planet and I guess we never know what people are thinking and what's troubles they may be carrying 😟
I think he might have just been testing the waters and passed out like a UFC choke,, unable to save himself thereafter. This low violence method actually happens a lot.
When people have d them selves in hospitals, prisons and the like it’s often from a radiator. They strangle themselves effectively. It’s awful and they are usually very determined
Very interesting tale, and I’ll be following you from now on, but having worked in prisons a long time, I’ve seen numerous ways in which ways people have effectively hunt themselves…..and it’s incredibly easy to do, if your mind is determined. The noose, sacarf and string only needs to be 2 inches shorter than the drop from being stood up. James could then have just dropped himself down into a sitting position, and could/would have died instantly the moment the noose became taught…..snapping vertebrae in the neck and causing death, almost immediately, I know it is morbid, but hope it helps
Hi Allan and thanks for commenting. I was trying to figure out how he could have done it but now you mention shorter string, then it would make sense. A tragic tale.
It's absolutely possible to hang yourself sitting down, it's often the way criminals in gaol kill themselves. I think you'd have to be pretty determined, as you can undo the knots at any time, but it's more common than you would think
It was a serious crime to do away with yourself in those days so he would have been buried in unconsecrated ground. It would be hard to find his grave, my heart goes out to him and his poor wife and family. He must have been in terrible pain and saw no end to the discomfort he had. I can well understand how he must have felt, stories like this make me wish I could stretch out a hand and hold his hand or give them all a hug, James his wife and family.
I know what you mean about hanging themselves in that position. I always think the same when prisoners do it in their cells. Its not from a jump or a high position. I can't imagine being in that mental state 😢 you would think your survival mechanism would kick in. Poor man. 😔
Hi Paul, I never gave ulcers a thought when we were out recording 🫤 It's just the old newspaper reports are extremely vague and the wording in many of these kind of stories does give us some headaches at times.
@@DaysofHorror my first thought Chris when you said he just got up, and went of the house. I thought maybe he owed money to like a loan shark, but I wouldn't want to speculate. A wonderful presented video mate as usual
It’s not uncommon for people with chronic pain to commit suicide. It takes a toll on your mental health. It is very isolating and exhausting. Even today when there are many medications that can improve quality of life for those suffering with crippling pain, pain medications are so demonized and so many suffering are not believed… that sadly it still ends up feeling like the only option for finally getting any relief. People can only endure so much, there has to be an end at some point.
My mother told me that the area around Dunkenhalgh was haunted by a man in dark clothing, she said my grandfather had seen it while walking through from the Rishton end to Church Kirk.
Did his scarf get caught on something and if he had a sudden pain where he doubled over and accidentally strangled or maybe fainted with pain or had a stroke? Can’t explain the string though!
I hate the phrase 'unalive' it's ridiculous! Depression is well hidden too. I think a rupture could have been like a hernia. I'm a Trickett by marriage, I wonder if he's a distant relative...
Interesting story, the pain he had could of been an ulcer, Helicobacter pylori, or he had a brain Aneurysm , if I had to put money on it I’d say... he was killed very interesting x
We both spoke about a brain aneurysm and never thought about other issues. But whatever it was, he carried it for 10 years, suffering but also getting on with life up until 1915. It must have reached a point where James had simple had enough 😟
A rupture can be many things in a man. But I can think of three possibilities for a rupture in a a man who is past his prime. The easiest thing to rupture especially if you are involved in hard work is a hernia which very painful. But there is another one which is also very possible for an older man doing hard work and that is a rupture of the tendons. The tendons hold the muscle onto the bone and a rupture can occur in many places in this instance. There is also the rupture of the spleen. I was also wondering if apart from murder whether this man maybe had a heart attack or embolism and fell and his scarf caught on the bridge and he was not in a physical condition to release the string and the scarf which hastened his death through strangulation. Of course we will never know because we dont have pictures of the forensic evidence. Shame James R.I.P. Sir.

Either an Inguinal hernia, in the groin, or a Hiatus hernia in the abdomen,

Robin Williams also unalived himself in that way. Also, rupture sound like maybe a mini stroke / aneurysm.
Plausible 😊
