For our laundry. Each child has a basket. No sorting anymore. I wash that one child’s basket and then put cloths back in the basket they help fold and put away. I then get next child’s basket and never have to sort because it’s only their basket.

This Earth Angel is mind boggling! Doing laundry of loved ones is an act of caring n kindness! Many years ago I switched to a "majority hanging" system n luv it so much! Children n teens are often easily frustrated learning proper fold techniques but given a pile of clean laundry n 30 hangers n they feel accomplished in ten minutes. We made mini tshirt closets by pulling bunk beds or dressers out 3 feet from wall n putting up tension rods n push lights.

I remember ‘climbing laundry mountain’ for a family of five with extra dance, sports and other activities’ clothing and it was close to 10 loads per week. Now that my kids are teenagers, they do their own. I will fold their laundry for them IF they sit with me and chat while I do. This way I get to check in with them. If they don’t/can’t spend the time then they fold their own. Mostly they spend time with me while I fold. They like it. 😁

Anytime we visit my mother in law she loves doing our laundry! My husband said she did everyone's laundry up until he went to college (and when he came home) because it was just her thing! I honestly enjoy it. I've been doing my own laundry in some form since I was six!

Alicia, are you teaching the family to hold off on throwing everything into the laundry? Items can be worn more than once if not stained//soiled. If they do not have a condition such as ringworm, they can wear articles of clothing again.

I know how hard laundry can be. You do to much work. I had three jobs and 4 kids and took care of my parents and worked in there fruit ranch. My point is, I had no time. Kids like to know they are contributing. A hat on the table with chores on a piece of paper folded. Everyone picked there job. This was saturdays. It can be a fun new family game to help mom so we can all do something fun. I made duty rosters for each room explaining the steps for the chore in that room. Even my 6 year olds did there own laundry. Having there own basket and learning to take care of there clothes, clearing there dishes from the table and everyone helping with cleaning the kitchen eCh night teaches them they are a working part of a family unit, how to be self reliant and feel good about themselves. It also frees up more time to have family fun time. Understanding it takes patients and a positive attitude without yelling that makes this work. I hope you try it. It has so many benifits

Not that your not doing all the right things, I was just wondering if everyone pitches in and such?

When my daughter's were 2 & 4 years old, their dad died. I took them to the laundry room and taught them how to sort clothes to be washed by me. They then transfered the clothes to the dryer and helped fold and sort the dry clothes. With 10 kids, time to teach them to help mom

If you make the first basket emptied the sock basket, next one emptied becomes the oldest kid's basket, next empty basket kid #2, etc. By the time the last basket is emptied each kid has a basket of their own clothes they can put away. The socks can be paired up and left in the basket for kids to get on their own.

I think kids need to learn household tasks so when they are on their own they don't struggle. Age appropriate of course. My daughter went to college last year and she is the only one out of four girls who could do laundry, cook and other simple tasks. She said "mom, they haul their clothes home every weekend!" She said why would they do that when laundry is free? I feel confident she can take care of her self with us there if she needs us. So proud of her!

You will build memories that when they are grown every time they fold clothes they will think of you.

I solved that problem by putting the clean clothes away the same way I found them. If they were inside out they stayed that way and they had to turn them the right way before wearing. After 2-3 times of finding their clothes inside out they put them right BEFORE putting them in the hamper.

I hang everything (clothes)up to dry except socks and jeans. So easy to just hang up in the closet when dry. Plus no sorting since we wash each separately. This has saved me so much time throughout the years. Everyone puts their own clothes away. No way would I sort for this many people. Would drive me crazy!
